I love this place for their tan tan and curry ramen! The service is always fast and servers are kind. There was no wait and we were seated at a table. There are table and counter seats available. This visit we got the wakame tan tan, fish wonton tan tan ramen, and popcorn chicken. I love that the wakame tan tan comes with the egg and the broth is so flavorful! The popcorn chicken was crispy but the sauce was not my preference for flavor. Definitely the spot to get a good bowl of ramen!

I've been here several times over the years. Despite being in the mall, it's on the outside ring and is very easily accessible without having to traverse the mall. Plenty of parking right out front and can always get a seat. The ramen is reliably good, but nothing special. I usually get the spicy tan tan with char siu. Good portion size and the broth has good flavor. The meat is hearty, but I wish it was a little more tender. Overall, it's good value. But I don't like how they charge you more for each level of spice and the "free" level 1-2 is not spicy. I also don't like that they charge you $3 for an egg. Come on... Other than that, it's a decent spot and good for groups. Definitely recommend if you're looking for ramen near ala Moana. I've never been to the other locations.

Good food and quick service! I used to come here a lot years ago, and it still is great! The charsiu is the best here. I always recommend the shoyu ramen, but their goma wings are great too.

How can you don't give them a 4-5 stars. Excellent services. Very nice drink and good tasty ramen with minimal waiting time. The restaurant is very clean with many staffs. They have a very cute bar too. I just recently hurted my back, so I can't really enjoy the bar. But they have many regular tables and chairs. Come if you visit the Mall, it is just right next to the food court. Very Easy parking.

As luck would have it, we were able to take the last available table. But our good fortune was just beginning. We were hungry and once we'd decided, we were able to order and start eating in under five minutes. Great things can come in plain wrappers and this is one. The ambiance is authentic--meaning you could be in Tokyo and have the same experience. The food was delicious. One bowl of Seafood Tan Tan--with tender, succulent, morsels, and one bowl of Char Siu Tan Tan--also made to perfection. Each plussed-up with an Ajitama Egg. The noodles and veg were excellent. Milk tea to drink--a wonderful accompaniment. All-in-all, an outstanding experience.

I love Goma Tei - it's gonna be the Won Ton Tan Tan Ramen every time for me. Broth is so sesame flavorful and the portion is just the right amount. I would love to have an ajitama egg but it doesn't come with it, but you do have have the option to add on. Still got my share of vegetables too! The wontons are delicious and they fill it up with savory pork and shrimp I believe. My friend got the curry udon. I've never ventured out of the goma broths, but this was tasty too. We didn't realize they were closing soon, but they still sat us down and our food came out fast. Of course we were apologetic when we found out and tried to do what we could to not stay too long. They were nice and told us not to rush, still being attentive and even refilling our waters! Seating is casual with countertops or tables. Tends to get packed during peak dinner hours. Overall clean and comfortable.

Goma tei is always consistent. It's always a safe choice if you want a good meal, especially ramen. Hard to do large parties as they don't usually combine tables but if you're okay sitting at different tables then it works! Service is always efficient. However, I did not enjoy the tonkatsu tan tan as much as I hoped. I think I was missing some sort of flavor on the tonkatsu besides the ramen broth, but the tonkatsu was still cooked well. Around the table my friends enjoyed their meals. The chicken curry was reviewed as "alright" and would've probably ordered chicken katsu curry instead as the chicken drumsticks weren't as good as expected.

While there are a couple locations around the island, we usually find ourselves at the Kahala or Ala Moana locations. Goma Tei has always been a solid location for ramen, rice bowls, and more. We decided to go to the Ala Moana location, which was pretty crowded when we went. We waited for about 10-15 minutes outside, where it can feel pretty warm. When we got inside, it sounded chatty but not overbearing. We sat at the bar, which was clean. There were also a few tables around the restaurant, which is about a medium size. The people working were quick and nice. I decided to order the shoyu ramen, which was a good portion. The flavor was good without being too salty or not salty enough. The pork and veggies could maybe have used a bit more salt but everything was pretty good. Next time, we will get the gyoza, which is usually pretty good from Goma Tei!

