She was genuinely friendly, thoughtful, and attentive to our needs, making us feel welcome from start to finish. She even surprised us with complimentary cocktails, which was such a lovely and unexpected birthday treat. Before my visit, I had read reviews mentioning that the spa's layout was awkward because you walk through the gym in your robe to get between the locker room and relaxation area. Honestly, I didn't find it to be an issue at all. The gym was clean, uncrowded, and the short walk didn't detract from the experience in the slightest. The massage itself was absolutely fantastic. I feel terrible that I can't remember my massage therapist's name because they truly did an incredible job. I left feeling completely relaxed, refreshed, and pampered. What really made this visit stand out was the outstanding customer service. Rebekah went above and beyond to make my birthday feel special, and her genuine care made all the difference. "Cozy and homey" are what real estate agents would describe this place. The relaxation lounge was tiny and cramped, seating for about 6. The hallways to treatment rooms resemble a small ship. You have to walk thru the fitness center to get to the steam sauna and locker rooms. Sauna was the size of a standup shower. The massage and facials were amazing. Their techniques are excellent. However, i had an issue with their booking: booked a 30min facial but they did a 60min service--which they then charged me for. I have no problem with paying for a service but was not happy there was no service recovery for something I did not request, and put me behind schedule for the rest of the day. A weird way to upsell and Not exactly the relaxation i was seeking having to confront them about this. read more

The Spa and fitness center at Shutters is very nice. New high tech equipment with towels, water and fruits. I had a .irninf work out on the treadmill daily. The restroom/changing areas are very clean and nice decorated. You walk through the gym to change for the spa which is a bit strange. This set up is not great when having spa services. The relaxation room to wait for your appointment is crowded and small not a fabulous design. Music see shells and trickling water. The deep tissue massage was the best. I also enjoyed the hour facial. The Spa is expensive but normal for a hotel experience. I would recommend these services as it was relaxing and rejuvenating. read more

One The Spa, is an intimate spa located in the Shutters hotel. Just steps away from the beach, once the door here closes behind you you will think you escaped to nirvana as the smells envelop you, the calming music soothes you, and the nautical decor reminds you of the sea. Funny- I've stayed at this hotel countless times and never knew that this spa was located on the lower level. You check in at the front desk of the spa, and they escort you to a small locker room where you get your robe and slippers. The dual gender waiting room is done up with seashells, and the sound of trickling water calms your soul. I had a facial with Dijana (sp?) and it was fantastic. She made my skin look amazing! At the end of the hour facial- it was tough to come back to reality. Prices aren't cheap (facial was $150 plus tip) but the quality of the products, and of the staff makes it worthwhile. I can't give them a bad review because ultimately they had an appointment open that I could take when another massage ended up canceling. The spa feels like a second thought, it feels like it's a place in the middle of the hotels gym with a guest elevator there as well. The locker rooms are on the other side of the gym which means you have to walk through a very narrow area of people working out and you're in a bathrobe with nothing on. My massage was fine, nothing great. I have a social time, and this was not a great one. I came here a couple months back as a reward for my great work performance the last quarter of 2013. My manager is a big believer in these incentives (I guess the company has that mindset in general). Anyway, I'm not usually one to go get my nails done, so this was a nice little treat! Given that I'm not a frequenter of nail salons, I was pretty excited to go to One The Spa since my manager and teammate have been raving out the Shutters Hotel. It just as fancy as I would've expected it to be. The service was great. Of course, everyone was super polite, got me a glass of ice water right away, and had smiles all around. I had to use the restroom before my appointment, so I basically got a quick tour of the facilities. There's a private gym in there in addition to the nail salon rooms. The bathroom is a luxury in itself haha I was very impressed. Anyway, to review the actual nail service, it was pretty nice. I had a lovely lady named Tracy who has been in the business for quite some time. There was some indie film festival going on at the beach, so she was telling me about some of the celebrities she's worked with before. She let me try a selection of polishes before finally settling on a subtly sparkly light pink color. I had the "Light Touch" which is your basic hand/nail treatment (about 40-45 min). For $55, it is kinda overpriced, but if you think about the ambience and everything, it's not too bad to treat yourself. (or receive it as a gift/reward haha). I see reviews here about spa guests leaving with unwanted bruises on their body. It is true. I, too, was badly bruised after a massage session at One Spa: 3 dark bruises on my upper arm. I've had many types of massages all over the world without ever being bruised, until now. Bruising is never acceptable, especially at this cost. In addition, the reviews about the small size of the spa are correct. If you book during a holiday or when the hotel is full, the small size could easily create overcrowding. Another issue with the spa design is that it puts the gym between the spa treatment rooms and the changing room/shower/sauna/restroom area. That meant that I had to walk past the men in the gym wearing only my spa robe with no clothing on underneath my robe to get to my massage treatment room. VERY uncomfortable. Once my two spa services were concluded and I was getting dressed in the massage room, I saw three dry stains on the towel my massage therapist used on my body. That's unsanitary. I showed them to my massage therapist, who touched the biggest and darkest stain, said that it was a dry stain, probably a dryer burn, and that he would immediately throw away that towel. I left wondering why he didn't see those stains like I saw them. I felt unclean. Finally, as I was leaving the spa, I asked the lady at the front desk if I could pay for valet parking with her inside the spa. She said I could, and took my card to pay for valet. She gave me a bar code to give to valet. However, when I arrived outside at the hotel, valet parking, both the young girl behind the cashier counter, and the valet man very firmly/rudely insisted that I needed to pay them for valet, again. I paid them the $5. I called the spa back to find out that there was a misunderstanding. At that point, I gave up and went home. Not a relaxing finish to an almost relaxing spa experience. The manager was empathetic, and offered a complimentary massage. I passed, but thanked her. I let her know that once I saw bruises, I could not return for more. read more

