This once upon a child was filled to the brim with people's sale items. Bins upon bins.. it was a mess. The line where you wait to cash out had boxes stacked up that you had to stand next to, kind of like a corralle.. . Each bin had signs on them saying not to touch them and that the items weren't for sale yet. The toy area didn't have much for selection. The shoes were totally disorganized. The boy shoe bins had girls in it, nothing was sorted by size. We are from out of town and this store was not organized like our version of the store back in our state. Bummer. read more

Regardless of new with tags or gently used . Trust the many bad reviews on here, it speaks for itself . Came with a full bin of clean NEATLY FOLDED clothing. They took over 20 items and offered $8!!! Great place to find cute clothes to fit build a bears and other stuffed animals. Other than that, not much use for this store. Most of the preemie clothes are $1.50. The service is hit or miss. I got blank stares, complete silence, and shrugs from the older staff member last time I was there looking for a specific toy. It wasn't a language barrier. I'm so happy I found this place, not only to donate my babies old clothes but to find some new (to us) clothes! It's super organized, clean and plenty of options. I will say the girl selection is far bigger than the boy section but still huge compared to other places I've been. The prices are more than fair too. I brought in over 200 items that had either never been worn, or worn once / did not fit and never worn again. Brand new never worn snowsuits, coats, outfits of all seasons and sizes ranging from newborn to 3T. Some with tags or in original packaging (shoes/etc.) they took two full blue bins of items, allegedly only 53 items... but I only got $43 dollars????? Let alone the fact I only was given 42 items back. Where are the other 100+ items? There were too many people in line I already have enough social anxiety I took my things and left distraught and angry... whole ride home I'm thinking there is no way I got under a dollar per item, let alone not even getting all of the other items back. A review for sellers: I called Once Upon A Child to confirm they would consider taking a children's bed frame (in extremely good condition) without the mattress. The sales representative, (who's name I did not get) agreed they would consider the bed frame without the mattress. After loading the frame in the car, my boyfriend was told they would not accept the frame without the mattress. This was extremely frustrating and a complete waste of our time. The woman who works the counter when you're trying to sell stuff is super polite, but they have several women who work the checkout counter that clearly hate their jobs, their customers, and their life. I'm actually embarrassed for them. I would also agree with other reviewers about how they don't take a lot of clothes for ridiculous reasons, but when you're in there trying to buy stuff lots of clothes have grease stains or holes. I really enjoyed shopping here for my kids up until recently. Shopping as much as I have to due to size change, the prices are amazing. 75% or more off retail prices- and USUALLY in good shape. I've bought multiple items from here that they wouldn't take back because they were "missing an accessory" although that's the way that I purchased the item from them! I think that's garbage, personally, because items were the same exact condition as purchased IF not better because they came back clean. And then they say stuff like "we don't take xbrand back or ybrand back because it doesn't sell- haha- I BOUGHT it HERE! I spend too much money with these people to be bothered by this nonsense. Biggest scammers around they definitely know how to make themselves some money I sent my husband to sell some baby toys because people online say that when you send your husband, it gets you more money. My mistake was doing that and him not knowing that there was around 50 toys in the bag that he was going up there to sell to them they only showed him around 4 to 5 toys that they were buying, which is the scamming part of this whole scenario, but they bought every single one of those toys they gave him the bag back with a pair of pants in it not a single toy. I called up there to ask what I could do about this because those toys equal to be around $370 brand new, no I know this place sells them for half off to a quarter of the retail price so I should at least gotten around $100 these toys all actively still worked and talked. I made sure to include batteries as well. I cleaned up every single toy very nicely and for them to just steal every single one of them and only give me $17 for it all . I'm the one who calculated the price before going to sell the toys in the first place because I know this place has scammed multiple people even stolen items from their bags like they did mine. I am beyond upset because the person who bought the items was the manager so I cannot contact her and do anything about it because she knows exactly what she is doing to scam people out of their money when trying to sell to that store, she is the same one who tried to tell me my babies bibs were used, and my son passed away at two months old in 2020 he didn't even get to touch a single one of those bibs. He didn't eat food yet. I'm not even gonna bother and try to get my money back because their policy is after you sell to them you can't really get anything back, so good luck. If you're going to sell clothes here I would recommend you try Facebook marketplace, people love buying bundles of baby clothes and toys on there and they'll give you what the toy and clothes are actually worth. Also, if you're going to buy baby clothes here, be aware, they have a lot of stained clothing mostly girls they have an aisle two or boys I never could even find clothes for my son there the largest location around and they have the least amount of boys clothes around. considering I tried to to sell them bags and bags of clothes years ago and they only took one or two items. Although I'm basically anti-chain, I have to say this store had a lot of merchandise nicely displayed. Their prices are a little higher than some stores but I'm sure the stripmall location and number of employees to cover the store add onto their overhead. You'd have to be looking for something pretty unusual or highly popular as to be out of stock to not find what you were looking for in here. I might not make this my only source of clothes and equipment but I would certainly include it in my rounds if I had a child outgrowing his stuff everytime I turned around. STORE HAS MOVED I tried to visit after finding this on Yelp. It is now located at 1759 N Canton Center Rd. Canton, MI 48187 Having been a frequent visitor of another Once Upon A Child, I was pleasantly surprised with the Canton location. It's much bigger than I expected! It's very easy to find what I'm looking for clothes wise as they are wonderfully sorted and categorized. One thing I noticed is that out of season clothing is no where to be seen. I wanted to pick up some shorts but was unable to find any. If you're looking for boy clothes, you have a smaller selection as with any child consignment store but the selection was bigger than I expected. The store was clean and organized. The toys were mostly in the designated area but many were kept on a higher shelf to avoid being played with which I appreciated. There was also a massive amount of larger pieces, such as strollers and sleepers. The book selection was a little weak. I spent a decent amount of time thumbing through for books for my classroom but didn't find anything I liked. The service was courteous. I don't expect people to just at the opportunity to help me but a smile goes a long way. Overall, this store is larger, cleaner, and better organized than any other Once Upon A Child I've been to. Really disappointed in this location! Entered with a face shield on to be asked if there was a reason I didn't have a mask on underneath. Told My story and was told ok no problem but 2 mins later tracked down by same employee to be told I couldn't shop on store without a mask on! It's a face shield so my whole face is covered and it's considered a face covering per the mandate not law! There service is not very pleasant. At buying time it is unpleasant. The clothing they have is in generally good shape. It is reasonably priced and there are a lot of choices. The book prices are too high and selection is anemic. They have a wide variety of toys but many show signs of wear or miss pieces. I like that they are still trying but staff seems unhappy and management is stiff. Parking is plentiful. Traffic is heavy at peak hours. read more

