I was staying at the Sheraton for a conference all week and Open Palette in one of the restaurants on the bottom floor. The restaurant feels very open and airy and has amazing sunlight. The service was amazing- super friendly, very serviceable, very accommodation. I ordered the tuna Poke bowl which was incredible. Rice, seasoned tuna, avocado, edamame, picked onions, mushrooms. Everything was fresh and perfectly seasoned. Unfortunately, I was eating while having a meeting so I didn't take pictures. But it lives in my mind forever. read more

I expect to be financially exploited when I'm a captive audience -- such as being at a concert, baseball game or hotel. But I'm also a guy who will complain when the food is not up to par. This is one of those complaints. First, this place is clean and nicely lit. The service is fine, except for seating all the parties on top of one another despite that there were dozens of available tables throughout the space. (Yes, I was privy to conversations on both sides of me ... neither of which were interesting at all.) Such a practice is lazy and inconsiderate on the part of the staff of a restaurant that is charging me Perry's Steakhouse prices for an average burger. It's not as if we are in New York City, where space is extremely limited. As for the burger, it was a $19 slab of way oversalted mediocority. Sure, the bun was toasted and everything was hot. But it tasted like something I would get in a school cafeteria (minus the overload of salt). The fries here, which are not included with the burger, were served hot and crisp. Pretty decent. Note to guests here: It's cheaper to take an Uber to a decent burger joint elsewhere. If you're on a time crunch because you're taking a conference lunch break, do yourself a solid and bring some snacks. You'll not only have a better "lunch," but you won't eat up your per diem with this exorbitantly overpriced, heart attack-causing stuff. read more

The restaurant is located on the first floor at Sheraton Dallas hotel where I was staying, so I visited the restaurant twice for lunch. First time I had buffet lunch which was okay. The second time I ordered chicken tortilla soup and bbq brisket. Chicken tortilla soup was not bad, elegantly poured into a nice soup bowl from a teakettle. Presentation was excellent, and the soup was tasty, it was just lukewarm for my taste, but still not bad. I tried this place for dinner during my stay and also went to the bar side for the tail end of happy hour. They have bbq by the 1/4 or 1/2 pound, and I got 1/2 pound of brisket and 1/4 pound of jalapeno sausage with the cornbread skillet. I didn't take a pic of the cornbread skillet, but it was a lot smaller than expected. It was tasty, but nothing great. Overall, I just felt like the price to value/taste ratio wasn't quite there for the dinner. I'd recommend popping in for happy hour and grabbing a class of wine or a cocktail from the bar side. However, I'd probably stay away from the old fashioned if you are expecting a traditional drink. I felt like it was a little off, and someone described it as having a maple syrup flavor. However, the brisket slide during happy hour was even better than the brisket we ordered for dinner the day before. Everything we ordered was beyond exceptional in our server Kia was out of this world. We were genuinely surprised by the quality of food, portion sizes, and delicious flavors. I went to Open Palette a few times while I was staying at the Sheraton Dallas Hotel. It is Sheraton Dallas Hotel's dine in restaurant. It is open for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. It also has a bar area, which has live music at night. It can also be booked for events. I had breakfast here one morning, was at one event there one night, and drank at the bar area on two different nights. I thus, cannot comment on their lunch/dinner. The restaurant is near the lobby, and is easy to find. I love the decor both in and out of the restaurant. The restaurant is comfortable. The service is excellent. The breakfast is buffet style and has a wide selection of items to choose from. You still have waiters personally attending you, if you need assistance. At night, the bar area is packed, yet you still get great service from the staff as you will not wait long for a drink. The same great service and food, you will find if you attend an event there. I attended a corporate event, and the food was delicious and the wine perfection. I wish I would have eaten here for dinner, the first night I was here instead of the restaurant I had picked. The restaurant's food was lackluster and considering how much I later enjoyed Open Pallete's offering for breakfast and that corporate event, I am sure I would have throughly enjoyed my dinner too! Kia was VERY attentive and patient! Explained my meal to me (I had many questions). She made sure everything was packed up because I wanted to take it back to my room. She was friendly. I got the seared salmon and broccolini with the Violet cocktail. I did not like the salad and cherry sides that came with the salmon BUT the salmon itself and the mashed potatoes were delicious. The broccolini was good too. The Violet cocktail was not tasty (to me) I like me drinks sweet and this tasted like a whiskey or a rubber boot. But after consuming it all I did get a nice buzz. I ordered their "signature dish" that was a 14 oz ribeye. I ordered it medium and it came out well done. 4 Stars on Yelp?! On my work's credit card, sure its a 4 star. But for my personal money its just a 3 star overpriced hotel restaurant. Fortunately I was here for work, and therefore free for me... Friendly service, the waiter happily sat us down at 930pm on a weekday night even though closing was at 10pm. Its a Sheraton, so its a clean elegant, clean, and modern setting. $15 Fried Green Tomatoes...tasty appetizer! But very small! It was one tomato cut into 5 slices with a pleasant dipping sauce. $32 Shrimp and Grits...pretty good, but rather bland compared to every other shrimp & grit dish I've ever had. Portion was very small...six shrimps and only a small scoop of grits. I was still a bit hungry...at least give me some more grits! On my corporate credit card, I'm okay with this. And I'm trying to lose a few pounds. But I'd probably look elsewhere if it was my own money. read more

