UPDATED REVIEW what used to be OMG I can't wait for Ono, turned into oh no! I haven't been here in eons, and I thought tonight was the perfect occasion. I had a busy weekend, didn't feel like cooking, I was on this side of town, taking care of life stuff, and the fam Bam was off doing their own thing. The counter Customer Service was about as mediocre as the food. I wasn't greeted when I stepped up to the counter, and I just felt a little offputting. I cheerfully asked with the guy thought it might be super delicious tonight and was greeted with a shrug. OK then. When taking a quick glance at someone's plate at a table, not too far behind me, the Katsu that they were eating did not look good. So I opted for Bulgogi ribs. I used to absolutely love the mac salad, so I ordered more of the salad and less of the rice. I'd asked about the veggies, but the guy mentioned that they were closer to raw than anything and that just did not sound appealing. I realized when I went to grab my drink after I paid for my order, that the guy had not asked me if my order was to go or to dine in. So I popped over to the counter and just quickly mentioned that my order was to go any kind of growled a little bit and said that he made it to go. I kept thinking what if I had wanted to dine in?! The salad was so sadly disappointing. It definitely was not like it used to be, and I kind of picked through it in hopes of finding that flavor of yesteryear. The rice was under the beef and was dry and tasted actually very old. The beef... Lacked flavor, seasoning, and was pretty much as bland as meat could be. The actual fat tasted better and that wasn't that great. I'm so sad by this visit and the overall experience.

It's Hawaiian barbecue fast food. I really like this place. They serve the hot teriyaki sauce in the hot tongue Katsu sauce. It's always clean. You always have consistent meals. It's one of my favorite fast food places.

Skimpy skimpy skimpy. Won't be back here again.

Skimpy skimpy skimpy 15 min wait. $20 plate & drink got 1/3 of normal serving. This place sucks! I'd suggest going elsewhere.

I have been here couple of times and the food is not consistent. The service was decent and the atmosphere was fine. I ordered Kalua pork plate and it was not shredded pork as in the photos.

When in the mood for Hawaiian BBQ in my neck of the woods, I rotate between this Ono (Del Paso) and Tasty Hawaiian (Northgate). To each their own, but I would say portions at Tasty are bigger and slightly cheaper, and Tasty also does have items such as the loco moco, curry katsu and malasadas if that's what your tastebuds seek. This Ono is located right next to Chipotle in the same complex as Sprouts, Handel's, Lazi Cow, Pizza Guys, Jersey Mike's, etc. Opened in 2019 and is still a solid spot. My go-to is usually the spam musubi, and either the Chicken Combo (BBQ and Katsu) or the Chicken and Beef (BBQ Chicken and BBQ Beef), maybe throw in a Hawaiian Sun can as well. The short ribs are also a good choice. The Shrimp and Island White Fish combo is also a valid option during Lent if you observe/practice that. The macaroni salad is the best; you can even sub in a scoop of mac instead of a scoop of rice. Lots of seating for dine-in, with the surf/beach vibe decor. Fill up your to-go cups of teriyaki or katsu sauces (self-serve), located near the soda fountain. They also had a deal for Halloween, where if you came in costume, you could get a $5 Hawaiian BBQ Chicken Aloha Plate only on 10/31! Also had a social media giveaway if you posted an in-store selfie of said costume. The food is 'Ono indeed!

Their "kalua pig". My dog gets served better looking food than this boiled unsalted meat.

Outside of extremely long wait for food. First time was 45 minutes, second time was 20 minutes (probablu they had to catch the food first) I ordered the Kalua pig and they gave me some tasteless boiled pig chopped up and all fat. We brought it back and said this is not what we ordered and this was all fat. The girl took my plate, came back and said this is kalua pig. We replied with why is it not shredded and it's all fat. So they took all the fat off (half the portion) and then chopped it more. Oh and the other plate we ordered was a katsu bbq combo. It came with 3.5 pieces of katsu. Definitely not worth the money.

What kalua pig is supposed to look like
    Jordyn-Dallas F.

I come here because it's my comfort food and it reminds me of home. I ordered the kalua pig and katsu chicken combo plate and it took forever for it to even get out, then the kalua was cut in chunks and looked boiled, like they didn't even shred it which is like the whole point of kalua pig and the only reason I wanted to come. When I told them it's normally shredded and pointed to their picture they just took the chunks, chopped it up, and put it back in the plate. Still not shredded. No one said sorry or gave me any other options to fix what they did wrong. Didn't even end up eating the pork :| just the chicken. Honestly just upset because I liked coming here. I attached a photo of how it's supposed to look and how I got it.

May 27, 2023: I had to pick up an individual at the Sacramento International Airport and I was FAMISHED! So, I took a photo of a POV of Ono Hawaiian BBQ's exterior and entrance just for my memory's sake. FYI: The food is consistent with the Ono Hawaiian BBQ I've inhaled in Maui, Big Island, Oahu, Kauai but, not Lanai. Nothing is missing, nothing was added: Consistent.

This location is huge! There's plenty of seating inside. They had the perfect gal taking orders - she had the brightest smile and most welcoming attitude. I ordered the bbq & katsu mixed plate with the spam Musubi as my side. The meal was more than enough for my husband and I to share. The katsu was nice and crispy and the meat was still moist - my favorite item of the three. The bbq chicken was good too and the beef could've used a little more seasoning. My husband's spam Musubi were kind of poorly constructed. It didn't stay together after the first bite and there was much more seaweed than anything else. The rice to spam ratio was off too. It was a great lunch for my husband and I to have before we headed to the airport. It's located in a pretty busy shopping center too so grab some lunch while running errands!

