    GF dinner

This place is absolutely amazing! I came down for a work trip and this place was recommended to me. My co-worker has to eat Gluten Free and she was super impressed with the GF options. Our food tasted fantastic and I would be back. The GF hush puppies were amazing! A must try even if you are not GF. We also had some drinks that were also delicious. Our waiter was super nice and gave us some great recommendations as far as food goes. I absolutely love how quiet the place was and super nice inside. I would highly recommend eating here!

This quaint, little ducked off spot did not disappoint. There is an offstreet parking lot, indoor and outdoor seating. We went on a Saturday for lunch and didn't have any issues. We were greeted and sat immediately. Our server was very knowledgeable on the menu with great suggestions. We started with a Lemongrass Martini while we waited for our food. It was the perfect mix, not too sweet, not too overpowering. Very refreshing. For starters we had the Blue Crab Dip and the Cauliflower au Gratin. The crab dip came with this soft grilled sourdough bread for dipping, very warm and soft. The dip was very cheesey, came to the table bubbly and the crabmeat was fresh and plentiful. The Cauliflower au Gratin was tasty, also very cheesy in every bite. It was a little too oily though. We then decided on salads to keep it light after the appetizers. The Strawberry Fennel Salad was a delicious combination of fruit, veggies and crunch. They only had enough strawberries for one salad and offered to split between the two of us, and adding kiwi. Delicious substitute. And the Balsamic glaze paired with the Honey Lemon Vinaigrette was an added bonus. Topped with grilled shrimp, this salad is a must try. The menu is not overwhelming and offers variety. Overall, we had a good experience.

Great Anniversary dinner! Our waiter offered us complimentary champagne for our anniversary. We had the Fried Pimento Cheese Balls. They were really good, served with a pepper jelly. My husband enjoyed the seafood chowder which was a special. Both of our entrees were excellent. I had the grilled fish and he had shrimp & grits. Definitely recommend this place!

Years later, Eliza is still a gem that keeps shining brighter. While they are no longer offer brunch here, their lunch and dinners continue to be on point. Last night, we went for their annually themed Reveillon dinner. This is a limited price fixe menu ($48) with excellent options. I chose the turtle soup, leaving the sherry sauce off, and it was so tasty. It had a lot of different flavors, and offered something a little different. The other starter option was their Brussels sprouts dish, and I tried a taste of that. They were cooked to perfection, not too soft, not still crunchy. Everyone loved those. For my main, I chose the shrimp and risotto with sauteed arugula. It was again, full of flavor, and very filling. The ship were easy to eat. The strip steak looked absolutely amazing, and everyone finished theirs off. The dessert was a gingerbread cake with a light icing on crushed peppermint. Beautiful and really fresh and light. Of course, the service was absolutely amazing. We felt very comfortable and never rushed. Also, for their being voted one of the top 25 restaurants in BR, they have 25 cent French 75s for a limited time (limited 2 per person). My friends got those while I opted for a crisp glass of bubbles. The value and experience of this meal was so great. I need to come back again soon to try some of their new items.

Eliza's restaurant and bar is quaint and relaxing. We went right at opening on a Saturday. I could unfortunately smell a strong bleach scent. I love that the restaurant was cleaned but just be warned if you go at opening you might be smelling the cleaning products. Our service was absolutely excellent! My husband and I split our food and they did it for us. The soup was good, I was just hoping for a more thicker cheese soup. The salad was light and fresh. The burger was very good. Overall, I will be back for another burger. Just not right at opening.

Updated review: we came back 5 years later and WOW. Eliza procures their ingredients locally, and it truly shows. This is THE date spot in Baton Rouge, and I can't believe I've been sleeping on them for years. They have indoor and outdoor seating, and the ambiance is great for both. The staff here is so attentive and friendly. Summer was amazing and deserves a raise. Let's talk food: The eggplant appetizer was so refreshing and flavorful!! That pesto will be in my dreams tonight. The watermelon gimlet is a new favorite. Great balance of flavors! The gumbo ya ya was a delight. Great roux color, and I will stan any restaurant that gives me popcorn rice. Good rice to juice ratio. Can't wait to come back in the winter to get my cozy gumbo vibes.

Service good-our server made suggestions and attended to our concerns. To be a pricey restaurant it is situated in like a strip mall ( outdoor seating available-but looks like a mom and pop type indoors. Margarita is good but tiny for $14 dollars. Lemon Icebox pie frozen. Filet was ordered medium but came out well dine and charred ( server got us another one). Crispy potatoes tasty. Rabbit pasta was good-tomato taste. Crab cakes were decent topping gave them flavor-grits typical. Nice server gave us the option to substitute . Probably won't return next visit-server was the best part of the visit.

Had an early dinner at Eliza's. The service was friendly and prompt. The food was fresh and menu was thoughtful toward fresh local ingredients. Great wine and cocktails selection too. The atmosphere was inviting as well. We had an excellent dinner and will be back.

Shrimp and grits. Nice lemon flavor in the grits.

