It's been a while since I found a New American restaurant that I thoroughly enjoyed everything I ordered. Saint & Second just hits the spot for me! For starters, we got the Parker House Rolls, which comes with truffle butter, local citrus honey, and grana padano cheese. These rolls were so fluffy and flavorful. We also ordered the hummus, which was so rich and creamy, and the oysters from the raw bar. For the main, we ordered the Smoked & Glazed Pork Chop, Fish & Chips, and the Wedge salad to share. And let me tell you, that everything was so good. The Smoked & Glazed Pork Chop came with a whole show, where staff would bring out the dish in a smoke-infused glass dome and open the dome when presented on the table so we can smell and see all the smoke. Not only was it beautiful to look at, but it tasted just as beautifully. The meat was melt-in-your-mouth tender, and the rainbow swiss chard, cheddar grits, candied pecans, and avocado honey helped balance out all the juiciness from the meat. They use haddock fillet for the Fish & Chips, which was fried to perfection. The Wedge Salad is what actually knocked my socks off! This was one of the best wedge salads that I've ever had. It had your key ingredients: iceberg, buttermilk dressing, red onion, crumbled egg, tomato, bacon gastrique, blue cheese, dill, chives - but something about this salad was different! It was so refreshing, flavorful--just everything you want in a dish. We ended the dining experience with their Peach Cobbler Hand Pie, which came with streusel, pistachio crumble, salted caramel, and vanilla ice cream. Food was good, the calamari with the Aioli was the best thing I had. The fried chicken was alright alongside the cob salad, but nonetheless it was a good time. Service was phenomenal, our waiter kept on checking in and was extremely polite and charismatic. Ambiance of this restaurant is always cool and collective, along with a slight luxury feel. We just came into have drinks on the rooftop. A member to our party was on the Ada section. The staff member who all the staff claimed was the "GM" margarita walked up aggressively to him and said to get off. He immediately complied and proceeded to then antagonize him by telling him people eat there. He said yes I understand and got off. She proceeded to turn back MULTIPLE times to keep going. She then said you and your party can get out or I can call the cops. When I asked the clear manager in his outfit, requesting who the fake GM was, he along with the Bartender on shift played stupid as to supply her name. Margarita clearly was not a GM but felt that she needed to keep creating an unnecessary situation. The situation was already de escalated when he complied with what she asked. Upscale Restaurant on 2nd Street with Delicious Food I've visited Saint & Second on multiple occasions: for drinks, a casual lunch, and my birthday dinner. Reservations are fairly easy to get, which make it an optimal choice if I'm looking to have a nice meal. The ambiance of Saint & Second is what sets it apart from other Belmont Shore restaurants. There's indoor seating and rooftop seating upstairs, and both areas are designed impeccably. The food menu changes every few months, which is great because it allows the chefs to experiment with new menu items, but I have been left missing past items. When I returned for the third time for my favorite hummus, I found that it was discontinued for a nice, but less tasty green hummus (which leaned more into an avocado flavor than traditional hummus flavor). Overall, if you'd like to return to Saint and Second, you should expect some changes to menu items every few months and plan accordingly. One appetizer I'd recommend is the tuna on crispy rice. This is a consistent item with great flavors that trump other tuna crispy rice dishes I've had at other restaurants. The amount of fish on this item is generous. If you are celebrating your birthday here like I did, they offer a delcious smores-flavored dessert. However, this dessert is not complimentary, and we were charged without the server informing us of the dessert's price. Overall, in terms of food, this restaurant offers a fresh array of menu items. Decided to stop by on a Wednesday afternoon and check out the rooftop. I was not disappointed. Quiet and very breezy atmosphere, the rooftop gives you a great view of the streets down below as you watch people go about their lives. The house Parker rolls were some of the best I've ever had. It has a very doughy interior with melted truffle butter, and top on the outside with local Citrus honey that complements it perfectly. I can have 30 of those. I got the pan seared salmon, which was seared to perfection, giving the skin an extra crispy edge. The fish was perched on top of forbidden rice and served with charred bok choy and pink and grapefruit, and drizzled with a citrus vinaigrette, coconut dashi, and smoked trout roe (eggs). This had to be the most incredible salmon dish I've ever had in my lif - packed with more flavor than your taste buds can process. And I would drive to Long Beach just for that dish again. Located in the old Lucille's building or for