This place is big... creative placement of various buildings up and down the hill. It is related to the Bluenose but not the same... hmmm. Indoor & outdoor pools shared ( outdoor pool was not heated when we visited...brr) we have a balcony ocean view room and the view is spectacular. Small fridge, microwave, a few chairs inside and in the balcony. It's older but clean with good shower pressure. Rooms open to parking lot so you can park outside of your room quite common in this area. read more

I used to live on the Island as a teenager. So to go back and visit with my daughter, I wanted to make sure we had a view. If you want a view, this place Delivers!!! But that's where the experience ends. We had just gotten in from central Florida on the heels of hurricane Milton. Our reservation had to be changed multiple times due to flight cancellations and such for the hurricane. The front desk was less than hospitable, almost laughing at our situation and my concern about the many changes we underwent. There was little kindness or empathy for what we had just been through or that we had no power and minimal phone service, after walking down the street, just to make the changes in reservations to get here. After checking in and feeling laughed at, we got to our room which appeared to be last updated in the late 1960's. It was very clean though. I will say the housekeeper does a fantastic job cleaning that old room. Other travelers may have a better experience than we did. We did enjoy the view and balcony to see the view and housekeeping is unmatched, but the front desk killed the vibe I was hoping for in showing my daughter the Island. read more

I legit never leave reviews but my boyfriend and I had such a bad experience staying here. Our room smelt super strongly of ammonia and mold but honestly we didn't think we would be spending much time in the room so put up with it for a night. However, my bf got very sick and the smell was unbearable so we asked to please move room's. The manager was super rude and said she DID have a room she could switch us into but we would have to pay $100 more per night if we wanted to move. Felt super cheated and helpless as we had already spent a lot of money and my bf was very ill from food poisoning. The rest of the staff was very friendly but there are much much better places to stay near Bar Harbor that are clean with friendly people. read more

The staff was very caring and helpful. We couldn't pick up our rental car until the next day, so the staff drove us right to the front door of our hotel room in a golf cart. Our room was great; the king bed was very comfy, we had a beautiful view of the town and the water, and there's a mini fridge and safe in the room if you need it. The restaurant at the hotel serves yummy breakfast with another beautiful view of the below surroundings. Great stay overall. read more

We loved, loved, loved the location (1/2 mile walk to Bar Harbor), the views of Frenchman bay from our balcony, and the sizable room with refrigerator/microwave (room 71). As distance runners, my husband and I loved running on the carriage roads in Acadia (0.8 miles away), the Bar Harbor Island trail and the shore running path in town. Looking for beach glass on Bar Harbor Island trail and wildlife in the tide pools was popular for all of us. Some have commented the the rooms are no updated--they are certainly not modern or extravagant. However, the beds are comfortable, the decor is fine, the rooms are clean with good service, the staff is attentive and kind. We would definitely stay here again!! I have never had a tougher time deciding between three and four stars. It's a conflict between describing a pure experience and judging a place "on its own terms." If you want to give this establishment the benefit of the doubt for running a shabby motel with a great view, solid location, and friendly staff, then you might say four stars. If the marks of lax investment and old age are a little too disconcerting, then you would probably say three stars. And of course price comes into the equation too: it's less expensive than other area hotels and B&Bs, but is it as cheap as it should be? The Wonder View is an old motel, with the twist that the property occupies several buildings up and down the hill. The room interiors look like a 1989 update of 1960s construction. In other words, chipped paint, rusty pipes, worn doorframes, cracked and moldy bathroom grout, et cetera. The toilet ran frequently even though noone in our room had used it for hours. There was only one electrical outlet that wasn't hidden behind the furniture. All that I can overlook for the right price. My main complaints center on light and air. The curtains over the large windows do not fully close, and the rooms all face south or east; plus there is a back door with a frosted glass window with no covering. Therefore, it gets very bright relatively early in the morning. Secondly, those two old doors are drafty, meaning that you have to use the heat pretty much constantly. Thankfully, the heating system is powerful and responsive...but LOUD AS HELL. It emits a series of clacks, clangs, buzzes, and wheezes, giving you the choice of trying to sleep through a silent but chilly night or catching a long series of brief but cozy catnaps all night in between cycles. There were a few positives. As I mentioned, the staff were all nice. Downtown Bar Harbor is a short ten-minute walk away. Even closer is the affiliated Looking Glass Restaurant, with the best breakfast-with-a-view on the island. Also: + Mini-fridge + Wooden deck with two plastic chairs + Far better towels than you would expect + Cold, drinkable water from the tap + Lovely lemon-scented soap + Wall-mounted bottle opener AND corkscrew + Really useful and interesting Acadia/Bar Harbor/Mt Desert Island maps and other publications provided in the room, not the useless tripe found in most hotels + A cool moose with a lei marking the driveway on the main road + They advertise themselves as pet friendly but I'm not sure what that means specifically -/+ No exhaust fan in the bathroom, but an old fashioned small window with a chain which reminded me of camp read more

