Finding a new salon after moving has been a challenge but One83 Mane Studio changed that and I'm SO happy with my color & cut. First their website has bios for all the stylist to help you choose the one that is right for your needs. I chose Kathie. Next was the phone call which can be a clear sign of the attitude of a salon. The person that I spoke with answered all my questions, was courteous, and accommodating. My appointment with Kathie was great. She asked questions, listened to my concerns, looked at the pictures I brought, and gave me her recommendations. She got to work with my color, followed by a razor cut, my first and it was so cool. She finished with a blow dry & style. She taught me how to style it and recommended the types of products I should use BUT she wasn't trying to push products on me, which I hate. My color looks amazing & my cut is cute, sexy, & edgy. I would DEFINITELY recommend this salon and give it a 5+ rating! BTW hubby LOVED it and said "You look beautiful & It's my favorite color and cut you've had since you went short" Now that says it all, LOL. read more

Each month I get a hydro-facial and I've seen a dramatic difference. Cut and color are always perfect and a blow out with Wendy, Kim , Nicole or Liliana wraps up a great spa day. I can't even review the services because their customer service is so bad, so lacking that I haven't had anything done there. In an industry where you're a dime a dozen, wouldn't it behoove you to go the extra mile? Or at bare minimum, try? I was really happy to find this salon does hair and makeup and wanted to use them for my wedding day. I spent over a week trying to speak to a manager about pricing, timing, availability, you know, the usual. I had been back and forth with a nice guy at the front desk and he said to just come in on a Saturday to speak to the owner. My biggest problem is that my wedding is early and my photographer is coming in the morning. Anywhere I'd go would have to begin at 7am-ish. So I sat there waiting for the manager and I understand they were busy. That wasn't the problem. When she finally spoke to me, we had a 3 minute conversation and she made me feel like my early timeline was an inconvenience. There was no sit down, no discussion, no pricing, nothing. Why did I drive over here? Couldn't I have just called you? She said she would contact me on Monday 7/14. ETA: I still haven't heard heard from them. Not that it matters, since on my drive home I passed Bliss Salon in Towaco and had a totally different experience. No appointment, off the street, I just walked in for some info. A girl took the time to talk to me, get my info and emailed me that night with pricing. I approached my early timeline with skepticism, due to the response I got from Elysium to which the girl said, "We would open at 5AM if you need!" In a matter of 3 days, I booked my date and scheduled a trial with Bliss. Still not a word from Elysium. I WOULDN'T EVEN TAKE MY DOG TO ELYSIUM TO GET GROOMED. read more

I am fairly new to the area and have a blonde pixie cut, making frequent cuts necessary. I have tried quite a few salons, and have found Elysium to be superior for cut and color. Making an appointment is extremely convenient via their online appointment system, and even gives deals for "last minute" cuts, which I prefer anyway. Kathie cut my hair, and I have never received so many compliments. I'm in my 20's, I don't want a mom haircut, or to look like a man. She nailed an age appropriate, sort've funky but feminine pixie cut. I went to a wedding after getting my cut, and literally had strangers complimenting my hair. My hair was platinum for years, and I decided it was time to go darker. I have attempted this multiple times, including at other salons in the area, and always ended up running for the bleach. She did a corrective color and kept some highlights for me, and it turned out fantastic. Obviously going from platinum to medium/light brown is going to be traumatic, and it was a little dark for me at first, but it's lightened to a beautiful light, golden brown. I'm happy I've found my new go-to salon. A previous review mentioned Bliss in Towaco. I've had my hair cut and colored there. I walked out looking exactly how I walked in, after spending $150+. I wanted to try another shade of blonde, and I could not tell the difference. Actually, I remember thinking my roots were brassy, which as a blonde is a big no no. The cut was alright. Not very welcoming at all. There Massage SUCKED! I have had plenty of hot stone massages and that one was the WORST EVER!!! Wasn't offered a beverage when there was a section for it but was told I can go across the street for coffee. What kinda crap is that!? Would never recommend that place to anyone ever!! read more

