Heard the place has character so went in for a nightcap. Pretty empty for 9:45. Short time into our visit and heard a commotion - the door man was extremely rude to one group of people, telling them to leave at one point. Drama! But we did notice quite a few people who definitely didn't look 21 - one even looked as young as 15 -being served. Just not a real comfortable feeling. Not to mention, the bartender - who looked like he hadn't showered in a year - went to the group and started yelling at them. We had our drinks and left. Underage drinkers and rude staff - this place is a pretty bad representation of Newport. Don't bother going to this place - there are so many more clean, classy options. read more

Really disappointed by how one of the male bartenders handled a situation. Another customer had emptied a container of straws directly in front of my friend, so she simply picked them up to move them out of the way. Instead of asking what happened or handling it professionally, the bartender immediately became angry and threw the straws toward her. It was completely unnecessary and made everyone in our group uncomfortable. The man who DID throw the straws apologized that my friends and I got blamed for dumping the straws afterwards. I tried telling the bartender this and he said "I can't hear you" rudely and sarcastically and walked away. There's no excuse for treating customers that way. Especially targeting a group of young women when it was a group of men who caused the issue. I hope management addresses this because it really took away from what should have been a fun experience. read more

Smugglers listed as a sports bar might be slightly off. They have a big tvs and smaller TVs around but it's not really set up to watch a game. This is a very local place with a younger crowd at night. The staff work hard and are always very nice! Its gets crowed and the bar gets deep. The staff don't put up obnoxious behavior. It's has a beach bar vibe. It's chill and has an incredible view of the harbor. They have a few Adirondack chairs or sit along the rail to enjoy the view. The food is adequate. It's not terrible but not great. If you are looking for a casual bar with a view that is not crazy touristy this might be your spot. read more

This is hard to say but this was the worst service we have ever experienced in my life and I am in my 60's. My wife and I were with another friend who lives in Newport, sat at a table in the bar area hoping to watch football. We sat at the table and watched the waitress walk by our table 9-12 times without ever asking if we wanted to order anything. It was not very busy with only about 3 other tables with customers. She would just lean on the bar and stare towards the bartender. The bartender was very busy and was not talking to her. After about a half hour, my friend went to the bar and ordered drinks right in front of the waitress. You think that would have been a clue. But no, she didn't move. After WE brought our drinks back to our table she continued to walk by and never spoke to us. After about another 10 minutes I had to stop her and ask her if we could get some menus. She brought the menus and walked away and went back to the bar. I stared at her thinking she might come back and ask if we needed any food. She did not budge and stood at the bar. After about 40 minutes we decided to leave. It was a very weird experience. I could understand if it was busy, but it was not. She was fairly young so maybe she was never trained to walk around and ask if customers needed anything. This is the first time I have left a negative review but some training might be in order. It does have a beautiful view of the harbor with a very nice outdoor patio. We never found out if the food was any good. read more

Went here to watch NFL game - bartenders referred to patrons as "scumbags" and I spent an entire quarter of the game with an empty drink.

To be fully honest I wish I could leave a negative star review. This restaurant was traumatizing to say the least. Beautiful location hideous service. Literally harassed us, we were treated like trash from the start, someone needs to teach these people how to be a server because I was astonished by how they acted. Also if you're gonna treat customers this way at least put a mirror in the bathroom like my god. I love coming here, but this is the only place I've ever been to that refuses to give you free water. Apparently tap water doesn't exist here, only premium water that you need to pay for - AKA Dasani... One day they will catch my cheap ass sucking on the faucet in an effort to save my life, and will probably try to charge me for that too. Isn't it illegal to not offer patrons free water cups? Someone fact check that. Regardless, while they don't offer free water, according to my cousin, they do offer free roofies. She got herself and her friends drinks from the bar and the way those drinks had them feeling, no shot of tequila could ever do that to a human being. It happened years ago but I often wonder about it. Was it the bartender? Perhaps a commoner sitting at the bar who can only pull bitches when their legs don't work? Or maybe someone who just purely wanted her to shut up. One night, a guy at the door had one of those handheld tally markers to keep track of the amount of people who come in. He was pacing around confused how he had counted double the amount of people who came in. I asked him if he was seeing double, if he was drunk. He got all defensive and asked if I was the feds? Um no, just wondering if you're under the influence or just purely stupid. He told me the truth, but I'm not a snitch. I deducted a star for the women's bathroom lacking a mirror. Maybe the girls who come here would be prettier if they could get a good look at themselves after they threw up their entire guts in the pot. I considered creating a go fund me for the smugglers women's bathroom in an effort to get them a mirror, but I figured they should be able to afford it with all their premium water sales. Lmk what you guys think. There is evidence of a mirror being there and I would really like to talk to the bitch who lost the mirror privileges. Great spot for drinks in Newport, if you want to be surrounded by a college crowd. Beers and truly's are the predominant drinks of choice. Location is nice by the water in the summer. They have darts, ping pong tables and a few tv screens around. When asked about cocktails, the bartender said "he wasn't in a very creative mood" though they were quite busy on the weekend. Overall decent spot for beers if you're bar hopping and looking to hang with a younger crowd. read more

Went on a Thursday night around 7 and the place was empty. Maybe 8 people total in the place. I have a feeling it's a late night young crowd not so much an eating crowd. One of those places where every summer it seems to change ownership. With every change nothing seems to get renovated or improved. It has a very divvy feel but not in a good way, very dark inside. Ordered chicken tenders and fries. Tenders were very overcooked and dry. I didn't see anyone else eating and it took almost 30 minutes for the chicken tenders. All this really has going for it is the water view. Overall way better places in Newport to try for just drinking and eating read more

This place used to be 'The Port'. As of 2021, it's now under new ownership (same owners as the Fastnet Pub on Broadway, Newport RI). This place is a great spot to grab some drinks by the Newport harbor waterfront. I've yet to try the food, but I highly recommend for drinks. It's in the heart of downtown Newport, making it easily accessible by foot. They also have darts and pool, and occasionally - live music. read more

Stay away , it's a local bar , they serve the locals drinks first, if you're not from New England, you get the "New York treatment ". On top of that they overcharged my bill to pay for drinks for the local college kids they are trying to get dates with. It's the same in Vermont , very angry residents sick of the New York media dominating their air waves. And once again they overcharge your bill here promising refunds , hoping you head home too far away to dispute a charge. read more
