A hidden gem located at the Onyx Day Spa is a nice and extremely talented lady name Lynn Nguyen. Every time I see Lynn I am always pleased with the results. Today I was a mess. My nails were in desperate need of some TLC yet it was such a spontaneous decision to get a manicure. I called Lynn and she was so professional and nice. Even though she was super busy she still squeezed me in to accommodate my tight schedule. Within the tight time frame I had, she managed to give me a perfect Shellac Manicure. She helped me pick a color that I absolutely love! (I keep looking at my nails because they look so pretty.) She was so calm and kind and it really helped me to relax. Her station is so clean and her products are highest quality. Her prices are very reasonable too. Apparently, Lynn is also very talented with skincare too! I was actually really looking forward to checking out the spa which is right around the corner from my house. I looked up the hours and I realize that they're open fairly early so I wanted to get my nails done and on the Yelp page they say they except walkins. Not a lot of salons or spas in my knowledge except walkins so I was pleasantly surprised so I started driving over. I walked up to the front door it said open in the neon sign and then I try to walk inside and the door was locked. I thought I was mistaken so I tried getting in again and the door was still locked. I texted and called the location and no one answered. They should have a sign or something that says they are currently in a spa session or they should hire more people to Man the front desk because you cannot say that you're open and your door is locked. read more

My daughter had a gift certificate for this place. So we decide to try it out on Sunday for a Mother Daughter day. We made appointments for mani/pedi. The greeting we received was very nice. The staff was pleasant. But the quality of service was not good. They seemed very disorganized. The pedicure tubs do not have jets to relax with. There was no foot or calf massage. Not even lotion on our calves. No hot towels. My daughter got a manicure. Her cuticles were never pre-soaked prior to cutting them off. No massage on here hands. And polishing was mediocre. When it came time to pay with the gift certificate, which I know we did not use all of, she just took it and said we were good. We asked if the certificate covered tips and she said no. Again we did not use all of the cert. So to recap, quality of service is very poor and we were over charged. Never to return again. read more

I came in for a first time facial, pedicure and full set. I'm crippled at the moment and they were all soooooo helpful! The girls here do sculptured nails, meaning they don't add any fake tips they make your entire set by acrylic. I'm a cosmetologist so I'm very picky about my nails, not being one many women are already but I just know what's possible and what's not. To not make it seem like I have no faults to my nails my polish can use some work but that's my fault I should have mentioned to her to bring the polish over the free edge. I noticed not only talking to the girls they are friendly but I saw you can speak up and they don't get annoyed or make you feel like you should just accept what there work and not say anything. They want to make sure your happy and that is very hard to find in a nail salon!!! I don't get false nails much because I'm always thrown off by the set itself but I'm truly satisfied and wouldn't mind becoming one of their returning clients. I just had the most relaxing experience at Onyx Day Spa! I first saw Alex for my gel manicure. She did an amazing job. I love the almond shape that she gave me and the glitter that she suggested made a nice touch. Then, I saw Mariana for my facial. Let me start off that I trusted the review that said this place was a "hidden gem". But I had a completely different experience. I called ahead to make sure they could take me in, as I was in the area. After being reassured that yes they had time for my gel manicure, I made my way there. The place is clean and I was promptly greeted and I proceeded to wait for my nail tech for the gel manicure I requested. This is when things started going downhill. The nail tech, Salina, could not "find" her tools and had to leave the store to get them from her car. This was strike one. I am all for clean tools and it struck me so odd that she didn't have anything ready. She continued to remove my previous gel polish, very slow and steady and patently, which I appreciated and then asked what shape I wanted for my nails. I was under the impression that I would get my cuticles cut and my hands soaked etc but no sign of that. I thought perhaps she did things in a different order. I told her to shape my nails square , and after pointing out a couple of times if she could please shape it more, she didn't completely satisfy my request. In the middle of this, another customer walls in and turns out she has an appointment with her in the next 10 min! At this point I'm sitting there wondering when she will get to my cuticles ! As this is one of the best parts of the manicure to make it all look like a good job. But no... She simply pushed back my cuticles and NEVER once asked me if this was something I wanted or was I okay with that. I saw my nail tech begin to her antsy, Im assuming because the other customer was waiting for her appointment. I wanted a particular color and finally Salina brought out the one I wanted and she just began to paint my nails. Now , I'm a very polite person and I did not want to cause a stir so I stayed quiet as my nail tech continued to polish. NEVER did she ask about my cuticles. She was rushing, and she got polish several times on my skin. After a hasty polish job, she proceeded to just lightheartedly tell me she will only charge me for a color change ONLY since she "DIDN'T HAVE TIME for a full manicure". She still had the nerve to just tell me that, as if it's something funny and as if I didn't just waste an hour of my day expecting a COMPLETE gel manicure but only got a color change that I could have done myself. Or they could have just told me since the beginning and I could have had a heads up or booked an appointment at a different time when they HAVE time. Very disappointed. read more

