We will return to Onyx Bistro in spite of my less-than-5-star review. The service was great. My husband's wild mushroom bucatini was delicious. And the molten chocolate cake with butterscotch sauce and ice cream was heavenly. So, why only 4 stars? My shrimp scampi. Yes, the menu said that the dish contained capers. A little strange, but - whatever. That said, I was expecting the usual buttery, garlic-y, lemon-y scampi. Instead, the flavor of capers was overwhelming, combined with too much lemon. Very disappointing. On the plus side, the shrimp were large and perfectly cooked. I'm looking forward to giving Onyx Bistro a second chance. read more

Service was excellent! Mason made sure we were happy and enjoyed our visit. He recommended the asparagus wrapped in steak and a Brie cheese. Both dishes were excellent. Mason was right there when the dessert was a little burnt. Replaced it immediately. (Very easy to do when using a flame). I have to say Mason was the star of the show. Never felt so welcomed and taken care of at a dining establishment. We will certainly return soon. read more

We had a group of 12 people dine at Onyx on Saturday night and everyone's meal was delicious! The Brisket Potato Skins were to die for and the Sweet Potato Gnocchi was awesome and the Bistro Burger was incredible too!! Danielle, the Chef (and we found out later, she's also the Owner), came out a few times to check how we were doing. The service was wonderful and We all will be back many times in the future. I have been a couple times, and was pleased at what a nice atmosphere Danielle has created. Low lights, with live music and outdoor dining, make it a really a nice place to stop for a delicious dinner. Everything I had was delicious, and just the right sized portion for a reasonable price. All the side vegies are cooked beautifully. The steak was delicious, the salmon was tasty and even the roasted cauliflower (which I reluctantly shared, as I never eat it) was absolutely delicious! This was the first time for my party and I to try the Onyx Bistro...had previously frequented Rehm but my first time under new management. First, Lindy, the main server was impeccable. She watched over every customer like they were the only folks in the restaurant. Everyone else was quite friendly and responsive but, Sofie was a stand out. Yikes. I suppose I am the odd one out because I did not enjoy my dinner here. The wine I got from the happy hour list was quite bad and I found the gnocchi dish to be really unappetizing, from taste to presentation. It was swimming in sauce. You couldn't even find the gnocchi. My husband wasn't thrilled with his dish either. Felt like such a waste of money. It has a nice atmosphere but I don't think we will be back. read more

I am not one to EVER COMPLAIN...however, I am so disappointed in this place. We had been here several times when it was still RELM, and never had any issues. We were sat pretty quickly and our waitress came quickly to take our order. We ordered drinks and an appetizer. The drinks came quickly, but the appetizer never came. No one came to check on us after almost 30 minutes, and finally someone else came to our table (not the original waitress-she completely disappeared) we cancelled the appetizer and we asked to just order our entrees. We had 2 separate waitresses, one of which asked how to make it better, and we simply just asked for the food! The food eventually came, and when the check came (much later than it should have) we were still charged for the appetizer which never even was served!!!!!! We were given 1 free glass of wine, but for $100, I will not return to this place. I know places are understaffed, and it's busy summer season, but for $100 for less than mediocre service, come on! The icing on the cake-the first waitress who never even came back to our table, just sitting with another party enjoying herself when we left, and the second waitress who promised to make it better, also joining them at the same table! So my two girlfriends and myself wanted to try something new. Onyx was once Realm wine bar, we sat outside and wanted to order apps for dinner and have some wine. We arrive for happy hour at 5pm. A glass of wine is $9.00 vs $13.00 a glass and the wines are not a great selection (only 4 wines are on the happy hr list, no names I knew and I know my wine) I miss the days of 2 yrs ago when a glass of wine was $9.00 and happy hr was $5.00 a glass. Anyway, it was a Friday...the place was full. (Good for them). The location is very nice and well set up and has a guitar singer performer. The food is excellent especially the baked brie, potatoe skins, corn chowder soup, caprese salad...flatbreads are a little small, to me a serving for 1. But all in all we enjoyed the meal. Only issue was we arrived at 5pm, placed our order and it took a full hour before we got our first appetizer. I had to walk into the restaurant to speak to the manager. Only to be told it will take a few minutes more the delivery was kinda we don't care. No offer of how can we make this right. So that was a huge disappointment...as we were hungry....but felt forgotten. We spent $175 for 2 baked bries, 1 caprese salad, 1 potatoe skins, 1 meat flatbread, 1 brussel sprouts, 1 spritzer, 2 sparkling wines (which had a metallic taste, I didnt finish it), 4 glasses of wine, 1 dessert creme brulee. Split by 3 women. I was a tad hungry upon leaving. They need a protein item on the app list (I can't eat seafood). My recommendation is to offer a few higher level wines/labels wine folks especially in central Cal, recognize. read more
