I like Rumbi, but this location isn't as good as others in the Salt Lake area that I've been to. To start, the staff member who took our order wasn't friendly. The restaurant only had two other people in it, who were already eating, but he was very impatient and seemed annoyed that we were there. Service is a 1.5/5. The portion sizes seemed a bit smaller than normal as well. Instead of serving dine-in guests using their normal bowls, everyone gets tin takeout bowls due to COVID. Maybe this is why portions seem smaller. The summertime strawberry salad was delicious. The candied nuts and perfectly ripe fruit provided a nice sweetness to the lettuce and chicken, which was the best-cooked chicken I've had from Rumbi before. I've been to many Rumbi's in Utah but this one specifically is my favorite. The girl helping me, Bry, has an immaculate energy that turned my gloomy day into a sunshine. I'm trying to get more excited about what Rumbi does, but it's kinda tough. I'm not down on it--it's different than your average burger chain or sandwich stop. So I give them lots of cred for that. But it's not exactly making my engine rev up, and I think a lot of it centers around the price. Look--I'm willing to pay a few bucks for my lunch. Especially when it's unique and different. So I was ready to so that the other day at Rumbi when I sauntered in. Most things on the menu run somewhere near the the $7-8 dollar mark, but when I saw the rice bowls (the main attraction here) leave the kitchen, I'm not sure I saw seven or eight bucks on the tray. Do you know what you can get for eight bucks? I've purchased an incredible tie for less than that at a vintage shop in San Francisco. A pair of old cufflinks. Two banh mi. That great big 64-pack of crayons. And many other random items. I was in a bind and so I got a simple chicken sandwich. It was still in the six buck range, but it was a delicious bird. Not six bucks delicious, but close enough. This parking lot is hopping on Saturdays with lots of shoppers competing for space around the development. Getting to the food I ordered chicken & shrimp with brown rice for $9.98 and my son ordered a rice bowl with chicken for 8.95. My entree Came with a Cesar salad. Overall very tasty and flavorful. Chicken and shrimp were very good. Tasted fresh.....even there are no oceans nearby. My son's entree was a big bowl of white river with vegetables and Chicken. He liked it as well. This place is not that great. I ordered a teriyaki chicken bowl with noodles and vegetables. It's not flavorful, there isn't much meat or veggies for the amount of noodles, and they don't give you even close to enough sauce for the amount of noodles, chicken, and veggies. I also buy hundreds of dollars of gift cards every year. All other restaurants in the valley give you $5 in gift cards for every $25 you purchase. Rumbi only gives rumbi buck certificates. It's ridiculous that rumbi only allows one $5 rumbi buck certificate redemption per transaction. On top of that, the new lady that's been at the register the past 6 months does not allow me to use the Rumbi bucks with my emailed coupon. She doesn't understand that one is a coupon and the other is a certificate. I've informed her that I've been going here for a very long time, but she doesn't care. I had to walk out today because she was so rude. Rumbi bucks are not coupons, they are certificates that were awarded by buying gift cards. I had been here before and was looking forward to eating here. I had high expectations. When I walked in, I noticed that the chairs were turned up on several tables, as if they were getting ready to close. However it was an hour until closing and there were people dining and still arriving to eat. When I went to place my order, the cashier told me that "the corporation does not recommend" the combination of meat and sauce that I had chosen. So I chose something different. Again, he told me that was not a recommended combination. Finally I said why don't you just tell me what would be good to eat here, he obliged. In the spirit of diplomacy, I ordered what he recommended. When I sat down, I noticed it was pretty chilly. I had to leave my jacket on while I ate. One customer blew her nose, making loud noises and examining the tissue each time she blew into it. Other customers were getting their food to go. The cashier brought my food.
