Family Style Dinner B "Szechuan" for 2
    Michelle C.

I was ready to give Hong Kong Restaurant a raving review up until the end of our meal. To preface- my family used to frequent this place a lot when we lived here back in the day, but over the years since moving away, kinda forgot about it. My fiance and I were in the area and craving hot and sour soup. I told him about how I used to come to HKR as a kid and how it's been around for decades, etc etc. The inside still looked the same (with that classic 90s green marble lol) and the nostalgia really hit me! We ordered the Family Style Complete Dinner in package B "Szechwan Dinner" for 2 ($24.95/pp) which included: - Hot and sour soup - Fried won tons & shrimp - Mongolian beef - Garlic chicken - House fried rice Good sized portions, solid food. We were enjoying everything up until we were trying to get their attention for our check and to-go boxes. My fiance would wave them down and they'd acknowledge him with a "1 moment" hand gesture, but then go to other tables and never come back. This happened a few more times before he went up to the front to ask for the check and boxes himself. They gave him the check and he paid right there, tipping 15%. The total came out to about $63 and some change including tip. When he got back to the table he mentioned how much the lady was staring at him while he was writing out the total to see how much he was tipping. I thought he was just over-exaggerating until the same lady came over while we were boxing up our food to accuse him of tipping low. She started collecting the dirty plates, and asked in an accusatory tone, "why you tip so low??" I was like wtf, did she really just say that? He was confused too because he tipped 15% (the standard. Could've tipped nothing tbh!) and told her to look again. She did just that. We were appalled. She came back and said "oh yeah, sorry." Loud and wrong. Totally unprofessional and tainted our dining experience. Sadly won't be coming back.

Average spot for lunch rush. I had a sweet and sour chicken lunch and was provided a hearty serving along with corn soup. So much food it was enough for lunch the next day. Quick service.

I have been coming here for over 30 years and it still has the best Chinese food in the area! My waiter was very attentive and provides the best information about all the dishes. They kept the same vintage ambiance and I wouldn't have it any other way. An oldie but goodie

There's no way I haven't yelped this place before! My husband has been coming here since our 10yo was a new born babe. This hidden gem is always busy with phone orders or walk in customers. We like to do both in person and over the phone orders. Some of our favorites: Walnut shrimp- AMAZING it's always sweet with the perfect crunch. I wish we got more but that's just bc it's so good. They give you plenty with the to go order. Walnuts are delicious as well. Garlic sauce chicken, shrimp and beef- the sauce is delicious but I do wish there was more shrimp in this order. They definitely give you enough chicken but not enough beef and shrimp. Comes with plenty veggies as well. Mongolian beef- the sauce is always great, wish it was a little spicier but my family loves it. Too much onion for us but still delicious. Orange chicken- our kids love this one and it comes with real slices of orange. Really adds to the tanginess. The chicken is a little too breaded but still delicious. Woe wonton soup- one of my personal favorites. When I order it to go I usually get a small and an order of rice and it's the PERFECT combo. It comes with chicken, shrimp, veggies, and of course wontons. One of the best broths I've had. Broccoli beef- one of my husbands favorite but this last time we went it did not hit the spot. Usually great tho. Pork fried rice- this is the reason they will never lose my husband as a customer. He dreams about this rice. Personally I love the shrimp fried rice but the pork is a close second. The pork is always crunchy and plenty of it. I am sure we've tried others but these are the top of our list. The ONLY reason why it's not a 5 star review is the service. Service is not always the best and now the new guy is always pushing more food on us. We order plenty but he won't take no for an answer. It's frustrating to be honest. The ladies are great and have been there a long time but the new guy not my favorite.

One thing about me- I always order the same things at Hong Kong Restaurant. It almost feels like they are an extension of my own kitchen. It's Beef with bean curd and tomato or if I feel like noodles, it'd be Tomato Beef Chow Mein. I also always get their Chinese Chicken Salad which is crunchy with the sweet dressing. They have a $10 minimum on cards.

Ordered 5 orders of various wonton soups to go and a large hot and sour soup. Each wonton soup only had 2 wontons each. They were big meatball size, but i would've preferred smaller wontons but more of them. Flavor wise, they were fine. Nothing amazing, but standard takeout. Hot and sour soup had shrimp and possibly chicken? maybe pork? Not vegetarian. Standard take out quality. 3 stars, but giving the 4th as a they were nice and had the food ready in less than 15 minutes.

Honey walnut shrimp, beef chow fun, broccoli beef, fried wonton, pork chow mein

Ordered takeout for lunar new year... good value as portion sizes were huge, speedy service, and plenty of options. Food flavor was average... however the broccoli tasted a little off and wasn't fresh and no fortune cookies were given.

    Garlic Chicken-just ok.
    Preet P.

Door dashed Garlic chicken, steamed rice, salt and pepper wings and hot and sour soup. Order was packed beautifully. Soup was very good and perfect for a rainy weather. Wings were crispy and full of flavor. Garlic chicken was ok. Didn't taste garlic at all. Will try their other soups next time.