Took my daughter for Mother's Day for massages From the minute we walked in I could see it was not starting off in a good way We stood there for 10 min before we were even acknowledged. After walking through the fitness center to get to locker room where it was filthy, towels and water all over the floor, gross. Emma was amazing!!! My daughters massage not so much. The noise in the hallways was terrible Had to once again walk through fitness center in robes only to find the locker room even more disgusting Still no one cleaned up! In honor of my cousin's birthday, I wanted to treat her to an amazing day starting with a manicure/pedicure at a 5-star resort. I am a "strip mall nail salon" kind of girl so my expectations for service and treatment were high. To begin, the nail room is very small. With the two of us receiving service and the two technicians catering to us, there was not much room to turn around. The nail technician catering to me was Gigi. She is amazing. She is very friendly, not overly talkative but will engage in conversation if you ask. She was very good to ask about the temperature of the water, noticed when the massage was painful for me and even gave me some snacks from her drawer when my stomach kept growling during the service. She gets a 5-star rating from me. The other technician, Edna (?) was very quiet but seemed to do a good job on my cousin. My biggest let-down was the pedicure. While the service was fine, the seating is a bit uncomfortable. It is a bench with pillows stuffed behind your back to ensure that you are able to make your feet hit the water. For me, it meant two pillows behind me and perfect posture. It was not relaxing in the least. In fact, it had me missing my strip mall pedicure in the big, reclining, massage chair! All in all, was the manicure/pedicure worth $160? No. Did I ever think it would be? No. I went in knowing that this was an extravagance that would likely never be repeated in my lifetime. Was it better than my strip mall service? In some ways, yes. The nail room at the One Spa is very small and not very comfortable. However, the service that Gigi performed was very nice, the conversation was pleasant and I did feel a bit pampered. All in all, I'm happy but likely won't return for this service again. read more

