The boy in the front counter just said "DoorDash?" and after confirming the boy just placed the food on the counter. My man said "Thank you" and the kid didn't say anything back. We are originally from Hawaii and for a place portraying Hawaiian/Polynesian food and culture we sure didn't feel the "Aloha Spirit". Their customer service was severely lacking! Then the food - we ordered the 2 meat combo plate with the garlic chicken and kalua pig, rice, mac, and sapa sui. Also, the Katsu with fries, guava cake, and mango otai. The otai and the guava cake were decent. The Katsu was cooked well, but lacked crunch. The garlic chicken and kalua pig were so dry and tasted bland. The Mac salad lacked flavor also, the sapa sui was just okay. Overall, just super disappointed in the food. We've heard about them through reels claiming they were really good. We always try to support local, especially the poly community here in Utah but our experience just wasn't the greatest. This place is very similar to Mo Bettahs, but also different in its own way! My sister thought the pork here was better and we loved the pineapple dessert we got. I was really disappointed with my experience here. The gravy on the loco moco was so thick it seemed like it had been sitting since yesterday and just reheated. We ordered a loco moco 2/10, chicken Katsu & BBQ Chicken 4/10. On top of that, they didn't have any fountain drinks available, and the Hawaiian Sun cans were very limited because they were out of most flavors. The cans cost about $3 and had only 2 flavors available. The staff were nice and I felt bad for them because everything was out. My experience at The Salty Pineapple was, without question, the most bizarre and infuriating restaurant experience I have ever had. If I could give zero stars, I would. We placed an online order, which was confirmed to be ready at 6:05 PM. Arriving promptly at that time (around 6:05-6:10 PM), I checked in with the staff. The person at the counter casually told someone in the back about my pickup order, acknowledged me, and then... nothing. I sat there for over 20 minutes without a single update. Meanwhile, my wife was waiting outside, wondering what was going on. It became evident that chaos was the standard operating procedure at this place. Several other customers were also waiting in confusion. A couple seated inside was given food that wasn't even theirs. After they inspected it and realized the mistake, they returned it to the counter--at which point, the staff turned around and handed it off to the drive-thru customer who had been waiting just as long. Yes, food that had been opened and handled by another customer was then given to someone else. Completely unacceptable. Meanwhile, I'm still waiting. My wife, now frustrated, comes inside to ask about our order. The staff is completely clueless. One of them mumbles something about shrimp, another acts as if they just realized they forgot to make it. There was zero urgency, zero communication, and zero regard for customer service. At this point, I had had enough. I told them to cancel my order and issue a refund. Their response? One of the employees laughed. Yes, laughed at a paying customer who had been waiting for nearly 40 minutes with absolutely nothing to show for it. To top it off, an older employee emerged, looking completely out of it, mumbled something along the lines of "I think I'm just gonna go home," and walked out. That perfectly sums up the energy of this entire place--apathetic, disorganized, and incapable of running a functioning restaurant. Every single customer inside was either confused, frustrated, or outright robbed of their time and money. There was no effort to apologize, no attempt to provide updates, no accountability whatsoever. It was a complete disaster from start to finish. By the time we finally walked out at 6:45 PM--40 minutes after our supposed pickup time--we had no food and a ruined evening. The owners of this establishment should be ashamed. They need to fire their entire staff and start over. The level of incompetence and unprofessionalism here is beyond comprehension. I love the huge menu and Good Vibes Only signage. The staff was quick, kind, and I even got a 50% off my second meal coupon from Yelp that I got to use. Amazing! I went there and bought an order of coconut shrimp and a drink. My shrimp was old and super oily. Guy at the window was not very friendly and did not give me my receipt like I asked. When he saw me looking for it he then said he would print one out after we were done. I think he knew he didn't give it to me for whatever reason and realized I actually wanted it when I asked. When I got home my order went in the trash except for the drink. I have only been here a few times and the food is usually good but the service is usually odd or not very friendly. I've been wanting to try this place for awhile and finally made the trek to Herriman. The restaurant has a hawaiin theme with palm trees and surfboards throughout the restaurant. It reminded me of a tiki bar. The guy that helped me had great suggestions on what to try. I will need to get a teriyaki rice bowl, guava cake and spam musubi next time because they are the most popular menu items. I tried the pineapple otai drink which was too chunky for my liking. I've been in to eat several times, and I must say the tofu is the BEST I've ever had. Perfectly crispy and crunchy, so satisfying and filling with the fluffy rice and cabbage. My favorite is the garlic sauce ( But I am including a picture of the pineapple jalapeño bbq tofu which is also good just too spicy for me- to show portion sizes and how pretty the presentation is.) I have only been in once where my order was made with the wrong sauce, other than that it has been perfect every time. I wanted to share about a particularly great experience I had this week. The woman running the truck was so friendly and helpful- she greeted everyone with an "aloha!" and apologized for the wait (there was a huge crowd for an event). I got the sweet garlic chicken entree. The sauce was delicious- but the chicken was pretty hard (overcooked? I'm not sure), and that's why I wouldn't get this again. I'm not one to usually gush over food (or anything), but I might have to make an exception for The Salty Pineapple. After my meal last night, I'm gushing. It was that good! Yes, they have a food truck, which I'm sure is amazing. But my experience was dining in at their restaurant. There was a sign in the door that said they were open for dine in, but the door was locked. We almost left, but then saw another door and thought to try it. Success! It was open. Turns out, due to COVID, they have one door designated as the entrance and one as the exit. Makes sense, but wasn't clear from the outside. We were the only guests in the place, which felt odd, but kind of nice at the same time. The chipper lady at the counter greeted us and answered a few questions while we figured out what we wanted. We learned that there are two options for your meal-in a plate or in a bowl. They both include the same amount of food, but the plate separates them and the bowl stacks them. I like my food bifurcated, so the plate was the perfect choice for me! I got the Hawaiian BBQ mix and my wife got the Pops Sweet Garlic Chicken. It only took a few bites before I knew I was hooked. The flavor was great, the portion sizes very generous and everything was very well done. I was only able to eat half of it, but the other half was quickly scarfed down by my teenage son when I brought it home. The ambience is island-like and the service is attentive and friendly. It was my first time at this place and the employee at the drive-through was very helpful since I was undecided. Menu options were easy to read and the condiments were clean and accessible. We placed our order and were given our food as we finished paying. We ordered the Teriyaki Chicken and a musabi. Both were good, but the standout was the teriyaki chicken! You could taste the care in the fire-grilled chicken thigh...and doing that with the teriyaki sauce made such a difference! I have to agree with my five-year old when she said, "Mom, this is the best chicken and spam!!" I'm a picky musabi eater and the thickness of the spam was spot-on! We ordered a side of Mac salad and it was above par as well. The ratio of mayonnaise to noodle was perfect and seasoning wasn't overwhelming, it was just right! I decided to stick with the salad which ended up making me sick for the next day and a half. If certain proteins cost more, it would be nice if this was updated. Additionally, I ordered a TWO protein plate and was only offered one sauce, when I asked for a second sauce I was charged $.25. REALLY?? Long story short, I left feeling like I was price gouged and it ruined the experience. Then I got home, to use my $.25 extra "teriyaki sauce" it was watered down and just ran to the bottom of the plate. At the end of the day $1.25 isn't even on my radar, its the principal and lack of transparency.
