This place is very special because it's been a while since I first visited and I still think about the amazing spicy margarita I ordered and how it's one of the best I've ever tried! Visited Hendys on Henderson with some friends for happy hour recently and we had a great time with delicious food, good drinks, and great atmosphere. Firstly for appetizers/small plates, we ordered the burrata (this dish seems to be seasonal with the menu alternating between different fruit accompanying the burrata every few months or so; during our visit, it was paired with apple). We also tried the pretzel calamari (I was very curious what about this made it pretzel inspired as I've never seen this combo before but we discovered it was cooked in a pretzel coating, and it was definitely worth trying) and the Hendys Tendys (served with Texas toast and fries). For drinks if you like spicy and savory, you can't beat the spicy pickle margarita which has tequila, orange liqueur, muddled jalapeño, pickle juice, lime, agave syrup and garnished with gherkins (small pickled cucumbers similar to cornichons) and a Thai chili. Don't worry about it being too spicy as it's a perfect blend of tangy with a slight kick. I can't wait to go back and try some of their other drinks and main menu items. read more

Came to Hendy's for brunch and had an interesting experience. This is a place that looks like it's mostly a club at night and has some food during the day. The decor is great and has a fun vibe. However they didn't really do a great job cleaning from the night before. Everything was sticky- the table, the floor, and the seat. Service was strange, we had like 2 servers though both were very nice! The saving grace here is that the food is actually pretty decent. I had the fried chicken sandwich and it was good. Nice and juicy. Overall I don't know if I'll come back, I got the sense they cater to a specific crowd (college kids) and I was not part of that. read more

If you are 30 and under, this is your spot! The food is mediocre, but the drinks I had were good, but take that with a grain of salt because we had prosecco and spritzers. The Zesty Cello was delicious. However the Maui spritzer tasted like grass. My husband liked it though. The food is too oily. We tried each of croquettes. They were a bit oily and the actual croquettes lacked flavor, and the toppings weren't flavorful enough to carry them. My husband got the burger which he said was decent. The fries are really good. I got 1 pancake, and it would have been ok had they actually cleaned the grill before cooking the pancakes. You can taste the meat in the pancakes. They had to have cooked them right where they cooked the burgers because they definitely tasted meaty. I also got the BLT. It was oily and unseasoned. The best thing on the sandwich was the bacon. The sourdough seemed to be dipped in oil, and the fried green tomatoes were deep fried, not pan fried and lacked flavor. I wouldn't go back, but I'm also over 30 and a foodie that travels the world. Lower your expectations if you go for food. Our waitress was the cutest thing and she was nice. It seemed like her first service job. The patio was nice also. Good food! Nothing crazy elaborate but the fries were super crispy and the steak had good flavor. They actually knew how to cook rare plus - which was a huge bonus. They used a butter gravy on top that I liked. It's definitely a bar first, but if you want dinner - they do that too. Ambiance was nice with beautiful warm light and trendy decor. Service was great. I was in town from Austin and saw this place recommended on Instagram. The food looked really good so my husband and I decided to give it a try. The vibe wasn't what I was expecting, but not bad. I was expecting a cute, laidback, Sunday brunch vibe but this is definitely a college bar. It was the Red River Showdown weekend so that also amplified the atmosphere, I'm sure. The girls behind the bar were super nice, though, and took great care of us. We thought the food was fantastic. We started with the ahi tuna and pretzel calamari. The tuna was super fresh and light. I was nervous about the pretzel batter for calamari but it was a light flavor instead of thick and heavy like I was worried it might be. The calamari was also cooked perfectly, not dried out and tough. My husband ordered the BLT and I got the breakfast sandwich. Both were delicious, as well, and their breakfast potatoes were probably the best I've had. I think as long as you come in knowing it's a young crowd, you're going to love it! read more

I am writing to formally express my concern regarding my experience at your establishment on Thursday evening at approximately 9:30 PM. From the moment my party arrived, the service was disappointing. The venue was not busy, yet after being seated at a high-top table, we waited an extended period without being acknowledged. When our server eventually came to take our order, her demeanor was unprofessional and our drinks were significantly delayed. After waiting, I approached the bar to inquire about our order and was told the drinks would be brought out shortly. Once I received my drink, I paid my bill and prepared to leave. I had consumed only one alcoholic beverage that evening and had not consumed any alcohol prior to arriving at your establishment. As I was leaving, I was approached and informed that I was being "cut off" because I was allegedly showing signs of intoxication. This accusation was both confusing and upsetting, as it was entirely inconsistent with my actual alcohol consumption and behavior. When I asked for a specific explanation regarding what signs of intoxication had been observed, none was provided. Instead, I was repeatedly told the same statement without any supporting details. What made the situation even more concerning was the timing of the accusation. I had just paid my bill and chosen not to leave a tip due to the poor service I received. Shortly thereafter, I was approached by staff and treated as though I had done something wrong. Based on the sequence of events, I was left with the impression that I was being singled out and treated unfairly. I believe the security footage and surveillance cameras will clearly show that I was calm, cooperative, and not exhibiting signs of intoxication. The manner in which I was treated was humiliating, unprofessional, and left me feeling discriminated against. Because of the seriousness of this incident, I will be pursuing further investigation into the matter and documenting my experience accordingly. read more

On the positive side, the staff was great and the drinks were good. However, the joint was so loud that we could not hear each other sitting side by side. And the food was terrible. The rolls tasted like they came from the freezer section at the grocery - not like what is served at Pillar. The Hendy salad (or whatever it is called) was so drenched in dressing as to be inedible (and the chicken was MIA). Saw this on TikTok as a new brunch rec from a couple influencers I follow. Showed up with my friends right when they opened. Had to park a 5 minute walk from the building on a random, sketchy street. There was a bouncer- he made my best friend walk all the way back to where they parked to get his ID just so we could enter. We did and, when we finally got in, every table was apparently reserved so they said our best chance of eating was to sit at the bar (us 4 were the only ones in the building and we noticed a few tables did not have a "reservation" plaque on them). Country music was blasted throughout the restaurant and we couldn't hear each other that well. The staff was also not that friendly (bartender was great; hosts were rude) and I eventually told my friends to pack up before ordering anything because the energy was just off and I didn't feel comfortable anymore. You might have a better time if you're looking for a sports bar/college game day vibe where you take an uber- not necessarily weekend brunch (bizarre given their aesthetic). Brunch places we love instead: Bread Winners in uptown, Chelsea's Corner in Uptown, Snooze in Preston Hollow, Chefika Mediterranean Grill, Blue Sushi Sake Grill, the Fifth in Richardson, Hg Suply in Greenville and Brunch Time in Plano.
