Came here because all the reviews were great... but food was expensive for what it was and service was not good. I got an egg and cheese sandwich, meat was a $4 up charge. When it came out 45 minutes later, it was an unseasoned egg with unmelted cheese on a stale bread roll. I also ordered an iced dirty chai that was almost entirely milk and with a slight taste of burnt coffee and no chai flavor at all. The cinnamon danish was fine but still pretty stale. Overall, it took way longer than it should for the most mediocre and expensive food I've ever had. read more

Although the food took a little while to arrive, it was definitely worth the wait. The breakfast sandwiches were served on soft, pillowy brioche buns. The Sunrise Sandwich stood out with its fresh greens, thick-cut bacon, juicy tomatoes, eggs, and melted cheddar cheese--all perfectly balanced. There is metered street parking right out front as well as a metered parking lot a few steps away. I like that they have mini and regular sized pastries. I decided to go for a few minis so that I could sample them. I got an opera, strawberry shortcake, and tiramisu. Loved the opera and tiramisu, however, the shortcake was dry. Minis IMO are a but pricy. Hubby ordered the custard croissant and really enjoyed it. He is hard to please when it comes to pastries so if he says it's good, it must be really good. He told me if I am ever in the area to buy one for him. Lol. Aside from pastries: coffee hot tea iced drinks (coffee, latte, tea) smoothies freshly squeezed drinks breakfast sandwiches (served until 3pm) Brunch (served until 3pm) panini (served until 3pm) sandwiches (served until 3pm) Pastries seem somewhat limited compared to other bakeries I have been to. I stopped by Ooh La La Bakery to pick up a couple of small desserts for dinner. I was quite impressed with the selection of pasties and small cakes, and it was very difficult to narrow my choices down to three items. I forget which desserts that I ordered, but two out of three desserts were pretty amazing. I wasn't too impressed with the carrot cake. The carrot cake was not bad, but it wasn't great. I tasted more like a carrot bread instead of a carrot cake. I thought the prices were pretty good for the area. Overall, I would return to check out more desserts. read more

Ooh La La is a nice local cafe and bakery with friendly staff that my wife and I have frequenting for years. Coming from a French family who can be picky about pastries, I can confirm they have excellent food, including stuff you rarely find elsewhere in the DMV (at least in my experience). My wife and I often buy their cakes for family events, and we especially like their tiramisu cake and opera cake. Even my dad, who doesn't like tiramisu, loves their version, which has more a chocolate mousse-like quality with less coffee flavoring. The opera cake is very dense yet airy and moist with a rich, smooth chocolate flavor. My wife and I liked their cakes so much that we had them make our wedding cake! There were so many good flavors to select from, and we had trouble narrowing it down. We ended up going a little crazy and buying a four-layer cake, each layer a different flavor, with an extra little side cake of each flavor. Their main cake baker was very nice and communicative. We were so happy with the results, and it ended up being less expensive than other places we looked at. My wife and I often come here when we need a quick pick me up. I love their kouign amann, which is uncommon in local cafes. When I have found it in other locations, it hasn't been as good. Ooh La La's kouign amann is a little dense and flaky on the outside and moist on the inside, almost like a combination of a cruller and a croissant. They also have good breakfast sandwiches and platters. They take a while to make, but that's a sign of quality. It's not just prepackaged frozen food they heat up really quickly like at Starbucks. They don't necessarily have the best tea and coffee compared to some other cafes in the area, but it's still good. My only minor complaint is that they don't have reusable utensils. It's all plastic. They have a huge selection of traditional French pastries (napoleons, kouign-amann, sweet and savory croissants). They are have many different cakes to choose from or request custom. One can also order paninis, sandwiches, quiches, avocado toast and egg dishes for breakfast or lunch. Ample seating is in the back with a water dispenser and cups. I love their plain butter croissants but ordered their spinach and cheese croissant this time instead. It came out toasted and perfectly flaky and crisp on the outside. I had high hopes and they did not deliver. Passion Fruit Mousse The passion fruit was authentic and I appreciated that is was not overly sweet allowing you to taste true passion fruit. The custard was so gelatinous that it was stiff like jello. Not good at all. The thickness didn't flow with the dessert as a whole. Fraisier Same gelatinous custard attempt, which made the dessert off putting. The strawberries were old and a bit sour, much like when the dessert was prepared a couple of days ago. The chocolate was okay, I expected it to be more fudge consistency. I wanted to love this place as presentation of everything in the place was excellent. I'm super excited by the new bakery in downtown Wheaton! I stopped in today and totally forgot to take picture, which is a shame because it was a nice, bright, inviting space. The cases of pastries are right as you walk in, silently singing "Pick me!" So I did. I grabbed an almond croissant, a chocolate croissant, and an apple turnover. I stopped by my friends and (despite my inclination to shout "Mine! Mine!") asked them which ones they wanted. Left with the almond croissant (yay!), I went home. I hadn't fully realized how darn big the croissant was until I stuck it on a plate (cuz I'm civilized like that). It is big! And quite yummy! I am a fan of almond, and this did not disappoint. My friends told me the apple turnover and the chocolate croissant were also delicious, so I'll have to go back to try those. Next time, I'm gonna try a latte and some of the lunch items. After calling several places on the same day when I needed an Oreo cake to take home with us, this place was the one I settled for and definitely delivered and did not disappoint! They have no Oreo cake pre-made but had a base cake to make me one and after a few instructions and suggestions back and forth, we went home happy with our custom Oreo cake, especially my 9 yr old who did not have any party but her only wish to have an Oreo cake for her birthday really made her super happy. A simple wish made deliciously possible by this bakery. Special thanks to Yorleny for accommodating and being patient with this same day, last minute custom cake request. Was very curious about this place since there's lots of bakeries around. This one however delivers the most delicious croissants in the area! They are flaky, soft and oh so yummy ! On the first visit I tried the various croissant selections, their ham and cheese is divine! And their chicken pot pie ALL DELICIOUS! I want to like this place, but much left to be desired. What I had: Black coffee, egg and cheese sandwich, tres leches cake. The only thing I could finish was the coffee, it was good! Egg and cheese sandwich was drenched in butter, unsalted butter at that, lacked any kind of flavor or even salt, came on an oily brioche bun and just had nothing enticing about it whatsoever. Tres leches. Three milks. Apparently they only put two and forgot the most important one. CONDENSED milk! Man, this thing tasted like a piece of cornbread dropped in a cup of Milk with gummy flavorless whipped topping on it. There wasn't a whiff of sweetness to this "cake" I took two bites and threw it away. Unfortunately couldn't even continue on. On a side note, the entire place is just dirty. Layer of dust on every visible surface, a big wall blocking what should be a really cool open kitchen, and lackluster selection of pastries. Open the place up and let's see your staff work! Amazing! The chocolate mousse has ruined me for all other desserts, because it's SOOOO good. It seems unfair that a bakery with a dessert THAT good can also do savory - but savory it does! My egg and bacon sunrise sandwich was one of the best breakfast Sammie's I've ever had. The egg was REAL and cooked perfect. The back on was thick cut but still crispy - which I have never seen done before, and the bun....well this is a bakery so it was great - of course! A new-ish place around the neighborhood. I've been so curious to try this place. It may not look much from outside, but the inside is so nice and clean. The man behind the counter, was helpful and professional. The only gripe are the pastries that my daughter and I ate. It's the classic French pastries both sweet and savory. We ordered a couple of pastries: Strawberry Shortcake, Bread Pudding and Peach/ Custard pastry. All 3 were a bit dry. To start with the Strawberry Shortcake the sponge itself was a bit dry, the cream was not fresh (a bit clotted), it wasn't too sweet, which was good. The Peach/Custard pastry was the best one out of the 3. Although the outside pastry was a bit dry, the flaky/crunchyness was still there. I love the big peach in the middle, I love the glaze. The Bread pudding was cold, dense and dry. It also had bits of cooked egg inside the pudding. I think it would be better if it was more soaked, moist and warm. I think if we come back early in the morning perhaps the pastries will be fresher! We also got the grilled chicken panini. It was simple, but delicious. I tasted mayo though which kinda put me off, but it's still good. We'll come back early and try their other products. read more

