It's been a while! Onoya Ramen fulfilled my ramen and gyoza craving with shishito peppers as a bonus.
Tonkatsu Black Tonkatsu Miso Came to Onoya Ramen for a quick meal. Dedicated parking out back. Clean spacious table seating. Brightly lit interior. Wait staff greeted us quickly. No reservations needed. Overall the noddle soup was warm not as hot as I would have expected Good noodles. But one bowl of noodles was a bit clumped together not fully separated. Needed to be cooked a bit longer Garlic chips added texture but they did taste a bit burned. Broth flavor was good for both Char sui was thick and meaty with good fat balance Mushrooms added complexity to the bowl One POINT deducted! The menu clearly shows two halves of an egg. IE an entire egg. See images. Both bowls came with only one half of an egg. Clearly mis leading.
This is just the Spicy Miso Tonkotsu Ramen. Oh wow! This was the only ramen I tried so far here, but it's really delicious. The pork was thick and flavorful. Might be my favorite one so far as of now!! Broth was creamy and flavorful. But spicy! I might tone down the spice if I can next time. But it was really good. IMO, The eggs can prob use more flavor. I like my eggs where It really takes in the marinade while still being jammy. But good enough. Noodles are sun noodles I think. It's alright for me, but since everything else was good, I don't mind.
Grabbed takeaway from Onoya Ramen - the OG location in Kapahulu. Ordered via Toast local app...used my rewards and paid $4. Gyoza Curry was ready before stated time hut I waited to get it at the estimated ready time. Curry had some spiciness to it....nice and thick with pieces of beef and carrots. Gyoza was house made and fried crispy. Excellent. Just the right amount of rice.
Three words: Pork Cutlet Curry. That's all I need in this life. I hope they stay in business forever because I can't stand the idea of not being able to come to Ono-ya to grab this dish. Their curry is thick and seasoned to perfection! This is literally all I think about when I'm hungry. Lol! Service is ALWAYS on point, friendly and quick whether you dine in or take out. Just how I like my service no matter where I go. This location is also very convenient bc I literally work a hop and skip away from Ono-ya.
I came here again, no notes look at my past reviews. Its solid and their chicken katsu curry and ramen combo is perfect and has amazing value
Went again, and the Tonkotsu Tan Tan Men was probably the best ramen I ever had ever ever ever. Sooo good My kids both still love their shoyu ramen and hub loved his spicy tonkotsu. Will make the drive when craving ramen 10000/10
I came here for the vegan ramen and went to this location in particular because it had a higher rating. When I walked in, I knew I had made a mistake. The place is a dump. There are half-destroyed chairs everywhere near the entrance and the dining room and kitchen are a mess too. Wet grossness all over the kitchen floor, a visibly dirty mop bucket, a dirty soup pot on the floor, serving stand is super dirty, the employee uniforms are dirty, etc. Also, one of the walls is falling apart. But I have POTS and needed to eat. My bowl came slightly dirty. My ramen tasted off (especially the broth) but I ate most of it because I needed food. I couldn't finish the noodles, though. It wasn't very spicy, either. I won't come back, and I hope I won't get food poisoning.
It was raining and we had little kids with us - we decided to enjoy a take out meal from this place. OMG! It was the best decision! We enjoyed the crispy rice with ahi tuna and also the vegan ramen - which we ordered a spicy version - LOVED IT! All the ramens were incredible- you must try this place if you are craving some amazing ramen. Hope to go in person to provide input on the service and ambiance/ vibe.
This is a great spot for ramen. The restaurant is a little small, but I kinda prefer it that way. The staff is very friendly and helpful when ordering. The ramen is always cooked perfectly, and the egg is always just soft enough and a little runny how I like it. It's a great place to come when craving warm ramen. I love leaving with the warm soup belly feeling. It's definitely worth a try.
The food was definitely a hit. Not everything hit it out of the park, but the main players definitely made an impact. The appetizers were a hit or miss. I know that they seemed to be a bit short staffed, I just wish the execution was a little better. There were at least 2 tables of two that came right after we were seated; but by the time our orders were taken, those two tables already received their food. I was turned off by that, but was not going to let that negatively affect my dining experience. The ambience was bustling, and the energy was high. There were only two servers, and they tried their best, I just wish there was another server or two to allow for the patrons to get the full experience. Other than that, the food was great. I'm hoping they figure out how to execute better with either more staff, or a better system. It's not the servers fault.
Onoya was offering a BOGO ramen special this week from Wed-Fri to celebrate their 5th anniversary, so we braved the pouring rain and flood conditions to come for lunch. It was a good thing I used the Yelp app to join their waitlist, because it seemed like half the people in the area decided to come here for lunch. It was a 25-40 minute wait online, so the timing was perfect for the drive from Manoa. There were at last 10 people already there waiting, but at least the tables were turning petty quickly. We were seated right away and could tell the vibe was that it was a super busy day. We put in our orders and were served within 5-6 minutes. A couple of Classic ramen, a Black ramen, a Tan tan ramen, a pitch of beer, gyoza, and takoyaki. The ramen was piping hot, creamy, and so satisfying good. They're were 3 of is, so the 4th one was to split between us; but we ended up taking most of it home, along with the extra broth. The service was fairly fast and efficient, even for a "slammed" busy day, and the Ramen was excellent, as usual.
We found this cute ramen spot on the way to Diamond head and it was a slam dunk. They had an awesome lunch deal for 19$. A ramen, gyoza, and a small curry bowl. You can't find that anywhere out here. They have kids ramen sets for like 10$ that are perfect for the little ones. Lots of parking and a zippy's across the street if you wanted to grab some plates to go before heading to DH. Service was fast and the whole meal was great value. Highly recommend!
Chose the place only because it was near my location and the fam was hungry and it was late in the day. Service: Put our name on the list (Party of 5) via Yelp stating our arrival time/# in party. As soon as we arrived, we were called within 5 minutes. Place was also packed at the time but their operations was efficient. Servers were attentive and pleasant during the ordering process and refilled our drinks without even asking. Food turnaround was fast too. 5 of 5 stars. Food: The family ordered the Tonkotsu Special, Classic with sides of karaage and calamari. The Special (which I had) was very flavorful, loved it! Feedback from my family was also positive. Karaage and calamari were great too. 5 of 5 stars Overall: Discovered due to proximity but sure glad we did. Parking is very limited so you might have to park near residential during busy days/times. Make a reservation ahead of time but be mindful to adhere to it as well. Will be back when in the area! read more
We came for a late night dinner after Halloween. I had this on my list to try so was happy to mark it off. We had about an hour before closing and there was only another couple in there. The place is small but not too small and there were about six workers total. Parking is same as Papa Johns and a laundromat. They have an extensive menu and what I really like is that they have vegan options. I am pescatarian but I appreciate the vegan menu. I ordered the vegan tan tan and it was absolutely delicious. It was very flavorful with lots of different textures. I wouldn't 100% order this again. The Mr had tonkatsu spicy miso and enjoyed it. He also enjoyed the gyoza and chicken karaage. Service was very good and attentive, but not sure if it was because we were one of the last ones there. There is a small parking lot that because we went around 9pm, had availability. read more
Onoya Ramen is conveniently located in the Kapahulu area near Zippys. It has a small parking lot in the front. I came here for lunch with some of my work friends. There are many, many different selections of Ramen just to suit about anybody, including shoyu, tonkatsu, black garlic, spicy, Yuzu, etc. They have a lunch special from 11 AM to 2 PM which includes your Ramen of choice +2 small sides (goyza, udon, chicken). Lunch specials run between 17 and $20, but are very filling. I had made a reservation for lunch, but they weren't that busy during lunch, and they accept walk-ins. We were promptly seated on arrival, we ordered, and our food came within 10 minutes. Service was very fast and friendly, and the Ramen was excellent. Definitely would return to try some other Ramen selections. read more

