Welcome to the North Valleys for one day of awesomeness! Everyone lost their mind knowing these guys were coming to town, and this time, giving the North some much deserved goodness. They hung out at Smith's from 11a-7p and came prepared. The line was long but they served fast. The result of the wait... a full stomach! Freshly prepared beer-battered line caught cod and home cut beer bartered steak fries A simple menu that is just plain awesome. Prices are fair for the portion although the extra piece was a little more than I thought but still decent overall for the total meal per person. I hope they come back and I almost wished they gave us a couple days - I'm now ON THE HOOK for more when they return. Marlin, Ashley and Rob are stirring up things at the Village at Double Diamond shopping center. They keep a busy line moving from open to close when they arrive. Fish and chips is fantastic here. Fish is cooked crispy and not oily with a light salty finish. Inside the fish is flaky and cooked well. Chips are steak fries cooked crisp with al light salt finish. Was at the AutoZone in Sandy and the over the top tip shaming was shocking. The fish is great but I don't want to be ripped on for not giving a tip. The guy that took my order was rude when I didn't give a tip (after being offended by how in-your-face he was about it). After the next customer ordered and was berated for a tip and gave it, the guy yelled in my general direction thanking said customer for the tip while barking about how it was just two poor slaves in the truck and he had kids to feed. This behavior kept up as more orders were taken and I stood waiting for the food. Hey On The Hook..... don't hire losers that need a fish truck job to take care of their kids! You may know my story. I'm new to Utah so still looking to replace all my go to spots I had in Las Vegas. You know when you bite into the fish and you can immediately tell if the fish was previously frozen . This is far from it. The fish is meaty, delicious and perfectly breaded. The chips aren't bad but the fish is the star of the plate. With the order you will receive 1 fry sauce, 1 tater sauce and 2 ketchup packets. The young man that took my order was very friendly and helpful. There was no line and the order was delivered less than 10 minutes. Worth the wait. Highly recommend and I will be back. The service was friendly and I appreciated that the food was made to order. I ordered 1 order of fish and chips and an order of cole slaw. The only drinks they offered were 2 cane sugar sweetened sodas of their own brand, so I passed on those. The fish tasted very fresh and the beer batter had a very pleasing flavor, and the portions were ample. The fries were on-par with fast food fries. On a scale of 1-10 I'd give them a 5 and would pass on ordering them next time. The Slaw was pretty disappointing, being just a cole slaw mix as you might expect from a bag, was served dry with a container of about 1 Tsp of a very non-traditional dressing. I did not like either and I love cole slaw. Very disappointing. I received my food in about 15 minutes. It came in a durable fiberboard container and included a fork, a tub of tartar sauce, a tub of sweet chili sauce (which I did not taste), and 2 packets of "fancy" ketchup. Sadly, no napkins. After hearing and reading great recommendations about this food truck, my wife and I decided to try it today. It was located in the Smith's parking lot in South Reno. There were quite a few people in line ordering. The ordering went relatively quick. We ordered the fish and chips with one extra piece of fish and some cole slaw, with tip about $24. The staff was very friendly. The cooked fish and fries were placed in a recyclable box as was the cole slaw. There were no tables or chairs to eat there so we drove home to eat......only 7 minutes away. Cardboard carrier showed signs of oil leaking through. The fries were crispy and good with very little salt. The cole slaw was a mix cabbage with a small container of asian dressing. The fish was disappointing. Each piece had crispy batter, but we expected more fish. As we bit in to each piece we got batter, air and then fish that had little flavor. We are glad we tried it but will not return. read more

I've had on the hook fish and chips twice now. The first time it was amazing and cooked to perfection. The fries were amazing as was the fresh cod. However my latest encounter left me wanting something different. The fries were bland despite appearing seasoned, but no salt at all which was odd. The fish was soggy and very inconsistent in the cook. The cost is fair for fresh fish and chips. The serving sizes are honestly inconsistent and a little disappointing. The sauces are pretty yummy overall and I would definitely ask for extra tartar sauce. We even paid extra for a second serving of fries which seemed kinda pitiful. I've been wanting to try this food truck for quite awhile....finally the " planets aligned " ! Covid provided the perfect opportunity. The staff is super friendly, small menu however makes it easy for ordering. It was rather busy when I went(4:00). Took about 20 minutes for my order to be up! Fish and chips were very tasty. We came when they first opened and there were a lot of people here actually. To start they served us shrimp chips! It was so nostalgic for me (grew up eating them as a treat on holidays!) The presentation of a giant balloon like steam bag is definitely impressive and fun! I got some sort of a combo steamed seafood and the house sauce. It was really yummy, the mussels and shrimp were great, I wasn't a huge fan of the crawfish, they felt a bit rubbery, reflecting likely not the most fresh. It was our first time at the Minden, NV location. I went early so the line wasn't too long which was a good thing since it was pretty cold outside and I didn't have warm enough clothes on for the time I had to wait. I've been to the On The Hook food truck in Gladstone and loved it, but this was my 1st time at this location. The process is all the same: You walk up to the truck and place your order and they call your name once your order is ready. I was super excited this place parked in Grain Valley tonight! Been looking forward to it for days and it didn't disappoint. When I first opened the box, I thought it didn't look like a lot of food, but I was way wrong. It was plenty of food and I'm stuffed! The fish was super flaky and moist, with a not-too-thick batter that was perfectly fried. A lot of the fries were slightly overdone for my taste, but the ones that weren't were very good and crispy. I'm not the person who goes crazy when it comes to dinners with any kind of fried fish, but this was amazing! I'm really sad that they aren't here all the time, because we would probably go there maybe once a month. I feel really lucky that they chose the North Valleys for their location this evening, regardless of the people who complained that it wasn't in South Reno or Sparks!
