I was excited to try beef ribs from a Memphis restaurant. Extremely uncommon in the area. Unfortunately, they're not plate or short ribs, but rather beef back ribs which have very little meat on them. They still charge $7 per bone for them, though. The ribs were also tough. We also got pulled pork and brisket. The pork was very dry and the brisket was cut deli sandwich thin. Real BBQ brisket should be sliced about the same width as a pencil and should be pull apart tender. This failed both of those tests. The sides were mediocre. We ordered the ribs and three meat platter in order to try a whole bunch. And let's be honest, take some leftovers home because I'm a fatty and wanted Memphis to go back with me! The sausage is cooked, sliced and then grilled a second time, and at some point coated in a dry rub. Never experienced sausage like this before. The double cooking left the sausage dry. Good flavor, just dry. Have you ever been to Arby's and gotten a beef and cheddar?! They serve their "brisket" the exact same way. It's sliced on a meat slicer, thinner than a slice of Kraft American Cheese. I know you can envision that. Now scrunch up your face. You are now making the same face I did when that plate touched our table. That mess was NOT brisket. For giggles I tasted it. NOPES!! All the nopes. Do not order brisket here. I'm telling you, it looked EXACTLY like beef from Arby's. I wish I had taken pictures for evidence! Ribs were ordered half wet, have dry rub. Oddly, an entire rack of ribs came out. One side dry rub, the other side with BBQ sauce on it. How in the...?!? That's not how this works. That's not how any of those works. Those should be cooked separately. The ribs were NOT fall apart, and a little dry. Pulled pork wasn't bad, but needed sauce. The mac and cheese was soupy. The smoked wings were pretty good. The wings and the sweet tea were the best our of everything we ordered. Honestly, based off our experience pretty danger shocked this joint has more than one location. Went for a Friday night dinner at 7:00 with a group of 10 others. Business was brisk but it didn't take long for them to pull some tables together to seat us. There seemed to be ample parking and the wait staff were very helpful and friendly. I tried the brisket and pulled pork combo with Texas toast (that the waitress raved about), mac and cheese, and baked beans. The thinly sliced brisket was flavorful but not as tender as I would have liked it to be. Mine was lean but my colleague's was very fatty. Perhaps you might want to specify whether you prefer lean or fatty, as I know some people do when they order BBQ. The pulled pork was very tasty and not at all oily, excellent! They have 3 sauces: regular, spicy, and extra hot (whatever their name for it is). The spicy and extra hot seemed similar in heat but the spicy tasted sweeter. The regular was like the spicy but sans the peppers. The mac and cheese was good but not outstanding. The toast was ... well ... toast. The baked beans were excellent but not vegetarian: generous pulled pork in it. Their manager comped banana pudding for us since were all from out of town. We ordered delivery (through a third party) because we were too tired to go out to eat after driving all day. I have never been to Memphis before so I didn't know what I wanted, I just knew I wanted BBQ, so I started looking at menus, reviews, photos, etc. and landed on One & Only because they were one of a couple of places that offered "wet ribs" (as opposed to dry rubbed) which is what I wanted (I know this is a sin to many, sorry!) and I could not be more happy with my decision to order from here. We got the ribs, pulled pork sandwich, sausage, mac and cheese, baked beans and the twice baked potato salad--I don't even usually like potato salad but everyone was raving about it in reviews I read so I decided to see what the rave was about: holy crap...it did not disappoint. I hate the hard chunks you sometimes get in regular potato salad, I assume because this one is twice baked is why it was so creamy & delicious (not mashed potato creamy, just heavenly creaminess around the soft potatoes with hints of bacon flavor) I can't believe I'm saying this but it was probably my favorite thing we ordered. Went on a Saturday at lunch time. 3 of us. Restaurant was half full. I got the "FRIED CHICKEN TENDER DINNER (5) $11.99, lightly breaded & fried crisp" Preface this to say that One and Only has been my favorite BBQ place in Memphis for years (Payne's aside). I've been to this location 5 times, and would think this was anomaly except for the experience that the food has gradually gone downhill with each visit. When you go to a BBQ place that describes many of its meat dishes as "fresh" "never frozen", and you pay $12 a plate for it, you kind of expect that food to be fresh-made. See the photos of the chicken tenders I got. They were