I took a colleague here for dinner and we chose both hotpot and BBQ. It was such a deal for about $30/pp. We didn't quite get a menu so I didn't really know what exactly we were paying for initially lol We ordered some different proteins for hotpot and then for KBBQ. Then we went to the buffet section and there was a huge array of seafood, tofu, and noodles. I wished there was a few more veggie options but they had bok choy and a few options. There was also a sauce bar and they had instructions as well to make some top sauces. I would definitely come back as everything was tasty and such a deal! This was my first time eating at a Hot Pot and I've been wanting to try this place ever since it opened. I went with my Grandson and we had a blast!! The waiter was so helpful and walked is through the process. We opted for both the Hot Pot and BBQ. The food was excellent! Fresh and plenty of options for both. Having a Ombu Hot Pot near me is so fun! What people need to realize before dining at any hot pot restaurant is that it is essentially an elevated buffet. You order your broth but everything else is in a cold buffet lineup. You can order appetizers and meat to the table but everything else is in the "salad bar" style lineup. This location was great. We were seated quickly, the food came out fast, and the tables and buffet area were clean. (I personally like the ghosts-of-Wallaby's-past around the restaurant.) read more

This is a great place for a date night. Or a lunch date. All you can eat definitely fills you up! I got the mushroom broth which was filled with a ton of wild stringy mushrooms. That was a little bit too earthy for me. I think next time I will just do the vegetable broth. But most everything else we had was really good. It was a little bit pricey at least for lunch. Food took a very long time to come to our tables. We also had to ask for utensils twice. We had a small group of 4 so we don't know why things were taking forever, we went around lunchtime and didn't seem busy. I think that their South Salt Lake location is way better than this one. I was kinda disappointed that their menu didn't offer as many options. I do wish they could offer more utensils for the hotpot option as well. RUN AWAY AS FAST AS YOU CAN FROM THIS LOCATION IM NOT EVEN JOKING. we ordered the korean cheese dog (you know.. the really hot ooey gooey cheese dogs that stretch as you pull it into your mouth in a flavorful wonderful bite?) nope! it was freezing and the cheese was literally HARD. when i say i could literally pull the cheese off and play wall ball with it i mean it. it was literally the consistency of a bouncy ball. i think they literally dunked frozen cheese dogs into the fryer for 20 seconds and thought it was ready to serve on a plate and deliver to our table. also all the fried rice (we tried all) were cold and they weren't even fried... i don't think they even used oil to fry the rice it was just plain... the pictures of some of the food don't look REMOTELY close to what comes to the table... its like they found stock images of that food. we've been to the orem location and it was AMAZING and we retried all the ones we got last time here at the south jordan location and we genuinely left hungry because we couldn't eat the food. i pretty much just ate the fruit, fries, and cookies because everything was that bad. we spent over $60 for two of us to get in and we left to go get taco bell. the price does not reflect the quality of what you get. i don't even understand how they have such a high star rating for this location.. they're probably all bots im not even joking. it's also not because we came at weird time when things weren't hot and fresh. we came on a weekend during "dinner rush" at 6:00 pm. Oh, how I love a good hot pot place...and one that's so close to home is even better! I've been watching as this building has transformed from the former restaurant to the current Ombu and I had the opportunity to visit with a friend last night. Since I've done hot pot before, I had an idea of how it works. But if it's your first time, you might be a little confused. There are no instructions and the menu is on an iPad that a staff member hands you. Don't get me wrong, the staff is friendly and excited to serve, but there was a slight communication barrier that made the ordering process a little tricky. We figured it out, eventually. Basically, it's all you can eat, and you select from multiple appetizers, broth styles and meats on the iPad-adding them to your "cart." When you're done, you checkout and submit the order, which sends a notification the the kitchen. While you wait for those items, you can visit the buffet to get noodles, fish, veggies and a few dessert options. We had more than enough food-and everything was delicious. We had both the beef and the miso broths in a dish that separated the two flavors. Pro tip-use the ladle to serve some up in your individual bowl. They come around and refill the broth frequently, so you're not going to run out. I'd recommend that you only order a few things to start-you can always add more as you go. But wasting food isn't cool, so don't go hog wild. We witnessed another diner celebrating a birthday with a big group. All the staff circled the table, played the "Happy Birthday" song over the loudspeakers and had large lite brite signs in celebration. It was fun! read more