I love when u can eat at a hotel restaurant and not stay at the hotel, because u can really find some hidden gems that way. This place had excellent food. We ordered wings and Caesar salads. I personally judge restaurants by their Caesar salad and this did not disappoint. Each part was delicious... the chicken, the dressing, the croutons. When a restaurant can do something simple fantastic, I anticipate tasting the rest of the food. I will definitely be back Open Pallette! read more

My 63-person student group had a great experience for the three meals (two breakfasts, one lunch) we ate at Open Palette while staying at the Sheraton. Joanne was incredible at coordinating the lunch, being mindful of our strict budget and very accommodating regarding diners' dietary restrictions and allergies. She even went so far as to create a color-coordinated seating chart, list, and name tags for our group - I've never seen that in all my years of organizing student trips - it was amazing! The chef, Rodrigo, was also thoughtful and accommodating, especially as concerned one traveler with significant food allergies. He and Joanne also collaborated on our lunch, and they made sure as many travelers as possible could eat the main dish even with our group's many dietary restrictions and allergies. I also have to give a shout out to Beatriz - who I believe was in charge of the waitstaff - she was flexible, helpful, and kind. I think she also was very aware of being fair to her servers, making sure they had similar numbers of people to serve. Speaking of, the waitstaff was personable and friendly, especially Nick, who remembered I liked iced tea from one morning to the next without asking. With how many people must come through the restaurant every day, I was impressed with his recall. I know I've gone on about how excellent the staff was, but I have to say the food was also delicious - a huge variety of high quality options at the breakfast buffet, and a very yummy pasta dish for lunch. Our vegetarians and vegans were well taken-care-of - a rarity in group travel. Overall, I strongly recommend the team and food at Open Palette. While my experience with the Sheraton front desk staff was less than stellar and I don't plan to take my group to stay at the Sheraton again, I would definitely go to Open Palette were I in the area. read more

During a recent stay at the Dallas Sheraton Downtown, I tried the breakfast buffet at Open Palette. I was surprised by the variety of items. A chef was there to prepare eggs as you wish - I went with a simple bacon, onions and cheese omelet - a variety of breakfast meats, breads, cereals, sides and fruit. The omelet was creamy with just the right amount of fillings. I particularly liked the selection of charcuterie meats and cheeses, and smoked salmon. My only disappointments were the biscuits and gravy. The biscuits were small and tough, and the gravy thin. Come on, folks, this is Texas. Make a decent biscuit and cream pepper gravy! The service was very good, and the upscale appointments bright. Other friends had dinner here and said they enjoyed their meal. I would definitely eat here again. read more

I was staying at the Sheraton and didn't have the energy to go out, so tried Open Pallete. First, the service was great. I was recommended the tuna tostados and salmon, which I ordered. The tuna tostados were okay. The flavor was good, but it did taste like the underlying tostado was a frito, which may be a flavor others like more than myself. The fish was relatively fresh, but could be better having just dined at Uchiba in Dallas yesterday. The salmon arrived and the filet was a little thinner than I thought it would be. Unfortunately overcooked. They did a seared crust which had a nice consistency. The flavors were there, but wish they took the fish off the grill a couple minutes before. The dessert was great and presentation 5 star! The ambiance was a bit noisy as there were multiple conventions going on simultaneously and the restaurant opens up to the lobby. You can tell the chef is trying and with a couple alterations it could be a solid option in Dallas. read more

I was here for training and decided to stop in for dinner because I didn't feel like walking around the city. I also heard multiple good reviews from my coworkers that the steak was pretty good. We were seated immediately around 5pm. It wasn't busy at all. We asked the waitress for suggestions on appetizers since everything sounded great on the menu. She suggested the roasted cauliflower. We ordered that. It was surprisingly great. It was seasoned well and had Pine Nuts mixed in. It tasted like stir fry. Myself and coworker ordered the steak. It came out and our jaws dropped because it was so large. Side note: it says that it's topped with Chili Butter. Don't let it scare you. It wasn't spicy at all. It was cooked perfectly and was tender. No A1 steak sauce was needed. I had mashed potatoes as my side and they were to die for. They were so light. My only complaint was that it only came with one side. I would've loved another vegetable. Also my coworker substituted the potato hash with roasted root veggies. She said it was good but a little bit salty. I took the rest to my room because well, we don't waste food :) Our check was brought out quickly which wasn't a bad thing but I was disappointed that a dessert menu wasn't offered. The dish was incredible! Was recommended by the Hostess, Maurie, who promised I wouldn't be disappointed. Short rib pasta was the name, but similar to Beef Stroganoff. (higher end) It was cooked fresh, and the Chef roasted the vegetables which made this dish so delicious. I left expressing my "hats off to the chef" Jose. Ate here a handful of times when I was staying at the Sheraton for a seminar. During lunch, it's quite quiet, almost like a fancy coffee place. And in the evening, it's almost like a sports bar area. I have ordered from the lunch and dinner menus. Prices are a bit pricey though. Got the grilled fish, salad, fish and chips, and beef wagyu sandwich. The grilled fish came with 2 filets and lemon for you to dress. The salad was just okay. A spring mix with some small cherry tomatoes and croutons. The fish and chips came with 2 pieces of fish and a bed of fries. Overall, my favorite thing was the beef wagyu sandwich. It was super tender. However, I will say that the French fries and the grilled fish were overly salted-to the point where I was dying of thirst when I was back in my room. Open Palette is just very convenient for anyone staying at the Sheraton Dallas since most places nearby close a bit on the earlier side. read more