described as "lightly breaded and fried crisp." They were not crisp by any stretch of the imagination. Every one was uniform. Same size. Same shape. Same thickness of breading. Same thickness of chicken. Every one had been pulled frozen from a bag and fried a few minutes before being put on the plate. If I had wanted from-the-bag chicken tenders, I would have gone to a fast food joint or just went to the store and bought a bag to cook at home. All that might have been excused if they were tasty. They were awful. The breading was bland and the chicken itself was just there. Not even their wonderful GG sauce could do anything for it. The portion was generous, but what good does that do when the food was inedible? Beans were good. Fries were good after adding seasoning. The Texas toast, which we only got 1 extra piece of despite ordering 2, had been made long before we ordered. It appeared to have been "toasted", but it was as soft as it was the minute it was taken out of the bag. The liquid butter was not applied before it was toasted, but right before it was brought to our table. It was literally puddled on top of the bread, making the "toast" even softer. They had many workers milling about while we were there. If the restaurant is going to charge $12 for a chicken tender dinner, it might task one of those workers with cutting fresh chicken into tenders. read more

I'm more mad at myself than One and Only. This is the 3rd or 4th time they've messed up my order. When they get it right the food is delicious. It's rolling dice each time - depends on how the staff feels that day. Today, the lady repeated my order back to me correctly. This restaurant is a well-oiled machine from start to finish which included the amazing greeting at the front door. I was visiting Memphis on a business trip and I knew I couldn't leave without trying Memphis barbecue so we stopped at One and Only BBQ. The waitress came over and quickly took our drink orders and had a great personality. There are a lot of options on the menu but I settled on the Barbecue Quesadillas and the Twice Baked Potato Salad which were voted by the Yelp community as one of the dishes in Memphis you must eat before you die lol. I love quesadillas and to me it's honestly hard to mess up but I haven't had barbecue quesadillas before and I thought they were really good. I didn't really need any salsa or sour cream just good old fashion barbecue sauce was just fine. The potato salad was rich and creamy which what seemed like dill included yet very heavy so you may want to share it. Everyone at my table loved their food and there were no complaints. We all definitely cleaned our plates. The highlight of this visit was the banana pudding which Mrs.BlueLashes told me was made daily by one person for all of their restaurant locations. The banana pudding reminded me of how my mom use to make banana pudding before she started using cool whip and pudding mix. This banana pudding was made on the stove and was delicious with vanilla wafers and a meringue on top. I'm going to be honest I didn't like the meringue however this banana pudding still knocks it out of the park on taste. This restaurant was the icing on the cake on my last day of Memphis. The great customer service and amazing food was just what I needed before jumping on a flight. If I'm ever back in Memphis I would definitely try this restaurant out again. read more

This place deserves 5 stars for flavor for sure! Service was good and the atmosphere was a bit noisy and lively. It was really busy... Like only a few tables available and there was a line of cars around the building. They had an attendant directing traffic so it wasn't too bad just surprising to see how busy they were. But then we got our food and understood why so many people were clamoring to get in. They have Seriously delicious food. We had 4 varieties of meat, all were great. The sausage was just as it's supposed to be-juicy and flavorful, cooked to perfection. The brisket was red and sliced super thin. Awesome! The sides were all amazing. Deviled eggs, the loaded twice baked potato salad was heavenly. Haven't had potato salad like that since New Hampshire years ago-I know that sounds odd. The ribs with barbecue sauce were great, but we wouldn't do the dry rub again. I so wanted it to be better My wife and I went with some friends to One and Only BBQ recently - because it is their favorite BBQ place. Well, I'm glad for them - it simply did not cut it for me. I will say that my wife truly enjoyed her Pulled Chicken; I did taste it, and it was quite good. I only wish my Pulled Pork dinner had been better. The meat was served dry, no problem; however, my serving didn't have enough smoke flavor for me. I was able to enjoy it better when I added sauce - it took the Habenaro sauce for me to get a good taste. Now, I did enjoy the BBQ baked beans, especially when I mixed in some of the pulled pork. I also ordered the Mac and Cheese, at my friend's recommendation. It was, okay - but not "the best I've ever had". I know many people enjoy this place, but it simply did not do it for me. I would not go to One and Only if I wanted BBQ, likely someplace else. If I do go back, though, I will try the Pulled Chicken. read more