those who remember further back, the old Hofs Hut building. This restaurant has a high end modern decor with a rustic vibe for elevated dining. Located on second street in Long Beach in the middle of a lot of great restaurants, Saint Second stands out as one of the best. For an appetizer I got yellowtail watermelon aguachile and the roasted bone marrow. The bone marrow was so good I will be bringing my Brother to try it. For entrees ordered rack of lamb and Asian chopped salad with salmon. The rack of lamb was cooked to perfection and so was the salmon. Seriously no complaints the restaurant was great the staff were friendly and our server Mark was great. Clean and friendly and great food. We went on a vintage thrift hunt in LB on 4th. The row was awesome and very colorful and eclectic. Getting hungry we drove to Belmont Shores 2nd street. Nick's was across the street, a favorite, but wanted to try something new. The Saint on 2nd was a clean upscale place with a cool bar layout and a great upstairs terrace. The food turned out to be excellent. The crispy chicken was so crunchy and succulent. The Korean twist was on fire! I loved it. The steak au poivre was on point. Delicious! The wedge salad was chopped for us and it was delicious and one of the best I've had in a long time. Refreshing, creamy, tangy and the bacon was finely chopped and spread on top. The wine selection was also very nice. My gf had a Rose to start which was very tasty. The Pino noir from Solace was delicious. The staff were courteous and informative. Worth a visit! Reservations recommended for their dinner area on 1st floor. We did place our name on the list however made our way to 2nd floor which was self seating, first come, first serve. I ended up liking the vibe and atmosphere here more, considering the lounge seating, outdoor setting overlooking 2nd street, and music that was played louder but still reasonable here compared to 1st floor. We had the braised short rib appetizer, cranberry chicken, and seared salmon. Such beautiful, elevated dishes, flavorful with each bite. I normally am not impressed with dessert at restaurants but to my shock, the smores dessert was everything and more! Decadent, rich, not too sweet, the perfect balance. Drinks, perfection. Please note this isn't a trashy place. The drinks are elevated, with details and what I hope to be housemade syrups and flavors. Annalise was attentive to us, despite how busy it gets upstairs. She was sweet, personable, welcoming! An absolute joy. As was Juan, who was prompt with checking in on us and making sure our table was cleaned as we did have to switch tables when we got booted out of ours. Came here yesterday for the first time. I was with my daughter and decided to try this place for lunch. It is a great looking restaurant with a nice second floor . You can sit up there and get a nice breeze and people watch at the same time. The service is also great , the staff is very attentive. My daughter ordered the traditional breakfast and I ordered the classic eggs Benedict. My daughter liked her breakfast ,she especially liked how creamy and soft the eggs were. Her dish came with bacon, a couple of slices of sourdough and some fingerlings baby potatoes. I think that is my biggest complaint. The potatoes are just seasoned with Parmesan cheese and that is all . They aren't sliced, they are seasoned they are just too plain. So much you can do with those potatoes and yet so plain. read more

Enough energy to feel fun, but calm enough to enjoy your coffee. I feel I am generous giving 2 stars to this restaurant based on our experience. First I'll mention the few positives of our experience. Our waiter was excellent (I can't recall his name (my bad but he was around 6 ft 4 so if the manager reads this he can identify him) He gave us great service. The ambiance of the restaurant is kinda upscale. That's the sum of the positives for me. We had a party of 4 and we were seated after the hostess finally figured out we were in fact holding a valid reservation for dinner. We were standing in the rather small waiting area far too long while she was like a deer in the headlights figuring out our reservation. I will say the menu is varied and affords some seemingly good choices. We selected 3 orders of so called scallops risotto and one steak&frites. Sounds good, right? The steak&frites were reported as being very good. The 3 risotto dishes are another story. They included only 4 scallops. Each scallop on its own was good though in VERY short supply for $49. As an added irritation the rice the scallops were served on was wet, mushy and not at all like proper risotto textured rice. Not a $49 meal by any yardstick. I don't mind paying for quality but this was not quality. I can honestly say I have never been in a restaurant that was as loud as this. The acoustics were terrible. We had to literally shout to carry on a conversation among the four of us. The seating is so close you are literally having dinner with your neighbor. A bathroom that's not on the second flowould be a nice touch as well. For $200 plus drinks, tax and tip for 4 entrees one would expect more in food quality and noise level. So, if you desire a nice dinner atmosphere quality food and would actually like to talk to your table guests, I would suggest you look elsewhere. read more

