This is an experience of a life time and a must for anyone who loves the ocean or adventure. If this is not on your bucket list, go grab a pen and write down this companies name! No other crew offers anything as close to this. Take the boat out with the One Ocean Team to go swim with the sharks(no cage)-yes no cage, but pretty safe as long as you follow instructions. On the way out get briefed on Shark conservation and the do's and don't dos. These amazing creatures have been demonized and slaughtered to almost extinction and few minutes in the water will change your perspective if your wary of sharks. If you love Sharks your pretty much guaranteed to see dozens. Who knows what kind of shark will come cruising by. It's generally Galapagos and Sand Bar, but all other species have shown up. The crew is super professional and safe. I've got nothing but good things to say. The experience was so great that I did it two days in a row. I still can't believe my daughter and I had the opportunity to visit these inspiring beings in their home, and I am grateful that a friend who lives right in Haleiwa recommended One Ocean for open-ocean diving with sharks. After some hesitation at the initial plunge, we felt safe the entire time, despite our solid beginner free-diving skills, because of the experienced and passionate divers and crew by our side. Since we had good weather (yes, in December) and went early enough for calmer waters, we spent what felt like an hour in the water among too much varied sea life to recount, including at least two kinds of sharks, and at least one which the crew welcomed by name. It was wonderful both to just float and look at the sharks in their world below, and to dive a bit closer towards them. Mariana was our diving guide, and even though we were inexperienced, we never felt like it was anything less than a pleasure for her to help us dive. Paul did great work capturing photos and video, for which I'm grateful because it reminds me that yes, we actually did get to experience this. Ocean and company have built an excellent, passionate, and patient crew that also never made me feel silly for my awkward gushing over the whole experience and my passion for my daughter's own love for sharks. Getting super upset and a definitely waste of our time and money. Already arrived at the waiting point and waiting for over 20 mins but not seeing anyone. We didn't get an advanced notice but just got a call saying the engine was broken and they don't have any backup plan. I totally understand this is a "non-profit" business and this broken engine is completely out of control. But there are lots of things to make up but they choose to do nothing. 1. give the boat some more inspections before using it and if there's any concern they should provide a earlier notice to the customers but not let the customer come and waiting there for half an hour. 2. Try to call some other customers to see if they could be able switch to another time to accommodate us ASAP but not brought this idea up after we already getting super mad(because we get up at 6 and take one hour drive to get here from Waikiki and already wait for around an hour), then they started thinking about asking some other customers after one hour. 3. As a mature business, it's really not smart enough to not give any credit or extra refund because of their fault(we don't get refund if we are the one late right?) Customer should at least getting even just a little credit for next trip or a cover for their trip( spend $70 to get to the place from Waikiki). but they don't provide any of the options just letting us go. 4. They are too inefficient. We will be all fine if we get the call just a little bit earlier so we could accommodate all the plan for the date but they just letting us wait there. OR we will be fine to get a definite NO when we are asking if they could reschedule us to a earlier time so we could just leave. But they just letting us wait for a callback and we wait there for another 30 mins and then got an No, they even want us to wait again for them to see if there's any other potential solution. Overall this is a immature business using "non profit" and "girls help girls" to get profit. Like some other customers said they may care about Shark but they don't care about people. We choose this company because we support woman business even it's more pricy but we are really disappointed. read more

I will do it all over again!! Probably once a year if I can! Super bummed that I had to reschedule because of the winter winds and swells but hey, I was going to go another day no matter what. Another one of my birthday month activities, I had no fear whatsoever. My best friend and husband were down for my crazy idea and so we went for it! The sharks were cooperative, casual, and straight up magnificent creatures. As a local, I was told by my family that they were our Aumakua, so it excites me even more to actually swim freely next to them. They tend to be shy as the day goes by, so I highly recommend coming early early in the morning! Parking wasn't so bad, there were some open marked stalls in front of the harbor. Or you could check in and wait until another tour comes back for those people to leave or park further down by the public beach side. After checking in at the kiosk and signing my life away lol, we hopped in the boat and were on our way out. There were 3 crew members on board. The captain drove and stayed on the boat and watched the currents while the other 2 ladies explained the safety features and why sharks aren't what they seem to be portrayed as in movies. The 2 ladies got in the water first and scoped before giving us the go to slide not jump on in. I had bought a go pro instead of the package because I knew I would use it later, but being so obsessed with looking at the sharks I rarely got some clips of myself. So I ended up purchasing the picture package a couple days later. The crew members will also have go pros and are recording while researching the sharks activity in the water with us. Overall I felt comfortable and am so grateful to live on island that I can book my next adventure anytime! I'm also interested in any volunteer opportunities :) read more

