This restaurant has the friendliest staff around! It made such a good experience. Helpful with choices of food and checked on us constantly during our meal to make sure we were good. We decided to eat outside on the veranda because the weather was perfect. My father ordered the Ribs... he could only eat 1/2 of them but he loved every bite. His meal came with collard greens and mac and cheese. ( he said the greens had just a bit of a southern bite to them , he enjoyed them) I ordered the Brisket sandwich platter. The brisket was really good. I couldn't eat it all and had to take some home. I ordered fries and Mac and cheese. Both were delicious. They had choices for BBQ sauces and our sweet server explained each. The atmosphere of the restaurant is very down home and welcoming... old wood floor home converted into restaurant. Friday 9/13/2024 I made a phone call order over the phone for a 3 meat combo of ribs,brisket, and a pulled pork sandwich with sweet potato fries & baked beans $22 and a slice of bread pudding $4.95. - the ribs were alright. (rating: 6.6/10) - The brisket was slightly above average. (rating: 5.8/10) - The pulled pork sandwich was awful: it was very bland, dry, and had an overly chewy texture that could've been tire bites in disguise. (Rating: 2/10) - The sweet potato fries were decent but I was very disappointed by the significantly smaller portion of fries that I ended up getting. - The baked beans were pretty solid as they ended up being one of the better items that I had. - The bread pudding was underwhelming but it wasn't terrible, just mediocre. - The bbq Sauces ended up being decent. On Q Smokehouse is a good local spot! The staff is always friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home. Sometimes service takes a while, sometimes it's fairly quick... but my beer glass has never been left empty. The food has never been bad or disappointing. It's a nice to place to stop by for a beer and some lunch. The prices are reasonable and every visit has left us satisfied and happy with our experience. We've been several times over the past 5 years, and it's never disappointed. Was working out here so decided to stop by for a bite! Great atmosphere with outside deck seating. Staff was very comforting and pleasant. I got the pulled pork sandwich with the sweet potatoe fries and it hit the spot. The sauce options were versatile and had a nice southern zing to them. Also got a pecan pie with the caramel drizzle. We wandered in around dinner time on a Friday. They were out of many items. Ultimately we got a full rack of ribs, a large order of fries, & a slice of kumquat pie to go. Before warming the ribs & fries up, I tried a rib: it was dry & the rub completely overpowered the taste of the meat. Sauces were ok. Frozen shoestring fries. I'm not sure how long On Q has been around, but I can remember the days of picking my daughter up from the St Leo University campus and taking her to lunch there. That was many years ago, and yet there it still remains. I recently found myself in the area again and how can I not stop for lunch? I ordered the Rib (on the bone) Sandwich, mainly as a joke to my co-worker that joined me. He couldn't understand why they would call it a sandwich if it was still meat on the bone. I told him it came served on a slice of white bread that you don't eat and he didn't believe me. Obviously, he has not been to many BBQ restaurants in his life. The ribs were a bit overcooked, but I was able to bury them with an assortment of On Q' signature sauces which came in Hot, Original, Sweet and Gourmet flavor. I think "Gourmet" is a stretch as I really couldn't pick out any distinguishable flavor. I stuck with sweet. The service is quick and friendly. I wouldn't be a bit surprised if they know their repeat customers by their first name. The prices are ridiculously cheap, which is a plus for the on campus students nearby. Good thing since On Q is about the only game in town for something to eat nearby. I live about an hour away, so I'm not sure when I'll be back. But I will be. read more

Stopped by Sunday just past noon for a delicious lunch. The ribs had a good bite, and the brisket was tender. The sides were good. Linda, my server, greeted me and checked on me a few times while eating. I sat outside and enjoyed a good meal. This was nice. Simple decor, could use some painting on and around the door, but cute rustic feel. Limited seating, about eight tables inside, about three outside. Though its in the heart of this little college towns, most of the patrons appear to be local residents and generally older, rather than lots of students. Very friendly and chatty server, simple and proper BBQ menu choices, food came out pretty fast and hot. BBQ was great, baked beans were good, salad.....not real inspiring, stick to the proteins, they're the star here. In the area for a CYE