Welcome to your future for the next 18 years. Infants grow like weeds and toddlers need 27 pairs of pants to get through the week. Those jeans you cuffed last week are now pegged ankle crops on your now leggy son or daughter. The cashiers in Target smile when you trudge through the door to load up your cart with yet more clothes, when the last load barely made it through the wash twice before Dearest Darling outgrew them. Here's a secret though: you can take your gently used baby stuff and kid's clothes to Once Upon a Child; and you can purchase them too at a fraction of what you'd pay in the store. OUAC is an offshoot of Plato's Closet, where all the savvy juniors shop, and their rarer to find but upscale sister, Clothes Mentor. They have many stores around metro Detroit, but this ranks among the best due to its size and selection. OUAC accepts all kinds of clothes and shoes, accessories, winter coats, toys, and larger baby gear like bouncers, strollers, and carseats. Let this be the place to offload all those swings and rockers you accumulated for the brief period when your baby was smaller than a breadbox. The store is roughly divided into girls and boys sections, as determined by a pink or blue label. I know, shocking. These further split into preemie up to teenage sizes, arranged on tight racks according to garment type (shirts, pants/shorts, dresses, coats) and roughly by colour. Specialty or seasonal items tend to float around on end caps, and the perimeter holds toys, gear, books, and more. OUAC's structure works for zeroing in on the 2T boys shirts or 6M girl's onesies. Girls have a serious advantage; the boys section seems pretty scanty by comparison. Use a cart (or stroller) to hold onto different outfits to save your sanity and be aware, going in, the aisles are pretty tight. And always check labels! It's common to find 18M in the 24M section or 3T lurking among 2Ts. Labels run from Carters to Janie and Jack. Persistence is key here. I've scored awesome deals for expensive sweaters and pants, and a snowsuit, with a bit of digging. OUAC failed to deliver on a basic pair of suit pants or a jacket on my last visit. It also goes without saying prime time on weekends is a madhouse. Phone to find out best hours for consigning items, as the staff is happy to notify when they're swamped or quiet. I've not used the consignment function of OUAC very often, so cannot comment well on how fair the percentage earned per item is. Be realistic about items you purchased nearly new or with tags on could probably sell for more on Ebay or at a mom-to-mom sale. Verdict: 3.5 stars. Decent prices and great selection keep my baby budget low. Note: the store moved in December 2015 from its location next to Tuesday Morning/DSW to a shopping mall on Canton Center Road. I visited on 12/26 and they had not moved into their final storefront. read more