First, the review result has nothing to do with the virus. I am sorry, but I cannot give you a favorable review for this property. Unfortunately, when Expedia asks me to send a review, you will be disappointed. The problem began when we were given room #24. This room should not be given to anyone. It is a dump in the truest sense of the word and I wouldn't even award it a single star if I didn't have to. When we arrived, the door was open. No, not unlocked open. Ajar. It didn't even seem like it could be shut. The sheets were marked in places, slightly reddish. I don't know if they were dirty or it was evidence of bed bugs. Thirdly, the bathroom was a small, dilapidated shower stall, something I have experienced (expectedly) in third world countries where one has no little (but not paying $140 nightly). You should be ashamed selling this room. I was only able to get room #5 because someone canceled. That was better, but not much. The entire property needs a facelift. The linoleum on the bathroom floor was pulled up in spots, dingy and dirty. The walls weren't much better. One would think the light fixture in the bathroom could be cleaned so it would shed more light. That would take about five minutes. The sun shines into your eyes at 6:00 because there is no covering for the top of the doors. Awful. I could go on about the room, but what's the use? The only positive was the restaurant. *Look Below for Pros and Cons* My husband and I decided upon a north east road trip for our honeymoon - the one stop we were looking forward to was Acadia. We decided upon Wonder View Inn because of the location to Bar Harbor/Park and the fact that it was on the free shuttle's schedule. Cons: The only problem that I had with our room was that the walls were incredibly thin. Which normally doesn't bother me but...when you end up next to a child throwing a temper tantrum (actually banging on the walls to our room and throwing objects) while screaming at the top of their lungs - all while you're trying to get some sleep....it gets a little annoying. Good thing was that we were leaving that morning, so we didn't have to deal with it for more than a night. I feel sorry for the people who got our room right after us! Pros: Location, free shuttle service, and clean. If you're like us, you only use the hotel room to shower/sleep/and decompress. So we weren't there for long, but it was perfect for our needs. Minutes from Bar Harbor, minutes from Acadia National Park; how can you complain about that??? I actually talked my parents into a trip to Bar Harbor next summer; so Wonderview Inn will definitely be getting a call from my husband and I very soon! read more

