I had been wanting to visit Tarantella for quite some time and the opportunity presented itself a couple of Saturdays ago when I found myself all dressed up with no where to go after attending a networking event. I decided to check the Resy app to try somewhere new besides the 3 restaurants across the street from me, and surprisingly found an opening at 7:45pm on a Saturday night! I walked there from my house so thankfully did not have to worry about parking. I felt completely comfortable from the moment I sat down. The atmosphere is warm and casual, there was live music and a lively group of people on the covered outdoor backyard. My server was lovely as well, attentive, but never felt rushed. Everything I ordered was delicious and perfectly paced. I started with the fried artichokes which I had never had before, but I love artichokes thanks to my Italian grandmother. So light and crispy. Then I had the caprese, what a stunning salad this is! The avocado was a bit random to me as I have never seen one with a caprese before and it was hard as a rock, but still ate the whole thing. I ordered the pasta alla routa Cacio E Pepe which I did not realize was $65 upon the time of ordering, but that's on me for not looking that closely. They told me ahead of time when it was coming out so I could video it being made inside the cheese wheel if I wanted since they couldn't come to me being that the backyard is covered in rocks. Thought this was nice since I paid so much for it, may as well be able to share the experience with others. I enjoyed two glasses of sangria with my dinner and finished with some pistachio gelato. All in all a great experience, I just wish the pasta was like $20 cheaper but lesson learned. We sat down, ordered and waited about 50 minutes (might have been longer) for our food to come out. We only ordered 2 items. I had to ask the waiter two times about the status of our order. By the time it came out, we took it to-go because it was approaching bed time for my daughter. In that ~50 minutes while we waited, I saw an older white couple who came in after us, get drinks and their food served long before us. I also saw another white couple (younger) who came in after us, get served drinks and their food before us. It was far from being a busy night too. There was definitely a level of discrimination against us. If you stop by nowadays you can tell their business is suffering because of how they treat people. It's almost always empty. Be advised! Food was good overall but I feel a little hostility from server we ordered the Alfredo in the wheel unbeknownst to us that's a 65$ plate that gets an automatic gratuity added to your bill. When it arrived it was just a slop of cheese sauce and noodles we didn't see the wheel and when I asked about it she said that would be 1000$ pasta to see the pasta made or brought out ?! When we walked out we saw it and the host or manager apologized and said we could sit inside and see it when it's made but I don't think I'll be back the server was cheeky with us. Tarantella on 4th is located on retro row snuggled in the middle of the block. Don't walk to fast because you might miss it, like I did. When I walked back I don't know how I missed it because there's a seating area in the street. When I walked in I saw a small area with tables and chairs. I walked to the bar area where someone was there to check me in, we were seated right away. Our table was out back where it is set up very cozy; one of the employees told us they have live music on certain nights so we planned to go back to enjoy it. When you sit down they offer you warm bread and grass fed butter. Our food was good, think it mostly would taste better the next day. I usually enjoy pasta much more on the second day as the flavors have set in. Parking is a challenge, as they do not have a parking lot; there's metered street parking but you may need to drive around to find an open spot. Let me start by saying I'm Italian. I know good authentic Italian food... and this place is it! We happened to stumble across this on the RESY app. Parking on fourth street is an issue, yes! But don't let that stop you. It's totally worth checking this place out. I was impressed by the Parklet seating in addition to the inside front. There was one waiter serving ALL the tables, and to my surprise, he did a great job with such attention to detail. Overall, he was a delightful, professional waiter. The additional servers were so efficient, polite and on top of their game. We started with the flat bread: Wonderful crust, incredible roasted garlic paste with a habanero cheese that was not overpowering. Such a nice balance of flavor. The two of us devoured it. Enjoyed my peach Prosecco which appeared to be a Prosecco with peach nectar, perhaps? Not sure exactly, but it was very refreshing and not too sweet. The cioppino was out of this world! It's so hard to find a good cioppino in Long Beach. It had so much depth of flavor with a little hint of spice and the seafood was fresh! My partner wiped his bowl clean. My dish was the parpadelle in a lobster sauce. The pasta tasted homemade, the bits of lobster (about 6oz) were carried throughout the dish where I experienced a wonderful creamy lobster flavor