Typical Long Island diner. Decor is pretty cool but because there's no carpet in this place it is LOUD! Even when it's not crowded. Party of 5 we all had breakfast food. Everyone left full. Eggs were good but a fair amount overlooked. Value was there but service was not really great. Our server checked on us when we were basically finished with our meals. Would have been nice to get some extra napkins but he was nowhere to be found after our plates were set down in front of us. The ultimate sin for me is that they don't have Heinz ketchup. There hasn't been a time where I haven't finished some diner chocolate chips pancakes, unfortunately now is the first. They were slightly burnt and extremely dry. Didn't even have a slight taste of chocolate chip. (Tasted like box pancakes) My buddy had a ham and cheddar omelette, he says an "off tasting, plastic cheese, monstrosity of a meal. My wife's family is in New York for a wedding. We said let's catch up after work and all meet at a local diner. They chose On Parade diner. I haven't been to this diner in over 30 years! What a nice surprise to sit down with family in a very clean setting. The menu selection was very substantial. 30 years ago I'd order a burger platter with a chocolate milk shake. This time I ordered a patty melt with a Coke and well done grilled onions. I have to report On Parade nailed it! The bread was grilled perfectly, the burger was juicy and the service was excellent. Went here for a late night meal on the way back home from the airport. The waffle fries were a 10/10 they had like a sweet but spicy spice combo on them- I think some brown sugar and chili-amazing! The vegetable panini was okay. I felt like it was well filled and the mozzarella cheese and pesto were a great taste. The issue was there was so much oil from the vegetables that leaked out onto the plate and made the bread a soggy mess. I ended up just eating the top half of the sandwich and filling because the bottom half was soaked in grease. Hot date night at the On Parade diner cooled off quickly. We were promptly seated in the corner booth, furthest away from everyone and everything in the restaurant. In another setting this would have been romantic. In this instance, I got the sneaking suspicion that we were determined to be "off parade" by the Diner's host. Let me cut to the chase. I ordered the grilled shrimp Caesar salad, which was adequate. My sweetheart made the mistake of ordering the chili. Bold move to order such fare in a diner. Boldness rapidly descended into regret; though a generous offering was proffered, the dish's flavor was reminiscent of Hunts tomato paste fresh out of the can, less the metallic aftertaste. Add chunks of garlic and onion, and you have the makings of a rather delightless culinary experience. To the server's credit, the item was returned and removed from the check. Onto the entree... roast chicken. Not bad, though I suspect that the mashed potato accompaniment resided in a box mere moments prior to our arrival. As for the string beans, the faint hint of industrial cleaner was detected. Perhaps a palate cleanser for the chili? Lest I forget, the diet coke and iced coffee were excellent. We also took home a chicken Caesar wrap for my son, who proceeded to inhale same with his usual and customary vim and vigor. He exclaimed thereafter that it may have been tasty but was entirety unsure as he had consumed it with such alacrity. I was last at this diner 20+ years ago. At the time, we met my brother's then fiance and her parents for the first and last time. I distinctly recall renaming the place in my head the Heartbreak Diner. I had a terrible experience here and would not recommend going, but it was crowded, so maybe others have better experiences. The busy situation also meant the waiter seemingly abandoned us multiple times so a refill on coffee was never going to happen. I ordered the Challah bread French toast and that was decent. My boyfriend ordered strawberry pancakes "preserves or fresh?" so my boyfriend picks fresh which is actually signficantly more expensive (I wanted to argue this because it doesn't even list fresh in the menu to let us know it would be more expensive.) But even then, they offer a sad cup of strawberries ON THE SIDE instead cooked in. What's the point? I've never ordered blueberry pancakes and gotten a cup of fruit to go. It's supposed to be in the batter, not as a side snack. \ We GOT a fruit salad on the side and it was a pathetic almost exclusively slimy cantaloupe pieces. This is a day after we went to another diner that had a fresh variety of fruits, so it can't be blamed on a seasonal thing. It's a cheaping out thing. After a recent play-date between father and daughter, we stopped in for a bite to eat on our way home. Seating at 2:30 on a weekday was a snap and we were given a booth where only a handful of other patrons were in the diner. The service was really very good- our server knew to get a drink order in for my little one right away- giving our meal an extra chance of being a good one. Servers who know that taking care of the needs of children is paramount to ensuring a good meal for the adults is a trait that I'm guessing can be a learned one but is essential to any good meal. Our server let us know what the kids meal menu was and got her a pasta dish in the works right away. For the adult in our party (me), I chose a specialty burger and asked for it to be cooked medium rare. It came cooked as promised but really lacked any discernible flavor. The onion rings on top helped but the burger patty itself, although being cooked as I asked, was at best, ok. The fries and the chicken fingers we ordered were good and made for an enjoyable lunch. Prices in Long Island are high to begin with, and a diner meal was no exception- but not exorbitantly so. About $45 for a dad and his kid to have a nice meal after a romp at a nearby bounce house. Though the place looks awesome from the outside, everything else was subpar. I went with one of my girlfriends and my 2 young kids last night for an early dinner. I ordered the Monte Cristo for $18... this was absolutely over priced for what I received. 2 thick slices of French toast (and puke be great on own), 1 slice of deli ham, 1 slice of turkey and 1 slice of cheese. It was bland and dry. My girlfriend ordered a broccoli and cheddar quesadilla... minimal cheese and a bunch of broccoli and no sides. One of my kids got the burger which after one bite made her stomach hurt. Not to mention a kids menu cheese burger is more expensive than the regular burger on the menu. My 2 year old got a side of fries, those were fine. And we took home a $20 Ruben that was just ok. Service was horrible, I think our waiter spoke maybe 3 words and was not attentive even with only 3 tables in the entire section. I'm gonna pull the "perception is reality" analogy because the waiter looked miserable from beginning to end, like the guy had few or no other career options. The menu is pretty pricey, lacks value items, and lacks worthy specials or particular standout dishes. Beware, soda pop drinkers, there are NO free drink refills. Is this typical for diners, or just this area? I dunno, but for any full service restaurant, this is an amateur nickel & dime policy for fleecing customers who already pay an exorbitant markup, no matter how one tries to rationalize it. Shame on those greedy mvtherfvckers. So someone at our table notices a hair (the short and curly variety) in their food. /cue music stopping needle scrape across the record/. I'd rather keep focus on the customer service aspect because no one brought a CSI forensics kit to verify the donor. We ask for management to address the situation before we get the check, but does the manager show up? No. Just the same unhappy waiter with unsatisfactory responses and the check. I think the wheels finally came off the wagon when my friend's dinner was discounted for a percentage of what the restaurant felt was already eaten before the suspect hair sample was discovered. No apology either. Instead, we got defensive responses from the manager as we paid on our way out. Only after several minutes of raised voices did the manager reluctantly comp the meal. Fresh turkey, fresh squeezed juice, clean, spacious, pleasant place, nice people, right across from a few popular Woodbury shopping centers.. I have never and I mean never had one thing here that wasn't super fresh and nicely done. When Sandy hit, they had take out ready for me in ten minutes, when other diners were complaining about takeout etc.. had all the extras in the bag too. Lighten up folks its a pleasant Diner.. and my all out favorite turkey dinner with the best stuffing on Long Island. Came here for dinner the other night with my daughter. The place was unbelievably packed, Every seat was filled and this is a big dinner. They sat us immediately and waiter came over with water and menus instantly. Waiter came back a few minutes later to take drink orders and see if we were ready to order or needed more time. Waiter was really on his game. I had the french dip with french fries, Basically a roast beef sandwich with french onion soup dipping bowl.
