I came here for dinner with some coworkers on Thursday night. Service/Ambiance: It was very busy but we got a table! The interior of the restaurant is beautiful, with lots of dark lighting and tasteful decor. It's perfect for a date night. Service was fast and our server was helpful with recommendations. Food Consensus: I would highly recommend getting the spicy garlic potato's with toum on the side. This was my favorite thing here. The potatoes were covered in this rich garlicy sauce. The tang from the potato's and the toum are a match made in heaven. I ordered the shrimp plate and it was decent. I turned pescatarian for the month so this was one of the only options on the menu. The quality of the shrimp was lacking and there could have been more charring on the shrimp. The rice, salad, and hummus were good but the main star of the dish was okay. Next time, I would get a meat dish. read more

This is my favorite restaurant in Long Beach! The kabobs and all the food are consistently delicious and flavorful. During our visit, my little brother accidentally slapped my little sister in front of the server, and she started crying. Absolute FIRE. Ordered the open sesame combo and an LBC IPA, the perfect combo for a full stomach. I had so much leftovers to eat when I got home too. Sat outside on the patio with heat lamps and it was amazing. Service was on point with the owner even checking on tables to help out, love to see it! I will absolutely be back. read more

Open Sesame never disappoints. The food is consistently solid and I've always had good service. It's also a great option for vegetarians! I can never decide what to order, so one of my favorite things to do is just order a bunch of small plates to share! My favorite item, by far, is the spicy garlic potatoes. Not too spicy, but absolutely loaded with garlic, cilantro, and lemon! My mouth is watering just thinking about it! Flash fried cauliflower, falafel, and grilled halloumi watermelon salad are some other vegetarian dishes that I would definitely order again. I also really like the Kibbi, although they are a bit small for the price. I do appreciate that they are served with the yogurt dip though! Finally, the restaurant is nicely decorated and it has a beautiful ambiance, but it is super tight! The tables are packed in there like sardines! read more

Open sesame was so good. A few people had recommended this spot and it did not disappoint. Started with the spicy hummus and the falafel. The falafel was so flavorful and moist. It was the best falafel I've ever had. The hummus was so creamy and perfectly seasoned. I tried the combo so I could get a taste of a few things. The chicken breast was so moist and perfectly marinated. The beef was a little tough but still had good flavor. The beef kafta was my favorite. So much flavor and perfectly cooked. I like how you get the option to pick your salad I had the fattoush salad which went perfectly with my food and the rice was perfectly cooked. The portions are great. The shrimp were nicely cooked and the tabouleh was also a nice side salad option. The service was great and the food came out pretty quickly. read more

I used to come here as a kid, and now as an adult, it's such a comforting feeling to know that the vibe, the flavors, and the experience have all stayed consistently amazing. This place was great for a quick dinner after work! I loved the outdoor patio but it got loud very quickly and was hard to talk across the table with my mom. Service was friendly especially because my mom asks a lot of questions. It's also a bit pricey compared to other Mediterranean spots in the area but the food came out fast and was really good though! We both got the Chicken Tawook plate and they brought out a side of pita to go with our food. The chicken portion was huge! And the sides were all tasty and complimented each other really well. Their pita is good and on the lighter/thinner side if you like that. Overall solid spot for Lebanese food! read more

Great service and delicious food. The ambiance was a mood. Seems like they really maximize the seating space. Although it was pretty tight. It wasn't unpleasant. It was almost like one big family gathering. Our server was great and very accommodating and pleasant. The food was flavorful and fresh. Our order came out extremely fast and we were not rushed to eat. The servers made sure we enjoyed our meal and kept checking on us with just enough space. Started off ok the baba ghanoush was good. Got the Saturday Special Lamb Shank it was really bad. Stuck to the bone like glue and was very hard and tough. Was very disappointing for sure. The chicken shawarma had a sour taste the worst I've had. The service was good so that's why I gave 2 stars instead of 1. I didn't want to complain at the restaurant because it was a celebration among friends. I don't like to give bad reviews but this needed to be said. read more

