It was my first time visit and May's suggestion was a good decision. Located in North Natomas Town Center shopping plaza so there was plenty of parking. Nice, cozy, clean place with several dining tables. It was early dinner so there was no crowd yet. I ordered a teriyaki combo plate with teriyaki chicken which is served with mixed tempura, pot sticker, salad and steamed rice. Also served with miso soup. May ordered a teriyaki salmon combo plate. First time coming here. We initially came for the donut shop right next door but decided to walk in for lunch. Best decision ever. The owners were very polite, and very quick to getting food served. I've eaten the food here for over a decade at this point and I have to say point blank the food is not good. It's not bad, but it's not good. The non-sushi items are bland and greasy. Their house salad is the old iceberg with the world's thinnest thimbleful of vinaigrette. They skimp on the meat and overpack the rice. Their menu is incredibly confusing in the way their in-store menu doesn't explain the difference between the combo plate, the rice bowl, the noodle plate. I get that it's affordable Japanese food for the area, but there has to be better options. It's also not nothing the amount you pay and it's disappointing to receive food this quality. I just wish they could do a decent teriyaki meal option that actually tastes good, and yet they get away with slim portions of gristly chicken, little to no sauce (which is too one note sweet), and way too much rice. Lunch time and looking for somewhere new to try. Read the reviews by others from Yelp so decided to stop by and try it. They have a wide selection of sushi rolls, they sell ramen now, and they have rice bowls. After looking over the menu I decided to order the #1 bento box. The #1 bento box comes with salad, gyoza, rice, chicken, plus a California roll. All of it was very fresh and flavorful for $10.50. If you are looking for hipster trendy vogue food with wait service...keep moving because this ain't it. The menu has tons of options. Making a decision strained my brain. They have 45 types of sushi rolls. You heard right. "45". Plus they have udon,ramen, and teriyaki. Ya. But no kids menu choices. The teriyaki comes in plate or combo offering. Get this...the menu describes that the plates are served with white rice (which is so darn fluffy), green salad, steam veg, and orange slice. Hmmm...but my plate usually comes with steamed bean sprouts, I suppose they consider that a veg. The bean sprouts are layered under the protein which is ladled with the teriyaki sauce. If you dine in, they plate the plates and combos in a bento box. Love that, it adds a bit of dining charm. Oh but let me get back on track and tell you about that sauce. It is just how I like it! It is not sweet, thick , or viscous. No HFCS. It is light tasting and fluid. Our family went there tonight. No one was in there when we arrived but when we left there were a few dining and a couple to-go orders. The bento my daughter got CA roll and gyoza she said was good. I have been coming to this place for years now, since I went to Inderkum High School. I am allergic to masago (fish eggs) and this is the only sushi place that does a good job of being clean enough to not spread the masago to my sushi. Usually restaurants will say there is no masago but it transfers from the cutting board area of the knife. Never had that problem with this place, lets hope I didn't just jinx myself. The teriyaki bowls and noodles are also very good as well as the tempura! The employees are always nice and the location is clean. I'm originally from Natomas and have always loved this place. Been going for 12+ years. I now reside in Stockton. Currently 8 months pregnant and have been craving this place for some time now. I'm unable to just drive an hour away to fulfill my cravings, however my husband just so happened to be working up in Yuba City so I begged him to make a pit stop on his way home. Ordered 3 noodle plates with no veggies for me (figured I'd stock up, don't judge lol). There was no teriyaki sauce on any of it? Can't even taste a hint of teriyaki sauce, which is the whole reason the plate is delicious and desirable. Not a single place out there that comes remotely close this place's recipe. Just super disappointed. Chicken breast wasn't breast meat either. Hate to spend almost $40 at place to not get what you've been craving. It's barely even edible. Combo is served with rice, green salad, steam veggies, 2 shrimp tempura, 4 vegetable tempura and 2 gyoza (pot sticker)... that's a lot of food for only $11.69! Daughters each got sushi and came served in one platter which they shared: Samurai Roll, Crunch Roll, and Spider Roll. The girls were happy and cleaned out that sushi platter. The place wasn't full while we dined in but there were a lot of customers who came in and ordered food to go. Food is ordered at the counter and they serve it to your table. The restaurant is clean. No sushi bar. Small seating/dining area. The restaurant is between Quickly and the donut shop and a few doors down is Fire Wings. This place is closed on Sundays. To be honest, it's not the most authentic, but the prices are very decent and the rolls are giant hunks of delicious imitation crab meat, AND with a name like Teriyaki maki I'm not going in expecting to be in Tokyo. We came in for some quick grub (partner had the hankering for rolls), but we were completely enticed by the generous portions given for the teriyaki bowl so we got that too. The rolls, as said prior, were all delicious, though the wasabi didn't have a lot of kick and the ginger's flavor was rather bland, but $5 a giant cali roll is just amazing. The teriyaki chicken bowls were okay; the chicken had that nice charred, smoky flavor, but was also borderline dry. The teriyaki sauce itself was a corn starchy glob of sugar, which I ended up avoiding. Overall, not the place you want to go for authenticity or flavor, but fair place for Americanized sweet "asian" food and cali rolls due to portion size and price. read more

I had no idea there was another sushi place so close to where I work in Natomas. They have a variety of fast casual Japanese style dishes from teriyaki, bentos, noodles and sushi. They actually have a rather large sushi menu, so there's plenty to choose from. The rolls do seem to be on the slightly smaller side, but you can get their BOGO deal and get 2 rolls for $16. Will definitely be back soon. It's busy during the afternoon and evenings, parking wise in the plaza, but parking isn't too hard to find nearby. read more

SPIDER ROLL NOT RECOMMENDED Food here is pretty subpar for the price. I had a spider roll that was large in size, but only because the batter for the soft shell crab was absolutely massive. Inside the batter was a very small portion on crab - greasy fried batter taste far overwhelmed the soft shell crab. Additionally the seaweed was so tough it was impossible to eat without breaking eat bite apart. Rice was very thick. Edamame was decent and well priced. The ambiance is bright, clean and cheerful but the soda machine or refrigerator has a random long loud hum that definitely gives you a headache. Eat quick. I got the kings and Alaskan roll, these rolls are heavy on the cooked salmon and it was pretty good, i spent 28 after tip on them and I got what I paid for. So I am in Natomas and am crazy hungry and wanting something yummy since I had to shell out a ton of money for something I didn't really want. I checked this place and saw it had 4 stars, so it piqued my interest. I walk in and it's ok, not very impressive but it's not a dive. I look at the picture menu for the sushi rolls and decide on two spicy ones. The sushi doesn't take a ton of time to come out and it actually tastes ok. The sushi is not the freshest, but it's better than supermarket quality, hence the 3 stars. The sauces and tastiness of the tuna drown out the lack of quality sushi, so its average. This place also serves cooked food items and even has signs saying Ramen is available. Soda, condiments, and utensils are self serve. Where to start? I'm in town for work. So I came searching for a descent restaurant to eat at. I came across this little, what I thought might be, a gem.