HAPPY FEET!! Not sure where to start, and I refuse to write a novel this evening, lol, so let's just summarize all the things I look for when selecting a salon to get a pedicure. Everyone is wearing MASK(4.8 stars already JK, but Seriously two thumbs up). Perfect location with ample parking set back from the main BLVD so the noise from traffic is not a distraction while receiving your service. Nice, spacious and clean salon with every color polish you can think of, good amount of gel as well. Customer service upon arrival to departure was on point, I had an appointment and my service was started timely, which I definitely appreciated I only frequent salons with appointments as I'm still working on patience(smile). Super cool and well versed nail tech, explained and addressed all concerns. Conversation was friendly but stayed professional (nice music too)which is also a plus and it wasn't overdone! I came in almost a year ago for a bachelorette spa day and all in all it was pretty nice. As soon as we walked in they offered us beverages; coffee, tea, champagne, and everyone was exceptionally friendly as well. At the end of the service however, of the girls in the party mentioned a service no one else got, which apparently was part of the package the bride wanted but was never given. We also we were all charged an extra service we never got either. After realizing this over charge we asked for an emailed receipt, just to make sure, and they never - still to this day- has given it to us and it has been almost a year. They kept saying oh we are pretty busy and don't have time to find our receipt in their online system, even when we paid with card. Would recommend, just be sure to account for all the services you want done and really look over your receipt before they charge you, especially if you're in a group. read more

I had a peppermint scrub done a couple of weeks ago. While the treatment was relaxing, I didn't notice any results from it. It really just felt like a sugar scrub and then a coconut oil slathering. I called to cancel my appointment yesterday at 4:27 pm and no one answered. I got a call back at 4:50 and was able to cancel the appointment for today at 4:30. She didn't mention anything about being charged for the service. Today I see that I was charged $135 for not canceling within 24 hours. So technically I was 20 mins over the 24 hour mark, but why not tell me that I would be charged? That's so shady and unprofessional. read more

I wanted to have a nice spa day for my best friend's 29th birthday. I haven't shared this since because I didn't want to ruin her day or make her feel bad about an experience that isn't her fault at all. So this is me finally sharing that experience, about a year later. First off, we walk into the salon and the place clearly looks like it is under construction which I completely understand, they just moved locations and sometimes you do what you gotta do when you are running a business. I requested a full spa day- facials, massage, and pedi. They reserved the entire place for just us 2 which was nice. We are brought to the back and turns out my friend and I are going into 2 separate rooms. I guess that was ok? I was hoping we'd be in the same room together like typical spa days I've had but I had to brush it off. Then a man wearing a headband comes out of the massage room. I was like hm...I'd figure businesses like these would be more mindful of women who experience sexual assault and try to schedule a female masseuse for women. Or at least tell me over the phone ahead of time...but whatever, we were already there. I get my facial first, my friend goes into her room for her massage. The facial was ok. I could have definitely done that service myself. She even used a spin brush that was out of battery so she was constantly pushing the button to get it to spin. LOL. Then it was time for my friend and I to switch- *trigger warning-sexual assault* I walk into the massage room and the place feels like a converted bathroom. Definitely expected a better environment. The masseuse requests I undress, so I did. He enters the room and begins to work on me. He starts to ask me questions about my tattoos, where I'm from, etc. The moment I say "my husband and I," he stops and looks at me wide eyed and says, "oh, you're married?" I'm like...YEP! :) I continue to bring up my husband to make things clear, just in case. He did a great job on my back because I was super sore from working out. Then, he walks over to the bottom half of my body. He works on my legs, then he moves up higher and higher toward my crotch area. I start to cringe and freeze as he repeatedly massages the groin through the inside of my underwear literally swiping my vagina with the side of his hand. Not a slight graze either. He was really in there. I have received MANY massages, and NEVER has anyone done this to me. I'm laying there questioning everything. I had no idea how to react in the moment. [Do I say something? Or should I just shut up because I don't want to ruin my best friend's spa day?] He finally stops. Tells me to flip over. He walks back up to my top half and asks "would you like me to massage here? It's very tight."- he places his hands on my upper chest area. I was super sore from working out so I said sure. I did not know he was going to go all in. He caressed my breasts repeatedly, made a V with his fingers as he moved down my breast to make sure he doesn't touch my nipples, didn't even work on my upper chest area. I was so uncomfortable. I was finally done. My friend seemed to have enjoyed her services so I didn't say anything. They gave us champagne while we waited for our pedicures which was an ok experience as well. I've had way better pedis. Paint job was uneven and there were small drips all over my toes. LOL but whatever...maybe the person that was working on me wasn't great at it. I just wanted to get out of there. We were finally done. Paid a lot of money. Definitely not worth it. Don't think I got a receipt either. 2 weeks later, our polish peeled off. And I am still grossed out by that masseuse. I hope he doesn't work there anymore. Never coming back anyway. Eck. *EDIT* One of the owners commented and is clearly dismissing my experience. She is deflecting by putting the blame on me for not contacting them sooner and calling the timing of this review "funky." Regardless of the time frame, THIS IS NOT OK. It is clear where their moral values stand. I do not wish these experiences on anyone else who chooses to come here. Upon scheduling your appointment, confirm who will be working on you as they clearly have communication issues stated in prior reviews as well. It is such a shame the owner, Sara K, lacks the capability to take responsibility for their staff member's actions, does not even apologize, and can not respond with even a little compassion. She starts her comment off with "This must be a joke" and still continues to dismiss my experience through private message. A phone call will clearly not fix this. read more