I've read some iffy reviews of this place on other review sites. Came to Yelp, saw there was none, so here we go. This is not a 5, 4 or 3 star hotel, by any stretch, so you must immediately lower your expectations, people. It has not been updated in years, which, in my opinion, is part of its charm (I grew up going to old hotels with my folks.), so if all of the most modern of amenities are on your must-have list (jacuzzi tubs, heated pools, office connections, etc.), look elsewhere. This is a fairly bare-bones hotel. There is, however, free wi-fi, so that's a win. Proximity to "downtown" may be an issue. If you plan on heading into town, having a couple of lobsters and pounding some beers, it's going to be a long walk back. Take a cab or designate a driver. If you have small children, pack a stroller to walk or be prepared to drive and park. There are multiple "levels" to this property, affording better views of the harbor/ocean the farther up you go. The higher you go, the better the view, the higher the price. We have stayed in the Upper Courtyard every time we have been, so I can not speak to the other buildings and their conditions. The "Wonder View"s from the rooms we have stayed in would rate a 3.5 out of 5 on a nice day. All of the rooms we have stayed in have been immaculately clean. I cannot stress to you how clean these rooms were. It's a bold move on any hotels part to offer nothing but white linens, let alone a place as dated as the Wonder View, but there wasn't a stain on the blankets, towels, washcloths or sheets (I know, they probably just bleach the crap out of them, but still). The bathrooms (again, probably original) positively sparkled. We had a corner room once with windows on two sides and they were spotless. I stayed in exactly one other hotel that felt as clean as The Wonder View, and that was the W in Chicago, IL, shortly after they had opened. Maybe we just hit it right with the cleaning crews, or The Wonder View has impeccably high standards when it comes to cleanliness. For a tourist-heavy area, I find the prices to be very reasonable. They are seasonal, though, so leaf-peepers, be prepared to pay the price. The service can be, well, brusque at first, but once you crack their shell, they are very nice people. Typical New England. If you're used to it, you'll be fine. Oh, and they are dog-friendly, which is how we ended up there to begin with. The Wonder View is our go-to when visiting Bar Harbor. read more

The hotel dated and low quality where it has been updated. Though, it is clean. I'm sure some rooms had a nice view but ours didn't and the balcony it advertised could barely be defined as such. We checked in late and the clerk was just arrogant and abrasive. On top of that they couldn't find our second reservation. They finally did but not before causing panic. The breakfast was terrible. All prepackaged and microwave-able foods. Finally, while the hotel is pet friendly they charge you $20 per night, which is not advertised on their website. read more

This hotel was reasonably priced compared to the rest of Bar Harbor. Pros: short, 0.5 mile walk to downtown. Price. We stayed in the room above the office and the view of the harbor was fantastic! We were here over July 4 and were able to watch the fireworks over the harbor from our bed! :) There was a small continental breakfast which consisted of 2 types of cereals, bagels, toast, muffins, yogurt and refrigerated, prepackaged egg burritos. There was a Keurig and K cups in the room. Front desk staff was nice - it was mostly 2 older gentleman. Shuttle picks you up right in front of hotel office. cons: property is not well kept and is dated. There were weeds covering pathway up to hotel restaurant. Pool chairs were very old and one of the chairs was broken. The room was VERY dated, but it was clean. Had a small refrigerator, microwave and safe. The deck was a bit scary - it just looked structurally unsound and the spindles were barely connected to the top rail. The top rail was rickety as well. I definitely would NOT have allowed children out on the deck. We notified management about The deck (although this is how every deck on the property looked) because we felt it was so unsafe. Showers were not enjoyable, as the water temp would get cold and hot throughout the shower. If you're not looking for anything fancy and just need a place to shower and rest your head, this place will work. read more

This hotel is 2.5 stars and one would be about right. Our room was cleaned but dated and old, kind of smelly so we kept the windows open. I don't think the location can be beat for the price. Great location and beautiful sunrise from the room. The pool is a hike from the rooms and more like a drive once wet. The Bluenose is like the 1980's re-lived and the differed up keep has taken a toll. The Wonder View is practically a tare down. The staff was great except the manager Jeanine, in the end we did get a credit for the night but is was only because I called the hotel company that owns the Wonder View. We had a guest in the room next to us show up on the third night and smoke on the deck. We came back to a room full of smelly smoke. I proceeded to the front desk to ask them to please call and let him know he couldn't smoke on the deck. Needless to say the woman didn't call him because we were woken up to smoke at midnight. I called the front desk and the assistant manager said he would speak to the manager and have her call me. I confronted the man asked him to stop, he said he didn't know and apologized. The manager never called the next day so I called when we returned from a hike at 3PM. She didn't know the entire story, said the man in the room was lying and told me it was our fault for leaving the window open?? She was beyond horrible and the manager. She gave me the run around so I decided to call their mgt company when I got home and they are crediting the night in the end. read more

