The great thing about this place is you can add your name to the waitlist on Yelp. I didn't really need to do it this time, as when I came, we got a table right away, didn't even need to check in. The restaurant isn't very loud for how many people are there, which is great. Service is also quick, I ordered the Shoyu ramen and Katsu curry combo, and my partner ordered the Tonkotsu Ramen. It took less than 5 minutes for both our food to come out. My partner said that her ramen was good and that it'll be a place we'll come back, which is a great sign from her. Next time I will try something else though. I liked the katsu curry, but the shoyu ramen was just "OK" to me, I'm more used to the broth being a little more umami. I came here for the vegan ramen and went to this location in particular because it had a higher rating. When I walked in, I knew I had made a mistake. The place is a dump. There are half-destroyed chairs everywhere near the entrance and the dining room and kitchen are a mess too. Wet grossness all over the kitchen floor, a visibly dirty mop bucket, a dirty soup pot on the floor, serving stand is super dirty, the employee uniforms are dirty, etc. Also, one of the walls is falling apart. But I have POTS and needed to eat. My bowl came slightly dirty. My ramen tasted off (especially the broth) but I ate most of it because I needed food. I couldn't finish the noodles, though. It wasn't very spicy, either. I won't come back, and I hope I won't get food poisoning. read more

What's going on with their waiters lately? 2 awkward experiences in a row. 1 - Waitress's Chinese accent was so thick we couldn't communicate well. We asked for MILD miso ramen for my child & it came to us with chili oil clearly drizzled on top. We asked & she confirmed that it was MILD. I asked why there was chili oil on it & she told us we can just "scoop it off" ourselves. WTF?!? Finally she agreed to take it back & bring one back with no chili oil. 2 - [UPDATE: This employee kindly approached me on my next visit & apologized, which I found to be sincere. He also didn't smell like cigarettes & shared that he's quitting. Added a star back] Approached the restaurant & there was an employee by the door smoking a cigarette, not even 20 ft away from the door like the law requires. I assumed it was a cook, dishwasher or other back-end employee on break. NOPE! It was the ONLY waiter & he was supposed to be inside working! He kindly opened the door for me but absolutely REEKED OF CIGARETTES while doing so & then also inside while he took my order & continued to wait on us. Gross! As a former smoker, I like many, are appalled by the odor of cigarettes....particularly while EATING. Please enforce a no smoking rule for your waitstaff while working! Also, is the AC broken? I'm super excited about this place since I haven't had a good bowl of ramen in a minute. I was about to loose hope for the ramen scene in Hawaii but this place stepped up to the plate. I got the spicy miso ramen and let me say it was the perfect spice. The broth was rich and flavorful and I enjoyed the corn that came with it. My dad got the black tonkotsu ramen and that was still good but not as good as the miso. The broth didn't have the rich depth to it. The service was fast and the restaurant had a nice atmosphere. Onoya was offering a BOGO ramen special this week from Wed-Fri to celebrate their 5th anniversary, so we braved the pouring rain and flood conditions to come for lunch. It was a good thing I used the Yelp app to join their waitlist, because it seemed like half the people in the area decided to come here for lunch. It was a 25-40 minute wait online, so the timing was perfect for the drive from Manoa. There were at last 10 people already there waiting, but at least the tables were turning petty quickly. We were seated right away and could tell the vibe was that it was a super busy day. We put in our orders and were served within 5-6 minutes. A couple of Classic ramen, a Black ramen, a Tan tan ramen, a pitch of beer, gyoza, and takoyaki. The ramen was piping hot, creamy, and so satisfying good. They're were 3 of is, so the 4th one was to split between us; but we ended up taking most of it home, along with the extra broth. The service was fairly fast and efficient, even for a "slammed" busy day, and the Ramen was excellent, as usual. read more

First time here! The parking lot you would have to go by the Jamba Juice because the main one seemed packed. My party of four arrived at 8:30? We had a reservation ahead of time and it was a little packed! They got us seated right away and it was a nice lit area, space was very comfortable, and the service was fast. They got our combos out very fast and the "side" bowls were decently sized. The combos came with shoyu ramen and a side. I never had chicken in a shoyu ramen but it wasn't bad! Craving a good bowl of ramen while in Hawaii, we found this well-rated spot on Kapahulu. Parking was limited in their immediate lot so we found parking in the lot by the Jamba Juice on the back of where they're located. Seated quickly and decided what we each wanted. Our waitress came to take our order and when asked what spice level I wanted for my spicy miso order, I asked "how spicy would you say medium is?". The server rolled her eyes and rudely said "how can you ask that? It's MEDIUM.". What the heck? First of all, not all restos spice levels are equal. Especially asian eateries. I've asked this question before at other restos when there are spice levels and wait staff have always been able to provide something to relate the level to, like it's on par with Sriracha sauce etc. This lady was so disrespectful and acted like I asked her something outrageous. Her attitude was extremely off-putting and totally unnecessary. She could have been polite about it. When I tried explaining that I just wanted to know if the general consensus here is that the medium is still very spicy or tolerable, she continued to respond aggressively, intentionally making me feel dumb for even asking. I really wanted to walk out but the kid was hungry so I stayed put despite her piss poor demeanor. My spicy miso ramen was good - nice al dente ramen noods with a nice chew, tender/flavorful chasu pork and spice level that was almost too spicy for my taste, but overall very solid. Husband and son enjoyed their bowls as well. Despite my ramen being tasty, our waitress with the terrible attitude left me wishing we hadn't come. Listen, if you don't want to answer questions from your customers, maybe you shouldn't be working the front of house and should stick to the back. This super rude server basically ruined the good mood I had coming into this meal. For that reason I can confidently say I will not return the next time we're in town. read more