Walked into this Mediterranean place while shopping along the street in Long Beach (which is, by the way, full of things to look at!). Was seated down immediately and served so so politely. Good amount of paintings and decor adorned the walls, enough to enjoy while waiting for my food. Highlights of the meal: - Lamb - so tender and melt in your mouth. Medium rare was the best. The sides paired so well with the meat. - Flash fried cauliflower - their most popular appetizer for good reason. Soft yet full of texture. Flavor-wise, so umami and full of roasty-ness. We both love Open Sesame but have been limited on dining out and honoring our commitments to Whole30 (look it up if you're unfamiliar) Michelle, the most beautiful server- bubbly personality, witty and classy, and very hospitable, made it a very easy dining experience with incredible food. 7/2/23 Waited about half an hour to be seated-so we strolled around the shops by Open Sesame. Cut to the chase, today was awesome anyhow, made possible by Deborah, our server & the awesome Iman, the manager. We're probably on a Lebanese food kick because hubby was just here yesterday. It's been a while since I've had my Open Sesame combo, so it's an easy decision. As per usual. Hubby's RARE beef kabab (kebob, kabob...?) combo. He started off on a side of garlic sauce & pita. Everything was mouthwatering, tasty & delicious. It's impressive how Iman keeps on top of things & ensures every guest is provided with excellent service & hospitality. Worthy of noting, the music is NOT AS loud this time & my husband & I were able to actually have meaningful conversation w/o having to yell or repeat ourselves "too much". I can't believe I haven't tried this place before. My partner and I have driven by it several times but never noticed it! We have definitely been missing out. It was packed so I would advice making reservations or going early and enjoying a walk around the area until your table is ready. The food was amazing!! And just a fyi, if your are looking to get the edge off, definitely order the Paloma cocktail! Words can't describe how good the food was, just take a look at the pictures We didn't take pics of the potatoes but definitely also recommend those with the garlic sauce. Also, great service! Went to Open Sesame for a friend's birthday (party of 5). Joined the waitlist 20 min before arrival - it said 5 min, but we were told 30-35 when we got there. They squeezed us into a corner on the patio as fast as they could, and our waitress was amazing. The long waits for both the table and food, plus being crammed in a corner, were a letdown - especially for the birthday girl. Could've been an incredible night because the garlic sauce? The food and service here was great! Our server was attentive and made sure to check in on us every so often. Flash fried cauliflower- 3/5: This dish was alright for me. Nothing special. It came with some sauce to dip the cauliflowers into. Falafel- 4/5: They were all fresh and crispy. Each bite was crunchy. It also came with sauce on the side. Beef shawarma- 5/5: This was my favorite of the night. The meat had a lemony flavor added on top that made it so good. Beef kabobs- 3.5/5: Personally the meat in this was a bit dry for me compared to the shawarma, but overall not bad if you like kabobs. We opted for hummus and baba ganoush with both salads. All of the options were pretty good and you can't go wrong with any choice! The pita bread came with the dishes and was also good. Open Sesame is a casual but modern Mediterranean / Lebanese restaurant on the busy 2nd street of Long Beach. Whenever I walk by, their outdoor patio always seems full of customers. I am also greeted by the delicious whiff of kebabs and grilled meats. Who can resist not stopping by? My friend and I ordered the Sultan plate and the beef kafta. The sultan plate came with juicy and flavorful lamb chops, grilled shrimp, and wagyu beef. The perfectly grilled lamb chops were definitely the star of the show in my opinion. I am always a sucker for beef kabobs so the kafta absolutely satisfied my cravings. The beef was not dry at all and had a few hints of spice in their flavoring. I came for both lunch and dinner but dinner was harder to get seating all servers were busy including the host until a great person named Imán came to help us and was very efficient found the perfect place for me and my party. I give him 5 ratings because of his quality of service and personality. I had Lamb chops for lunch and Filet mignon for dinner. The Better choice was the FILET MIGNON KABOB. The meat was tender and juicy you can kiss it! You can tell it was grass-fed Filet that came with Parsley, onion, sumac, with good basmati rice. Price $35 while the Lamb was $39. So I don't know if I was over hyping up this place because I do love it. We were going to be in LB and I was so excited to get to this place again I was salivating every time I thought about it. But the last time its seriously lacked. They were packed as usually and so we took a seat at the counter. It took a while for us to even get our drink order in so when we got the chance we ordered everything at once. Starters: The garlic fried potatoes, which just sound yummy. They were good, lots of lemon and garlic and parsley but they weren't crispy :( One of the cooks from the back brought them up to the counter but then proceeded not to place them in front of us but on the waitresses counter so when she got around to serving them to us, they were not crispy. Which defeats the fried goodness of the dish. I mean we were sitting right there was it so hard for the cook guy to put them in front of us. Lift his arm just a little to set it down on the eating counter. Main Course: Chicken Tawook ;Chicken Shwarma Tawook: The chicken was cooked perfectly but let me tell you this time it was under seasoned. This never happens here. I swear this place usually has the most garlicccccy food and I love it. It fell short this last time. Shwarma: My husband had this dish and he usually cleans his plate. He said, "this sauce doesn't even taste like garlic." He was referring to the garlic sauce. The chicken was good in favor but lacked in juiciness. He did end up finishing his plate because it was left in front of him for long enough. Both of us always order extra of the sauce but I don't think that would have helped. Whoever made that batch forgot the garlic. :( I will go back as I cannot give up on the Garlic that I love so much. But I do have to say this was one of my worst experiences here. read more

