I finally made it to Omega Coney Island for a NY hot dog. Sauerkraut, onions, and mustard. My kinda dog. Warmly greeted and quickly seated, I was presented with a nice menu including all things related to breakfast, lunch, and dinner. But I came for a hot dog. They fry the dog, toast the bun, and top with nice ingredients. The sauerkraut was, well, sour and crunchy. The onions minced perfectly, and how does one mess up French's yellow mustard? Exactly how I imagine a NY frankfurter should be. Happy camper. Next time I'll try their Detroit version with meat sauce. For a family of five (3 kids), our bill ended up at $90, which felt a bit steep for a casual meal, especially with just a couple of milkshakes for the kids. The food itself was decent - the homemade chips and burgers were definitely the highlights, and the kids enjoyed their meals. However, the service was slow, which made the meal feel longer than it should have been. We were in the area and heard there was a Detroit Coney Island restaurant in Indian Trail sometime ago. I was excited to finally try it out... being from the midwest and my Dad being from Detroit, I'm very familiar with Coney Islands. We tried the Coney dog with fries. My husband had the Philly cheesesteak sandwich with fries. Both were underwhelming. The chili on the hotdog taste like it was out of a can and it was lukewarm. The Philly cheesesteak sandwich was dry and not seasoned well. Not what I was excepting...sadly. However, the service was great as we came in about 25 minutes before closing on a Sunday afternoon. There was only one other table present. The inside of the restaurant was clean and typical diner style. Ran into this cute breakfast spot while driving around looking for a place to eat. We popped in, and it was not busy at all. We sat down and got our order taken right away. Unfortunately, it did take about 30 minutes for us to receive our food, but it was worth it. I ordered the spinach, feta, and tomatoes omlette with hashbroens, grits, and rye bread. It was delicious! We also ordered the coney chili dog and the breakfast platter. It all definitely hit our craving spot for sure. I love these little mom and pop shops. We are so glad we found this spot and will be back. They have specials every day and in the early hours. They do close early at 2:30 pm so you would definitely have to get here in the early hours. It's been years since I've stopped in here and will probably be another few before I come again. Lots of seating and we were seated immediately. It was not all that busy, the restaurant was maybe half full at best. Our waitress was nice but could not multitask which resulted in us sitting there completely done and waiting painfully for the check. We ordered french toast which was decent, the smoked sausage and eggs- also decent bit hash browns were not cooked all that much and the egg and meat plate with ham. It seemed like their portion sizes were not consistent based on seeing everyone's orders, and the ham you get was a thin small piece. But my daughter got her eggs with bacon and she got 5 pieces? Luckily I ordered hashbrowns extra crispy and they were much better than everyone else's with me. Overall I would consider my experience mid, nothing special. read more

Omega Coney Island Family Restaurant is the most INTERESTING breakfast place in Indian Trail, and quite tasty too. I say interesting because this little diner seems to have slipped through a wormhole, the other end of which is positioned somewhere in an undefined industrial Northeastern seaside holiday town. Is it from the roller coaster laden, pleasure sands of Coney Island, or (as the chili on the menu might suggest) Motor City, Detroit? Who knows? All I can tell you is they serve up a pretty mean breakfast at a remarkably good price. The selections are endless and the hospitality is excellent. I had bacon and eggs with toast and gravy and coffee. All of it landed on the table in the blink of eye. It IS Halloween time after all, and not out of the ordinary to suspect a bit of witchcraft. Or shenanigans from an Elder God from outer space -- one can never be completely sure. I took lots of photos, in the hopes when this incident ends up in The X-Files, the truth will not only be in my stomach and memories, but will grace the official record as well. One sure sign of an excellent eatery (witchy or Lovecraftian-cult-based Hocus pocus notwithstanding) is a crowded parking lot on a Saturday morning with folks of all ages and stripes meandering towards a welcoming front door. This is a great, old school diner with good food and excellent service. We arrived relatively early, around 8:30 AM on a Saturday, and had no problem getting a table and getting excellent service. I had the Charlotte omelette, which has ham and sausage, along with grits with cheese. My wife had ham, scrambled eggs, and grits. I am honestly not a huge fan of grits, but sometimes I have found grits that I love. These were more of the standard fare. The menu has lots of other good choices for lunch and dinner, and I would like to come back and try some of those. No flavored coffees, but the regular black coffee was great and there was lots of it coming frequently. Overall, it was an excellent breakfast and dining experience, with great atmosphere. We love greasy spoon diners for breakfast, so this fit our bill perfectly. It definitely got busier by the time we were leaving, so on a Saturday morning you may not want to arrive too late. Great customer service, average food. I'm not sure what makes Detroit style coneys a thing, but I got a couple and they were just okay. The chili was just dog sauce, and the weiners were super salty. Cheeseburger is a hard pass, dry bread and no juice on the burger. Salads are good. Food is just average, but I did appreciate the service and approach from the staff. They were awesome. It's a great local diner. Family friendly with guests and staff of all ages. I'm from out of town, but I've eaten here several times over the years. The breakfast is classic Diner fare, with Grilled combos (the Waffles have some malt!), Country hash, egg combos and omelette. I can't get French toast like their specialty Challa French Toast here... twice as thick as Texas toast, cinnamon-y and chewy with plenty of the French egg dip. Recommended! They also have Detroit hot dogs (thus the coney name?), Gyros, Pita dishes, chicken tenders, and 1/3 lb burgers. Hand pattied on site, they're thick and juicy, and their grill has been well seasoned over the years. The French Fries on the side were coated in something before being fried, so the outside comes out extra crispy and chewy while the inside is very potato without feeling extra oily. They also have dinners... which I've not tried yet, because Brunch is so amazing. Typical diner dinner options, with the addition of gyros, meatloaf, and lasagna. One of my big things about service is I don't like to run out of water or drink. During the writing of this review (finished half my meal), I've been checked on three times, despite it being a fairly "prime time" Sunday brunch time. They don't always bring all your food at the same time, but that works for me: let's me eat when I'm hungry, and the second plate was still hot by the time I got to it! I'm a happy camper. read more