I just got back from the dive trip. We saw 5 different species including a Hammerhead and Tiger sharks. It was an amazing experience plus learned so much about sharks. Gina and Faith are fantastic. Incredibly knowledgeable and very funny. This is definitely a lifetime highlight. You can have them take you GoPro footage for a small extra cost. This is my suggestion so you can concentrate on diving with the sharks. There is also an option to hire a professional still or video photographer. Are you afraid of sharks? Jaws still have you afraid of swimming in the ocean? Well come control your fear by learning about sharks and their true nature of being a predator.... not a monster. Yes, a sharks' appearance can look intimidating, but they don't just see a human and think "FOOD!" You'll learn that not only do they not like human, but many more facts instead of myths like how you can cut your finger and a shark doesn't small our blood and think "attack!" Our safeties were Tracy Ann and Forrest who were not only very knowledgeable, but very friendly. The 20 minute ride out to the spot seemed like 5 minutes while they talked about the true behavior of sharks and set your mind at ease about getting in the water. HOWEVER...... then you look in the water and there's 5, no wait...7.... well 8 sharks just swimming around the boat. Um....ok.... why?? You want to find out? Book a tour!! We get in the water and swimming under us is about 15 sharks. Maybe even more because at that point my head was on a swivel. They will tell you to never focus just on one shark, which is true. You never know when a sneaky sandbar shark will come on over to investigate. But don't worry, the safeties will protect you and even teach techniques you can use next time you're out snorkeling and there's a shark in your sight. 100% safety record and 100% epic!! Super cool experience but probably wouldn't do it again. 100% skip this and join a regular dive tour if you're at all sensitive to motion sickness. My fiancé signed us up for One Ocean's shark diving experience during our trip to Oahu last week. We saw videos of others' experiences with One Ocean and were absolutely thrilled because we've been scuba diving for 7 years and have only ever seen tiny sharks. If your goal is to see sharks up close, One Ocean will definitely deliver. We saw multiple ENORMOUS Tiger Sharks during our dive and they would swim right at us while we were in the water. It was unlike anything we've ever seen. I've gained a whole new appreciation for these often misunderstood creatures of wonder. With that said, here's why this was our first and last One Ocean dive: 1) This had to be THE MOST uncomfortable dive trip we've ever gone on. Like I mentioned earlier, my fiancé and I are experienced scuba divers so we were well-prepared. I've heard about the notorious North Shore waves so we both took Dramamine the night before and the morning of our scheduled dive. However, Dramamine was no match for what we were about to encounter. The boat ride was so insanely rough that people were literally bouncing off of their seats and getting drenched. Usually, once you're in the water, the seasickness would subside. However, the waves were so aggressive that our bodies were getting slammed onto the side of the boat repeatedly while we held onto the rope for dear life. This made me feel so sick that I had to get back on the boat within just a few minutes. I was mad at myself because I really wanted to stay in the water with the sharks but I just felt too ill. I've never been on a dive trip where half of the people on the boat are throwing up. 2) The safety diver who led our dive (I believe his name is Drew) made me feel very uncomfortable. I wasn't feeling well that morning so I didn't laugh at his jokes and he took it personally. A weak smile was all that I could muster but it wasn't good enough for him. He kept singling me out throughout the boat ride and "threatened" to leave me behind or cut my dive short if I didn't start laughing at his jokes. I am always respectful and polite to everyone I meet but it doesn't mean that I have to laugh at every single lousy joke thrown my way early in the morning. I thought this was very petty and unprofessional; I really did not appreciate it. Thank you One Ocean for your work in protecting our endangered sharks and educating us on conservation. read more