Open Sesame is always a Belmont Shore standby, and I'm pretty sure it's the most popular restaurant on 2nd Street these days. They'll always have some things I love, like fried potatoes, lentil soup, and pretty good prices. At the same time, they'll always have some things I'm not such a fan of, like long waits, greasy Lebanese dudes with their bluetooth earpieces, and shoddy service. Yet, I find myself going there time and time again. I'll share with you a couple of tips/recent discoveries: Tip #1 - ALWAYS order the fried potatoes as an appetizer as soon as you place your drink order. They are simply delicious, plus, you never know when the waitress will actually return to take your full order. Tip #2 - Don't dine at the corner location at night. At lunch it's perfectly acceptable. At night, you'll feel like a crotchety old man yelling at those darn kids to keep the noise down. Seriously effing loud in here. Also, they have red lights. How in the hell am I supposed to see what my food looks like if it's all bathed in red light. Dammit. Tip #3 - Usually during the long waits, I'll take my pager over to BodyOSoul or Romance etc and browse. I recently discovered Quinn's, which is right around the corner. And the perfect place to grab a drink while waiting for that pager to go off. I must be out of the loop. I had no idea that place was there. As someone who has been fortunate enough to experience a plethora of Mediterranean restaurants, I can confidently say that Open Sesame ranks within my top three, sharing the spotlight with two other exceptional establishments in Portland, OR. The ambiance and food quality at Open Sesame make it a place worth savoring for special occasions, ensuring that each visit remains a memorable experience. The hummus and garlic are truly noteworthy, while the chicken and shawarma burst with flavor. The rice is perfectly seasoned, and the star of the show is undoubtedly the tabouleh. While the pita bread may not be the absolute best I've had, it still holds its own in this delicious array of offerings. Service at Open Sesame is consistently excellent, and even on a Monday night, the wait was manageable. To elevate your meal even further, their wine selection pairs beautifully with the dishes, adding another layer of enjoyment to your dining experience. I have returned to Open Sesame multiple times over the past decade and have never been disappointed. It is truly a testament to the restaurant's dedication to providing consistently delicious food. I went to Open Sesame for a late dinner this past Saturday evening with a group of friends, and was fortunate enough to be the one running late so I didn't have to wait the half hour outside for a table. We were a group of six, and given the smallness of the restaurant I was pleasantly surprised to find that we were comfortably seated at a large booth. I also appreciated the noise level of the restaurant -- conversation flowed easily and we could all hear each other because we weren't battling loud music, other conversations, or cooking sounds. The crowd was fun too: fairly young, casual, and beachy-hip. The food was good, but not the best Lebanese food I've had in Southern California (that's Papa Hassan's, in Orange). I ordered the Chicken Tawook, which was perfectly moist, and was served with hummus, pita, delicious garlic-butter, Lebanese pickles, and salad of my choice (I got the fatoush salad). I also ordered the green tea, which was just okay. My table split some appetizers: the falafel was heavenly, and of course the fried potatoes are also good although not as exceptional as I'd expected from the reviews. All in all, a nice meal for less than $20 and large portions (I took half of my tawook home). I'd go back again, but probably not if I had to wait for a table. read more

