Small spot. Thankfully we had part of our party there with a table. We ordered a Coney Island hotdog, NY hotdog, eggs and hash brown and toast, rooster omelet, turkey Rueben and small baby Greek salad and some coffees. The NY dog tasted better than the Coney dog. The coney didn't taste the way it was expected, but it had a lot of ground meat on it. The egg, hash brown and toast was as expected. The rooster omelet wasn't too bad. The turkey Rueben was okay, would have been better with kraut instead of creamy slaw. The Greek salad was so-so, nothing so special about it. The onion rings were good at least. The woman at the checkout gave me such a hard time for asking for a copy of the credit card receipt, she asked why the itemized isn't good enough. She told me if I want the credit card receipt, she's taking the itemized bill. I said I would still like a copy of both the itemized as well as the credit card receipt. She placed both back on the counter top with a bit too much drama. How lazy, rude, totally unprofessional and unpleasant was the checkout staff member. The table service and food was a 3. In Michigan, in addition to a reference to the particular type of hot dog preparation (mustand, meat sauce, onion), "Coney Island" often means, full service diner. Such was the case with Roosters, which we found by accident looking for a different place. There's a story that in Jackson, the difference in the meat sauce is because it is made from ground beef hearts, I didn't ask whether that was true at this location, but the sauce was very meaty/beefy tasting and I enjoyed it a lot. read more

To go order, big breakfast. Ordered all bacon instead of all 3 meats, french toast, strawberry jelly. Got home, no butter, no syrup, no jelly. Called. Lady owner/manager blamed me. Told me it was my fault, that they NEVER include those things in orders. Said I had to ask for them at time of pick up. She said she had 15 to go orders that morning and there's NO WAY for them to remember all the orders, sorry maybe next time I'll remember to ask for those things at pickup. Great job. A friend, invited me for breakfast, at this business that seems to be fairly busy, a small diner, with a small dining area, which seems filled with customers, the food is very old fashionly good, old-school menu, and all the waitress is very talkative and friendly. A great place to stop. read more

This is a small coney island with a cute interior. The vibe I got from my experience is that it is a very friendly place where everyone knows each other. There were a lot of regulars dining in when I stopped by. Really liked the people, service, decor, and layout. I ordered the country omelette which had hash browns inside of it. The hash browns were cooked well. I especially enjoyed the gravy. They smothered my omelette in it. I had absolutely no problem with this, however, since it was so tasty. The coffee was also delicious. I am a sucker for good diner coffee. I never had an empty cup which is always a plus. I had a number of waiters stop by to refill it. I will definitely be going back and I look forward to trying more on the menu. read more

This is a really solid coney island. I hope they stick around. They offer pita bread grilled cheese, which is one of my favorite diner foods, so that's great. Their ranch is not good, though. Ranch is important to me, so that alone is what lost them a star. The prices are great, and as you would expect, the menu is huge and varied. I will definitely be returning! read more

The biggest problem I have with this restaurant is they do not know how to cook eggs done. I usually like over medium but they whites are always snotty, so I changed to scrambled eggs. Not sure how you could still under cook scrambled eggs, but some how they manage to achieve that goal. read more

Rooster's occupies a building that, for the longest time in the late '90s and '00s was a revolving door of restaurants. They've managed to stay for a while, so kudos. It's really quaint and home-town-y. The price is cheap and the food it perfectly fine. It's exactly the stuff you go to a diner for: greasy (but tasty) burgers, coney dogs, breakfast foods. When this place first opened I thought it wouldn't do well with all the other coney places in Jackson. But it has survived. I had heard good things about it so one night while my daughter was at the movies I thought I'd give it a shot. I'm glad I did and I'm glad It survived. It is centrally located near the crossing mall and the movie theatres and is off West avenue and not far from I 94. There are about 30 booths and tables and it is well lit, cozy, and very clean. It was very busy but I waited less than five minutes to get a table. The server was very friendly and brought my soda and my menu right away even though she was hurried. They have a full menu including dinners and breakfast. I ordered a hamburger, fries, two coneys. It came out very fast and hot. I ate the burger first and it was cooked perfectly and was delicious. One of the best I've ate in a long time. The coneys aren't like the the typical Jackson coneys so I didn't think if like them. But the sauce surprised me. Very delicious and tasty. And they use Koegel hot dogs. The fries were good, nothing special, typical fries. But the rest was great. I got all this food including drink for $10. And it filled me up! We have gone for dinner twice now and were very impressed. The chicken parm was 5 stars. Absolutely the best chicken parm we have had at a restaurant. It was made fresh with a chicken breast (definitely not frozen or deep fried). A thick layer of baked cheese was on top with delicious meat sauce over the whole thing. Amazingly good chicken parm, especially since it isn't an Italian restaurant. We also got the fish and chips which were also good and came with lots of fish though which was great. I would give the fish 4 stars. The meals came with soup too. The potato soup was homemade and quite good (4 stars). The chicken noodle soup was okay (2 stars). Next time we went we got the Roosters Breakfast or something like that which was piles of delicious breakfast food. Also 5 stars. The hot beef sandwich was also very good (4 stars). Prices were very reasonable and the portions were huge. Definitely a place we will continue to go to. read more
