Good eats, good booze, good crowd, good music... what more can you ask for? If you're looking for a taste of Newport nightlife, you can experience some of it at One Pelham East. This bar & restaurant has three floors filled with plenty of entertainment until 1AM. We started off our first night in Newport by having an early dinner here on a Friday. We sat ourselves at the bar on the first floor. The bartenders were friendly and attentive - no complaints on service. To start off, I ordered my usual drink... a classic margarita. It was strong and tarty with a good kick. Their menu offers your typical American pub food like burgers, sandwiches, wings, tacos, wraps, etc. They had a BOGO deal for their spicy fried chicken sandwich (~$14), so we couldn't resist saying no to that lol. The meal included a spicy fried chicken, lettuce, pickles, and spicy aioli sauce on a brioche bun with a side of fries. The portion size was generous and just enough to fill my belly, but not enough to put me into a food coma. The chicken was tender and juicy and I loved how fluffy and buttery the brioche bun was. There was a little too much batter on the chicken than I would have liked, but it was still a delicious sandwich nonetheless. The fries were super crispy and crunchy, 10/10. I'm curious to know what their other sandwiches taste like! Around 8pm, it turns into more of a bar/club atmosphere. It gets progressively packed and loud. There are bouncers at the door to check for IDs and to handle cover fees (if needed). There's live music every weekend from 8-11pm, as well as a DJ from 11pm - closing. The top floor of the restaurant hosts their famous Dueling Piano show where two entertainers perform and engage in playful competition. You request songs for them to play on a grand piano, so it's a fun and interactive experience. Reservations are required in advance. Check their website for the full schedule of their live music performances and show times. Since we got there early, we were able to keep our seats at the bar to watch the live music performance. I was with a big group and we were looking for a place to grab dinner in Newport. Most places seemed pretty busy, so we were happy to grab a table here! While we waited for our meals to come, a bunch of us had fun playing darts. After dinner, it turned into more of a bar vibe, but all things considered, the food was still solid. I was happy to see that they had some specials (I got the Fried Chicken Sandwich, which hit the spot). We went here for an after party for a wedding. It was pretty crowded and the booth that was reserved only for about 6 people in it. There was a large area upstairs where everyone stood and they had screens showing the dual pianos if you couldn't see them from where you were standing. I had take out order. Ordered Lobster rolls, South Burger and Clam Chowder. The lobster roll was great! Plenty of lobster, you can taste the flavor, crunch of celery and not so much mayonnaise. I dont usually eat fries but their fries are nice. Crispy and tasty. It was kinda empty when we waited for out food but they had a live music anyway. Which was nice. So we sat on the bar stool while waiting, it took little long. We sat there for a bit and it was fine. Then out of nowhere, this man came to us, saying "the manager said you can't sit here, you could move to other part of the establishment." Which next to the pool table or something. we had an absolutely HORRIBLE experience at Pelham that I wouldn't wish on anyone. The bouncers there are beyond aggressive, provoking patrons in a way that created a hostile atmosphere. The behavior of these bouncers is not only unprofessional but also dangerous. They are a liability to the business and create an environment that's not only unsafe but completely disrespectful to customers. Pelham needs to reevaluate who they hire as security because these bouncers are doing nothing but damaging the reputation of the place and putting everyone at risk. if you are out of town, be ready for provication because they are looking to fight thier guest. Great live music and fun environment. Food is bar food and drinks are decent. They have darts and shuffle board which is fun. If you go late afternoon it's not super crowded...at night it's super crowded but still fun. Waiters were very friendly. We arrived for a business training here in Newport, RI and wanted to go out for the evening. Walking down the street this place caught our attention with their open windows to the street and live music coming from within. We were greeted by the friendly guy checking ID at the door and they were polite and efficient. The drinks were very good and the service was great. Staff was definitely five stars. The place was clean and very open and a very busy night didn't feel crowded. The dart boards were a great surprise! A lot of song requests came with $20+ tips. So.... You really have to want that song. 3 flights of stairs to enter. I'm sure there is an elevator, but I didn't see it. Excellent! We recently had a Next day party for 80 guests to celebrate the wedding of our daughter the previous day. We communicated with Abby for months coming up to it and she was excellent , very responsive and helpful . Together with the chef she helped me pick out food for 80 guests. The food was delicious ( everyone loved the pork sliders in particular) . The space was perfect , right next to the live music etc . Zach and his bar staff were great ! Awful service. The front door staff was very rude and they made us wait in the line for absolutely no reason. We got in and couldn't get served for a while. If I could give ZERO STARS I WOULD, DO NOT GO TO THIS ESTABLISHMENT! ROWDY GUESTS RUINED MY NEWLY BOUGHT $300 DRESS- so this place basically cost me $500+ for a BEYOND AWFUL EXPERIENCE! Came here last night after dinner at the 41 North Grille & it appeared to be the only spot in town that had live music. There was a line to get in AND a $10 cover. We ended up paying the cover charge and getting a few rounds of drinks. Things were "seemingly" going great until what appeared to be a group of young women (MORE THEN LIKELY- they were underage - because who behaves like this!?!?) who threw drinks from the second floor balcony all over my boyfriend and I who were standing almost on the dance floor; we were seated at the large table next to the dance floor. I'm not talking a few drips of a drink- I was literally drenched in liquid!!! Fashion and clothing is MY thing and I had on a moderately expensive Lilly Pulitzer dress that I had JUST PURCHASED THAT DAY down the street at Anchored in Pink for $268! Initially I was upset but ONE of them did offer a genuine apology- I was moving on until it happened again a few minutes later. This time there was no apology...!!!! First time I will write off as an accident- second