We came here twice on our 5 day trip because we couldn't stop thinking about it. The broth is so flavorful and not too oily and thick but also not watered down. Noodles were nothing special but still great! Chasu meat was soft and I loved it! The calamari didn't look as good as others i've seen but it was great! Staff was very kind and always checked in on us, the place is HOT inside though. Might be normal for locals but coming from a city with lots of snow and cold, I was dying in here haha, especially eating hot soup. Sitting next to the AC helped, and there are fans around the place but damn I was sweating more in here than outside in the sun. read more
We were referred here from a friend. They have a small parking lot shared with 3 or 4 other businesses. The ambiance was nice, clean, and modern. The staff was also friendly and attentive. Although, it seemed like they were working at a fast pace. We had the Tonkotsu Tan Tan Men and the Tonkotsu Black. The Tan Tan had a nice mild spice with a well balance portion of all the different ingredients. It was the perfect choice for me. The Black Tonkotsu had a great flavor to it and very flavorful. Everything tasted fresh. We also had the gyoza which was just okay. The pastry wrap was a little thin but the gyoza was good. We were in and out in no time. Amazing food as always. We ordered the char siu appetizer and calamari. So yummy and fresh ingredients. We also ordered the curry ramen and the tonkatsu tan tan ramen. These are our favorites. I love a good ramen place! We had a reservation at 9pm on a Friday night, and it was pretty full even this late at night, so definitely recommend making one in advance. We ordered some karage, agedashi tofu, and fried shrimp. The karage pieces were big, but what was really good was the aioli it came with. The tofu and shrimp were decent, nothing amazing. What I really loved was their tonkatsu black ramen. Beware of the spice level! We got level 2, and that was moderately spicy. It goes up to 5. The broth was rich and garlicky, which I loved. The garlic crisps was a nice touch. My husband ordered the tonkatsu tan tan, and he agreed he liked the tonkatsu black better. The tan tan had sesame paste, but lacked that spicy kick in it. Coming from CA, I thought the pricing was more than fair, especially the appetizers. Ramen was solid, so definitely would recommend! read more

