Review from the perspective of someone that has sushi all the time from amazing places (so maybe my expectations are just too high now). I went to OMAKAI sushi in wynwood back in March of 2025 and it was a wonderful experience so I'm not sure if the Doral location just isn't as good or if the quality has just gone down. I had the Oma Deluxe experience in Doral and the nigiri was not as good as I expected (however, my dining companion was very happy with everything). For example, the hotate nigiri was pretty bitter and a lot of the fish wasn't melt-in-your-mouth buttery (it was chewier than I would like). Something was just off about the flavor overall and I'm not sure if it's the fish, the rice, or what. There were some okay pieces but nothing was wow either. The yuzu burnt cheesecake dessert was good though! Nice ambience (although some of the songs can be a little too loud and chaotic for the restaurant). The service was good. Comfortable seating. I had been wanting to try out an Omakase experience. As soon as I walked into the restaurant, we were greeted by a pleasant host, and the restaurant was very clean and beautiful. The menu had three different Omakase options, depending on what you wanted, which I thought was great. Overall great ! It is pretty low key vibes. Relatively few people there when we came. It was at 5pm on a Friday- right during happy hour. We started with happy hour items and then started getting items on the regular menu. Overall the fish was good quality. I liked some of the nigiri more than others. My favorite was Unagi Foie Gras, Ikura, and the O-Toro, Uni, Caviar. All three were so good. Nice balance of flavors and creamy savory feeling. The ikura was a great amount and I liked that the seawood was crispy and didn't get soggy which I have experienced at other places. My only issue with the nigiri is that the rice would easy break off from the piece. I need to make note of the service! They are quick. Good came out fast. We were invited to Omakai in Doral and it turned out to be such a great experience. I'm not someone who usually knows how to choose sushi, especially nigiri since I normally order cooked rolls. What I loved is that they offer the Oma, Oma Deluxe, and Omakai experiences, which are basically three levels of a prefixed menu. I chose the Oma experience, where you trust the chef and let them guide you through the meal. You eat each piece in the order they serve it, even from right to left, and it really felt like a culinary journey. It was perfect for someone like me who doesn't always know what to order. Everything was absolutely incredible. If you go in with an open mind and trust the process, it's such a fun and elevated way to enjoy sushi. Now that I understand the concept, I'm excited to go back. Yes I Recommend, and I already have to many friends and family. I've been to dinner at Omakai already at least five times this year. I love it that much. I always have the preset menu that is $50 per person. But last time I wanted to be adventurous and ordered the $75 one and I was sensational. The fish is so fresh, such high quality and so delicious. I'm not a very adventurous eater, specially when it comes to seafood but Omakai just does it RIGHT! Every time! Is the best! The staff is amazing, they explain each dish any time they serve it. Omakai has a full bar and a great selection of wines. Going to this restaurant you can expect a beautiful and sophisticated dining experience but it doesn't feel pretentious at all. The crab roll was to die for and the pieces with the o-Toro was delicious! The cut melted in my mouth. Soo yummy! They kept chatting quite loudly and we can hear all of their comments... which should've been kept to themselves :) We ordered the omakai deluxe: -sashimi appetizer: delicious! My favorite nigiri's were the salmon belly and the scallop. I did not enjoy the hand rolls, especially the negi toro. It was so so fishy. Did not taste fresh. I have come to the Doral Omakai several times and it is always on point. The restaurant is Elegant yet casual, it even feels a bit homy if that makes any sense. You feel welcomed is probably better. From the moment you walk in your experience begins with great service. Our waitresses have all been nice and attentive. Very professional. We have ordered from the various Omakase experiences and they have all been delicious. I would say that the deluxe is my go to but the experience has that extra umph that makes it special. I REALLY wish that Yelp! would allow half stars, because this place is not a 4 star, by any means, as it is MUCH better than most 4 star sushi establishments in Miami/greater suburbs. yet, it is not quite worth 5 stars. High quality, and well sourced salmon or chu-toro, O-toro and, of course, toro tuna (yes, those are all different cuts of tuna) as well as sake-tastings and specialty nigiri such as uni toro with truffle oil, or Japanese uni. 3. A very good happy hour 4. My only gripe is that the portions are small for the price and after several visits, the variety of dishes like "salmon tasting" or "tuna tasting" did not change at all. Don't get me wrong!! The tasting nigiris I received (in flights of 2 during happy hour and 3 off of the normal menu) are tasty! But for a place that boasts invigorating and finding new flavors within the sushi universe? Disappointed to receive the same dishes when I was told of a "unique" and "different" tasting, which is what I thought was the reason I was paying a higher price. What I do not understand is the p!sspoor sushi establishments that exist here. Those fancy "shmancy" rolls that cost $20+ for...idk...weird combos of an amalgumation of ingredients? I picked up and it gave me a wait time of 30 mins. The packaging was beautiful, fresh and clean like always. I chose this time the omakai deluxe. I added extra sea bream and loved every bite. My favorite as usual is the salmon sashimi that comes. That ponzu sauce and pickled onions are delicious. The salmon is fatty and fresh. But what's important is the food. The food was not good. I'm unsure how it has so many good reviews. The fish doesn't taste like much and they drown it in sauce. When you do taste the fish, it tastes dirty, like how the beach smells when there is too much seaweed. This one fish with broth was incredibly salty, maybe too much dried seaweed when making the broth but to the point where my cheeks hurt. I wouldn't recommend nor would I come back with a price of high class restaurant you would expect food that matches not a over price sushi sake. Our delivery order gave me food poisoning on Monday night (March 10, 2025). I have had terrible stomach problems all week and was unable to eat anything but dry bread and crackers for 3 days. I am writing this on Friday March 14, 2025 and am still not back to normal.
