Bruises on my arm from a massage at One Spa.

I see reviews here about spa guests leaving with unwanted bruises on their body. It is true. I, too, was badly bruised after a massage session at One Spa: 3 dark bruises on my upper arm. I've had many types of massages all over the world without ever being bruised, until now. Bruising is never acceptable, especially at this cost. In addition, the reviews about the small size of the spa are correct. If you book during a holiday or when the hotel is full, the small size could easily create overcrowding. Another issue with the spa design is that it puts the gym between the spa treatment rooms and the changing room/shower/sauna/restroom area. That meant that I had to walk past the men in the gym wearing only my spa robe with no clothing on underneath my robe to get to my massage treatment room. VERY uncomfortable. Once my two spa services were concluded and I was getting dressed in the massage room, I saw three dry stains on the towel my massage therapist used on my body. That's unsanitary. I showed them to my massage therapist, who touched the biggest and darkest stain, said that it was a dry stain, probably a dryer burn, and that he would immediately throw away that towel. I left wondering why he didn't see those stains like I saw them. I felt unclean. Finally, as I was leaving the spa, I asked the lady at the front desk if I could pay for valet parking with her inside the spa. She said I could, and took my card to pay for valet. She gave me a bar code to give to valet. However, when I arrived outside at the hotel, valet parking, both the young girl behind the cashier counter, and the valet man very firmly/rudely insisted that I needed to pay them for valet, again. I paid them the $5. I called the spa back to find out that there was a misunderstanding. At that point, I gave up and went home. Not a relaxing finish to an almost relaxing spa experience. The manager was empathetic, and offered a complimentary massage. I passed, but thanked her. I let her know that once I saw bruises, I could not return for more.

The spa is private; the only people in the entire space are you + the amazing esthetician, Heather. The lobby space is beautiful, green, and inviting. They only use Organic to Green brand products which have very clean ingredients (a huge plus for sensitive skin)! Upon arrival, Heather explained the treatments and we started with body dry brushing + coco oil body treatment. Then, she gave me a scalp scrub + hair mask. This process was probably around 20-25 minutes. Then, I was given one hour total to enjoy the private lounge, infrared sauna (set to 133 degrees F) and steam shower. I spent 25 minutes in the sauna before taking a cold shower using their products, including a lovely body scrub. I also ate a few complementary snacks (mini KIND bars and fruit bars). After that, we concluded with their Signature Facial (~60 minutes) that included steam, aromatherapy, extractions, microdermabrasion, face mask, and much more. All throughout, Heather was very kind and answered all my skincare questions. Would absolutely recommend. I look forward to coming back! Not to mention, the price is really good if you buy the Groupon for the Bungalow Experience. For a total of $160 (Groupon was about $85 with the summer promotion, plus a $75 tip based on the full treatment price), I had 2.5 hours of pure relaxation. I started my day stressed out, and now I feel so much better. TLDR: amazing private spa experience using organic products at a reasonable price! Highly recommend!

When I arrived as a walk-in today, the receptionist who is very nice said they would offer a discount. They offer nail services on the ground floor and massage services upstairs. The address is 3014 Pacific Avenue on the corner just next to the florist. The interior is clean and they have a great billing system for swift service. My main problem is that few of these people who offer nail services cannot communicate in English. Secondly I had a male operator who spoke almost no English. I asked for a standard manicure/pedicure and he kept pointing to the menu and I acknowledged as such, yet the pricing was $70 which was ridiculous. Again, the language barrier is evident as I begged him to cut "short" which fell upon deaf ears. This is the third time this has occurred and it's bothersome. He did a decent job with the nails, but when someone can't communicate, it is poor service. I was charged $70 and the receptionist reduced it to $60, which I thought was still way too high to cut nails and file. I do not blame the manicurist, I blame to owner or manager who operates and manages this team of about 6 on a Monday morning. I left a $5 Tip on a service that was just gouging. There marketing worked as I did visit based on reaching out. But the pricing is confusing and when the manicurist cannot communicate, it is all the more problematic to recommend. The number is 424-228-2551.

Our deep tissue massage experience was impeccable: Lisa technique is the true perfection ( polished through 20 years of service !) and Liv(?) is absolutely amazing therapist as well. I have visited countless spas all over the country, so I write this review with plenty of other good experiences to compare it to. The good: Scheduling was a breeze. I thought it seemed a little unorthodox to not provide a phone number (it seems that appointments are only scheduled via an online form), but I was able to secure the services I wanted on the date/time requested. My husband and I scheduled 90-minute deep tissue massages and facials (60-minute gentleman's for him and 90-minute oxygen for me). Just before we began our massages, a staff member let us know that the esthetician who was supposed to perform my husband's facial called in sick. We were disappointed, but they offered us some products to make up for the last minute cancellation. This was unnecessary and unexpected, but we were touched by the gesture. Additionally, my massage therapist was very sweet. It was an effective and relaxing service. The bad: The spa as a whole simply does not meet the standards of the rest of the hotel (the spa is located inside of the Casa Del Mar). In fact, it feels like the spa was a complete afterthought. The space is super tiny. The relaxation lounge is so small that it feels like you're walking into a closet. The locker room situation - absolutely embarrassing. There is only one restroom, one shower, and no designated area for changing, unless you want to change right in front of the door that could swing open at any moment. Because of this poor locker room design, another guest was changing in the restroom, which just so happened to be the only women's restroom on site. I needed to use the restroom, so I asked a staff member if there were any other ladies' rooms nearby. The only option presented to me was to enter the men's locker room and use the men's restroom. Gross. It probably goes without saying that all of the other basic spa amenities you'd expect to find at a hotel of this caliber, (such as a steam room and sauna, hot tea and so on) are also missing from this establishment. I could've overlooked these issues if the rest of my experience on site was top-notch, and as previously mentioned, my massage was very nice. However, my facial can only be described as hellacious. The esthetician was so aggressive during extractions that I actually burst into tears when I couldn't take the pain anymore. Keep in mind that I receive facials regularly, and have done so for many years. I am familiar with the process. I have NEVER experienced extractions so forceful, and an esthetician so unsympathetic. My skin was unbelievably irritated and inflamed afterwards. Two days post-treatment, and I am still experiencing not only redness and inflammation, but also scabs from the extractions. Unacceptable. I'm shocked and disappointed. I don't want a refund. I don't want or expect anything from the spa or Casa Del Mar in an attempt to make up for this terrible experience. I just wish I hadn't scheduled anything with Sea Wellness Spa in the first place, and believe that other guests should know what they're getting themselves into before visiting.