The restaurant is nice and clean and the server was really nice and efficient. We ordered 1/2 rack of rib dinner with baked beans and fries, And the turkey dinner which was grilled turkey slices and two sides. I chose Mac and cheese and twice baked potato salad. We also ordered a side of deviled eggs. We had pink lemonade(which was super sweet) and sweet tea(delicious). Our food came out in like 5 minutes which made me a tiny bit nervous bc it means all of the food is just sitting back there done. The ribs seemed like they were boiled and then put on the grill. They were tender but had no real flavor other than the bbq sauce on them. The baked beans tasted like they came out of a can and they had little bits or pulled pork in them. The fries were good! The turkey was tender and I liked the flavor but they were a bit dry. I liked the Mac and cheese, it reminds me of KFC Mac and cheese which takes me back to child hood lol. I hated the twice baked potato salad which surprised me because everyone loves them from the reviews I read. They had way too much mayo in them. The deviled eggs weren't the best, they didn't have that flavor that you get when your auntie brings them to the bbq. I was disappointed. Our bill ended up being $38 which was okay I guess. This is my next visit after my last unhappy go around. The management responded very quickly to my last review wanting to know more about my food review and when it happened. To their credit they gave me a lot more insight into their cooking methods and desire to make customers happy. Credit to management for that effort and for the invite to come back and give them another try. So tonight is the night and I brought my son, who loves barbecue, along with me. Here we go. I've been very nicely greeted by Adam who stepped outside in the edge of the rain to hold the door open, warmly greeted us and showed us to our table. Everything smells great and it's very clean, warm and inviting. We were promptly greeted by Virginia who was very friendly and an absolutely fantastic server. She took our drink orders and was back right away with them and taking our order. Man the food was back really fast, like 3vminutes fast. We both had the ribs with one meat combo $26, both of us getting ribs (half dry/half wet) and brisket, but we got different sides. My ribs were very good both wet and dry with a nice smock and tender with some great moisture and taste. Unfortunately the brisket was a serious disappointment again. First of all it's not very warm and the meat us very well done, thin, off color and room temperature. I did try it with and without bbq sauce but the biggest let downs were the lack of smocky flavor and shockingly that one medium sized bite took me :75 seconds to chew. I looked at my plate and realized that could take me fifteen minutes just to eat the brisket only. I asked my son about his and he agreed with me. I explained all of this to Virginia and she offered to redo the brisket or to bring something in its place. I opted for the whole chicken wings as did my son. We received our nice and hot chicken wings, with ranch on the side, very quickly. Wow these are some big fat delicious chicken wings, seriously. They're really tasty and juicy and simply some of the best, like top 10, chicken wings I've had. I had the really excellent sweet potato fries and cole slaw and Matt had the twice baked potatoes and the simply mac and cheese. I throughly enjoyed my sides and so did my son. We were pretty full but we decided to split a banana pudding, why, because that have an excellent banana pudding that is also in my top ten. (we brought home the brisket for the kitties, and they loved it) Finally as we were leaving a nice gentleman at door thanked us for coming and told us to drive safely. I normally order nachos, but a week ago i attended an event where this location catered with pulled pork sandwiches, baked beans, slaw, rolls etc. I was so impressed from that event that today on my cheat day (I am currently expecting) I decided to stop by for lunch. We ordered a plain cheese burger, pulled bbq chicken, and a bbq sandwich with NO COLESLAW. They gave us a cheese burger with lettuce, tomato, pickle, and onions on a disgustingly soggy bun, the pulled bbq chicken had bone-shards all throughout it, the bbq sandwich had coleslaw all over it, AND THERE WAS A HAIR IN MY POTATO SALAD!!!! I wish I could make this up but unfortunately, I can't. The only thing that wasn't wrong was the 7 big sides of bbq sauce they gave us.
