I was so excited when I noticed that Ono Hawaiian BBQ is located next to my hotel. I wouldn't wait to try it. Today, I tried and regretted why I even come here. I was sticker shocked with the prices of drinks. $2.99 for soda, Hawaiian Sun fruit punch and water. I ordered Island White Fish and BBQ Chicken Mix. It came in a lunch box with the restaurant name engraved on it. This looked like a lot of food. But after finishing the meats, I noticed abundant of boiled vegetables below. The vegetables are consisted of boiled cabbage, broccoli and cabbage. Omg so much cabbages. No flavor and hard to chew. Mac salad was so-so. Rice was dry. Fish was mushy. We've been going to this location for years--my husband has probably been going there his whole life. He has always loved the food, and now our kids love it too, so it's kind of become a family tradition for us. Recently we've been there twice and they had these scratchers where you can win discounts or even free food. It's honestly awesome and such a fun little bonus. I'm giving 3 stars only because the food can be hit or miss. Some days it's absolutely delicious, and other days we end up with really bad pieces of meat. The last time we went, the ribs we got were more fat than meat, which was disappointing. That said, we love their teriyaki chicken and the rice. We order both the family meals and individual meals depending on the day. The portions are good. I do wish they used shredded cabbage under the meat instead of the larger pieces of cabbage and broccoli, but it's not terrible. Sometimes it actually helps balance out the heaviness of the meal. Overall, we like the customer service. They're one of the only locations still letting people eat inside, and they're always busy. We found a dead cockroach under our table and brought it to a staff member's attention, even showing them a photo. The response was surprisingly dismissive. The staff member simply said, "Oh, maybe we need to call pest control," and then went back to chatting with coworkers. There was no apology, no attempt to check the area, and no effort to address our concern. Finding a dead insect can happen in any restaurant, but what disappointed us most was the complete lack of professionalism and concern after it was reported. Came in on a Thursday afternoon, no line, lots of tables, lady at the counter was very polite. Place was clean. We ordered the chicken and beef combo rice plate for around $18 with tax. I was worried our order was not gonna be enough but I wasn't that hungry. We were surprised when our order came in about 3 minutes because the serving was big! Me and my husband shared the rice plate, it had 2 scoops of rice and 1 scoop of macaroni salad,the macaroni was so good. The chicken and beef were tender, juicy and delicious. This was a treat that has been a long time coming. I had a coupon for by one plate get one free. We had two mixed plates one I added Katsu Chicken. The service was extremely fast even with 4 people ahead, I doubt we waited more than 10 minutes. everything was delicious and very tasty. Their combo plates just work well together with shredded cabbage under the meat and a side of cold macaroni. It's a shame that they don't put out more coupons, but that will not keep us from returning. We took our order to go, the restaurant was very clean with a relaxing atmosphere . The service here is rude. I ordered here after the gym. The two Hispanic cashiers weren't helpful and didn't care about providing good customer experience. I waited 30 mins to get my food and I only followed up once but the response from the Hispanic lady was very short and rude. I would have appreciated, "we're doing the best we can to get you your food. It might take a minute since it's rush time. Thank you much for your patience." Definitely coming back here once a week again, had a issue awhile back where they were filling up family meals entree containers with 2/3rd vegetables and 1/3rd of the container of meat. Now I came back after a few months and they definitely fixed the issue. They don't stuff vegetables under the family meal entrees anymore and finally getting what I pay for. Not Authenic Hawaiian Food. But I dont go here for authenticity. My usual order is a Kids Chicken Katsu (comes with sides I do an extra scoop of rice), spam masubi (2) and I usually always order an extra side of mac salad. (Pics Provided) The katsu is underwhelming and although deep fried you can tell its been in the freezer prior to cooking. Never had any issues with the spam masubi, the flavor has remained consistent with every order. Good quick snack. I do not like Mac Salad even homemade mac salad doesnt taste good to me BUT when im at Onos I will always order extra. Parking is shared and easy to get into. I think this is one of the better Hawaiian places in the area. I love Hawaii and I love Hawaiian food even more, and I feel that Ono does a good job at taking care of my fix. I have tried other places and they just don't do the job. I love to order the seafood combo or the BBQ combo. The Kahlua pork is also close enough to getting my fix when I need it. Their portions are pretty big and enough for a second meal. I usually get the combos to try a bit of everything. We ordered everything over the phone -- it can get pretty busy at lunch time so I recommend calling in if you are impatient like me and don't like standing around. Their rice was good, not soggy or hard. I had a few pieces of broccoli and they were HARD as fuck to chew (I have braces, leave me alone). I normally don't do reviews... but this recent experience just left me hungry and feeling like i was ripped off out of $17. The staff was kind, the prices are okay, but the portion I was given for the BBQ Mix was Terrible. I ordered at the counter, took it home, and opened it, only to find they had given me a cabbage plate, topped with about 3.5 oz of cooked meat. It came with a scoop of white rice and macaroni salad and the rest, 65-70% of the plate, was filled with layers and layers of cabbage. I had actually eaten a bit of the cabbage and my plate was still filled with it. I am not exaggerating.. the entire lower portion was all cabbage, it just had some meat at the top I am just disappointed that the cooks thought it was a fair portion of meat. Here are a couple photos of the remaining cabbage in the container, it was still filled even after I had eaten a little. The little big of meat I did end up eating did taste great though, I just wish there was a little more of it. I probably won't be coming back for a little while. read more

I love Onos and I've always gone to the one in San Francisco or Daly city so it was nice to try a different one. I ordered the special $6 fried white fish meal. 1. Island White Fish Aloha Plate: Love the fish which was perfectly freshly fried and crunchy on the outside. Fish was flakey and flavorful on the inside. Came with 4 pieces (although some pieces were very small). Of course the salad is also excellent and fresh as usual. My favorite thing about Onos is their amazing Teriyaki sauce. We were able to finally go here after not eating out for awhile due to COVID. Our visit was on Saturday, Jan. 30, 2021, when my son and I came here for lunch. We definitely miss this place as we usually eat here at least once a month pre-COVID days. We came here and there are markers on the ground letting you know where to wait while others place orders ahead of you. All the employees are wearing masks and gloves. There are individual hand sanitizers in front of each registers. There is no sit-down dining. After you pick up your food, which came really fast, we were asked which sauce we wanted. We got teriyaki and katsu sauces which came in its individual covered cups. Unfortunately, even though outdoor dining is now allowed, there wasn't one available so we had to eat in our car. The parking spots in front of their shop was only good for half an hour but the huge gym parking lot across the street was very empty so we had plenty of spots to pick.