Ono Hawaiian opened many new locations in the Sacramento area. This one at Natomas is one of the best ones I like. The workers here in this location are friendly and attentive. I like to come to this location even though sometimes I have to drive a little farther. The dining room is clean and comfortable. It is perfect if you're looking for a yummy, quick meal. The parking lot in this location is very easy to get parking space every time I'm here!

Right when you walk in, everyone was friendly and welcoming. It was a busy Saturday evening, but we were seated pretty quickly. Our waitress was also so friendly, and our food came out FAST and piping hot! In our past experiences at other crab boil restaurants, it can take forever just to get a table, let alone get your food. So we really appreciated how quickly everything came out here! Now, THE FOOD! My hubby and I both got the Dungeness crab with the mild Cajun & garlic butter seasoning. It came with potatoes and corn, and we also added a side of rice and the Cajun fries. The seasoning was SO good! It had plenty of flavor without being overly salty. The crab was delicious and cooked perfectly. And those Cajun fries?! They were super crispy and seasoned to perfection! The only thing I would have changed was that we weren't given any crab crackers or tools to help us get into the crab. We actually thought they didn't have any at first. We later asked and were provided with some, but it would have been nice if they were offered or brought out with our gloves and bibs since we ordered crab. Other than that, I really enjoyed our experience! I especially loved that the restaurant has a more relaxed atmosphere compared to some other crab boil spots. The seats were comfortable, the music wasn't extremely loud, and it still had a fun vibe while being quiet enough for us to actually have a conversation. Overall, I'm giving Captain Crab a 10/10! We'll definitely be back!

Staff just kept walking by and glancing over but did not seem to care. I asked several staff if I can get a towel. Finally the bus boy told me to just move to a different table. They left our first table and floor wet almost the entire time we were there. It was odd, as it wasn't busy at the time and they had plenty of staff. The food was also just ok. Very generous with the shrimp and sausage but the crab portion was pretty sparse and the crabs were salty and not fresh tasting. They were supposed to be 1lb ea but there was only 1 crab cluster with thin legs and the shrimp and sausage were probably a bit over. The corn on the cob was frozen corn not fresh. We also ordered a side of bread and it was half of a roll for $4 and a side of the spicy sauce was $7 (for a small ramekin maybe 3 oz?) The kids still enjoyed the experience but I don't think we will be back here.

It is a very casual setup, so do not expect an elevated dining experience. We ordered the FOB shrimp and the Chicken Katsu plate. The shrimp arrived a bit too sour and noticeably greasy for my taste. The Chicken Katsu was average and lacked the flavor and crispness I was hoping for. The macaroni and cheese that came with it was also quite dry, which made the plate feel incomplete. Service is minimal since you order at the counter and pick up your food yourself. I went in with high expectations and left feeling disappointed, especially considering how popular the place seems to be. That said, I am still open to giving it another try. There are a few other dishes on the menu that look promising, and I hope they will deliver a better impression on my next visit.

The menu changes depending on what they're making, but they have certain items that are pretty consistent. One of those is poke. I LOVE their poke here, they have their own seasoned poke mix with fresh fish, veggies and sauce and it is delicious. They offer it as nachos, a bowl, or loaded fries and while I'm tempted to try some of the other options the bowl is my go-to. The poke bowl is $15 and comes with rice with furikake as well as a good portion of poke. Like I mentioned, it's preseasoned and it delicious. The ingredients are fresh and I love their flavor combination. I would love if the bowl came with a scoop of mac salad, but with the portion at this price I'm happy to add it as a side. I ordered the spring rolls ($4) and it came with five pieces of crispy and flavorful fried spring rolls. Great value for the price. I also ordered the pork laulau ($14) and Musubi ($3) for my husband and the portions on these were also great. The musubi was hot and flavorful and they gave me some FOB sauce with the musubi that went surprising well together. The laulau plate had mac salad, rice, and the wrapped pork. The pork was fattier than some of the laulau I've had in Hawaii, but was flavorful and the whole plate was a perfect portion for the price. The team working here was very friendly and helped me get in and out with my to-go order pretty quickly. The food was packed with care and made it home and was still nice and hot after the drive. They use high quality to-go containers and line them with aluminum foil which is a nice touch. They also made sure the vents were open on the spring rolls so they'd stay crispy. They have plenty of seating inside, as well as some outdoor seating. This restaurant is a bit tucked away, but has plenty of parking. I will definitely be back, and I won't wait as long between visits, because the food is so good! Check out their instagram for specials.

The plaza is easy to navigate and while parking can be a bit tight, I've always been able to find a spot closeby. The team working here is really friendly and greet you as you enter. They have a desk on the left as you enter where you can check in for your reservation, request a table, or pick up to-go orders. I've mostly stopped in for take-out and love exploring the menu. Their mystery box is one of my favorites, and always satisfies a sushi craving. I've also dined in a few times and their servers are very friendly and attentive. My favorite thing to do is order family style so everyone can try different appetizers, specialty rolls, and pieces of fish. Although, if you're up for it the omakase experience is wonderful. The food is always high quality and delicious, and I feel like their prices are what you'd expect around the Sacramento area. It is a small restaurant so I recommend making reservations, especially if you have larger groups (over 4 people). Also, seats at the sushi bar tend to be popular, but it's so much fun to watch the chefs prepare the food and to be able to chat with them about what they're making. Check out their website and social media for seasonal items and special events, the ones I've been to have always impressed.