Food was delicious, very fresh and well prepared. Flavors and textures popped in my mouth. Service excellent and friendly. Very quick. Nice cozy intimate atmosphere. Wish it was a lil cheaper but feel it was worth it. Also would have been nice to have some complementary bread.

    Grilled Gulf Fish
    Liza S.

YES, YES, AND YES! I drove an hour from New Orleans to get here and it was 10000% worth it. Eliza is such a beautiful restaurant with great natural lighting, a relaxing vibe, delicious drinks, and fabulous food. We got the Grilled Gulf Fish (served with spinach and mushroom risotto, castelines olive oil, and fleur de sel) and Fried Chicken Sandwich (served with mornay sauce, coleslaw, and hand cut fries). The gulf fish the day we went was swordfish, which is one of my favorites. I absolutely LOVED this dish. The chicken sandwich was also delicious and such a generous size! There is no doubt that I'll be back here.

I can't rave enough about Eliza. The restaurant accepted our last minute reservation and we arrived to find our table ready. Our server was fantastic. She knew the menu intimately and was able to advise us about dishes that were safe for our dietary needs. Eliza's chef was able to make our dishes gluten free, prepared in a dedicated fryer. We enjoyed the fried green tomatoes and I'm telling you, they were the best I've ever had! Each dish was delicious and beautifully presented. Highly recommended for service, ambiance and tasty, authentic southern cuisine.

    Skillet cornbread, very dry
    Nikki F.

I visited for lunch and was disappointed in the menu options. I didn't see any of the items that reviewers posted. The waitress informed me that they had changed their menu in October. Unfortunately none of the new items appealed to me. I ended up getting the skillet cornbread which was VERY dry!! ( please go to Cecelia Creole Bistro for theirs) The butter that came with it was good but didn't help with the dryness. The fried fish appetizer was good. Make sure you look at the new menu before going.

We found Parrain's Seafood while searching for authentic Louisiana food and a good po'boy/seafood…read morespot before making our drive back home to Houston. We were in Baton Rouge helping our grandson move into his dorm as an incoming freshman at LSU, and Parrain's kept coming up in our searches and reviews. We decided to give it a try, and I'm SO glad we did! We visited on a Sunday afternoon around 2:30 p.m., and when I tell you EVERYBODY and their family was there... I mean everybody! The parking lot was packed. There is plenty of parking, but there were so many people that we still had to hunt for a spot. Thankfully, we found one under a shade tree because it was HOT! When we walked up, we fully expected a long wait. There is plenty of outdoor seating for people waiting, and I also noticed they have both steps and an accessibility ramp leading to the entrance. My daughter and I sat down while my husband stood in line to put our name on the list. About five minutes later, he was waving for us to come inside! Apparently, many of the people waiting were large groups and families coming from church, but since there were only three of us, they were able to seat us almost immediately. HUGE plus! Once inside, it was BUSY, BUSY, BUSY. It took our server a little while to initially get to us, but considering how packed the restaurant was, it really wasn't bad at all. Our waitress was very nice, and I was actually impressed with how quickly our food came out. Now let's talk about the FOOD!! We first ordered the onion rings for an appetizer... super delicious I ordered the fried shrimp platter, and those shrimp were fried to PERFECTION! Crispy, flavorful, and absolutely delicious. The meal also came with salad, fries, hush puppies, and a side. The hush puppies were SO GOOD! They are shaped almost like little donut holes... crispy on the outside and soft and savory on the inside. Delicious! For my side, I chose the fresh green beans instead of the dirty rice. Unfortunately, those were the one thing I didn't enjoy. They didn't have much flavor to me and seemed a little undercooked. Next time, I'll definitely choose another side. My husband ordered the fried catfish platter with dirty rice, coleslaw, and fries, and he loved everything. I tasted his coleslaw, and OH MY GOODNESS! Get the coleslaw! It was different from any coleslaw I've had before. It has whole peanuts in it, which sounds unusual, but somehow it WORKS! The peanuts add this wonderful crunch and flavor. It was SO good. And the French fries!! I've never seen fries cut this way before. They're almost shaped like little Scoop Fritos, with a crispy outside and soft potato inside. So unique and really good! My daughter ordered the catfish strips and fries from the kids' menu. These weren't processed little nuggets... they were actual pieces of catfish cut into strips, and she really enjoyed them. She also ordered the crab fingers, and those were another 10/10! They were incredibly well-seasoned with a little spice and tons of flavor. I tasted one and wanted MORE! I'm watching my sodium intake, so I behaved myself, but they were absolutely delicious. Overall, Parrain's was a 10/10 for us. The only thing I wouldn't personally order again would be the green beans. Everything else, from the shrimp and catfish to those amazing hush puppies, unique fries, crab fingers, and especially that coleslaw, was DELICIOUS. Yes, it was crowded and lively, but we still received really good service and didn't have to wait nearly as long as we expected. With our grandson now attending LSU, we'll be making plenty of trips back to Baton Rouge, and Parrain's has officially made our list of places we will be visiting again!