Onoya Ramen is my best ramen experience to date. Don't get me wrong, I am not the most experienced ramen judge, but based on everyplace I have been on the mainland, I rate this place above the rest! As I write this, I'm struggling with the fact that I can only get this in Hawaii. The staff was fun to order (and reorder) from and somehow we were able to be seated without any wait. Inside, you can hear everyone at neighboring tables talking about how much they're enjoying their ramen. Including my group. The Tankatsu Tan Tan Man was incredible. Every ingredient cooked to perfection and the the broth is next level. Pro tip: add the Tontoru Char Siu (I think it's a center cut pork belly) to upgrade your already excellent bowl of Ramen! read more

I recommend. It was my first time here and I enjoyed my experience and the food. Menu has a variety of options and combo sets. Noodles were cooked well and soup broth was tasty and delicious. We ordered a cucumber for appetizer and that was okay, probably won't get it again (wasn't bad, wasn't great). Staff were nice and place is clean. There's a parking lot in the front. We went on a week night and we had a short wait. You can go online to check wait time before heading to restaurant. read more

Parking can be a challenge as the lot in front is very small. Spicy tuna crispy rice - this is a great appetizer to have since it's a small. It came with 2 pieces. The crispy rice was perfect Tonkotsu classic ramin - the both was delicious and the noddles were just the right texture. I really enjoyed it! The staff was very nice! I would definitely come here again. Gyoza looks good too!! read more

This place always has solid food, my favorite is the classic tonkatsu. You can do add ons such as egg, extra veggies, etc... Service is pretty quick, all the food comes out fast. They have parking lot with a good amount of stalls but always pretty full. If you go during dinner, there may be a wait so you can reserve a table ahead of time. read more

This is definitely a very popular ramen place as lines can get a bit long during peak hours. They allow reservations or you can order takeout which makes it more convenient to eat great ramen without having to stand in line for a long time. I really love the decorations inside since they're so creative. Restaurant service really helped elevate our dining experiences at other busy ramen places, but the service at Onoya was a bit meh. Our server seemed pretty rushed with our orders. On the bright side, food arrived so quickly. The broth was a bit salty, but it was still rich and full of flavor. I loved the little pieces of the garlic topping and the egg was nicely marinated. This is definitely one of the top ramen spots in Oahu not to be missed. read more

Super easy to make a reservation, and the staff were so nice -- fast service and really chill about customizing our order. The agedashi eggplant was simple and comforting, just like how it should be. The asari clams were super flavorful, and the portion was really fair for the price. The ramen hit the spot. Chashu pork was melt-in-your-mouth good, the broth was rich and creamy, and the noodles were on point. Honestly, everything was delicious. Highly recommend! read more
The owners of the former Sanoya on King St. have rebranded under new name Onoya on Kapahulu. It's the same great tasting ramen and gyoza. Their gyozas are always fresh and never frozen. Unfortunately, today their pan fryer for the gyoza was down. All their gyozas had to be deep fried. It was nice and crispy, but I still prefer for them to be pan fried. We came and got two of their lunch specials. I got the Tonkotsu Black with a bowl of rice topped with mochiko chicken and three pieces of gyoza for $18. The hubby doesn't eat pork. He got the Shoyu Ramen, which is chicken based, with a bowl of rice topped with mochiko chicken and three pieces of gyoza for $18. The food was on point. The ajitama was just a tad overcooked. The flavor of the broth was delicious. I loved the fried garlic pieces in my broth. The pork was flavorful and tender. The furnishing needs a bit of a facelift. I noticed that the majority of the chairs were peeling. The tables were banged up. read more