First time at this Salon. Was a little weary after I booked the appointment reading the reviews. This salon is a find! I used to go into NYC for years to have my cut and color done. In my opinion the negative reviews could not be further from the truth. I felt welcomed from the minute I walked thru the door. Lil did both my hilights and my cut. Since it had been 6 months since I did anything with my hair she had quite the challenge ahead of her. My hair looks AMAZING. I can't say enough good things. I am glad I did not get hung up on the reviews squabbling over coupons. I booked my next appointment before leaving. I highly recommend trying this salon. read more

This salon is an amazing find. The hair cut is comparable to going to a NYC salon without the high prices and inconvenience. I have thick curly hair and have struggled with it always. For the first time ever I have found someone that can cut and style it so I can manage it. Kathie's a master with the razor cut. Her color is amazing and so natural looking. I am often asked where I have my hair done. I come from Vernon to Lincoln Park to this salon and will consider no other. The entire staff is very friendly and helpful, and the salon itself is clean, attractive, and current. I have also had facials and manicures and pedicures. Again, very professional and enjoyable. #bumbleandbumble I was looking for a salon in the area that was Bumble & Bumble affiliated since Bumble in NYC has always done a wonderful highlighting job with my hair. I found that Elysium was close to home so was really excited to give them a try. I asked for their most senior colorist so the nice man at the front desk booked me with Kathy, the owner. I did let the man at the front desk know that I needed a root touch up and highlights. Sadly when I arrived to Elysium for my appointment, Kathy barely had time for a partial highlight so I agreed. Kathy seemed quite rushed when working on my hair. I was concerned about her focus but didn't say a word and hoped for the best. The highlights came out too light and even though she tried a few times to talk me into it (and told me to come back next week so she could fix it) I was adamant about having her take the 10 minutes to re-tone and get it right. (I had talked to her in the beginning of my appt about not wanting the hightlights to be too light). When she got the color right, everyone in the salon had to tell me how amazing I looked, which I have to say, is quite annoying when you can feel that the compliments are fake. I also purchased 4 large bottles of Bumble products totaling $298. The services were $235. When I got home, I noticed that the left side of my head was much lighter than the right side... and noticed that 3 of the very expensive bottles of Bumble products were only 80-85% filled compared to the 4th bottle which was completely filled. I called Elysium the next day, and spoke to Jamie, the manager. She told me to come back so they could fix the balance of the highlights and to bring the bottles back "no problem" as she agreed that some bottles weren't as filled as others - so she said she would fill them up. When I went back to the salon (that is 30 minutes away from me) a week later. Kathy looked at my highlights, agreed that the left side was much lighter than the right side and also agreed that there were no highlights at the bottom of my hair (my hair length is below shoulders). She wanted to charge me an additional $10 per highlight to fix. I was annoyed by this as Bumble or even JC Christophers in Kinnelon, never would have charged additionally to fix the mistake. I asked Kathy to please charge me the difference between the partial and full highlights, which I wanted in the first place. She wasn't happy but charged me $50 additionally. Then she gave me a very hard time about the products that I brought back. Jamie acted like I never had the conversation with her. Kathy made a scene in front of other customers and relented. I told her I wanted to return the products and she wouldn't allow it. So after some fuss and some drama, she said she would fill the bottles. I got home and found that the bottles were the same exact level as they were when I brought them back to Elysium. It doesn't look like Kathy added anything to the bottles. Kathy's job of adding the highlights and to remedy the imbalance was also not professional. Instead of adding highlights and toning as originally done, she just used a lighter color on parts of my hair and didn't tone at all. My hair does not look balanced and I'm extremely disappointed in Elysium's services and their attitude. Often, throughout my original and 2nd visit, I found Kathy and her employees looking at me, then looking at each other and rolling their eyes. After spending over $600, one really should expect a higher level of professionalism. I hope Bumble & Bumble knows that a salon affiliated to them, is treating customers with such a bad attitude. Kathy even gave me a hard time about drying my hair just to see if the color was better! Very upsetting. #bumbleandbumble please be aware. Thank you. read more
