One of Baton Rouge's hidden gems, my coworker raved about this spot leading me to come here with her and try it out myself for dinner. Now after dining here myself, I'm a firm believer! Apparently, they have an annual limited fixed-price menu ($48) with excellent options over three courses. Unfortunately that option was not available when we dined here in early November. So we went for the pimento cheese balls and I ordered the soup de jour which was a butternut squash bisque. Both items were savory and delicious. The pimento cheese balls is fried and served over some hibiscus pepper jelly which gives a nice sweet kick to the creaminess of the cheese. The bisque is creamy and has a nutty squash punch. We loved both very much! For entrees, I debated between the pork chop and sous vide rabbit. I went with the rabbit since I never had rabbit before (weird right?) and I'm glad I went with it. The rabbit has a nice crispy texture with a gamey taste yet the meat was quite tender when cutting into it. The apple chutney compliments the rabbit well and the butternut squash side and purple cabbage garnish make it a well-rounded dish. My friend/coworker ordered the grilled gulf fish which comes with a creamy risotto. The fish is super tender and pairs well with the risotto with an olive oil finish. We were both satisfyingly stuffed from our meal although we wish we saved room for dessert. Definitely next time! They have an extensive wine and cocktail list. The Strawberry Oaxacan is a favorite along with the Kiwi Daquiri due to the exotic fruit flavors. Sadly I couldn't snap any pictures as I was caught up in sipping my Century Oak Zinfandel. I'm glad they have a Red Zinfandel which is my preferred wine of choice as it's easy to sip and not as full-bodied. Gotta give my friend props for bringing me here. This place is absolutely amazing! I came down for a work trip and this place was recommended to me. My co-worker has to eat Gluten Free and she was super impressed with the GF options. Our food tasted fantastic and I would be back. The GF hush puppies were amazing! A must try even if you are not GF. We also had some drinks that were also delicious. We were greeted and sat immediately. Our server was very knowledgeable on the menu with great suggestions. We started with a Lemongrass Martini while we waited for our food. It was the perfect mix, not too sweet, not too overpowering. Very refreshing. For starters we had the Blue Crab Dip and the Cauliflower au Gratin. The crab dip came with this soft grilled sourdough bread for dipping, very warm and soft. The dip was very cheesey, came to the table bubbly and the crabmeat was fresh and plentiful. The Cauliflower au Gratin was tasty, also very cheesy in every bite. It was a little too oily though. We then decided on salads to keep it light after the appetizers. The Strawberry Fennel Salad was a delicious combination of fruit, veggies and crunch. They only had enough strawberries for one salad and offered to split between the two of us, and adding kiwi. Delicious substitute. And the Balsamic glaze paired with the Honey Lemon Vinaigrette was an added bonus. Topped with grilled shrimp, this salad is a must try. Years later, Eliza is still a gem that keeps shining brighter. While they are no longer offer brunch here, their lunch and dinners continue to be on point. Last night, we went for their annually themed Reveillon dinner. This is a limited price fixe menu ($48) with excellent options. I chose the turtle soup, leaving the sherry sauce off, and it was so tasty. It had a lot of different flavors, and offered something a little different. The other starter option was their Brussels sprouts dish, and I tried a taste of that. They were cooked to perfection, not too soft, not still crunchy. Everyone loved those. For my main, I chose the shrimp and risotto with sauteed arugula. It was again, full of flavor, and very filling. The ship were easy to eat. The strip steak looked absolutely amazing, and everyone finished theirs off. The dessert was a gingerbread cake with a light icing on crushed peppermint. Beautiful and really fresh and light. Of course, the service was absolutely amazing. We felt very comfortable and never rushed. Also, for their being voted one of the top 25 restaurants in BR, they have 25 cent French 75s for a limited time (limited 2 per person). Eliza's restaurant and bar is quaint and relaxing. We went right at opening on a Saturday. I could unfortunately smell a strong bleach scent. I love that the restaurant was cleaned but just be warned if you go at opening you might be smelling the cleaning products. Our service was absolutely excellent! My husband and I split our food and they did it for us. The soup was good, I was just hoping for a more thicker cheese soup. The salad was light and fresh. The burger was very good. This is THE date spot in Baton Rouge, and I can't believe I've been sleeping on them for years. They have indoor and outdoor seating, and the ambiance is great for both. The staff here is so attentive and friendly. Summer was amazing and deserves a raise. Let's talk food: The eggplant appetizer was so refreshing and flavorful!! Eliza is such a beautiful restaurant with great natural lighting, a relaxing vibe, delicious drinks, and fabulous food. We got the Grilled Gulf Fish (served with spinach and mushroom risotto, castelines olive oil, and fleur de sel) and Fried Chicken Sandwich (served with mornay sauce, coleslaw, and hand cut fries). The parking lot was large but there weren't many parking spots available close to the restaurant. On with it. Let's say our experience was a very good one. Wow. How am I just finding Eliza?! Husband and I went here for his birthday lunch a couple days ago and were both impressed with the ambience, service, and food. Mandatory masks in East Baton Rouge Parish currently (thanks to COVID), so we complied as did all the workers. Quite the rainy day outside, but still all the tables (every other table per social distancing) were full while we dined. No wait though as their service was quite efficient. The menu options are one of a kind. They use local farmers for produce, and handmade sauces, pestos, etc. Prices reflect this, but still, worth every penny. We started with cocktails. Watermelon Basil Mohito on rocks for me; Lagavulin scotch neat for the hubs. For appetizer, we devoured the amazing Grilled Eggplant Napoleon. The homemade pecan pesto was scrumptious! I would have licked my plate clean had I not been judged by onlookers. Then for entree we shared the fried catfish over crawfish étouffée, and it was amazing. I was disappointed, however, that they first served us the Cheese Plate without pecans or raisins. When we addressed this with our server, she came over with a dish of pecans but informed us they were out of raisins. I wish we would've been informed before-hand that they were out of raisins before we were just given the dish without them. Additionally, the Grilled Gulf Fish with the spinach & mushroom risotto was delicious! I really loved the fish and the risotto.
