Ithaca Salad with grilled chicken, Manhattan Rye (drink of the day)
    Laur L.

The bae was curious about this relatively new Elmira restaurant, and I'm glad we went! For appetizers he got a hummus plate and I got a duck-goat cheese thing that was in an egg roll type covering and a berry-based sauce. For mains he got a burger with onion rings and I got the Ithaca salad (couldn't resist it, as I'm currently based in Ithaca) and it was as phenomenal as it sounded with a good ratio of ingredients. They also have a drink-of-the-day special, which is a $5 drink. I had a Manhattan Rye that was so strong it made me slightly drunk and giggly (this is a good thing, life is too short for weak dilute drinks). The ambiance here is romantic (you'd want to cuddle with your partner in a booth) and it's a perfect place for a date.

The Rye Bar is a staple in Elmira, where restaurants are found few and far between. The brunch is always scrumptious, and a few of my favorites are the blueberry pancakes, chicken and waffles, and eggs benedict. I would recommend a reservation for brunch, as it gets very busy. The bloody mary is delicious, and if you're with friends I would definitely recommend the bottomless mimosas. I give 4 stars because the food can occasionally be only lukewarm and I love my food piping hot. Otherwise, I certainly recommend coming here!

Customized the huevos rancheros (no chorizo or eggs and add grilled tofu)

I have gotten very good at looking at a menu and finding a way to create my own vegan option and that's exactly what I did here. If you're vegan you know brunch is one of the hardest meals to find options but when I went to Rye with some friends for Sunday brunch I noticed they offered grilled tofu and had huevos rancheros on the menu as well. When I asked the server for all the accommodations to the huevos rancheros (hold the chorizo and sub grilled tofu for the eggs) she didn't even blink once! I was so thrilled with what came out- it was exactly what I was picturing and tasted so good!! It needed a little salt for my taste and I added hot sauce but I will say if you're vegan this "menu hack" worked perfectly!! Also all the people I was with enjoyed their meals as well (the bagel platter with lox, eggs Benedict with lox and the burger). Overall, I'd definitely recommend Rye if you need a satisfying vegan brunch.

Best dinner! Casey takes such good care of us! The best salmon is at Ryes!

We stopped in at the Rye Bar when we found our go was closed for the evening. Nice atmosphere & good food. We will definitely be back.

We actually stopped up yesterday to check the place out, erroneously thinking this was a hotel with a small restaurant attached. (It's actually a restaurant with banquet facilities.) When we arrived, there were no people sitting inside, and we couldn't see the outside dining area, so we, again, erroneously, though they were closed. (Everyone was dining outside enjoying the view!) We asked about making a reservation for tonight at 7, and the hostess told us they should be able to accommodate us no matter what, but we made one just in case. Then earlier today we decided to try to eat dinner around 6 pm, and figured we would go up and take our chances an hour before our reservation. The restaurant was pretty full, but there were still some outside tables, and we were happy they could accommodate us. We had a great table overlooking the Chemung Valley. Friday nights there is live music, and our table was nicely situated to enjoy it. We ordered a glass of wine and a prosecco, the brussels sprouts and salmon cakes starters, a Caesar dinner salad, and I got a dessert. Our favorite was the brussels sprouts which were perfectly seared, and were dressed with bacon, onions and slices of parmesan. The salmon cakes were ok - they tasted fine but texture-wise they were very soft/mushy, and fell apart when we tried to move them to our small plates. The Caesar salad we had mixed reviews - I thought the light house-made dressing over fresh romain with slivers of parmesan was a great palate-cleansing final course, but my friend felt that the dressing did not taste like Caesar at all, and said she would not order it again. Despite the mixed reviews (sorry no picture) we ate the whole thing. For dessert, I still had room, so I got their 'summer dessert' of lemon meringue parfait - basically lemon curd over vanilla ice cream topped with toasted meringue. The curd and ice cream were exactly what I wanted, but the granulated sugar in the meringue was not fully dissolved, so the meringue was gritty and very very sweet. Still, I ate it all. Service was fantastic with a team of young ladies taking care of us. And, despite the restaurant being really busy, our food came out fairly quickly. A few additional notes - we were there roughly 2 hours, enjoying our meal and drinks, and in that time the temperature dropped about 10 degrees. We were ready for it with sweaters and scarves, but many outside diners were not. There are some big fire pits which they turned on just as it was getting dark - these were great and if we had more energy we might have stayed longer and enjoyed the ambiance. Also, reservations are definitely recommended if you want to sit outside. The place is quite large so there's lots of inside seating, but outside is pretty special. Finally, like other spots in Elmira, almost all the wines on their list are fingerlakes wines - there are a couple from outside of NY, but for such a nice place with nice food the limited wine choice was a bit disappointing. Still, giving this place a solid 4 stars because we really enjoyed the whole experience. We will definitely be back!