​Finding a hotel room in Bar Harbor in August is never easy. Calling this hotel a luxury hotel is ridiculous. And yes, I saw this advertise as a luxury hotel. This is more like a motel, and appears to be a converted motel that is now a hotel. Let's see who can handle the truth: the rooms are quite basic, the bathroom is extremely dated, the little kitchenette just the counter with a microwave on it. The beds are like marshmallows. The odor in the room when we walked in was, as my child put it, like someone's arse. They call this the Wonder View, so you must be wondering what the view is like. Well, for us there was no view. We will literally looking at trees. There appear to be some rooms that are on a slightly higher level and for those units their balconies basically look down on our building and the parking lot. What kind of view is that? When we asked the front desk if there was a vacancy in the main hotel they told us that even if there was that that would be a separate charge because the main hotel and the Wonder view I'll run is two separate business entities. There has to be far better here in this part of Maine in this price range. My guess is the only reason they are fully booked is because people couldn't find anything elsewhere, or people believe that the view would be wonderful. There is no view. The only thing that is good is the proximity to main Street in Bar Harbor, and to the different attractions in Acadia. read more

We went on vacation with 2 kids and a large dog so our choices were limited. This inn is old time resort with multiple buildings spread over the hillside. It is a little worn and dated but extremely clean. The staff is down right friendly and helpful. If you want 4 star accommodations you can stay at the sister resort...Bluenose Inn. But you can't beat the views or atmosphere of the Wonder view Inn. Early one morning we were standing on our balcony and a mother deer with fawn were on the wooded path below our room. No money could have bought that experience for the kids. It was great. We shall return for a much longer visit. read more

The Hotel was really old and it shows. It looks like they tried to clean it but there was some Kind of red residue on the light switches and telephone. There was a big spider on the pillow on the bed when we arrived. There was something crawling in the ceiling (like a raccoon or squirrel) and that was a bit spooky so I notified the front desk. I was so tired that day And I did not leave, but only stayed one night. They could not give me a receipt when I left, because their computer was broken. Four days later and I still have not received the the receipt that they claimed would be sent to my email address that I left them. All in all I was very disappointed in the hotel. The $149 was a bit too much for a hotel in this shape. On the positive the location is very good and the people friendly. It is around the corner from Bar Harbor and Acadia national Park. read more

Honestly don't know how this received 4 stars. It has very old furniture, the color on the doors and walls is peeling off, the mattresses were very hard and you could feel the spirals. The room smelled and there was not even a closet! The light was very dark and the windows and doors were not airtight. The only good thing were that it had a fridge and microwave, but don't get me started on the TV (old tube TV). The receptionist was friendly but incompetent. Overall price-performance ratio was awful! Saw so many cute hotel's and inn's in the city of Bar Harbor and absolutely regretted that we stayed in the Wonder View Inn. read more

The rooms are clean and the night I stayed here I only saw them and never heard them. The rooms are older and dated but you can't beat the price and location in Bar Harbor. I stayed in Room 7 with the courtyard view and I am sitting on my awesome balcony as I compose this review. :) read more

My first trip to Bar Harbor with family and a dog...after a week long search for the pet friendly hotel, we decided to book with Wonderview. The room was clean and cleaned well. Since this was the first vaca we did with our dog, I was very concerned to be staying in a per friendly hotel room and suffer from other dog's dander...I am happy to say I am ok. Kids were abit disappointed by the room however. They were used to the Hampton Inn style of modern accommondations, and Wonderview is at least a decade behind. The curtains, the bathrooms, the wall paper, the furnatures....etc can all use abit of updatings. That said the bed was comfortable, the flat screen TV is big, the Wifi works, and the water runs strong and hot. It served its purpose. If I am to return to this area Wonderview may not be my top choice. However I know Wonderview would always be a solid default I can count on. read more

