After hearing a new restaurant opening in my area, I decided to check it out and see what the hype was about. I'd say the following reasons are why I enjoy this place so much. 1)A constant changing menu (always new things to try with a wide ranging meal of delicacies and wine). 2)The staff are genuinely nice people who value their customers and constantly work hard to give a memorable dining experience. 3)Live music weekly My favorite meals to date so far would be the Shrimp Scampi and the New York Steak due to how tender it is. My husband and I came here in the past and previously, we were pretty impressed by the food, the wine, and the atmosphere so much that I wanted to come back here with my family to enjoy my birthday. Sadly, our second experience wasn't great. The service fell flat and the staff was NOT attentive to our needs... For example, my husband had to get up and grab extra utensils for our table. Then, we had to ask the server for a second pour of wine, versus them taking the initiative to ask. They also never filled up our water pitcher. What a shame that we had to pay 20% gratuity for such poor service! It seemed that they overlooked our table's needs on more instances than one... First time here, & never had been to Relm either! My mom and I came last Tuesday right around the time when they opened for the day. I read about this restaurant recently in a magazine which I randomly picked up somewhere. So we checked it out. They have happy hour !! Highly recommended freshly baked Brie amazing with jam and sprig of thyme so tasty and the aroma was excellent. Main course we had bucatini pasta with wild mushrooms in miso cream sauce again highly recommend it. Dessert was peach cobbler with ice cream. It's local in Camarillo check it out. Onyx is my favorite restaurant in Camarillo! It's clean and well kept, the staff is always friendly and the food is top notch. Their specials always have something unique and I have yet to be disappointed with anything on their menu. I am a cheese junkie so I often order the charcuterie board which includes four cheeses and your choice of three meats for a nominal additional charge (including my favorite - chorizo - which was recently added). Their soups are also always incredible, my favorite being the southwest corn chowder. My husband orders from all over the menu, but his favorite is probably the sweet and savory flatbread which we regularly recommend to friends, none of whom are ever disappointed. But last night... Oh last night! My husband had their pork tenderloin special, which was accompanied by mashed potatoes, sautéed spinach and a homemade peppercorn-infused whiskey sauce. The pork literally melted in your mouth and that sauce was out of this world. And do not (REPEAT - DO NOT) skip out on dessert. I have tried crème brûlée anytime it is offered at any restaurant and I have had some good ones and some bad, but Onyx has BY FAR the best I have ever had. If they are offering the vanilla maple during your visit, ask that one (or two) be set aside for the end of your meal - or even the beginning of your meal - because it's just that good (of course, that's if I haven't ordered ahead of you - LOL). I have included a photo of the charcuterie board and sweet and savory flatbread but could not seem to get a picture of the tenderloin or crème brûlée because they were simply gone too fast. So take my advice and run - don't walk - to Onyx and tell them Jody sent you. :-) You won't be disappointed, and if you are, ask for the owner and chef, Danielle, who will no doubt make it right post haste! read more

I was so excited to try Onyx Bistro tonight and I was so disappointed. We got to the restaurant and were seated immediately. We were given water and menu's. Then we sat. More than 15 minutes until someone acknowledged we were even there. We ordered drinks, apps and our entree's. Our drinks were served and our apps and then NOTHING - no acknowledgement for over half an hour. We were never given silverware, appetizer plates - nothing until our waiter came to see how we were doing. We let Him know we were disappointed and could he check on our food. He did check and it came out about 5 minutes later. I ordered a steak, medium rare. My steak was literally raw. I could not cut it even with the steak knife and the sauce served with it was congealed and cold. I tried to eat it but just couldnt chew it. When asked about 10 minutes later how it was i said it was too tough and raw to eat. They did offer to put it back on the grill (it was sliced and covered with sauce - how would that turn out) i declined. They did admit it was full not good after checking it and took it off the bill But how disappointing! We were there an hour and a half and neither of us were very satisfied with our dinner. Im sorry Onyx. I may come back for wine and appetizers but you lost me for dinner. read more

We went to this higher-end eatery and wine bar for our anniversary and it was outstanding. The ambiance is quiet and mellow. The staff are friendly and competent. And the food was some of the best I've had in a long time. We had the pastry covered melted brie and jam appetizer. Susan had a Mediterranean inspired lentil soup made with spices brought from North Africa by a friend of the owner and the Summer Bruschetta with strawberries, cherry tomatoes, goat cheese, basil. She kept sounding like the dinner scene in "What About Bob?" mmm, mmm. I had the pork chop. Nine times out of ten I'm disappointed as they can be dry and/or flavorless. This was maybe the best I have ever had and I have been to some high-end places (on business). Moist and flavorful. If you are well-off, visit this place often. If not, definitely try it out on a special occasion. 10 out of 10 stars. As far as money, dinner for two without drinks or dessert was only about 50% more than we would spend at Applebees. Skip a dinner you would do there and next time try Onyx. read more

Came here during opening week. There was a live performer playing guitar which had a nice romantic vibe to it. Great date spot if you're looking for something cozy and warm. I ordered the Baked Brie, steak wrapped asparagus, and the Steak entrée. The food was delicious, very flavorful. My friends got wine and they loved the selection. We came here when it was Relm and the food was awesome. They kept the former menu but the food was just TERRIBLE. Salmon was the more fishy type, black rice was gross, sauce unappealing. Everything is vastly overpriced for how bad it was. Makes me sad, we liked the place before. Joined some friends here for an impromptu celebration. There were eight of us. We were pleased that there was plenty of seating on a Tuesday night, a large table perfectly suited for a party of eight. Our disappointment began when they announced that they had no beer. We know they served beer and wine only, but felt it was a good compromise for a party that included some non-wine drinkers.
