On my second visit here we stopped by for lunch and ordered the famous chili verde burrito and a potato taco. Both were delicious. The customer service is great. Gut punched to discover that Paco's Tacos had gone the way of Blockbuster Video, we arrived at Cocineros Tacos only to end up dismayed that they'd closed at 5pm. Q- Who closes a taqueria in P-town at 5pm on a F night?! Perhaps we should've pivoted to,, I don't know, Japanese after missing out on our top two choices?! We ultimately settled for Omana's and the food was so subpar it left us groaning "(You don't wanna!) Omanas!" We ordered two Asada Burritos and eight tacos, four each of cabeza and lengua. Omanas serves its burritos drowning in red salsa, so much so that even if you want to accord, say, 3 stars to the burrito, you hafta downgrade 'em because they ruined the balance of piquant Carne asada, Mexican rice, pinto beans and other fillings by avalanching it with salsa. If Omamas swamped with salsa burritos are disappointing then their tacos are a culinary trip to Saturn. Their tacos arrive individually wrapped in butcher paper. You open the paper to find two full size corn tortillas tightly wrapped around your protein choice and smothered (absolutely shellacked) with their infamous red salsa. No yummy interplay of minced cilantro, slivers of onions, cabeza, cheese-- Just full on fire hose on full blast jet of red salsa drenching the meat and the soaking wet tortillas. My son cleverly noted the textural similarities with the purported tacos that Jack in the Box sells- Both are served overly wet, flavors dominated by too much salsa. Tacos perrones (flour tortilla, carne asada, green salsa, avocado, onions, and cilantro) were maybe the highlight next to the chile verde! Location: I am not too familiar with Pomona in general, but this location is off of Holt. The building is a little older, but do not let this deter you. Parking is in the back of the restaurant, in front of the restaurant, and along the sides. The seating area was closed due to COVID, but it looked like there were plenty of tables there to dine once it opens up again. My friend and I were coming back late from a convention in Ontario when we realized that we didn't eat dinner. This place popped up near our Airbnb so we drove on over to check it out. They offer a large array of tacos with all kinds of meats such as Carne Asada and Carnitas, as well as more exotic cuts like Lengua, Buches etc. I ordered two Tacos Perones, which I guess translates to super fancy tacos and I asked the cashier to surprise me. A few moments later I picked up my order at the window and ate them outside their shop. They have some benches and tables for people to eat. I took a bite out of the taco and boy it was pretty amazing. My friend and I were tempted to eat here the following days but unfortunately they close at 8 pm, which was earlier than when we expected to get back. The Chili Colorado was definitely a favorite and was just spicy enough without being too overbearing. I've been coming to this spot for over 17 years. I ordered a chili Colorado burrito I was in my faze of ordering the same thing every week for about a month until one day i ordered the same burrito when twice this happened they forgot to strain the chilies in the sauce and pieces of the chili that should be in the trash covered the burrito almost making my son and I choke. I showed the young men at the time what the cook forgot to stain. I was embarrassed for them. When she said to me little I explained him that's not spices I cooked Chile Colorado and that should be thrown away. The kids that was at the register was so angry with me. I was so shocked!
