If there were a way to give a negative rating, I would. Based on our experience, even one star feels overly generous. My mother wanted to treat my husband and me to a late lunch, and because we were looking for a good fish restaurant, we decided to try Skip's Fish and Chicken. We placed an online order for delivery that included a 3-piece fish meal with deep-fried pickles, two fish baskets (one with fried okra and prawns, the other with deep-fried pickles and mac and cheese), three fried corn-on-the-cobs, and three banana puddings. After spending nearly $150, most of the meal ended up in the trash. The biggest problem was the excessive amount of salt. Everything we tasted--except the banana pudding--was overwhelmingly salty. It seemed as though the food had been salted multiple times after frying. The fish, prawns, sides, and even the vegetables were so heavily seasoned that they were virtually inedible. We could only manage a bite or two of most items before having to stop eating them. The kitchen should simply taste the food before it leaves the restaurant because this level of oversalting is impossible to miss. The fried corn on the cob was particularly unpleasant. When I bit into it, a liquid unexpectedly gushed into my mouth. Combined with the mushy texture, it was revolting. Of everything we ordered, that item was by far the most off-putting. What makes this experience especially disappointing is that we genuinely wanted to like this restaurant. Instead, nearly every item we ordered was ruined by poor preparation and excessive salt. Food should be enjoyable, not something customers worry might make them sick. The only item I found edible was the banana pudding, and even that was mediocre. Unfortunately, this was one of the worst restaurant meals I have ever received, and I cannot recommend Skip's Fish and Chicken based on our experience. read more

I ordered 3 different meals. My shrimp Po boy had way too much sauce on it. They forgot my pickles. The shrimps are frozen out the box. I was not expecting that. The catfish filet was okay. I will not be back. read more

The food was alright, 7/10 on taste, but I ordered a cod dinner and they me whiting. If they were out of cod, I wouldn't have had a problem changing my order, but to just give me whiting like I don't know the difference is poor service. The lady at the front was nice, but I also seen how the cook didn't have on a hair net. At first sight, I didn't think this was gonna be that amazing. However, their fish is amazing. Taste fresh super crispy not greasy. It is absolutely wonderful. We had the cod, shrimp and oysters. My favorite was the cod. It was wonderfully battered and cooked. Amazing I can't even believe this came out out of what I would call a fast food type joint. it's family owned and operated. It was scarce inside, with couple employees, so we had plenty of time to comb through the menu. And it was clean too. Finally the choice's were rendered. One fish po'boy Skip's style, and one quick small basket of fish with fries. The food was served hot and tasted good. The po-boy bread was good. The choice of style you have is: Skip's style - coleslaw, tartar sauce and Skip's sauce. Traditional style - lettuce, tomato, pickle, tartar sauce & Skip's sauce. This place is so generous with their portions & DANG do they know how to season food! The raspberry lemonade slushie is perfect & tangy on hot summer today. I got the fried shrimp basket which comes with two sides for 14$ honestly not bad at all with how generous they are with portions. My boyfriend got fried pickles & the chicken sandwich (he loves this place he's been here more than me) Can't believe it took us a year of living down the street to try this place out. I will start by saying I'm not much of a fast fried food kinda girl but I 100% will keep coming back to this restaurant for just that! We went shortly after they opened so the restaurant was very clean, there was a few people there before us but the young lady at the front was quick to service us. I ordered the loaded fries and my husband the catfish. I was only able to eat half of mine and was grateful to be able to bring some home for later. Recently was craving some fish and didn't know of many places locally to try. Yelp recommended this one and I'm so happy they did! I always get the catfish plate with fries and five pieces of catfish or the mixed plate with four shrimp and three pieces of catfish. The food always has flavor, the service is always fast & friendly and they've earned a new customer! Brought my friend here and now even he is always saying when we going to go get some more catfish. The chicken here was very juicy. They have chicken, wings, fish, shrimp, and oysters. The skip sauce I liked. But it definitely has a taste that I don't think would be desired by all. We had the chicken tenders dipped in Louisiana hot sauce with fries. They have red velvet cake here as well, but we didn't try it. Good to know though if you have a sweet tooth. I also liked that they offered bottled, canned, and fountain drinks. Also, service was great here. I had high hopes for this place and really wanted to support it because it's minority owned and they are just starting out. But if they do not change anything, they will be out of business soon. First off, it's very expensive for what you get (see pics). Second, the sides (corn and beans/rice) were super salty it's uneatable. I am one of those that will try to eat something even if it's no good coz I hate waste. But their sides were super salty, I feel I was going to get sick if I ate them.