time is 100% on purpose!!! They were young and drinking but it's not an excuse to behave like TRASH. I don't want to say too much because we all had fun at that age- but I never went out of my way to throw drinks and ice off a balcony & then proceed to start a screaming match with a couple who's doing nothing but minding their own business! Weird AF. At this point my boyfriend was LIVID as he took the majority of the second spill (I had taken the brunt of the first spill and my dress was WHITE & pale pink). The good part was Security and Staff witnessed the ENTIRE thing. The bad part was - not only did these rowdy "locals" get to stay in the bar- but all we got was our seats moved & a bare minimum of an apology from a staff member. I think the woman- who was extremely nice- may have been a manager- she comped us two drinks as well- which was the LEAST they could have done. Since they ruined my dress they should have comped our entire bill considering we spent almost $200! Soooo should have happened- did NOT AT ALL!!! These young women should have immediately been asked to leave for the remainder of the night! 1. They were smashed & COMPLETELY OUT OF CONTROL. 2. They were causing quite a commotion/scene. 3. I can also bet the two of us spent more money in our short time there then that entire group of girls combined! 4. Idk if they started drinking here or if they ended drinking here but as a bartender myself- they should have been cut off HOURS AGO. They were slurring & VERY VERY SLOPPY! Not professional or even legal in terms of bartending. The security guard was 100% on board with asking these "girls" to leave until the manager woman insisted it was an accident. There's no doubt in my mind the first time was, but then a second time? NO WAY. They made it clear how intoxicated they were by screaming obscenities at us REPEATEDLY. CLASSY. Why you would want these guests in your establishment is BEYOND ME! I'm sorry but I did have on an expensive white dress and the bar/restaurant should have offered to pay for a replacement dress or at the least- my dry cleaning bill Or at the VERY LEAST give our money back for the cover charge or COMP US OUR BILL!!!! NONE OF IT happened!!! If you think about it- we actually paid $500+ to get drinks thrown at us from a second floor balcony and get sworn at by a group of underage girls... At almost 34 years old I don't have the patience for "bar fights" and I'd also like to steer clear of assaults. Now I have a nearly $300 Lilly Pulitzer dress (that was brand new) with permanent stains & I can't ever wear it again! I can't believe that's how they treat guests, but after reading just a few of the reviews for this place- I can definitely see there is a clear lack of management and issues with MANY STAFF MEMBERS!!! Always looking for a new place to try. "New is always better". Well not in this case. Not very crowded, live music, and great seats by the window to people watch. Isabel, was our waitress and it started off as if it was going to be a good meal. Beverage of choice, and basket of tots to start. Quick service on both. When the beverages arrived, a order was placed for Fish Tacos. Isabel asked if we wanted grilled or fried, and we chose grilled. A few minutes later, the basket of tots arrived and we were also informed that all the tacos are fried, they do not have grilled. Ok, no big deal, but you should know what your kitchen is cooking. That was the last we saw of Isabel. Our server was MIA after that. Kitchen staff came out and presented us with Fried SHRIMP tacos...wait we ordered Fish tacos. Kitchen staff kept looking at the order and then the food, then the order and then the food. Said they would be right back. Came back and told us the shrimp tacos were complimentary and they they were cooking the fish tacos for us fresh. Even though I didn't want them, I had one...and it was good. A spicy, but still very good. Fish tacos came out and although they were heavily battered, they too were very good. Thank you to Jamie who took over for the MIA Isabel and kept coming back to check on us. So in general, the basket of tots were good and didn't taste like they were frozen, and pretty much fell apart as you ate them. Very tender. The aioli dressing, made me sick. So if you get the tots, skip the aioli. Both the shrimp and fish tacos were good. Very heavily battered but you could still taste the fish. There was not a large quantity of fish, but it was there and in a four bite taco, you had three bites of fish. Jamie again brings over the bill, and surprise...charged me for the shrimp tacos. Maybe Fish taco sounds like Shrimp taco. I mean there was someone singing. They didn't charge us for the basket of tots! So I am not sure what was going on with the original server. Now I have to tell you about the bathroom. If anyone remembers the old Fenway park and pissing in a trough, this is just one step up with no borders and if you cannot produce in front of anyone, then you might want to go into the toilet instead. To wash your hands when you are done, you have to walk pass everyone pissing to the back of the tight and small bathroom, and if you are drunk you are definitely going to be bumping into people that are handling their junk. Overall, Great location, the one man band was off key, but the window seats were great for people watching. Wooden stools were painful to sit on and wobbled. 2 stars Food - The food was good except the aioli. Even heavily battered it was tasty and you could taste the fish. The fries tasted like fries and the tots like tots - 3 stars Service - Isabel gets no stars. So disappointed. Manager looked like he needed to get laid. Very miserable and never came over to apologize for the kitchen/server mistake. Jamie saved the day for those two bozos. - 2 stars Value - for Newport, $10 for a drink isn't back and the SHRIMP tacos were rather reasonable, even though we ordered the fish tacos that were two dollars less. - 3 stars 2.5 stars? but we are going to round down. In addition, the live music was a plus for sure. We were there long enough to hear two bands and both were what you want for a bar crowd to sing along! We went to the Dueling Pianos show for New Year's Eve. We had fun, but if you are "standing room only" you'll either be in the room where the entertainment is happening standing behind all of the tables or in the adjoining room with the bar watching everything from a poor quality projection screen (which was black and white the first half of the show). The pianist were talented and funny. They take paid request for songs via cash or Venmo. I loved the Venmo option because I was able to request a song for my wife via the bar room. There was a free coat check. I'd go again, but I'd make sure to get a table rather than the standing room only. The bartenders were awesome! read more