It was my first time here. Went here for my friend's surprise bridal shower. They had a cute section upstairs where it was just our party. The decorations and view was so pretty! The server was amazing, took care of us and made sure to refill our champagne and water and clean up. The food was good. From the appetizers to the main dish. Parking is metered parking on the street and I imagine that it would be harder to find parking on a regular day or in the evening. The ambiance is quite upscale and this restaurant would serve well for date night. We ordered the French onion soup, Crispy chicken sandwich with truffle fried and the Fish and chips with regular fries. The French Onion soup was delicious - warm, melting cheese, bread soaked in completely...it was excellent! It was also quite heavy so I'm glad that we ordered only one to share. The fish and chips was surprisingly good. The haddock fillet was cooked to perfection and the breading was light but crispy. The tartar sauce with it was very very good. They didn't provide any malt vinegar. The fries were thin and crunchy on the outside but soft on the inside which we liked. The crispy chicken sandwich was also very good. The chicken, again, had a thin but crispy breading that was beaded with black pepper, chili and I guess, some peanut powder as per the menu. It was lovely to eat. The sandwich was filled with kimchi sauce, cabbage and Korean pickles to give it an Asian zing. The truffle fries were delicious but I would have liked a little more truffle oil. The service was mediocre. The server was ok. They would also disappear right around the time we needed something. It was my first time at Saint & Second and I was waiting for a group of friends, thus sitting at the upstairs bar, but scouting out a large enough area for us to all sit comfortably and the staff, particularly Dave and Ryan K, could not have been any more welcoming and helpful! Really excellent hospitality! Dave went above and beyond in making sure we had options. Ryan was patient and friendly, even after a scammer ran off without paying her bill. He didn't even let it affect his attitude, and I'm not sure I would have adapted so well. He's really a class act. Our group found a great place to sit and enjoy happy hour drinks and food, all of which were tasty (see photos of Butternut Squash Hummus with Pita and Blackened Salmon Tacos). We will definitely go back! Some highlights, aside from the service, were the delicious Sangria and the beautiful view of Second Street from the rooftop bar! Saint on 2nd is a very nice restaurant with a beautiful interior. I didn't realize they also have a second floor overlooking 2nd Street, which would've been great to know ahead of time, but the inside space itself is still very stylish and inviting. The food is a bit pricey, and I honestly think the Yelp price rating should be updated to $$$. The drinks were mediocre, not bad, but not anything special. My wife ordered the Maestro which was a little different in taste. For food, we started with the ricotta meatballs in sauce, and they were incredible, easily the best meatballs I've ever had. We also shared the fish and chips, which were delicious, with fries that were crispy and fresh. Overall, the food we ordered was delicious. Everything we ordered was very good but my favorite was the Burrata salad was my favorite. I had the S'more for dessert and it was excellent. I had to change my reservation at the last minute and the staff was very accommodating. Our server did a great job and was knowledgeable about the menu. Our waiter was very friendly and kept cracking jokes with me and my friends, it was all very good vibes. We typically come here for dinner, but today we decided to come for brunch. One thing about it, the food is never a miss! And that's why we call this cozy little viby place our favorite restaurant. The Smoked Tri-tip Hash was brilliantl flavored. It was seriously so good. And the Pecan Pie French Toast will literally make you drool. I had to pack the rest to-go but it was worth every bite. We sat in a booth in the bar so the service was a little less attentive than preferred but still good service nonetheless because we wanted to take our time and not feel rushed. Came in on a Sunday at 5:45pm and were seated quickly even though the restaurant was lively with guests. Our server was honestly amazing, kind, gave good recommendations, and had the kitchen split our meal onto different plates for us without us even asking. My boyfriend and I split the spicy tuna crispy rice and French onion soup appetizers, and the pork chop entre. Each item we got was to die for. Even though there's tons of seating both indoors and out, the restaurant tends to get pretty crowded on weekends. I recommend reservations. That's what I do. The first time I visited, I sat at a booth downstairs and ate an expensive burger. It was ok. The last time I visited, I sat outside on their second floor patio and ate the chilaquiles.