This place has been my go to place for my boys clothing. If you are patient and are willing to take time and look through the racks, you'll find some awesome deals. HOWEVER there's two reasons I knocked off two stars: 1) I have had ZERO luck selling them clothes. I know they are picky so I make sure to pick out the clothes that are just about in mint condition and every single time I try to sell, they barely take a thing. However as I'm looking through the racks, I'm constantly finding clothing that should've never passed their inspection. 2) the place is a mess. It's overwhelming trying to find things. Awful. They've been in their closet of a temporary location for much, much longer than acceptable. Their temporary location is a joke...there is no bathroom (not even for the employees as I was told by one - is that even legal?!!!), no changing room (the solution is to take it home, try it on your kid, and bring it back in less than 7 days, as was recommended to me by an employee), and no standard play area for the kids. Their clothing selection is next to none - not one single pair of jeans for a size 5 boy in the beginning of January...and $6 for a pair of sweatpants with a huge yellow stain on the white stripe going down the side. I was in the parking lot early on Saturday waiting for Tuesday Morning to open when I witnessed something I had never thought to see. It looked like a scene from "The Grapes of Wrath", as caravans of minivans arrived to unload their plastic bins into the store. I could only imagine what was inside those bins. I certainly wasn't going to walk in front of the herd and get run over! I've never been on the buying end at Once Upon a Child, so I can't comment on that. But this place is AMAZING for selling old kids' clothing and toys! We have sold boxes upon boxes of things here from when my siblings and I were kids, and it's so simple! They pay very little for what they get, but it's such a better option than just donating or dealing with the hassle that is eBay or a garage sale. You can just drop off your stuff and come back an hour later or so for the money and whatever they didn't buy! They are very selective with what they buy, but I consider that to be a good thing, since the buyers are only selecting from the best merchandise that comes through the doors. P.S. Whoever said they only buy on certain days is wrong. They buy every day of the week- just be sure to come at least an hour or so before closing. read more

Have not been to this location since they moved a few years ago and was very pleasantly surprised at the new larger store and how nicely everything is separated into seasons and sizing. Was blessed with a new grandbaby recently and went into this store after seeing it advertised about having a winter coat sale and walked out with a huge bag of fall/ winter clothes for our granddaughter. The clothing was all in good shape and only found a single item that I purchased that had a small stain on it. I noted that they still carry items like toys etc but primarily went into the store only for clothing. I would recommend to anyone a trip to this location. Children outgrow clothing so fast that this is just a really nice option instead of purchasing all new clothing for play wear etc. read more

