For a bar and grill this place was pretty chill. The dining area was about half full with only a handful of patrons at the bar, we were told we arrived during the "calm before the storm". We opened the doors unsure if we should sit anywhere or wait to be seated but before we had a chance to pull out chairs for ourselves a young lady asked us how many in our party as she guided us to a nice little corner table big enough for me and my three kids. She had menus in hand and seemed to have our drinks back to us before I could open the cover. I wanted to try a variety and our server recommended the Half Shell Seafood platter. I decided to mix it up a little and opted for blackened catfish and shrimp, grilled oysters, and of course a deep fried crab cake and a deep fried stuffed shrimp. This platter also came with a side salad and a bowl of seafood gumbo. All of it was too shelf and tasted like it was made to order. For an appetizer I went with the crispy artichoke hearts and let me tell ya, that was the right choice! The artichokes came out first and I had never had any other than in a spinach dip, now I couldn't imagine having them any other way. The perfect combination of tart and robust with a crispy, crunchy coating, these little vegetable orgasms were sprinkled with fresh shredded Parmesan and paired perfectly with the house marinara sauce. The order was big enough for both me and my two kids, but I devoured the plate before they had a chance to eat more than just a few. Even the blooming onion takes a backseat to my new favorite app. When the Half Shell Platter arrived I was anxious to see what kind of shock my tastebuds were about to experience and I was surprised in the best way. The catfish was cooked to perfection with a blackened flavor you can't match at home. The shrimp too, perfectly cooked and seasoned with no trace of a rubbery bite or overpowering flavor. First time having oysters grilled and I've got to say raw will always reign supreme, but these were a close second. The rest of the plate was what you'd expect, predictable and delicious. Not the kind of hole in the wall establishment I was looking for, but exactly the kind of authenticity. The server kept the drinks full and the table clear. We had a next to nothing wait time and the food was a 10/10. Well deserving of a five star rating, if I'm ever back in Baton Rouge I'll be stopping in again. read more

I love the food, service, and ambience of this place. They have their slightly more upscale side of the building, that's great for a more intimate setting and then they have their bar side where the band plays and has a more relaxed setting to it . So rather you're going here to celebrate an anniversary or just an evening brunch with friends, this place will make everyone feel good with the flowing drinks and food! The food is very good. I've had their (charbroiled) oysters and then their brunch (traditional style) and I have never been let down by the delicious food and exceptional service! Went to meet clients. Table of four. Special was Taco's. I ordered with grilled shrimp with Pico on the side. Pico was added by mistake, no problem but the grilled shrimp was so spicy, unedible. Looked blackened. I just took the shrimp off and ate the lettuce, tomato and sour cream taco because I was hungry and didnt want to make a scene and time was an issue. Never again. Overall good experience, came around lunch time and not a lot of people to be seated immediately and drinks immediately. Came back for our appetizer quickly for it to come out just as quickly!! (Which was AMAZING) the crawfish and shrimp dip. I tried the Guidry oysters (sample of different oysters) they were freshly made, but the regular chargrilled oysters didn't have much flavor.... I prefer more butter/cheese blend. The toast didn't even have butter on it & it didn't have much butter to "sop" up from the plate. The Nola oysters weren't much better in flavor. The other specialty oysters like Oyster Rockefeller, etc. were good . The crispy artichokes were good, fresh & hot... it was our first time having them. I ordered the traditional breakfast with French toast instead of pancakes. The French toast was decent & would've been great if it was soaked just a little more in batter & fresh. ... the grits & eggs needed some salt & pepper & butter. Bacon was crispy how I like. I unfortunately found a hair on my toast & my server sincerely apologized & offered a gumbo instead. My boyfriend ordered steak & eggs. I've been coming here for a while now, and have never had a bad experience. I absolutely love their burgers and New Orleans BBQ shrimp. They have the best BBQ shrimp I have ever had. It is jam packed with