BELIEVE THE YELP TOP 100 HYPE! Adela's Country Eatery, Waffle and Berry, and now, Onoya Ramen are Oahu establishments that made it on Yelp's Top 100 for a reason! They are seriously amazing! These are all my favorite restaurants! I vaguely remember first seeing Onoya when they operated a stall at the last Shirokiya dining hall at Ala Moana Center shortly before that one pandemic. I've only returned to their Kapahulu location after hearing about their Yelp Top 100 achievement! Because of Onoya Ramen's immense popularity with its 2024 Yelp Top 100 status, Yelp reservations are a must. My husband, cousin, and I ended up with a Saturday, 8:00pm reservation that we booked that early afternoon. Onoya's wall art is modern and sassy, and that art is applied on their disposable chopstick wrappers! Diners can customize their ramen--noodle thickness, firmness, broth spice level, and toppings. Since this was my first time at their brick and mortar and I was full from a day's worth of eating, I went safe with the classic tonkotsu. My husband ordered the tan tan ramen and my cousin ordered the spicy tonkotsu. For an appetizer, we ordered the Spicy Tuna Crispy Rice. Service and wait times for food weren't long, considering the Saturday night crowds. Our appetizer was seriously delicious and crispy, whetting our appetites! My classic tonkotsu broth was full flavored and unique! I can say it is tied with my other favorite ramen spot on Oahu, Wagaya Ramen! Hubby's tan tan ramen broth was slightly spicy and actually tastes like freshly boiled peanuts! It's not like tan tan broth topped with chopped peanuts as an afterthought. The broth reminded me of my childhood, eating boiled peanuts with my mom! I didn't try my cousin's spicy tonkotsu, but he inhaled his bowl. My hubby, cousin, and I recently returned from Japan trips, and Onoya comes really close to Japan's ramen! Prices are reasonable for the quality you get in Hawaii. This place is busy and packed...oh well. Onoya deserves the Yelp Top 100 honor with its unique recipes. Don't gate-keep this place. Support local and make those reservations! read more

First time eating here, always on a hunt for a good ramen place. The atmosphere in the restaurant was great, their food was delicious. Especially their appetizers as you can see in the picture. This place is great if you have a large group but the ramen was just okay to us. Their AC wasn't working well so it was also very hot. I enjoyed their Takoyaki though! The bathrooms were pretty filthy and my husband lost his appetite after going to the bathroom. read more

Onoya Ramen pretty good overall and I liked its convenient location. The noodles are bouncy and the char siu was decadent and flavorful. However, I was disappointed that the ramen did not come out hot, it was more lukewarm. Here's everything I ordered: Chicken Karaage: Delicious! The skin was so crispy and the inside was juicy. My only complaint was that it was a bit too salty and the portion was small for the price point. Black Tonkotsu Ramen: This one was really heavy and oily, but the flavor was definitely there. The broth was also on the saltier side, I drank two entire cups of water before I left TanTan Ramen: I liked this! It had a tiny kick and the sesame paste was spot on. It could've been spicier though. Service was okay, some workers were definitely nicer than others. We noticed a piece of Karaage was missing and the staff helped us get another piece. Their food was overall great! Their regular tonkotsu and garlic tonkotsu both tasted amazing - so much umami an so satisfying! And surprisingly their curry was pretty good too! However the chicken karaage wasn't good. It wasn't crispy on the outside and not juicy inside either. Skip that. When we went it wasn't crowded and we just had to wait 5 minutes for a table to clear before we were seated. The restaurant was pretty spacious and could definitely accommodate a larger party and kids. The service was pretty friendly too. The environment was well-lit. Our son loves chicken karaage, so the fact that theirs wasn't good at all, it might keep us from coming back, given that we also have a lot of choices around. read more
No. 95 out of 100 places to eat on Yelp of 2024! It's crazy to think that out of all of the many restaurants throughout the US and Canada, Onoya Ramen was recognized as a top 100 place to eat! And as if that wasn't enough to make you want to dine here, in celebration of their 3rd anniversary, Onoya Ramen is having a BOGO deal from Feb 19 - 22, 2024. We've dined here once before and I remembered leaving happily satisfied. So my wife and I were excited for this BOGO deal. For any first time diners, the interior is cute and small but can hold a surprisingly decent amount of tables. With it being a small space, if it gets crowded (like tonight), you'll find it loud and tough to have a conversation. Probably not the most ideal spot for a first date. Tonight was crowded probably because of that BOGO deal. As far as food goes, my wife ordered the Tonkatsu Spicy Ramen and I ordered the Seabura (Pork Fat) Ramen, which was the Chef's Special for this month of February. Both ramen arrived to our table pretty quick and we dug right in! Each ramen had a distinct and unique flavor to them. The Tonkatsu Spicy ramen had such a nice kick to it and the spice wasn't overpowering. The Seabura Ramen's broth was rich and creamy. It was simple yet delicious. My wife and I probably finished both of our bowls in 20 minutes! Onoya Ramen is a small little ramen joint in Kapahulu, yet despite its small size, it's been given some big achievements! The service is great and their food packs tons of flavor. Whether you're from the area or not, it's definitely worth trying it out! read more
Super popular Ramen place in Waikiki area. Must try!! You can join the waitlist on Yelp which I highly recommend. Staff were outstanding. Service was fast and efficient. It's not a huge place. Very clean. Great atmosphere. I ordered the Tonkotsu Tan Tan Men 9/10. It's not you it's me. The ground pork was not it for me personally. Maybe because it was sweet, idk. Other than that hands down a very great ramen choice. The broth was rich and creamy. Spicy. Very flavorful. I added corn to mine because I love corn. Next time I'll make sure to ask for no ground pork. And I'll try to remember to add the black garlic. read more