We went here last night and were really impressed! Our waitress was so kind and the whole staff was attentive. The chairs are super comfortable and the lighting was bright which made it easy to see what we were doing. The food was delicious! We've been to K-BBQ and hot pot before and it left much to be desired. But Ombu provided a really good variety. I wish there were more options of tteokbokki, than just the cheese stuffed ones. But nonetheless, we were blown away. The fatty cattle meat and the beef bulgogi were our favorites! The fried rice cake (I think that's what it was!!) was so yummy! Came here on a Monday night around 6pm and it wasn't very packed (which is a good thing.) we walked in, the hostess/waitress checked the kids heights and then brought us to our seats. She explained how everything worked and how to use the iPad to order. You could pick either a community pot or individual. We didn't think much about it so we said community. The selection of broth was decent. There were about 8 broth options. We ended up picking the most popular ones, the spicy and miso. The pot/broths were brought out within 5 minutes and got to boiling. While we waited, she told us we can go grab whatever goodies we wanted to put in our soup. It was kind of like a buffet bar. It was a smaller selection compared to other hot pot places, but it had most of your basics. The seafood was frozen which I did appreciate. I rather have frozen items instead of warm. The noodle choices were surprising! I liked that they had at least 1 of every kind of noodles. Veggie options were on the smaller side, but I'm glad they had crown daisy. They taste so good in the broth. In the middle, they had a sauce bar and it had about 6 different options. Once we sat down, our meats we ordered were already out. I will say, the chicken wings and sesame balls off the appetizer menu were actually really good, and hot! We got at least 3 rounds of chicken wings. Towards the middle, I decided I wanted my own pot of broth because the other people in my party were adding lots of stuff I didn't particularly eat so I was able to order that on the iPad. They came over and verify that we did want a separate pot and that it would be .50 more. I honestly wish I did this from the beginning instead but that's ok! They also had a small selection of dessert. I opted not to get anything since I was too full. Just a warning since we didn't see a sign anywhere, if you do have 6 or more in your party, gratuity will be added. We had 9 in our group and it was about 18% per check. They give you a piece of candy and for the kids, they got these cute sunflower balloons. Overall, our experience wasn't bad at all. I would go back. Every time we go there, I come home with an upset stomach and spend hours in the toilet. I keep giving this place chances after chances, but they've proven me wrong. This time is no exception. The only difference is that my whole family, including my wife and child, experienced what I go through every time we come home after hotpot at this Ombu location. I think the biggest problem, and the reason the food went bad, is that this place isn't busy enough to ensure fresh food is regularly restocked. I suggest the owner figure out a solution to keep all the food as fresh as possible, even if the restaurant is slow. Otherwise, this might be the last time we ever step foot in this restaurant. That being said, my family and I had never eaten at a place like this before, and IF there was any information available like, "Most people just do the hot pot and then add the bbq if they want (taking it from ~$26 a person to ~$39 a person). I was literally overwhelmed with how filthy the place seemed to be. The tables were not clean, the sides of the tables were definitely not clean. My feet stuck to the floor under our table. The floor all around the buffet was sticky and had rice and food remnants. I lost my appetite, pretty quick with the filth factor. Regardless, I still made some soup, the mushroom broth was much better than the beef bone broth, the meat was tasty, although the seafood was sketchy because it was not properly chilled at the buffet table. They were super helpful in explaining how it works as we've never been to a hotpot before! Place was super clean!
