    Dry, over cooked, burned meat!!!

The food was over cooked, burnt literally! Dry not able to eat most of it, very disappointed!

On a Monday evening, I was driving thru Hayward and found myself at Gateway Plaza near Jackson St & Santa Clara St. It was near 9pm, so I thought I'd drive in and see what's still open. Guess what's open until 9:30pm? Ohana Hawaiian BBQ at Gateway Plaza! Usually I expect to get served old food just before closing, but not tonight. I actually had a decent meal, not a great meal......but it was okay. First, I walked in and no one was working at the front counter. There was a guy in the grill frantically cooking food. He looked up a few times while I waited along with some food delivery drivers. Then after 5-minutes, someone came out of the restroom, washed his hands, and took my order. I ordered the "BBQ Mix Combo" for $12.95. He said it'll take 10-mins. The BBQ Mix Combo is BBQ Short Ribs, BBQ Boneless Chicken, 2 scoops of white rice, and a scoop of macaroni salad. Utensils and napkins. (In-Store Price: $12.95 + tax) How was the food? The meat was excellent. The BBQ short ribs and chicken were hot, fresh and tasty. Juicy and tender meat, easy to eat. I'm guessing they had to cook a lot of food to fill delivery orders, and my short ribs and chicken came from that batch. Easy 5-stars! Large serving of meat. The white rice wasn't hot and fluffy. It was just rice. Grade: (3/5). The Macaroni Salad was terrible! It tasted like macaroni and mayonnaise. No other seasonings, just a glop of macaroni and mayo. Grade: (1/5). There's three parts to the meal, and they're not all made with same level of care and attention to quality. Would I come back? No thank you!

    Salmon Grilled Fish

Super long wait with not a lot of people in there. Ordered grilled salmon and it took over half an hour, but when I got home it was just these thin over cooked pieces. Tasted bland, was rubbery, and had a strong fishy smell.

    Dirty can

Check your refrigerated drinks! I just drank from a dirty can which made me look at the expiration date. The Hawaiian Sun expired in May 25! We are in mid July! Disgusting!

Since COVID, Doordash has become a staple in some households and Ohana Hawaiian BBQ is one of the better choices on my list around this area. You can find this establishment right off the Jackson Street exit off the 880 in a plaza on Harder Road. Since the plaza isn't that busy, there are a lot of parking spaces available for you to hop right in and back out with your food. This place does offer a seating area but I feel the seats and booths have aged a bit from the time it first opened (has gone through multiple management changes). Here, Ohana offers a menu similar to others of the same chain but also offers boba (subpar in my opinion). In comparison to other along the same or similar business, Ohana Hawaiian BBQ offers a smaller portion for their food but in exchange for slightly better tasting and faster service. My biggest plus is that their food has never been burnt. The major downside is that they could get my doordash order wrong from time to time but never a big deal since its a minor difference when they give me regular katsu instead of curry chicken katsu. If you are looking for a quick and simple meal or if you are cutting back to eat appropriate daily portion sizes, then this is the place for you.

Yikes! I wish I would've read the reviews before ordering food from here. Honestly, I haven't tried a Hawaiian BBQ place I didn't like, but it's also probably because I haven't come across too many of them. Since Ohana is really close by, we decided to give it a try. We phoned in the order and they said it would be ready in 15-20 minutes. We ordered the Seafood Combo, Surf and Turf, BBQ chicken and rice and a fish taco. The best thing was the taco. Everything just taste really oily and heavy. Customer service was also lackluster and their soda machine was broken. Well, it was worth a try. I'm just glad I didn't get raw meat like other Yelpers did. I'll just go to my usual Ono next time I need a Hawaiian fix.

thursday evening after a meeting in hayward...looking for a quick dinner pick up before heading home...finding ohana in a strip mall near the 92 entrance...mostly empty and little hesitant about ordering after reading some of the reviews...too tired and already inside, so placing an order for a loco moco...roughly $17 total paying after tax and tip...little over 5 minutes and name called...taking the food and noticing quite heavy...opening and finding a lot of food...2 fried eggs, 2 hamburger patties smothered in gravy...rice and macaroni salad...beef patties were freshly cooked and crumbling juicy...macaroni salad was pretty standard and no complaints...the food was okay and not bad for the price and portion...

Black color on cabbage. Not sure if this part is already molded. Unbelievable!!!

I don't wanna give any star for the review but the site forces me to do so. So I just put one. Food quality is very bad at this location nowadays. I ordered Lau Lau combo with pork. Lau Lau is very small, and the cabbage in the pork is not fresh. Not sure if it's already molded for some pieces. How can they use this kind of vegetables to cook a meal for customers? Gosh! It's unbelievable. The Lau Lau combo is more expensive than other Hawaiian BBQ in the area. The quality is not outstanding for the price, but also very bad inside. Macaroni salad is over cooked. Not good at all! Stay away from this place if you have other choices!!!

Went in toaday around 230 and got a plate of food and there is a cockroach in my food!!!

I come here a lot when they were cheaper and had special prices on some days. The food is ok here and I don't mind coming back again soon.

Do they have a seafood and bbq combo?

Yes we do. That would be our number 2 combo plate, Surf N’ Turf. It comes with Fried Panko Shrimp, Fried Island Fish, and a grilled BBQ Meat of your choice: BBQ Chicken, BBQ Beef, BBQ Short Ribs or BBQ Pork. Thank you.

The salted maple latte was just ok... sadly it looked better than it tasted. I wasn't a huge fan of their espresso as it left a very sour after taste, even with the sweet maple syrup it wasn't very pleasant. Good espresso should be balanced and coffee forward, and I didn't get that. Almond croissant was great, but I was a bit disappointed in their coffee. Ambience is great for studying or getting some work done.

Although the tofu was a little dry and lacked some flavor (had to use sriracha), the chicken banh mi was flavorful and well done, though there was quite a bit of chicken. We recommend ordering ahead since there is a good amount of people coming in each morning. They take phone and online orders. This is a nice sandwich spot and they have 3 round tables with 4 seats and 4 rectangle tables with 4 seats or so. There is plenty of seating to go around.

The space is peppered with some two or three person tables as well, with a small display shelf helping to delineate where the line to the cashier starts. Regarding the viet coffee, this one was particularly strong, with a definite higher proportion of coffee to condensed milk that doesn't offend but also risks being a bit TOO strong (wild to say that when all viet coffee at its core is strong). Overall, it's conveniently located, but I think I might prefer to go further south for something with a more balanced taste profile.