at Scream-A-Geddon, we tried using Yelp to find a restaurant as we drove. Maybe my cell signal is spotty around here, but we passed right by On Q Smokehouse without seeing it on the Yelp map. Since hubs was in the mood for wings, we turned around & headed back. Not sure what's cooked in the smokehouse, but nevertheless, I thoroughly enjoyed my meal. We started with a pair of Bud Light bottles and an order of Fried Okra. Our server also brought us Ranch for dipping. First time ever for me, though, I passed on the Ranch and ate those delicious okra pods *plain*. They were sooo good & tasted very fresh! I ordered the Pulled Pork Sandwich platter, which was served sans sauce & therefore perfect for me. But I also tasted their House, Mild, & Sweet sauces, and liked each one more than I expected as a non-BBQ enthusiast. Since I'm unappreciative of BBQ sauce flavors, I can not endorse any one of them because each was a bit different, and I don't feel qualified to recommend anything. However, since all of their sauces are available at every table, my opinion is less necessary. You can decide for yourself. For my sides, I chose Greens and Mac & Cheese. Their collard greens were very crisp & quite good. I loved that they didn't have a sharp spicy bite as many other BBQ places perpetuate. And in that vein, their Mac & Cheese was amazing! Rich & cheesy, with plump pasta and zero heat, it was possibly the tastiest I've ever had; definitely the best Mac & Cheese in recent memory. Thanks to Rachel M's review from several years ago, I see their porch is dog-friendly. Unfortunately, we don't get out to this area often, so I'm not sure when I'll have the opportunity to return to On Q Smokehouse. Pulled pork is decent, good with some of the sauce. Cole slaw was wild, very thick white sauce, Mayo I guess, but also strong vinegar flavor, and I'm pretty sure horseradish. Wonderful waitress. It was ok. The service was super slow. The beer draft wasn't working properly, but they still brought the beer. They had bottles of the same brand, so not sure why they didn't just offer that instead of bringing the draft beer. I asked for the pulled chicken plate, I received the pulled chicken sandwich. Which was dry chicken on a dry bun. I tried adding BBQ sauce to give it something and that didn't do much. I wasn't gonna complain because it took 30 to just get that. We had the ribs which were very meaty and had a lot of dry rub seasonings on them. I tried each of the different bbq suaces and they were all good, i liked the Original and the sweet the best. The kids menu is good but my littles always want what I order at this place. They do offer beer and soda as drink options. Only three stars because the meat was dry this time. I have learned over the years as food here can be hit or miss. When it was in the little food truck on the corner just pumping out food it was always fresh and incredible. If they would go back to the roots of the original tiny but super powerful tasty food truck, this place would be rocking. THIS IS THE ONLY REAL BBQ in the surrounding area. The one other BBQ joint is a chain called Bubbaque's, and it is utterly disgusting. Their special sauce is called Tractor Grease, and you can decipher from the name why they call it that. If you ever had the unfortunate circumstance of putting that garlic candy from the 1970s in your mouth, you'll have some idea of what this garbage taste like. So if you're looking for decent barbecue, this is your only local option. (Although Smitty's Smokehouse does sell ribs and pulled pork, though I'm not sure if they are always available. read more

This place is a cute little non chain bbq place that looks like an old house. They have a covered outside area w tons of fans to make dining super refreshing and be able to bring your dog. We picked a two meat combo w 2 sides - beef brisket pulled pork w fried green tomatoes & corn on cob. We also had to try the turkey leg which was not a combo option. The only terms and conditions on my Groupon were must order at least one food item (check) and not valid with happy hour(check). She said the last time a waitress accepted on the owner made her PAY IT BACK. This is ILLEGAL. I asked her to cal the owner and explain I was holding what amounts to a contract with zero stipulations on what I was ordering and he refused to honor it. This is a horrible way to run a business (coming from someone who's family has owned restaurants since the 1950's). Left the order and went to Famous Als Pizza. A good bbq place with great prices. We ordered the three meat platter with ribs, brisket (with fat), pulled chicken, and our sides were baked beans and collard greens. The ribs and brisket were very good as they had nice flavor and tender/fall off the bone. While the chicken was a bit dry, it was still good once you put bbq sauce on it. And the collard greens!!!!
