The new Main Event opening this weekend will bring a lot more foot traffic that will hopefully spill over to the other merchants. Timberland, Nike, Gap, Old Navy, GUESS are all represented here. And so many more! Coach, Kate Spade, Zales, Movado and Banana Republic are some of my favorites. Johnny Rockets, Nathan's, Chipotle are available for your after movie meal. Did I mention Regal Deer Park movie theater is also here? The ice rink in the winter and holiday decorations according to the season are always lovely. Although I miss The Christmas Tree Shops that went out of business, this is one of my favorite outdoor outlet malls. I must admit, I get lost each and every time I go there! The maps always confuse me...LOL. However, I do manage to always find the restrooms! I always find exactly what I'm looking for here and the prices are reasonable.

Sadly things aren't made as well as they used to be anymore. Once I have something name brand that breaks quickly or wears down after a short period of time I am done with that brand. So no more Vera Bradley for me except for the stuff I already own that hasn't worn down yet. I had a kipling wallet in my car, I also won't buy kipling anymore because of a backpack that broke on me fairly quickly but I already had this wallet before I decided that. So I was temporarily using the kipling wallet but I was obsessing over getting a different wallet even though it wasn't the best financial choice since the kipling wallet was still good. I had the day off work and after meeting my friends for breakfast, doing a trail run in Yaphank, and taking a gym shower (I had a quick car nap before the trail run), and looking in Marshall's and not finding anything I had a little time to visit Tanger Outlets in Deer Park before getting to my son's cub scout meeting and taking my son home with me after that. So I ended up wandering around the outlets, I had already decided against coach because coach products became trash long ago and I ended up in Kate Spade. I have yet to have a problem with any Kate Spade merchandise I've ever had. Arianna helped me a lot, she was great!!! I showed her a bigger wallet, the mid-sized green wallet I ended up buying, a wristlet and a smaller wallet. She priced them all for me. I was trying to decide which wallet to get or if I should go for the wristlet and the smaller wallet. The wallet I decided on is great, I love it so much and it was $65 tax included which is a great price for Kate Spade. The wallet fit what I had in the kipling wallet which was a plus and it's a smaller size which makes it a little easier for carrying. I'm happy I decided to go into Kate Spade and I walked out with a wallet that I hope will last me at least two years or more. If you're making a trip to the outlets definitely check Kate Spade out!!!

I felt like a champ. My first Kate Spade buy, a $12 wallet. Wooohoo! I felt tricked though because the coupon for Kate Spade at their main office said I could add a 10% discount to even clearance item, but the cashier girl told me, " Our sales are already a lot, so we can't add this." Strangely worded, but what do I know. Not like the coupon clearly stated that it is combineable. The store was nicely organized by pattern, but the upscale-feel was ruined by the amount of shoppers in there. Everyone likes a good sale though. One thing the store can really improve on is labeling where the line starts. I saw an elderly woman and a young girl bickering over who got there first. The line wasn't long, but that argument could have been avoided if there had been a clear line start label. That way everyone can have an enjoyable shopping experience and leave knowing they got the best deal.

The staff was very friendly but not too friendly (don't love being followed around and asked if I need help by the same 3 people multiple times); they greeted me, gave me space while I was looking around, and made conversation/suggestion at the register when it came time to pay. As a previous sales associate, I understand and appreciate the delicate balance. If I had more money, I would've bought half the store! Although this outlet store didn't have the boots for men or women, they did have other styles at a really good price and discounts up to 30 percent on certain styles. If you come here during busy season, be sure to plan to wait to get inside as this store is small and they often have a line outside to limit the amount of people in the store. They mentioned that this is required as they cannot exceed the maximum capacity set by the fire marshal. Nonetheless I waited outside for at most ten minutes and wasn't on line for too long. Considering it was hectic and many people were there doing returns the entire process took 20-25 minutes. The service here was standard and I didn't stay to look at any new shoes as I don't personally like Uggs anymore as the quality of the shoes has declined significantly over the years. If you like this style of boot there are other alternatives such as Ugg since 1974, but I know people really like this brand.

There are quotes & photos of Whitman scattered throughout & a statue at the entrance.. The mall is clean, bright & inviting. The Bloomingdale's, Saks, Apple, Tumi, Macy's, Pottery Barn, Sephora, Zara, Casper, Anthropologie ... Rocco's Tacos, PF Changs, California Pizza are here now.

With so many malls closing around the country somehow the shops at Walt Whitman mall seem to be…read moredoing well during the holiday season. Santa was taking pictures with people and while the parking lot was a traffic jam the weekend before Christmas, there are plenty of restaurants in and around the mall to relax and unwind when you need a break. Some of the larger anchor stores I think are still empty but the few that were left were well staffed and seemed to thrive. It's our local mall and although I'm not a fan of shopping, Walt Whitman does a fine job of keeping its building nicely decorated and clean.
