    Italian pistachio cheesecake
    Teresa R.

We went back to Bistro 13 for dessert because we wanted a special treat when we went to the beach. Again, Giovanni and his staff exceeded our expectations!! We had a pistachio cheesecake that was orgasmic! It's not like any cheesecake you've ever had. It's from Italy. The tiramisu, of course was fabulous. If you want a special experience and treated like you are the queen, Bistro 13 is your place. It is our favorite place.

Meeting a friend for dinner. We ate here several times in the past. This time we ate indoors. We had a table in the back. While it was pretty empty, it was very quiet and easy to hear each other talking. Service was excellent throughout. I ordered the seafood pasta special. Frankly, it sounded like the seafood special I had the first time I came and that was excellent. It was described as shrimp, calamari, and salmon in a red sauce. To my surprise, it came out swimming in what looked like a reddish broth rather than a red sauce (see the photo). My friend got the same dish but in a garlic sauce. Her's was also swimming in a broth. The dish was bland to the point of being flavorless (adding salt and Parmesan cheese was of not help). I ended up eating the fish out of the dish and leaving over the rest. Another gripe was they now add a 3% surcharge for using a credit card. I get it - VISA charges them and they pass the cost on to the customer. They should just tell you up front and give you the option of paying cash to avoid the add on costs. So 5 star ambiance and service with 2 star food. Will I come back - yes. But I will ask about the sauce ahead of time to make sure it is a sauce and not a broth.

Wonderful place! Had dinner here at this hidden gem! The food was spectacularly delicious! Everything was very fresh, tasty and served at the perfect temperature! The service was top notch! Never an empty glass and always very friendly and attentive! The ambiance is very cozy and warm. I could see spending all evening there with my lovely wife or friends and family and a nice bottle of wine. Great place that my brother Glen took us to! I hope to be back soon!

    Arrived at 8:27

Very disappointed I was there at 8:27 And not being able to order I have no choice but to base my review on customer service. In my opinion they missed the mark I understand they have business hrs for a reason but to refuse an order 30min prior to posted business closing hrs is my opinion poor customer service.

This restaurant is cozy and has large windows that make it feel spacious. Service was friendly although our server did miss a specific request on one entree, and we waited for the correction. The house salad while fresh and had a delicious dressing was only lettuce and carrots -- pretty dull. The pasta carbonara was delicious and the angel hair with Italian sausage was much tastier with the requested (and delayed) sautéed mushrooms. Servings were generously sized.

This was our first time at Bistro 13. We were passing through the area and called our regular Italian place that we have frequented and they would not take a reservation or put our name down until we got there, so we looked for an alternative and found Bistro 13. We everything happens for a reason. We were welcomed with open arms. The service was outstanding. Great recommendations, and always had someone coming by the table to check on us. The restaurant itself is in a shopping center, but don't let that dissuade you from stopping in. The inside is divided from the entry/kitchen side and the main dinning room. We sat near the entry in front of the kitchen and got to see all the action. The food! I had the seared salmon, and it was fantastic! My wife had the eggplant and she said it was the best she ever had, and she has it often. My daughter had the Chicken Picatta. She gave me a taste and it had the perfect balance with the lemon in the picatta sauce. All the dishes were amazing. We found a new Italian restaurant in the area, and were telling all our friends. Until next time, Cheers!

I was attending a conference and I stayed at the Sonesta right next to this restaurant. This is a classic Italian place. Servers dressed with pride, table clothes, cloth napkins, a wide variety of very Italian pastas and dishes. I tried the chowder and it was decadent. And the bread...wow. I mean, it looks underwhelming but then you realize that this is a humble garlic bread, one that does not need to brag with any fancy anything. I also got the chicken piccata. Again, delish. It's just a lot of food (which is not a bad thing!) It is more expensive than an Olive Garden but the experience and how well the staff seems cared for makes it worth it.

He was in a lengthy, loud conversation with 1 lady sitting at the bar. There was one other man eating, at the table next to us, he was an employee. I had to go up to the bar and mentioned to him it was our first time here. He didn't seem to volunteer, any information on how to order, until I asked him. Then he just said there is a number on the table to order. I asked if he had a menu, he seemed bothered that I asked for a menu. He mentioned I could order from the hostess, so I did. She was very nice and polite and took our order. While waiting for the pizza, trying to get the napkin dispenser on the table to work. They were not even popping up to use. Bar tender ignored the tapping the dispenser on the table. So I switched one dispenser from another table to ours. He never said a word when I tried to get the napkins to pop up. The bartender looked and took the faulty ones and placed them on the bar counter, and never tended to the problem. He didn't even say anything, not a sorry about that, He just continued talking to the lady. Pizza was delivered and we had a few slices left. I just went to the hostess and asked her for a box. She was very fast and we thanked her on our way out. He did not do anything behind the bar, other than talk to the lady. Then he served her a drink, and then waved his hand over the screen, it appeared he didn't charge her for the drink, He did not type in anything. Then a man walked in and sat at the bar, he ordered a beer. Then suddenly bar tender, has lots of work to do, moving around the bar like he is supposed to. It was like someone knows somebody in the business. He was slacking and ignoring us, he never asked, is everything okay or if we needed a pizza box to go, I was already asking the hostess for a box. Probably because I got my own napkins, because I didn't want to interrupt him talking to the lady. We will not be going back to the 999 pizza Tiki bar. I am giving 1 star for the bar service. 5 Stars to the hostess.

If you're going to hang your hat on the speakeasy aesthetic--dim lights, hushed tones, whispers of…read moreexclusivity--then understand this: you're entering into an unspoken pact with your patrons. We expect a certain standard, a level of care that borders on obsession. So when I catch Evan Williams--respectable, questionable, but barely twelve bucks a bottle--making an appearance behind the bar, it feels like a breach of trust. A quiet betrayal under low lighting. The illusion only works if the details hold up under scrutiny... and that pour? It broke the spell. And then comes the real offense: discovering that your Old Fashioned--the crown jewel of any respectable cocktail program--are built on bottom-shelf, dust-collecting bourbon. That's not just a letdown, it's a slap in the face. A cocktail like that deserves reverence, not shortcuts. And as if to twist the knife, there it was--a massive can of red maraschino cherries sitting shamelessly atop the bar, like some relic from a dive that's given up on finesse. It wasn't just a misstep. It was disrespect. In a place claiming the speakeasy mantle, details like these matter. They're the difference between theater and parody. The cocktails did not warrant the $15 price tag. Moreover, I would have paid more had I know the class of bourbon upfront. What ultimately redeems the space is its ambiance. The low flicker of the fireplace, the soft embrace of worn leather sofas, the curated hum of music floating just above conversation--it's seductive, even soulful. The room itself is small, intimate--the kind of place where you're bound to recognize a face, or at the very least, feel inclined to invite a stranger to share the sofa and maybe a story. And then there's the setting--tucked beneath a historic relic, a basement bar built into the bones of old Americana. The building dates back to the early 1900s, echoing with a past that deserves to be honored, not phoned in. That's exactly why I expected more from the cocktails. A place with this much atmosphere shouldn't fall flat when it comes to what's in the glass. It's a mismatch--a beautiful stage, but a script that doesn't quite rise to meet it.

DH did better - he enjoyed 3 of the 4. He said that none of them was a huge standout, but he appreciated that they had such a variety of choices available. Apparently, there's not much in the way of inexpensive drinking these days. The four samplers came up to a whopping $16, before tax and tip. Whew! I think the concept of having Shooby's (burgers & chicken), Rori's (artisanal ice cream), and Topa Topa Brewing Company all under one roof in Old Town Camarillo is quite brilliant.