I gave my wife a birthday gift at One Spa thinking it was going to be a great experience for her. I choose the aroma renewal treatment that costed 295$ before tax and tip. When my wife arrived, the hostess was on the phone talking to her friend and did not even attempt to greet her. After my wife was getting a little anxious she finally said, "let me call you back"... They led my wife to her room and began the treatment which she described as cold and mediocre at best. At the end of the session she had to pay with her own credit card instead of mine which was on file already. They were supposed to make the day special and soothing for her and somehow they made the experience stressful and uneventful. Not even a happy birthday from the manager or massuese. It's a smaller spa, so if you're tired of big commercial spas where everyone is talking loudly and treating it like a locker room...you'll be refreshed, as I was, by One. I had a massage that was delightful, a birthday treat from my friend, and we sat in the beautiful lounge for a while to chat and enjoy the beautiful solitude. I came here for the first time on a Sunday - my birthday present to myself. It was $240 and it was amazing. Sigh. I know - it's really expensive but it was amazing. I'm still justifying it to myself. Yeah sure that's practically a new phone, a puppy, a plane ticket!!! But.......I got a body treatment at a spa. There are actually 3 body treatments advertised at OneSpa -- detox, energizing, and healing. All come with a massage + scrub + shower. I think the lady said that the detox comes with a mask too? Not 100% sure. I had the Japan energizing body treatment. The energizing tx consists of a shiatsu massage - which I learned was a finger pressure massage. Never had it before. I liked it! The other treatments come with other massage types I guess. After the massage, they scrub you, and lastly, they'll shower you. They being the aesthetician. Now.....I kid you not - they shower you! You're laying on the table with warm rain coming down on you. Sounds weird but feels awesome. And the aesthetician has a portable shower head to clean you off. :) Like a baby!!! Your best baby days relived for a couple minutes. Be prepared to be naked - everything off including underwear. But they are really good about your modesty. Had my important bits covered at all times, which was nice. They are professionals! My person - I can't remember her name - was amaaaaazing. I live in the 'hood and I thought I would try the salon for waxing services right before a destination wedding. MISTAKE! It was the WORST experience I've had in an LA salon. The women's name was Nadia and she not only burned the top of my left thigh, she then bruised my right leg in two spots. Bad bruises that I unfortunately had through my entire vacation! I loved this Spa! It was expensive, but what I expect for a hotel experience. It is on the small side and you do have to walk through the gym to get to the dressing room. However, that didn't bother me considering if I am changing in a dressing room and walking around a spa in a robe I am obviously going to have to be ok being around other people! My massage was awesome - the pressure did start out kind of tough (which she warned me about and asked me to tell her if it wasn't to my liking) but I asked her to ease up and after that it was amazing. I also got a pedicure with Gigi and it was great, not just the massage part but the entire cleaning process was awesome. Its okay, very good service, though it's totally overpriced. Its really not worth the money. You can get such quality massage at every Chinese corner in Los Angeles, obviously you pay for the hotel. If you stay there and just feel reluctant to go anywhere else you know just lazy, you can pamper yourself and go there as i do, but if you observe your budget to well and want to be satisfied with the service and quality as well and not to feel ripped off at the end, then it's better to choose something else. Unfortunately what I have noticed people who write 5 star reviews never in their lives have seen a good spa. I am confused by the 4-5 star ratings. Has anyone been to an amazing spa before? Having just recently moved here from SF, let's just say my husband and I were completely underwhelmed by the lack of amenities and overall vibe. Bottom line - nice massage, not worth the price for the poor ambiance. The Good: - The main event - the massage - was awesome. Thank goodness there. The Bad: - Don't get me started on the "relaxation room". What is relaxing about be crammed in a 6x12 room filled with other guests looking as confused as you about how we are all going to fit. I had to sit on my husband's lap while crammed in with 6 other people - A little lame that you have to walk through the gym to get to the locker room, and then walk back through the gym in your robe to get to the lobby and "relaxation room" - Bought the Vday package that includes lunch at Coast (their less expensive restaurant). I should have known they were going to provide a prixe-fixe menu, however there were only three entree choices and one was a veggie burger. Ugh. - We couldn't finish our lunches. Chicken entree equals major thumbs down. I could have stayed home and made a better one that didn't taste like it was cooked in the microwave. She actually took the time to really work on those areas I needed to get worked on which is mostly my shoulder and lower back. This was by far better than what I had in Maui at the Mandara Spa. I didn't know what facial I wanted and they weren't annoyed by that at all. She customized a treatment for me and I couldn't have been happier. If I had to crown the Queen Bee of Facial Massages in LA, Dijana M. would earn that crown over any newbie around town. My gawds can the woman give you a facial massage that feels like a mini-facelift! Her hard learned technique from Serbia is proof positive that kneading deep and long strokes into the sides of your face actually will help you look years younger. I know as I just came back from a deluxe Omorovicza Blue Diamond treatment and have been wowed unlike ever before. The line seriously helped boost my inner glow factor. The fastest 90 minutes I have ever spent in a spa and I spend a lot of time in them. Her invigorating technique (and gentle extractions) places an emphasis on healthy skin, not gimmicky foreskin ingredients and fruity frills. She's so worth the splurge while the products have converted me from my usual La Prairie line. My Visa is going to hate me now. read more

I really enjoy this spa. It is very relaxing and intimate. They have a great resting room decorated in sea shells where you are served tea and flavored water. The staff is friendly and nice. Every time I've come for a massage, the masseuse is great--and I don't request anyone in particular. I also come here for facials and my aesthetician Margaret is fantastic. I recommend anyone who is having trouble with their skin or is just looking for some extra glow to see Margaret. She is a pro and has been doing this for a long time. I am a resident of Santa Monica and have luxuriated in many special spas. This was not one of them. Having read the menu of services, I wanted to give my daughter and myself a treat. We were misled and sadly disappointed. We shared one manicurist, so what turned out to be a simple manicure and pedicure took three hours. For $260, we received no aromatherapy as described on their menu of services, and a "massage" lasting under a minute each.