Moving to the East Bay, I have been trying to find my go to nail salon. I have no issues with payment of a great job, great quality, and great customer service. This place is NOT it. After all the amazing reviews, thought it was just my personal experience. Have had talks with people that have tried this place and/or worked here before. SKETCHY BUSINESS PRACTICES. DO NOT COME HERE. Ambiance: First of all, they take in one person at a time. I had to switch my appointment to an earlier time, but they only have them over and hour or so spread apart. Found out, they have ONE person for each job. One "nail tech", one "masseuse", etc. I'm already here.. so I'm trying to merely enjoy the experience at this point. Manicure: The nail tech (using this term extremely loosely) only pushed back my cuticles, instead of cleaning them. You can tell she is self taught because her speed and accuracy are questionable. She was getting nail polish on my actual skin. Pedicure: The nail tech isn't the one doing the massage for your pedicure. It was the "masseuse" who basically was just opening and closing her hands in an upward motion. Was completely uncomfortable and not relaxing. read more

This is the very BEST place for massages! Make sure you book with Sara..she's simply amazing. I've had massage at numerous spas and this is still the most outstanding I've ever had. Sara's talent is that she is extremely in tune with her customers and their needs...if it's just allover relaxation they're looking for or have pains/issues that need special attention. The spa is inviting, relaxing, convenient and a great value. I've been coming for years and don't think I'll ever go anywhere else for my massage needs. Let me just start out by saying the salon is new, and what I mean by that is that they are still, I believe getting the hang of the flow of the business and many of their staff are new. However, whatever they lack in experience, they certainly make up for in customer service and attentiveness. I recently had an opportunity to book a spa day. It was a rare occasion that I didn't have my kids, and it happened to be my birthday. So, I thought why not see if I could get a spa day? I called for availability for THE SAME DAY and spoke with Kass. Kass is awesome and managed to not only book a same day spa day for me, but for my niece, and at the same time frame, and with a continuous flow between services. For anyone running a business, that is not an easy task. Not knowing what to expect, my niece and I brought some champagne to celebrate, but guess what-They actually paid attention to the fact that it was my birthday and specially arranged for there to be mimosas and fresh fruit in addition to their tea and water service!! I first had a facial with Carrie who is not only sweet, but very experienced! I cannot rave enough about her facial and her magic fingers. Next, I had a gel mani with Martha. She has only been there a short time, but she gave me probably the most flawless gel manicure I have ever had. I will post a picture, but even after 2 weeks of washing dishes, giving kids baths and changing diapers-they are still on fleek! Glossy, no chipping, peeling or warping. Arti gave me my hot stone massage and was so sweet and passionate about what she does. She has strong hands and a soothing voice. I raved so much about what a relaxing time I had on my birthday, that my boss bought me and my paralegal a spa day package for our birthdays!!! I cannot rave enough about the care and attentiveness that each and every staff member at Onyx displayed. I have gone to places that are amazing and more experienced, but had poor customer service. Good customer service and making sure your client leaves happy is something that makes me want to make this my spa spot. I came to onyx for the first time today and greatly enjoyed myself. Looking for a nail salon open on a Sunday was hard to begin with but to find a a good salon makes it that much more difficult. Turns out they're open 7 days a week. As I walked in I was welcomed by my nail artist and owner. Instantly found the atmosphere very warm and welcoming. They had a very nice waiting area with a verity of coffee, tea and water. My nail artist took a different approach to my nails then I was used to and I enjoyed it. I asked for a natural look and that's exactly what I got. She told me about the other services they provide and I got pretty excited to know they offer facials, massages and plenty more.