DO NOT BE FOOLED. I stayed here without reading reviews because they allowed dogs and was feeling lazy. The regret is strong. We get our actual keys and drive to our wonderful room with a view... a view of the street, no ocean like promised but no biggie, could've been a room booking issue since I did it over the phone. The problems start when I pull up and the one trash bin outside the rooms is OVERFLOWING. Trash is blowing around the parking space and on the grass, garbage is packed a good 6 inches on top the garbage can and stacked all around it. It's a disaster. Then the shared 'balcony' has about 7 towels with throw up or some other mysterious substance on them just hanging all over. That combined with the garbage meant this place smelled amazing walking up. Got into the hallway before the room and I have a bad feeling... I can hear the couple down the at the end rooms talking about where they should go eat. A little helpful since I was also wondering the same. Get into my room and close the door annnnd I can still hear each word they are speaking. The walls here are the thinnest walls I've ever had at a hotel. it got better when the screaming kids and dogs came back later that night. Make sure you bring some noise canceling headphones if you wanna actually get some sleep here. Other than being able to hear every noise in every room in your unit the rooms themselves are outdated and empty but slightly bigger than a run down motel 8, smaller than the new ones though. In The room itself there is only one outlet so keep that in mind if you want to charge anything. The bathroom has a rusty child sized sink so if you are on the taller side be prepared to bend and get some squats in to get to the right height to use it. I found it interesting that the room had a toilet plunger too, nice for emergencies. I especially liked how it just sat on the floor with nothing to hold it. Shower wasn't bad so I have to give it that though. Just a normal shower for a ran down hotel. Overall review this place is 100% not worth it. I stayed at the days in nearby and that place was not only cheaper but not as outdated and much nicer rooms and still super close to everything read more

All the amenities were there: large tv, small fridge, microwave, safe, and Keurig. The staff was friendly and helpful regarding hikes in Acadia and how to navigate around the road construction nearby. We stayed for four days and the hotel staff never cleaned our rooms while we were there. We had a lot of trash that needed to be emptied as well as towels that needed to be washed other than that it was convenient stay and clean hotel. read more

This is the second time we have stayed at the Wonderview. Do not expect a five star hotel, that being said, although it is a little worn around the edges- the rooms are clean, the beds are comfortable, and amenities such as a hair dryer, a mini fridge, air conditioning, gym, swimming pool, etc are there. The rooms are clean and tidy, and housekeeping cleans the room daily. Best of all - the staff is friendly, courteous, and attentive to your needs. For example, we asked for an extra pillow, and within minutes it had arrived. Also, there is a continental breakfast included with your stay. The price is super reasonable considering the area- which is a plus for those who like to save money! We are going to stay there again next year on our annual trek to Bar Harbor! Enjoy! read more

The room we had was outdated. I get the old theme, but this is just slack on just painting and fixing for the price we paid. I stayed here for 2 nights. When we walked in to the entrance way that goes into our room. The first thing I noticed was all the junk in the hallway. vacuum, laundry. and cleaning supplies. I thought that they were cleaning the room. But no. That's where they kept it. They Key they give you, is just a key. No tags somthing that says there name. Just a little gold key. For me, easy to lose. The room when we walked in reminded me of the 90's. The bathroom is a small bathroom but noticed the tub. It had bad patchwork done to it because it looked like someone broke it on the bottom. and the hand railing was a PVC pipe. Gross. Not even painted, still had size of pipe it was. Around sink, paint was chipped. windows were old and peeling. and when we opened the door to leave. the main door would be left opened. so we got to run into another door. the main door should be out swing. No breakfast like the other hotels. You can pay to get something to eat. When we walked around there were all kids of places that said they served there guest. Coffee even would have been nice. when we were leaving we told the lady that the room was gross. And there was a patch in the tub so when we took a shower we re-broke it. anyways she just said sorry and gave us our slip. as we were driving off, I checked it. and it wasn't our slip. someone Else's. which have info on there room what they ordered name address and price NICE we drove back and said you gave us the wrong slip....for real Will not stay there again, ever. read more

It serves its' purpose but is significantly more expensive than other lodging options. They claim to be pet friendly and provide a nice dog treat and bowl but prepare for an extra $20-$40 in pet fees and deposits. The view is nothing special, the free breakfast does the trick (basic cereal, bagels, and a waffle iron), the dining prices are outrageous. Staff was very friendly however being awoken at 8am on vacation to landscaping equipment was not my favorite thing. They should probably do that later in the day. Look elsewhere, the only highlight was Green Mountain coffee. read more