Our go to Ramen place that's located in the mall. This is a place I go all the time and I feel like the quality standard is always the same so you know what you're getting. Or go to is the spicy Tanton level two spice with it on the side service is pretty quick normally it's not very crowded here unless it's on the weekend or dinner time. They have a single bar style seat, seating for small parties and then also tables for larger parties. Some locations also offer up separate breakfast menu, but this location only has Ramen, appetizers.

Truffle ramen, kind of bland. Chicken not tender but egg was good
    Vivian U.

I wonder if my expectations were set a bit high by previous reviews and Ala Moana? I was not impressed by the flavor of some of the ramen broth, and we were hungry. We tried the shoyu, tan tan, and truffle. The tan tan soup based was fine, but the truffle soup based was quite bland. It felt diluted, and for the price I was expecting a lot more. Protein wise the tonkotsu was fine but the chicken in the truffle ramen was a bit tough. I wasn't too fond of the meat ball texture either. All in all, I might check out other nearby ramen options next time.

The sauce to dip the noodles in was good. It was flavorful, salty, and sweet. My wife had a bowl of ramen. I got to try the soup and it tasted really good. I also like how thick it was. I don't like thin soup on my ramen, so this I really liked. My daughter was gulping down her noodles... just shoving it into her mouth. That is a huge thing for me because she's picky with food. We also had the potato mochi. I also liked that one. It had good texture, crunch, and chew. It was brushed with a glaze. The flavor was good. I'm not a chicken karaage guy. But I'm mentioning it because we ordered it. The chicken karaage were good chunks of chicken. Not like other places who give small chunks. My wife liked it because it had more chicken than batter. Service - The Place had good service. The food came out on time. Servers were checking up on us without hovering or being overbearing. They paid attention when we called asking for help. I was listening to the workers, and they seem to like being there. I mean, "work is work", and no one REALLY LIKES going to work. I'm pretty sure we'd all rather be someplace else besides work. Maybe I caught them in a good mood, but, it genuinely seemed like the moral in the place was good and the people working there that night didn't mind being there. Vibe - Small, family vibe. I liked that there was buzz but it wasn't loud. When we came, most of the people there were older, but as we left later in the evening, a more younger crowd started lining up and coming in. That tells me, they appeal to a wide demographic/pallet, which is good. Overall, it's going on the list of places to go back to and recommend. I don't really like going to ramen places during the summer because it's hot. But I would go here.

But for the most part, the line moves fast because meals are dished out quickly and guests eat and leave in a timely manner. And prices are relatively low compared to other places. They are currently exploring a new concept, which is a bit different from what it used to be. There's quite a bit of items missing from their old menu, but they have included new dishes to try. I got their Beefy Gold which has a lighter broth. I also ordered a side of yuzu peel & juice, reminiscent of the yuzu shio ramen. I'd say that the broth is pretty good (light broth is gentle to the stomach), and the noodles were cooked well. You'll probably miss the fatty chunk of charsiu, but they now have pulled beef charsiu instead which is stringy and just as flavorful :) Service was friendly as always and they were very attentive to our needs. The open kitchen concept is nice, the restaurant feels much larger, and overall the new location is more inviting than the old one. Unfortunately, the food and menu changes were a big disappointment for me. The old location had a much larger menu with plenty of ramen options, while the new menu is limited to just three choices. The ramen itself doesn't taste the same, and even the noodles seem different. The biggest letdown was the chashu--it used to be served as a whole slice of pork, but now it's more of a shredded meat style that lacks the same appeal and texture. Adding to that, the new location currently doesn't have a liquor license, which takes away part of the dining experience. While the new space is beautiful, I left missing the food and variety that made Kamitoku one of my favorite ramen spots. Hopefully they'll bring back more of what made the original location special.

The biggest issue, however, wasn't the wait it was the outdoor dining experience. Sitting on the patio felt like being dropped into Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds. Every imaginable bird seemed to be there: little birds, big birds, one-legged birds, scruffy birds, sick-looking birds, and fearless "gangster" birds that stared you down and swooped in the moment food hit the table. They hopped onto empty chairs, circled the tables, and constantly tried to steal food, making it impossible to relax and enjoy the meal. I understand that outdoor seating comes with the occasional bird, but this was on another level. The restaurant should consider better bird deterrents because the constant interruptions took away from what was otherwise a very good meal. If you order takeout or sit indoors, you'll probably have a much better experience. The food is worth trying, but unless the bird situation is addressed, I wouldn't choose the outdoor seating again.