*********************3.5 stars*******************…read more Today we stopped by for my friend's birthday lunch. Of all places, I don't know why she picked Fong Kee Clay Pot. Several months ago, I visited Fong Kee Clay Pot with a different friend who gave it rave reviews. The food isn't gross, but it's something I can make myself. Cook some meat and rice, and throw it in a clay pot. Although I didn't want to come here, the rest of my friends were excited to try this place. I kept my mouth shut and didn't express my opinion. Maybe I should have spoken up because everyone was underwhelmed by what we ordered. My food was bland and needed more flavor, but I wasn't sure what to add to make it more flavorful. What I shared with my husband: Preserved egg and chicken porridge with a Chinese donut Chinese sausage w/ salted fish I was disappointed by the amount of salted fish in my bowl. I found a few sheer pieces of basically nonexistent fish in my fish. It takes less than two dollars to make this dish, so I have no idea why a bowl of rice costs $17. I love preserved egg and chicken porridge, but this one lacked sodium and preserved duck egg flavor. My guess is that they made plain porridge and dumped chicken and preserved egg into it instead of cooking it on a slow simmer. My friend had to send her dish back because she found a hair in her food. Cons: Bland dishes Expensive dishes for what you actually get Pros: Prompt and good service for a party of 7. The next time a friend suggests Clay Pot, I will suggest a better alternative and spare us disappointment.

Ever since we tried…read moreChinese style bbq skewers last year, we definitely wanted to try more, Dynasty bbq came up on Yelp and seemed quite reasonable in price and serving size. When you enter and get seated, you will be prompted to go on the url code at the table to pick your items. While I understand that this is the new way for restaurants to serve guests post-covid, the vast menu items you have to scroll through makes me long for physical menus of the past - but that's just my boomer take for the day. There were a bunch of other items like rice and noodle dishes that looked interesting to pair with the meats, but we were only craving bbq so we skipped out on the carbs. We ordered a BUNCH of skewers, from the standard beef, lamb, pork belly to chicken skin and a fried quail. All of the skewers had the same type of dried chili powder spice seasoning mix so unfortunately there wasn't too much of a diversity in flavor profile but on the flip side, it allowed us to focus more on enjoying the meat quality itself (this is where rice or noodles would definitely help cut through the richness). All of the meats were incredibly well-cooked and charred. It is on the drier side, so be aware if you are looking for a juicier, plumper cut of meat that some other restaurants have. Paired with the Chinese vinegar, soy sauce, and chili oil, they were super delectable. My personal favorites were the pork belly, chicken skin, and beef. We had some leftovers to go and the staff provided us some extra sauce to go so that's a big plus. Great food here and definitely will be back to try more of the other menu items for the full experience.

The service was quick and attentive, and the restaurant itself was nicely decorated. The best thing we ordered was the Sizzling Yellow Croaker with Fried Garlics (9/10). The fish was super crispy, and the sweet, garlicky skin was incredibly addictive. I would 100% order this every time I come back. We also had the Shredded Cabbage with Sliced Pork (8/10), which was nice and tangy. The cabbage soaked up all the sauce, making every bite packed with flavor, while the pork provided a great contrast to the vegetables. The House Special Fried Rice with Pickle & Beef (7/10) wasn't anything extraordinary, but it served as a great base alongside the other dishes. The pickles were an interesting addition, as I've never had fried rice prepared that way before, but I definitely enjoyed it. Finally, we decided to try the House Special Spicy Frog in Stone Pot (6.5/10) since most of us had never had frog before. The flavor was outstanding, with a great umami depth and just the right amount of spice. The frog itself was a little difficult to eat because of the large number of bones, but the meat was tender and juicy. Replacing the frog with another protein probably would have made it more favorable, but I still enjoyed trying something new and didn't regret ordering it. Overall, Ping's Bistro is a great spot for outstanding Chinese food. Every dish we tried was enjoyable, and there are still so many items on the menu I'd love to come back and explore. Though I prefer my food a little bit more flavorful, Ping's Bistro really shot every single flavor up. The Steamed pork belly with preserved vegetables was served first, and without a doubt, is one of the spiciest. It's a good size for sharing, but the preserved vegetables on the bottom was mushy and came in a very small portion. Though supposed to be a part of the dish, seemed to be thrown in just for some extra flavor. Though I selected mild spiciness for the Spicy Boiled Fish, it was still REALLY spicy. Maybe it's my spice intolerance, but this dish lights a fire in your mouth. Also, this dish is mala, so it numbs your mouth. Some people may enjoy this sensation, but it's a pass for me. The fish was really soft and tender though. The fish was my favorite part of the Spicy Boiled Fish. Not only there is fish underneath, it was surprising to see other ingredients like lotus, vermicelli noodles, and much more. The salted egg covered pork was extremely salty and oily. I was surprised to know it was boneless, and I felt like the salted egg crust is too thin, which let the taste of the pork overthrow any type of salted egg taste. The Country Style Sautéed Pork with Eggs and Black Fungus was again one of my preferred dishes, though it was extremely oily. I really liked the egg, black fungus, and bell peppers in this dish. The eggs and black fungus were soaked with flavor and the bell peppers balanced out the heaviness. The pork was also alright, but more on the tougher side. If you were to come to Ping's Bistro, I would advise you to order the Country Style Sautéed Pork with Eggs and Black Fungus. The floors were really sticky, but other than that, everything was alright. The water was poured messily, but I guess it's no big thing. The staff were really quiet and avoided interaction. When they serve your dish, they never wait an extra second before they leave for any questions or requests. They just drop the dish and zoom away. From my review, just remember: saltiness. I'm not convinced that I'll come back again, but I'm glad I tried it out.