Have been to this location several times. Took my sons clothes (nb to 12mo) here when we were financially struggling. Staff was incredibly rude. They would tell me that all of the clothing was stained and worn - just for me to bring the same clothes back 2 weeks later and have them buy them. On one visit, I asked an employee about this. I was told that maybe they didnt want to buy from me after all and would be going back through the items to check for additional wear. So rude! Staff is incredibly unwilling to help parents with the door/totes. They will watch you struggle, with baby in hand, rather than help. Also, the store always smells incredibly musty. read more

I have been both on the buying and the selling end of this OUAC. Usually we went to the Novi location because it was closer to us but now that store is closed. I would imagine that would mean that the Canton store gets a lot more traffic. One thing that people seem to grumble about is how little money OUAC offers for your used baby stuff. I have a very different take on this. When I sell back my son's used clothes or toys, I do it with the idea of knowing that I won't be making a ton of money back. The clothes are used, they're old, and someone is doing all the leg work to sell it for me. If I paid $7.00 for a shirt at Target (but let's be reasonable...I actually probably bought it on clearance for $4.50) and they need to sell it for $3.00, it doesn't really make sense that they would give me a lot of money for it. After all, they need to make a profit too. If someone really thinks their puked-on onsies deserve a lot of money, maybe they need to go to a consignment store, or sell it themselves on ebay/craigslist or have a garage sale? Like any other OUAC, it makes the most sense to try to sell when things are quiet. Weekends are a little crazy so be prepared to wait a little bit. I usually take the in-store credit instead of the cash because you get a higher percentage back. That gives me time to browse. If my son is with me, he can either play with all the toys that are being sold (the store isn't really strict about that and we try to put everything back when we're done) or they have this little makeshift dungeon that they made with some toy cars that could probably hold two kids, tops. The store itself is pretty well organized. Racks are divided by size, and then by color. One thing that is kind of nice is that (unlike other stores), they seem to have all the seasons. I now live in Massachusetts but went to Michigan for a wedding in August. As ridiculous as this sounds, we took a side trip to this location (after we drove over to the Novi one and found it closed) to look for winter sweaters and pants. In the Boston area, used clothing stores are generally higher end places and my son is in a phase where I find clumps of wood chips and mud in his pockets...usually AFTER I've already run the washing machine. We ended up buying a bunch of sweaters and pants, most of them averaging about $4.00. We found a few super cheap books too. We gleefully stuffed our bulging carry-on luggage with our treasures knowing that this was a much better deal than we could probably expect here. I would like to make this very clear. I may not be your typical reviewer when it comes to kids resell shops. I had a child, knowing full well that it was going to be an expensive investment. I keep this in mind when I try to sell them stuff (in some cases, clothes that I've bought from them and are practically getting the same price back for what I paid). I went to this store while in town visiting family - my sister has been a customer for some time. Before arriving, my sister purchased an activity mat and boppy pillow here for me to use during my visit. The cost for both was not more than about $30 and both were invaluable during my stay. I bought a ton of clothing when I shopped here - the prices were great, in my opinion, but the selection was awesome (in the 3-6 month and 6-9 month sizes anyway.) My sister says the larger sizes have less selection, but I didn't look. I returned a few items a few days after purchase because they didn't fit my daughter and had no issue. Once upon a child is a great store to ship at for your little one. For one, it smells good-like laundry detergent. Any who, they have a huge selection of items for boys and girls starting at NB up to...idk maybe preteen. They also carry baby gear such as bf pillows & conceiling covers, bathtubs, carriers, strollers, bassinets-you name it, they got it. I even found a pack of cloth diapers once. The prices are very good as well and they run promotions often. The employees are nice as well and very helpful. So what more could you ask for? read more

This is the worst place ever!! Don't waste your time taking your clothes there to sell. If you have more than one bag of clothing, they don't take the time to look through the items to see what is good and what is not. They hurry through because everything has to be seen within a certain time frame. If you bring back the same items, they will take them. It's ridiculous.