Today, I had a fantastic sloppy hamburger - and it was also the best burger that I have ever eaten in my life. Try as I may, I can't think of any burgers that can top this one. It was the Chili Cheese Burger - and I'll get it again and again. To me, the best burgers are always sloppy burgers. Rather than French fries, I chose collard greens as my side item. They weren't bad, but could definitely use some seasoning added to them. They have a fantastic health grade of 98!!! Due to the fact that many people aren't coming to work because of Covid - and also the fact that Omega Coney Island has banners out front clearly stating "Help Wanted" - I feel the need to add to my review. Someone left a bad review - and apparently, they were there around the same time I was: Friday evening 7/30/2021. There was 1 (ONE!) waitress, 1 (ONE!) cook, and as I was leaving, I saw 1 (ONE!) lady that was clearing tables. You say your food was good, but then you write a bad review simply because you weren't given the service you typically expect. Probably none of us did - however, my food was excellent and in the end, it was well worth the wait. Hopefully, you'll give them another try, because, as you stated, their food is very good. That lady was literally working her tail off - and please remember: she actually showed up to work - not to be abused because you thought your tea wasn't sweet enough, and that you were the only one in that restaurant. read more

Owner of this place should know the hostess that works in the morning is not a very welcoming person (we took my elderly mother to breakfast yesterday morning). We stood at the register waiting to be seated for at least 5 minutes with no acknowledgement that we even existed. Then when she decided to seat us there was no hello or how are you, just "how many people" and threw 3 menus on the table and said your server will be with you soon. They were not extremely busy, about 4 tables between the hostess and one server. I know everyone has a bad day, but if it is your job to greet people and make you feel welcome then this hostess needs to try a little. My son and I went to get a bite to eat after his Dr appt. The waitress went to our table only to take our order, bring our food/drinks and when we flagged her down for our check and to complain about the hash browns that were so over cooked I thought I would break my teeth on them. I was able to flag down another waitress to ask for more hash browns but she never returned with them. After waiting 20 minutes and no hash browns were brought I had to flag down our waitress that walked by us many times to check on all her "regular" customers to get our check and have the hash browns taken off my bill. If you aren't a "regular" there or personally know people that work there you will not get good service. We've gone before and was only ok at best and will definitely not be back. This place has gone so downhill. it used to be good - very good, even. But not anymore. The last couple of times we have come here the food has been borderline inedible. I got the country fried steak, which used to be a good order. The gravy was so thick and floury and the steak wasn't even crispy, at all. i can't believe they let it leave the kitchen like it came to the table. Also, they've been telling everyone that the oven is broken which is why they don't have biscuits...for over a year and come to find out today the waitresses just don't want to come in early to make the biscuits themselves so they lie to everyone and just say the oven is broken.