We found this cute ramen spot on the way to Diamond head and it was a slam dunk. They had an awesome lunch deal for 19$. A ramen, gyoza, and a small curry bowl. You can't find that anywhere out here. They have kids ramen sets for like 10$ that are perfect for the little ones. Lots of parking and a zippy's across the street if you wanted to grab some plates to go before heading to DH. Popcorn chicken had burnt pieces in them. Crunchy and crispy on the outside with chicken meat inside. There were different sauces drizzled on the pieces of chicken. The miso flavor was subtle, but there was a good amount of chili oil that added a nice kick. The egg was perfectly runny and flavorful. I did wish there were more toppings and noodles for the price. We were in the Kapahulu area and decided to check out Onoya Ramen after a friend recommended it to us. We opted for an early dinner since we'd read that parking can be a bit tight and the place gets packed due to its popularity. Luckily, we timed it perfectly and arrived just before the dinner rush and were seated immediately. The atmosphere is great, the restaurant is nicely decorated, filled with happy patrons, and carries an amazing aroma that hits you the second you walk in. What really impressed us was the efficiency of the entire operation. From the moment we arrived to the moment we left, we were in and out in less than an hour. We didn't have to wait long to order, the food arrived quickly, and the bill was handled just as fast. In our busy lives, time is a precious commodity, and we truly appreciated how smoothly everything ran. As for the food, everything was super tasty. I haven't gone to Onoya since they were at Shirokiya. I've heard good things about this place so I decided to give it a go. Part of the problem of not going there was the lack of parking. As soon as I got there, there were 2 cars stuck - neither one wanting to move. After persuading one of them to move, I was able to get a parking right in front of Onoya! Amazing! That part over with, we went inside to look forward to ramen and other dishes. We ordered calamari, agedashi tofu and gyoza. The calamari and gyoza came out so fast.... it was a little worrisome. Both looked dry. The calamari was ok despite it looking dry but the gyoza really suffered. It was dry inside and outside. It tasted ok, but I doubt this is what it was supposed to taste like. The agedashi tofu was good. The sauce was a little vinegary, but good. My ramen looked great and they cooked the noodles perfectly - I asked for firm. The egg was overcooked and didn't have much taste. The broth was great and the choy sum and menma was good. What was outstanding was the chicken pieces in there. It was very, very tender and tasted great. That was the outstanding part of this ramen. All in all, a good bowl of ramen. read more

My husband ordered the Tonkotsu Spicy and I ordered the the Shoyu. Our ramen came out quickly and we didn't get our appetizer until we had already started eating. I was a little disappointed that we didn't get the appetizer first but no matter. The gyoza wrapper has a light and there was a lot of filling. It tasted amazing! We also loved our ramen. The noodles are chewy, and the toppings are always generous. The popcorn chicken is crazy ono. So crispy and better than the chicken karaage. Tantan and black are our fave ramens here. These plus the karaage are the perfect meal to share. There is enough nice thick slices of char siu that extra isn't necessary. Kim chee is ok. It's always busy, which is usually a good sign, and in this case, definitely is. The ramen here is one of my favorites on the island. I wouldn't compare it to Japan's ramen, but I will say it's better than the Japan airport ramen I had once. My go-to order is the spicy miso ramen and takoyaki--hits every time. I live in central Oahu, so making the trek into town means I only get to come here seldomly, but it's always worth it. I was really craving soup while visiting Hawaii so my friends and I decided to go here for some ramen for dinner. I got the yuzu shoyu ramen and it really hit the spot! Came here to have our last meal on the island to celebrate my daughter's early birthday with our friends. She wanted ramen noodles and Onoya ticked off most on our checklist. It's located in next to a laundry mat in a small shopping center where parking was limited. We had to park a couple of blocks away. The service is great. Very accommodating and always checked in to make sure we had everything we needed. My little one got the kids ramen with gyoza and I got the black vegan with #1 spice. Our friends ordered combo meals which I thought was plenty in terms of portion size. My vegan bowl hit the spot. Soup was tasty, seasoned well. Although I wish there were more veggies besides corn, garlic chips and nori. Mushrooms would have been nice. If you want some vegetables there are other vegan ramen options that have them like Vegan Tan Tan has bokchoy and Vegan Ramen has "fresh vegetable." Ambiance could be better but I never come for that. I put quality and taste of food first then service and ambiance is last. Our table was very wobbly.
