This place has gone drastically down hill. Ordered a Loco Moco with fries and Katsu Masubi's. First of all they gave me the thinest,driest patties with hardly any gravy. To top it off the eggs were over cooked. No runnyness to them what so ever. And when i asked for 2 of the of teriyaki's they said i can i only get one...... i ordered 2 separate items, i think asking for 2 isn't asking for to much. On a Monday evening, I was driving thru Hayward and found myself at Gateway Plaza near Jackson St & Santa Clara St. It was near 9pm, so I thought I'd drive in and see what's still open. Guess what's open until 9:30pm? Ohana Hawaiian BBQ at Gateway Plaza! Usually I expect to get served old food just before closing, but not tonight. I actually had a decent meal, not a great meal......but it was okay. First, I walked in and no one was working at the front counter. There was a guy in the grill frantically cooking food. He looked up a few times while I waited along with some food delivery drivers. Then after 5-minutes, someone came out of the restroom, washed his hands, and took my order. I ordered the "BBQ Mix Combo" for $12.95. He said it'll take 10-mins. The BBQ Mix Combo is BBQ Short Ribs, BBQ Boneless Chicken, 2 scoops of white rice, and a scoop of macaroni salad. Utensils and napkins. (In-Store Price: $12.95 + tax) How was the food? The meat was excellent. The BBQ short ribs and chicken were hot, fresh and tasty. Juicy and tender meat, easy to eat. I'm guessing they had to cook a lot of food to fill delivery orders, and my short ribs and chicken came from that batch. Easy 5-stars! Large serving of meat. The white rice wasn't hot and fluffy. It was just rice. Grade: (3/5). The Macaroni Salad was terrible! It tasted like macaroni and mayonnaise. No other seasonings, just a glop of macaroni and mayo. Grade: (1/5). There's three parts to the meal, and they're not all made with same level of care and attention to quality. Would I come back? No thank you! read more

Mac salad was pretty bad, had small slivers of meat in it. Not very appetizing. The spam Musubi rice tasted like it was 5 days old and the spam slice was paper thin. read more

Since COVID, Doordash has become a staple in some households and Ohana Hawaiian BBQ is one of the better choices on my list around this area. You can find this establishment right off the Jackson Street exit off the 880 in a plaza on Harder Road. Since the plaza isn't that busy, there are a lot of parking spaces available for you to hop right in and back out with your food. This place does offer a seating area but I feel the seats and booths have aged a bit from the time it first opened (has gone through multiple management changes). Here, Ohana offers a menu similar to others of the same chain but also offers boba (subpar in my opinion). In comparison to other along the same or similar business, Ohana Hawaiian BBQ offers a smaller portion for their food but in exchange for slightly better tasting and faster service. My biggest plus is that their food has never been burnt. The major downside is that they could get my doordash order wrong from time to time but never a big deal since its a minor difference when they give me regular katsu instead of curry chicken katsu. If you are looking for a quick and simple meal or if you are cutting back to eat appropriate daily portion sizes, then this is the place for you. read more

We phoned in the order and they said it would be ready in 15-20 minutes. We ordered the Seafood Combo, Surf and Turf, BBQ chicken and rice and a fish taco. The best thing was the taco. Everything just taste really oily and heavy. Customer service was also lackluster and their soda machine was broken. Well, it was worth a try. I'm just glad I didn't get raw meat like other Yelpers did. I'll just go to my usual Ono next time I need a Hawaiian fix. read more

Such fast service! I visited this store on a Friday evening, was able to place my order and received it all within 10-15 minutes and honestly I was surprised at how fast they prepared the food. The food tastes the same as other Ohana locations which is good. This location isn't usually that popular so you most likely won't have to wait too long to order and get your food. Milk tea review: I would not recommend the milk tea although the menu looks very appealing. It tasted like it didn't have sugar in it and it was very watered down. The set up of the menu makes it difficult to try a variety of items. They have special plates that have a few combinations of dishes. There were also chicken, pork, beef and seafood combo plates. They were just meat, rice and macaroni. I asked if I could have more than one meat so it would be a real combo. I was told that you could get half and half but only meats in the same category. There also is no options for a la cart. The service is really slow. The food is decent. The lau lau and kahlua pork were a little dry. The katsu/katsu musubi is good. The woman at the register said I would have to pay 55 cents for katsu sauce becsuse I ordered the katsu musubi and not the katsu como plate. I would probably give more stars if I ordered Togo. I was charged over $150 for a large catering tray of what was supposed to be around 40 pieces of bbq beef short ribs what I received was about 15 ribs and the rest was cabbage underneath. I was in a hurry when I picked it up so I didn't check but the weight felt right. But in the end the weight was all cabbage and not the beef ribs I paid for. Will never give them my business again. So I wanted to try this spot out, bad idea. I ordered a soup, 2 bbq masubi, loco moco with no Mac, a chicken with gravy fries. What I got was a chicken KATSU masubi and spam masubi, mac where I didn't want any and oh let's not forget no soup. Ordered from Grubhub online and the Chicken Katsu with rice and macaroni salad was delicious! I miss Chicken Katsu and appreciate that they have this. Also my husband got some kind of steak meal with rice and macaroni salad and he liked it as well. Food arrived fresh from this establishment. With the Chicken Katsu, it was crunch on the skin which I like that when divulging in eating it. The sauce is essential to dip into too for a better flavor and taste.