Horrible service and management. Go elsewhere. Bad with allergies. Lawsuit waiting to happen…read more Food as a whole was decent. There were some hits and some misses. First off, the table we were seated at was way too small, so my dad sat at the end and all of the waitresses/waiters kept bumping into him. One even dropped some silverware on him. No apologies were made. We also made sure to note on our reservation AND tell our waitress that we have severe nut allergies at the table and they brought us a charcuterie board with nuts on it. Only because someone recognized a nut in one of the crackers did we double check after it was brought out. This happened again with the chocolate pudding. This is absolutely unacceptable. You cannot give customers who tell you they have a severe nut allergy nuts. This is how people die. Management handled this horribly. The hotel manager pretended to be the restaurant manager but then realized after talking with my dad that she, in fact, had no clue what was going on in the restaurant and corrected position as being the hotel manager midway through the conversation and went to get the ACTUAL restaurant manager. The restaurant manager herself was rude, curt, and made no effort to apologize. Perhaps this is because we were here for graduation dinner so there is a lack of incentive to win over a potentially returning customer. The service here is some of the worst I have ever experienced. Additionally, we were also never notified that they have off-menu desserts. It was only after we had already ordered that we saw someone with carrot cake that we asked. The person we were eventually able to wave down to inquire about the other desserts was rude- he gave very little explanation and when we asked about nuts in the desserts his answer was "I don't know." We had to explicitly ask him to ask the kitchen. Our waitress never cared to elaborate on the additional options not listed on the menu. Our water cups were also almost always empty- this is a minuscule mistake in the larger picture though, but still something to note. As for food, the bread was dry, the charcuterie portions were tiny (we also saw as we were leaving that they gave other tables different charcuterie boards... theirs had grapes and an abundance of crackers, which appeared to be Ritz and Club crackers which are nut-free... while ours was small and barren), and the appetizers as a whole were lackluster. Mains were solid, the chicken marsala portion was generous, noodles were mediocre though. My steak (ordered rare) was slightly overcooked. These are small mistakes in comparison. I still enjoyed the entrees as a whole. Dessert was okay. The cheesecake was slightly grainy. I liked the pudding the best. Pavlova was fine, not my type of dessert. The one redeeming quality is the view of the lake. Nonetheless, I strongly discourage everyone from coming. Save your time and money.

I was unaware the restaurant was not a stand alone, but rather in a building with other businesses (not a negative, just something to point out). We ate on a Tuesday, pretty early (5:15 reservation) and were there about an hour and 45 minutes, so if you're in a rush for a meal - this isn't the vibe for you. We didn't mind it, however, as we were not in any kind of time constraint. The restaurant itself isn't overly large; so the tables are all pretty close together. Our meals were very good. We both upgraded our salads that came with our meals; I went with the prime salad and my husband the Ceasar. Both were delicious! For our entrees I ordered the Chilean sea bass and my husband the chicken parm. Both were delicious, however my husband's pasta was a little starchy. The two large chicken cutlets with the soft cheese on top really made up for that though! Our server (Alfredo) was very kind and attentive; offering us Prosecco or Complimentary Dessert for our anniversary! We opted for the espresso cheesecake and it was truly the star of the show! Overall: I'd rate it a 4.5, but couldn't justify a 4 star so I gave it a 5. It's a nice place for a special celebration meal!