To future guests - Customer service/photo packages - 1 star out of 5 Ocean/shark/safety knowledge - 5 out of 5 Overall suggestion - don't bother with their go pro package. If you bothered to scroll through their 200+ reviews which I just did. You will see that half of their negative reviews (1/2 stars) were specifically about the photo packages. If they offer it as an option to purchase AFTER the dive, then really it's on the business to ensure there ARE footages worth selling after the experience. It's not on me to ask to be filmed. Even when I was deciding to buy it or not, you REASSURED me that your photographer usually does a good job which was why I bought into it...your word bc you won't let me see it. What I received was totally different. To claim that I bought the pictures DAYS AFTER the dive is simply not true. I came on Sunday and texted you and paid for the pics on Monday Bc Juan me you weren't at the office and is only back Monday . See yet another fine example of conveniently omitting the facts and blaming the guest? Then to offer a refund only after I posted this review and to ask me remove this "unwarranted" review is even more questionable. Again, it's your service and not about the $. You asked for my suggestion before 1) CLEARLY note if you want to filmed, you must make decision now BEFORE we start the dive. If you don't then there won't be any footages of you. ‍2) post/show samples of the diff packages for informed decision making. 1) if you want to dive down closer to the sharks - be aggressive and ask to dive down and not wait to be signaled by the guide as you were instructed to do. 2) if you want to have pics/go pro footages of yourself - despite not being told on the boat, be sure to ask to be filmed in case you want to purchase later without ever seeing what was recorded. 3) if you want to dive down more than once - be sure to time manage yourself amongst 5 other guests because as a first timer, you will recognize what's a good diving condition and what's not. 4) if you want to go dive down deeper - be sure to bring your own weights if you aren't a strong swimmer bc your swimming ability can limit your experience. 5) to ensure you have a great experience and know when to do what - be sure to go with them more than once because then you will know to bring weights and go pro and ask to dive and to be filmed. 6) if you want to make any suggestions - make sure to read through their website and at least the negative Yelp reviews ahead of time because the onus is on you to make sure you know what you are getting yourself into. To the owner's response - I was only asked to dive down once after the initial practice of swimming towards ocean and trying to dive. No I was not asked to dive down more than once. We were asked to stick closer together towards the middle for safety reason. So no there was no chance for us to even go dive down more than once in the span of 20/30 mins water time split btw 6 people. A customer should not be expected to ask to be filmed if that was your advertised package option. Nor should they be expected to be able to tell when they can ask to go dive more than once amongst 5 others. I was asked to come up to fix my mask and never got the chance to go down again due to safety reasons and timing again. Moana's mom came prepared w weights Bc they came diving with you before. Something you might consider providing rather than blaming the guest's swimming abilities. Yes though your IG pics never claimed those were go pro pics it also never clarified that those were professional ones. So again conveniently excluding facts that could have allowed for more informed decision making. ------ The experience and conservation education were great. Ocean and Juan were great. Note their website and FAQ conveniently does not tell you what the difference between the "go pro" and "professional" packaging is. You need to go to book the experience yourself in order to read the description of the "professional" package that will cost $250. The "go pro" package ranges from $50 (for 1-2 person) or $150 (for 5-6 people). When you ask how they differentiate they don't know. You can pay $50 and get all the footages anyway. I don't know what they would have sent me if I asked for package for 5-6 people. Again, deceptive advertisement. If you question them about it, they will tell you that they did not advertise that all their beautiful pictures on their IG were from the "go pro" package but it also didn't say it was from their "professional" package. Again conveniently excluding facts for informed decision making. I got 21 clips/footages for my $50 but only one 3 min video of our experience that clearly showed the sharks swimming below us and the few of us hanging onto the side of the boat bobbing back and forth in the rough waves. I booked this excursion for myself and my boyfriend and we had a great time. I am prone to seasickness and took precautions beforehand. The boat ride out and back was about 15 mins each way. They had a presentation there and back that helped me focus and not feel queasy. The pictures on their page are of their divers, not customers. The entire time you are in the water your are holding onto a blue rope attached to the side of the boat. The rope is consistently bobbing with the water, and so are you. You will need to swim over people to get to a free spot on the rope, which causes pushing and bumping because everyone is disoriented. I understand that there is not much you can do about this, but it's good to be aware of it. This experience is definitely not for the weak swimmer. I consider myself and my bf to be very athletic and we struggled. The currents were very strong the morning we went out even though I chose the first option and I struggled to keep steady while holding onto the rope and looking down. You're out in the water for a little over an hour and I was offered to dive 3 times. I felt safe with the divers watching everyone at all times with divers both out and in the water. They offer flippers, masks/snorkels, and rash guards. Their flippers and masks/snorkels were surprisingly great and didn't have to be adjusted. In my opinion, this is a one and done experience. I'm glad I did it but would not do it again just because of the rough water conditions and inevitable seasickness. Shout out to Bryce, who I believe is the captain, and the rest of the crew! What a spectacular experience! It took a little while waking up to the fresh salt air and Ocean spray and getting used to the ebb and flow of the crashing waves and the rocking boat! The moment the tides came to a steady slow position, I got comfortable enough to get in the water. Normally, it's auspicious to onlookers to see tourists and other boaters so eager and excited to go swimming, especially after trying to absorb all the important information about sharks, dolphins and whales on your first boat out. You adjust quickly if you take a moment to look out and around at all the beauty that Hawaii has to offer, especially the promising tail-end of a rainbow. Skyler and Hailey were both incredibly communicative, friendly, and helpful over the phone in the days and weeks leading up to the dive. When we got on the boat, all the staff members were so friendly and professional. Having free dove with sharks before, I wasn't sure what to expect with this trip. This is a great way to experience sharks for first timers. The staff was all really friendly. When I booked this trip I wasn't sure that it was going to be a lot of time in the water, but You do get plenty of time. Everyone gets in and holds on to safety handles and then it's up to you if you want to go further from there. The sharks do come close, but not too close. You should have some basic understanding of snorkeling as this would not be the best way to first try it out. It's hit or miss on the types of sharks you'll see depending on the year. read more