My wife and I visited this place at the King St. location, along with family and friends. This was our first time at this place as it was highly recommended by family members here. We had the Shoyu Ramen, the price was great along with the size and portions. Everything was so delicious, the broth, the noodles etc. The service was excellent for such a small place, and they were really friendly and nice. read more

Small no frills ramen shop with decently fast service. Walked here for lunch after the zoo with the kids, worth the walk - though far from most things on the strip. Most bowls are ~$15. Noodles were fresh and chewy, and the yuzu shio broth was refreshing. I liked that it came with chicken instead of pork since I don't eat pork! Nice variety of menu items, kiddo enjoyed chicken karaage and gyoza. Would come back if I'm nearby, there's not a whole lot else in the area walking distance. read more
"Let's RAMEN-ticize our taste buds." The sun is raging yet this location is so convenient when you're doing laundry nearby so lunch was served here. Upon entering we were greeted by this young guy and seated us immediately. He's prompt and kind too. It was past lunch time so the eatery is not that busy. The dining area is not that big but t'was cleaned. Prices are reasonable and overall t'was pretty good. FOOD Shio Ramen ($14) - transparent soup base that has a lighter chicken broth flavored. It was seasoned just right and flavor was rich. Toppings include chicken meat, half boiled egg, some veggies and seaweed. My palate love it so much and I do enjoy this bowl. Yum! Takoyaki ($7.50) - these fried octopus balls are so good. The umami flavor pairs well with the tender octopus. Savory good and was cooked perfectly. The toppings served did enhance the flavor making it more enjoyable to munch. Calamari ($7.50) - crunchy from the outside and tender from the inside. The only thing's missing is a lil bit of seasoning. Kinda taste bland but was okay. I mean nothing really special on this one. Another good lunch wrapped! Pretty much love the food that we ordered. Lunch specials here are so good! For $19 you get a ramen and a side I can't even remember what we all got but everything was so good! My boyfriend's chicken katsu was my favorite "side" and I'd definitely get that next time. Great service and super friendly staff! Easy parking in the lot or on the street for free read more

The Ramen here is just flat out amazing. The spicy one actually has a hint of sweetness that makes the broth out of this world. The service is top notch with timely check ins for water refills. Seating is pretty spacious too. There's a wait typically but it seems quite normal here for top restaurants like this. read more

Ono-Ya Ramen for lunch! My friend and I ordered spicy tonkotsu tan tan men, chicken katsu curry, fried squid legs, gyoza and char siu don. The noodle is perfectly chewy like mochi & the broth flavor is on spot! Everything is perfectly seasoned. I asked the server if the word "friend" was misspelled on their wallpaper as it was spelled "freind." He laughed and we both agreed that it may have been either done unintentionally and left for marketing purposes, lol. Their parking location is small but once you get into the restaurant, you'll find it nice and cozy. It has the nice family restaurant vibe as it wasn't too big but not too small either. The price is comparable with other restaurants. You definitely should check them out. It won't dent your pocket specially if you go with more friends so you can share and be able to taste everything on their menu. read more

Do they have udon too or just ramen?
I do not believe that they have udon--only ramen options, for noodle dishes.
Do all your both have MSG or Disodium or glutinate?
When I checked with them, they indicated there is no MSG in the vegan broth. (I can't speak for the rest.)