So I should probably open that I lived in France for eight years and ate approximately ten MILLION croissants while I was there. The village I lived in had three bakeries and I could identify each of their croissants blindfolded. I also have a Masters Degree in buttery pastries from L'Université Qui N'existe Pas. So...this place has nice croissants. They're not "holy crap I need bypass surgery from all that butter" good, but they're quite nice. With that said, their ham & cheese croissants are LEGIT! I had a France flashback after my first bite and started laughing uncontrollably at Jerry Lewis movies. But seriously, they're awesome and you should get one...or ten. I have to admit that their almond croissant was kind of a let down as I found the filling not lacking in quantity, but flavor. It needed a little more oomph (or as the French would say, "oof"). The chocolate croissants (or as they're appropriately called, "petit pain au chocolat") were pretty good but like all of their croissants, needed more BUTTER!!! I have to admit, this place will be my place for croissants in the future but I'm still holding out hope for one of two things: 1) these guys to inject more butter into their goods, or 2) another French Bakery to pop up and require me to have an angioplasty. p.s. I've been shopping at Ooh La La bakery since they opened a couple of years ago, and it is my go-to place for French breads, croissants, and pastries. It is hands down the best French bakery within a twenty minute drive of Silver Spring and one of the two or three best in the DMV. Their croissants are consistently flakey, buttery, crispy on the outside, soft and flakey on the inside and taste exactly right. Their French baguettes are crisp outside, soft and airy on the inside. Their sourdough baguette is a bit heavier and chewier, and if you like a chewy sourdough, which I do, they are delicious, although they sell out early and sadly are not made every day. I'm a fan of their bread pudding, as well as their Napoleons. I'm a takeout customer only, and I focus on the breads, but I'm going to guess that their sandwiches are delicious. The owner is usually on site and the staff is amazingly helpful, and they clearly know what tastes good, so I cannot see them doing anything but making your in-house experience as nice as my takeout. I typically go early in the mornings and get some croissants (which also freeze well by the way) a sourdough baguette and a regular baguette or two. Oh my goodness it was so delicious! It was our first time going there. We were looking for bakeries to get some special treats on Thanksgiving morning this year. We ended up trying 3 different things. A cream cheese croissant, raspberry croissant, and an apple turnover danish. We LOVED all three. The cream cheese croissant was definitely my favorite! It tastes like it had fresh vanilla bean or something in it as well as a delicious hazelnut flavor, so good!!