One of the highlights of our trip. We drove up from Waikiki (about a 50-minute drive). The staff was prompt, friendly, and enthusiastic. There were 2 shark guides and 1 boat captain (she was also super nice). One Ocean Diving provides everything you will need, goggles, fins, and even rash guards. They go-pro the experience for you to purchase after (which I highly recommend). Mariah was our guide and she was so amazing. You hang onto a rope on the side of the boat, then she takes 1 person at a time to dive down and see the sharks. There were 6 people on our side of the boat. At first, you are a little nervous but she had everything under control, and the sharks really are just minding their own business. We saw at least 11 Galapagos sharks on our dive and got amazing pictures from her go-pro. My husband even made it his screen saver on his phone. It was absolutely an amazing time with the well seasoned crew. This is an absolute must do when in Hawaii. At first, my wife was like, "Oh hell no, I'm not getting in the water." I had a great dive this week! I scheduled a 9:00 AM dive but then it was suggested to change it to 7:00 AM because of the water/wind conditions. There was an opening and I took it! The earlier the better, you don't want to have to reschedule especially if you're on vacation. The emails received once I made the booking was super helpful and informative. I parked and arrived maybe 10-15 minutes before the booking time, someone came over to check us in and they also gave us waivers to fill out before we got on the boat. Make sure you take some sea sickness pills before your dive! I don't usually get sea sick but I took one just in case and it was needed. It's a lot different than just riding on a catamaran for example. Everything started on time and there was plenty of dry storage on board to store your belongings. The crew was so informative and happy, they genuinely seemed like they love what they do and sharing fun, important information. Snorkels, rash guards and flippers are available if you need it at no extra cost! It wasn't a super long ride to get to the dive spot and once we were there they made it so easy and made you feel comfortable! You have the option to free dive in the water if you feel up to it, but if not you can admire the sharks from the side of the boat in the water. I got the photo package that also included the GoPro footage too. It was my first dive so I thought why not? It was worth it! It's pricey but definitely worth it. I had a male photographer that was great and gave tips on what to do and what not to do for some good shots. The shots were sent back really fast too. My dive was on Monday and I got my pictures today, on Friday. One of the girls I met said she did this before and spoke with the photographer and I about how she didn't get good pics or a lot- he was definitely disappointed that she had a not so great experience and made sure to get great shots! He did so well. (Sorry I can't remember everyone's name) I'm already planning my next dive and I am so thankful for the kind crew. Really made my experience awesome. read more

Best diving with sharks i would recommend to everyone its really safe don't be afraid.

Amazing. I almost didn't do this out of fear. I So glad I did. I was so nervous on the boat then when we got to the site I was at total peace. The safety divers and captain were amazing and educational. So glad we did this. Can't thank you all enough. Mahalo nui. read more

This tour was one of the highlights of our trip! The crew was very friendly and knowledgeable! I love that they focus on shark conservation and teaching people not to fear sharks. Our safety diver was Juju. She was awesome and very good at what she does. We saw a lot of sharks (Galapagos, sandbar, blacktip, and a gorgeous tiger). We were so lucky to see a tiger shark! She was such an amazing animal and I could've spent all day watching her. Highly recommend! read more

5 stars is not nearly enough. I did the 7am shark snorkel with safety diver Matt and photographer Paul. They made me feel comfortable and safe. They were patient and fun. Swimming with sharks was surreal. The sharks were beautiful and intelligent. Not aggressive at all. I felt privileged to be in their world. I highly recommend this experience and definitely get the photo package. read more