I was really looking forward to dining at Open Sesame in Long Beach, but unfortunately, my experience fell far below expectations. Despite its great location and enticing menu, the service and food quality were disappointing. First, the staff seemed disorganized and inattentive. We waited far too long to be seated, even though there were open tables, and our server appeared rushed and uninterested in providing a pleasant experience. It felt like we were an afterthought. When the food finally arrived, it was underwhelming. The portions were small for the price, and the flavors were bland and lacking authenticity. The dishes did not match the rave reviews I had heard about this place, and it felt as though corners were being cut in preparation and presentation. To top it off, the atmosphere was chaotic and noisy, making it difficult to enjoy our meal. It was disappointing, as I had high hopes for a memorable dining experience. I hope management takes the time to address these issues because, with some improvements, this restaurant could be much better. Open Sesame in Long Beach offers a warm and inviting ambience that sets the stage for a great dining experience. The restaurant's decor and atmosphere create a cozy yet vibrant setting, making it an excellent spot for a casual meal or a night out. The service was better than average, with friendly staff and a generally smooth dining experience. However, there were moments when the attentiveness could have been improved, as it took longer than expected to get refills and check-ins on our meal. As for the food, the appetizers were the highlight--both the hummus and baba ghanoush were rich, flavorful, and some of the best I've had. However, the main courses didn't quite live up to expectations. I ordered the beef shawarma and beef kebabs medium-rare, but they arrived medium-well and were on the dry side, which was disappointing. Overall, Open Sesame has a lot to offer, especially in terms of ambiance and appetizers. If they could fine-tune their service and better execute the main dishes, it would be a top-tier dining spot. I'd still recommend it for the atmosphere and starters, but with some caution regarding the beef dishes. read more

I feel like a minority, but this place is not that great as everyone makes it to be. The food is just so so. I am middle eastern, so I know this type of food well. While, I personally prefer the flavor profile and style of Persian Armenian cuisine, I still on occasion enjoy the sharp, tangy, spicy flavors of Lebanese food. We ordered the beef Kabob and Kafta. Both meats were over cooked and dry -super dry there was no moisture at all. The rice if came with was dry as well and lacked flavor. The hummus, salad and yogurt sides were the only tasty items in the meal. For a $50 dollar dinner for two this was not worth it. I will not go back again. The Magic Lamp across the street was much better by far. It was less expensive and the food overall was tastier. Also, I agree with Bianca's comment about the owner. He seems to be some what of a pompous jerk. I have heard this from several people who have met him. Some people will not go back for that very reason. Odd! read more

Ok this place is awesome, I was never a big Mediterranean, Middle East food lover, but this place just totally changed that. I have to thank my friends for bringing me to this place, it opened up my eyes to different cuisines around the world. There was a long wait for dinner, that was how popular they are, and the wait was totally worth it!! This is a decent size restaurant, and yet people still have to wait, it's that popular!! Everything we ordered was wonderful, from the appetizers to the main dishes. We got the chicken tawok and the open sesame, damn that is good!! I tried some of my friends dishes, and let me tell you, anything meat in here is good. Very well cooked, each plate is just flavorful and has the great authenticity of the Middle East! I highly recommend this place, just a wonderful place for dinner if you are feeling adventurous, and getting away from your normal routine for dinner. read more

UNBELIEVABLY DELICIOUS! Chicken, lamb, salads, or deserts everything is always always perfect (you can depend on it). The service and management is terrific too. All worth the wait - YES a wait, but it moves fast and the camaraderie during the wait is good. Also, it allows time for browsing on hot 2nd Avenue. Open Sesame is popular for a reason, it is the best restaurant in Belmont Shore and the best Mediterranean for miles. My favorite is the Chicken Tawook and the tabbouleh. Do save room for the Kanefeh (not sure if I'm spelling this right), it is comfort dessert - warm, creamy, and the right sweetness. The lamp is tasty too and the pita sandwiches are the perfect lunch. I absolutely love this place. I usually go to the one at another location because it's by my befriends place. They have two locations in Belmont shores. I was in there for lunch today on a Thursday and the location on the corner was closed. No big deal, I like the main location better anyway. We were seated right away and ordered the garlic potatoes. They are the best potatoes and totally addicting. We had chicken plates and the chicken was juicy and perfect. This is the best place in long beach for meditteranean food. The service was great and our Lebanese waiter was sweet. He helped us order and kept our drinks full. I hate sitting and waiting for refills. He checked on us in a timely fashion and even though We sat for a while, we never felt rushed. Although a bit chilly today, the patio would be incredible on a warm summer day. I've been coming to Open Sesame with my family for over 15 years, and it continues to be one of our favorite restaurants in Long Beach. It's our go-to spot whenever we're craving amazing Lebanese food, and it truly never misses. The food is always fresh, flavorful, and consistently delicious. Every dish is packed with authentic flavor, and you can tell a lot of care goes into the recipes. Whether it's your first visit or your hundredth, the quality is always the same. Beyond the food, there's something special about a restaurant that stays this consistent for so many years. Open Sesame has been a part of so many family dinners, celebrations, and memories for us, and it remains one of the best dining experiences in Long Beach.
