The paths and park are dog- and kid-friendly. There are a lot of cyclists here, so keep to the right of the path if walking or running. Ample opportunity to see deer and other wildlife. I've been going to this park ever since it's been built, and honestly it's amazing to see how much it has grown and expanded. This park has many different trails that vary in distance, location, and difficulty. They have lots of paved trails so it's safe for kids or anyone who may have more difficulty performing exercise. Majority of the trails are shaded due to the foliage and there are a few spots that have quite the scenic view. I like how there are markers every quarter mile with the name of the trail and just another note whenever it does rain, some of the paths due get flooded so make sure to be cautious when choosing what day to go (but the park usually closes for a few days, so that the water could subside). Love it! Spent a whole Sunday here on the trails. The trails aren't technical, mostly flat, and we actually walked almost to Hauseman on the side of the ravine, just behind the subdivisions. The park is quite busy, lots of kids, however the crowd stayed close the the front of the park. After the first 10-15 minutes on the trails, we didn't see anyone but an occaisional small group of bikers. read more

I was looking for a place to bring my dogs for a nice walk and I found this amazing place right by my hotel. The park is absolutely beautiful! Deer were all over the place and they didn't seem to mind us at all. The nature trails are well kept and easy to follow. Trees overhead kept the trails well shaded during the 91 degree heat. We only planned to go once but we made it a daily stop for our entire stay. I will definitely be back! read more

This is my favorite park in San Antonio and I feel that it is underrated. OP is a beautiful park with so many trees and excellent shade. I went bike riding just the other day one afternoon in this horrible 100 degree heat and the shade made such a huge difference. I love the trails but some of the hills are pretty steep and hard to pedal up if you aren't that fit. Going down is super fun on a bike but it sucks when pedestrians don't get out of the way. The paved trails are pretty narrow but they are really nice and smooth. I haven't been mountain biking here in a long time since I don't have a mountain bike anymore but the trails are super fun. I can't wait to do it again. This is a great park to do some bird watching, too. I saw like 5 cardinal couples the last time I went. I wish it had a dog park I feel like it would fit nicely. I can't say enough good things about this park, I really love coming here. read more

just took my little guy biking here with friends and I have to say that we found out the trails aren't formed in a circle. this place is a great adventure: especially when you don't know the trails and get lost. The playground is fun and had lots of kids playing around, the only issue I had was bees that were swarming the near by garbage can. The trails are great for all biking, hiking, running etc. We saw all types of people doing each on the trails, the only issue I had was that there were a bunch of adults speeding down these medium sized trails like they were biking along Lance Armstrong, that's great for them but on a Saturday afternoon I think it's safe to say OTHER PEOPLE would also be using the trails. Also for anyone interested, check out the YMCA right at the beginning of the park. read more

This park is great for biking trails or walking your dog. However, not recommended if you're looking for relaxing scenic views on your run. You're pretty much running through trees and behind neighborhoods mostly. We did run into alot of deers, a stray dog, and even snakes! so be careful. read more

I LOVE this park for hiking. There are cliffs that are easy enough for me to climb up or down just on foot, so the 'hike' is so much more adventurous than what's available (or what I feel I can do free-handed) in other parks. The park is just big enough to hold my interest, and just small enough for me to go off trail without fear of being lost forever (without toting a compass/GPS). read more

A great little park in the very busy far northwest area of the city. I love mountain bike trails, and this park has quite a few challenging ones. There is a huge YMCA at the entrance. Lots of area for picnic/ bbq/ parties. And it's sufficiently secluded from all the hustle and bustle of the city. Plus it's connected to the Leon Creek greenway, with its 3-4 miles of paved trails perfect for jogging, walking, dog walking, and biking. I love this park! read more

I rediscovered OP Schnabel park today and I fell in love all over again! I just started a lifestyle plan to try and lose (and keep off) 40 pounds and went to walk one of the many trails here. I am fortunate to have 5 parks/trailheads within a 5 minute drive of my home so my options are many. I do NOT like to exercise, however, I do LOVE nature and walking. This beautiful park makes me feel like I am in the wilderness without feeling too isolated. I mostly had the trail I was on to myself (an occasional jogger, biker, dog walker did join me). I was able to see and hear many birds and squirrels. A deer actually greeted me as I pulled into the parking lot! I was inspired by the beauty and serenity that surrounded me as I walked (and stopped a LOT) to take pictures of the glorious wildflowers and trees along the path. I love the variety and different skill levels of the trails. There are also SEVERAL for off path mountain biking as well. There are clean (and fully stocked) restrooms at the main parking area as well as a nice playground and covered picnic tables. The trails wind around in different directions so it is easy to come in one end and come out in another completely different area (still made it back to my car safe and sound). I truly cannot wait to go back and explore this park on a more intimate level. read more

I enjoy walking my large dog here early in the morning. It's pretty quiet on weekdays around sunrise if you're looking for a time that's more low key. The trails are great, but for me slightly confusing. There is a pavilion with water fountains and an attached dog bowl for all you other dog owners. This park also has a really nice playground and a lot of shade for your walk. read more

This is a really great park for a run or picnic or even a nature walk. My friends and I used to really like playing baseball in the fields but recently we were told we couldn't play there anymore (I am not sure if the fields are part of OP or the YMCA). I rated this park a little higher than Govt canyon only because it has so many great trails off the main path. It's also great how the long bike path connects to different areas of the park. So much to do here, so little time! read more

This park is really nice! The trails are paved which is perfect for me. The scenery is beautiful & you can see a lot of deers at this park.

Do not go to this park. Yes it has great trails but while you are hiking or biking, you vehicle is being broken into. I have been there twice within a month and a half and my TWICE my trucks were broken into. They use a screw driver or something to get in the vehicle and damage the locks and door. Now I have 2 trucks I have to pay to get work done on because it was damaged by a thief not to mention they took my wallet & phone. I will never go there again. read more

I have been going to this park ever since I was a little one. I played around the playground started my soccer career at the ymca fields. Over the years I have probably explored the park via biking,running,hiking,long boarding ten times over. No matter your age this park has something for you and that is one thing I love about this park! This park is always pretty busy some people are friendly and some people are quite rude on the trail... Some Bikers think they own the whole pathway and are not afraid to let you know that. As busy as this park is I do feel a lack of safety on this trail even as a male. You can go long stretches without seeing anybody and I have come across some shady looking people down the dirt trails that made my hair stand on end. After all that has happened in this park I am surprised that there are no panic stations along the trail system so if something happens you basically only have your cell phone to connect you to help. For this reason I would suggest only going into the trail system with a couple of friends or at least a buddy. read more

It's just beautiful. The trails are wonderful. The playground could be a little larger, but my kids love it.

Nice park to hike but very bad place to leave your vehicle. There is no security around or cameras and when I got back to my vehicle my truck was broken into and they stole everything. Plus my wives cards and identity was taken from her. We called the cops and all they could say is we were the fourth person to get there vehicle broken there at that park in three days. That just tells u something. Just a word of advance becareful when u go to that park and don't leave anything in your car. read more