flavor and so good. Their burgers are the same way. If you're someone who appreciates good flavor in food (not spicy just flavorful) then this is the place for you. The shrimp were a bit small but fried to a very nice golden brown and seasoned well. Chicken and andouille gumbo was a nice rich brown color (with all the attendant flavor that goes with it) and well seasoned. Wife's seafood stuffed potato was, indeed, stuffed. Lots of shrimp and lumps of crabmeat and great seasoning. (Personally, I think crabmeat is too light and delicate for this kind of heavy treatment, but it was a good dish.) A guy at the table next to us had a huge hamburger that looked very good with a nice pile of golden, crispy looking fries. Started coming here years ago for crab claws and cold beer. I have been away for several years couldn't wait to bring my girl to some great food. Sadly, disappointed, the Crabcake Carolina and Black redfine mornay was terrible. No crab in the crabcake all breading. The drinks were terrible. Dinner on a Friday night for our party of 10... the restaurant wasn't very busy. It was nicely decorated and was clean. Our server was very friendly and the service we received was great. We ordered the Spinach & Artichoke Dip and the Onion rings appetizers. The onion rings were outstanding. The breading was well-seasoned and you could taste the slight hint of beer flavor. My Caesar salad was also good. Dressing was great and the lettuce was fresh. For my main, I ordered the Crawfish on the Bluff with stuffed potato. Although the stuffed potato was good, the catfish was too thin and the etoufee was so very salty I could not eat it. There was not nearly enough etouffee compared to the amount of fish but since it was so salty this was actually a good thing. Someone else at my table got the same dish and also found it to be extremely salty. I also got to try the Barbeque shrimp which was extremely salty as well, and the Praline Chicken which was good. read more

Oh man, this is a hidden gem! Their oysters are amazing! Of course the raw oysters are good, but raw oysters don't really vary from restaurant to restaurant. Their charbroiled oysters are something else though! I also really enjoy their outdoor seating, so if you don't want to be inside, there's options. To make it better they have been known to have live music outdoors from time to time. Lastly the place has always been clean for me and the staff have always been friendly. Had a blast spending an evening in the bar area with my family watching my cousin's band play. Nice crowd. They actually had to reserve a few tables to make sure we were able to sit together; although, the acoustics in this place aren't really suited for live music. The oysters looked great but I didn't have any that night; instead I ordered the Shrimp Remoulade Salad. Seemed a bit pricy with that and a Diet Coke coming out to around eighteen dollars. I've been to other places where you don't have to worry about extra grit from the oyster shell. The crawfish & Shrimp dip definitely was my fave, I loved the tortilla/flouta chips it came with. Hot gooey, and crunchy combination was perfect! The Blackened mixed grill was great, it had a nice kick to it. Service: great attitude and attentive. Decor': very traditional and modern blend, high bistro style seating, oyster bar in the middle, small stage for entertainment. Plasma tv for sports. Restroom: clean and elegant. Horrible service, this is my first review I've ever made and it sucks that it's not a good one. I went there last night with my little boy for the first time and was not even greeted. Our server(dont know her name) she was an older lady, big hair with highlights, not once had a complete sentence with us. Everything that came out of her mouth was one word. Super short with us the entire time. Did not ask how the food tasted. I did not care for the oysters so I simply pushed them to the corner of the table. She came back to the table and said "done with that ?". Did not ask why I didnt eat them or anything like that. Very very rude. Everyone talks up this place so I was excited to experience it. The atmosphere is great and the staff is friendly with a southern hospitality. The country fried steak is one of the best I've had, and the potatoes, white gravy, and green beans were incredible. Definitely worth the price! I only had two problems that brought my rating down from five stars: 1.) my napkin smelled like B.O. It was horrible and it almost made me lose my appetite, but I fortunately got one of the waitresses to bring me a new one. 2.) My waitress wasn't very attentive. Not once did she check up on me and I had to flag her down from across the room to pay.
