We didn't tell anyone about our previous experience when there and we were so happy with literally everything! Wow! What a hidden gem! I accompanied a friend to drop off a rental and was tasked with finding a nearby place for dinner. Needless to say, I thought the menu looked good, but I was blown away by the space. Although it was cold and wet that day, the outdoor patio area looked like a place where I would spend a lot of time. Upon entering the restaurant, the interior with its wraparound booths and velvet curtains set up an intimate and upscale feel. Our server for the evening was polite and knowledgeable. I ordered a dirty martini, which came out perfectly briny for my taste. For an appetizer, we shared the fry plate with three dipping sauces, all of which were delicious and accompanied by an abundance of fries for three people. I also had the Manhattan-style clam chowder and a Caesar salad with a perfectly balanced homemade dressing. A dinner companion ordered the grilled romaine, French onion soup, and a side of grilled cheese dippers, which consisted of Texas toast grilled cheese cut into thirds. Don't go to Rye for brunch unless you are married. I had no problem waiting half an hour for a refill of what would be "very bottom" mimosas. I was genuinely happy after one hour when everyone else received their food. Then I was informed that they were out of pancakes. Not sure how that is possible, but I don't run a poorly run restaurant. After an additional half-hour wait, I received French toast with the added benefit of having no discount on the bill. I left appreciative of my wife offering half of her waffle while everyone else ate. read more

A beautiful hidden gem tucked in Elmira. The service was outstanding, both the bartenders and servers being super welcoming and personable. The bae was curious about this relatively new Elmira restaurant, and I'm glad we went! For appetizers he got a hummus plate and I got a duck-goat cheese thing that was in an egg roll type covering and a berry-based sauce. For mains he got a burger with onion rings and I got the Ithaca salad (couldn't resist it, as I'm currently based in Ithaca) and it was as phenomenal as it sounded with a good ratio of ingredients. They also have a drink-of-the-day special, which is a $5 drink. I had a Manhattan Rye that was so strong it made me slightly drunk and giggly (this is a good thing, life is too short for weak dilute drinks). The Rye Bar is a staple in Elmira, where restaurants are found few and far between. The brunch is always scrumptious, and a few of my favorites are the blueberry pancakes, chicken and waffles, and eggs benedict. I would recommend a reservation for brunch, as it gets very busy. The bloody mary is delicious, and if you're with friends I would definitely recommend the bottomless mimosas. I give 4 stars because the food can occasionally be only lukewarm and I love my food piping hot. Otherwise, I certainly recommend coming here! read more

I have gotten very good at looking at a menu and finding a way to create my own vegan option and that's exactly what I did here. If you're vegan you know brunch is one of the hardest meals to find options but when I went to Rye with some friends for Sunday brunch I noticed they offered grilled tofu and had huevos rancheros on the menu as well. When I asked the server for all the accommodations to the huevos rancheros (hold the chorizo and sub grilled tofu for the eggs) she didn't even blink once! I was so thrilled with what came out- it was exactly what I was picturing and tasted so good!! It needed a little salt for my taste and I added hot sauce but I will say if you're vegan this "menu hack" worked perfectly!! Also all the people I was with enjoyed their meals as well (the bagel platter with lox, eggs Benedict with lox and the burger). Overall, I'd definitely recommend Rye if you need a satisfying vegan brunch. read more

Went for brunch on a Sunday. It took 26 minutes for me to get my drink from the bar (my food came out before my drink). There were only two other tables of people when we went. The bartender was just siting at a table with people joking and laughing. Our waitress had to tell him to go make my drink. Food was okay. One person wanted no pickles on his sandwich (got pickles). Dined here for the first time on a Saturday night. The restaurant smelled great, looked clean and all of the staff was friendly and attentive. Ordered the marinated olives and ratatouille as appetizers, as well as a raspberry cocktail that was Michaels own concoction due to a lack of blood oranges on the house's signature margarita. The cocktail was delightful and for only $6 the plate of olives were a fun and enjoyable conversation piece. The ratatouille ended up arriving with the entrees but with one cocktail and some wine the wait wasn't noticeable. As for the entrees, the Statler chicken had a bit of an overpowering crust on it with the spotlight piece being the mashed potatoes, and the snap peas a strong supporting side. I can vouch for the very savory Medium Rare Faroe Salmon perfectly seasoned, accompanied by respectable handmashed potatoes and sautéed Bok Choy. I enjoy having a mix of flavors with each bite, nevertheless eating these ingredients separately was a palatably pleasant experience and enjoyed the individual flavors and textures. A bit of a rarity in my experience. As a tip for those that would like to try this salmon dish, the three daughters moscato made for a match in heaven. Overall a truly delightful experience. Rye Bar is a solid restaurant in Elmira. Excellent option for a date night or work lunch. They do Sunday brunch, which is difficult to find in this area, and they do a good job at it. Anything with salmon is fresh and cooked well. Salmon and risotto for brunch and salmon BLT for lunch are both great. They also have one of the better burger in this area. Fries are great but would be perfect if they didn't over-salt them. They pair them well with some great sauces. Awesome ambiance. read more

Best food in Elmira. Great, attentive service, a parking lot available, and a nice ambience. Everything you could ask for in a restaurant. Food and drinks are delicious and fairly priced. The mac n cheese that comes with the Thursday fried chicken is to die for. The chips that come with the French onion dip are also delicious and massive. The Ithaca salad was large and had the perfect amount of dressing and ingredients. I would like to come back here and try everything. I absolutely love Rye Bar. All of their ingredients are so fresh. It reminds me of a farm to table dining experience. As a San Francisco native, I also get all the vibes of dining in the city. We have ordered almost everything on their menu. Everything is great. From their grilled wings, Caesar salad (best I've ever had), peanut butter jelly burger, to their salmon (OMG TRY THE SALMON), everything is amazing. This restaurant is definitely our favorite in the area. 5 stars only because I can't give them 10. The service is also above and beyond. Don't forget their amazing cocktails too! Five Stars given for every aspect of my 25-person rehearsal happy hour event at Ryebar last week. Everything from menu planning, room set up, the bar and the waitstaff service and most importantly, the food was all perfect. They set their back room up for us from 4:30 to 7pm. It was casual yet elegant. Guests mingled with their wonderful cocktails and crudités until the food, pulled pork sliders, French Fries, Onion Rings, Hummus, was served, at which point, we were seated with plates, cloth napkins, etc. I'm from San Francisco, and have access to a lot of GREAT dining, so when I take the time to write a review and give it 5 stars, you should know that you've got a GEM here in Elmira.