in every bite. I usually take home what I don't finish, but I couldn't stop eating it. Lastly, Chocolate Spumoni ice cream bomb is a must to try. Priced well at $10. Great quality in this dessert all around. Unfortunately, when we arrived, our table had already been given away, and we had to wait another 10 minutes or so. That said, once we got past the initial hiccup, things really turned around. This is a very cozy and intimate spot for dinner or a date. The interior is alright, but it's the backyard patio that steals the spotlight. They have quite a cute setup back there with string lights, plants, and live music nightly. While the live music was just 1 guy playing the saxophone, it was still a vibe. We booked this place on resy to utilize my amex credit. In the front it looks just like any other small italian resturant but the real charm is in the back. They even had a live performer playing the saxophone with cute decorations. I got the sirloin steak, fried risotto and lobster pasta. I think the fried risotto was definitely worth it and the pasta actually had a good amount of lobster chunks. The steak was very interesting with the sauce they used. However I think the sirloin cut or they might have slightly over cooked it. The meat was slightly rough but that's alright everything else made up for it. The service was very quick and food came out in under 15-20mins. Great vibes for dates or double dates but the rocks that they use is slightly annoying since the chairs and tables sometimes are uneven. Truly everything here was so tasty. The outside patio is so cute but the reason it got four stars is the fly issue outside. Even thought they try to give you small motor fans, we were always fighting off the flies. The bread at first is so soft and toasted. With butter it makes the best appetizer. I tried the moscato de azi and omg it was the best tasting moscato I had in a while. If you're looking for something that basically tastes like great juice get the whole bottle. I got the entree with lobster in it and it was really good. I like things a bit salted so if I had a sprinkle more it would be divine. It was very flavorful and not too tomatoey, the flavors balanced well. One more critique is that I usually see larger servings at most Italian places in comparison to what were served, especially at the price point. But without that truly I would still come back and keep trying the rest of the menu, I would just recommend placing a reservation inside if you don't want to deal with the flies. Service was fine. Love 4th street and tried a lot on the street, Tarantella was one I had not so I made a resy and tried it for the first time fresh bread was served first with some butter and a couple drinks pretty good beer and wine selection. Our waiter was very knowledgeable of the menu and the specials they offered and explained them very well. We sat in the lil patio area which is neat lil pebble rock floor with tables and chairs and makes it feel more personable. Food was good I tried the Ragu and the chicken lemon dish with capers. I was being less than positive about going back to Tarantella on Fourth, as it is now called, since our previously frequent visits had not been occurring in the past year or so. But Mr. Mama's Meatballs was yearning for Tarantella's version on his birthday and his other persona, "Mr. Get There Early So We Can Park, Then Leave Early" was in full gear. When we arrived the holiday streets were chaotic with revelers. Parking was worse than ever. Although we were told reservations are not usually necessary at that early time, three other birthdays showed up. ahead of us. It wasn't looking good. A true cluster- - -. Was I ever wrong! I'll never win the lottery, it's just not the way things work. But we did hit the jackpot for this birthday celebration. Now run by wonderful Mario and his wife, they have made Tarantella better than it had ever been. The brunch menu was inviting and the dishes we had, lemon ricotta pancakes and spaghetti carbonara with chorizo were inspired excellence. From the rosemary garlic bread to the delightful birthday cannoli and the scrumptious sparkling rosé everything was perfect. We felt like family and it was apparent the other customers were feeling the same. We made reservations for Valentine's Day dinner here and were surprised to learn, only after arriving, that the restaurant was offering a preset menu for $90 per person. That information wasn't communicated ahead of time, and it's a significant price point that not everyone expects or can accommodate. It also limits options for people with dietary needs. We decided to stay, but the experience didn't justify the cost. The seating was extremely close to other tables, leaving very little room for privacy or comfort. As for the food, both entrées were disappointing--my fiancé's dish was underwhelming overall, and mine was so heavily salted it was essentially inedible. Dessert was also not enjoyable. For roughly $350 for two people (including 4 glasses of wine) we expected a much higher level of quality. We've spent only slightly more at other fine-dining spots with cocktails, better food, and a much nicer atmosphere (hello Sky Room). Service also felt disorganized. We waited about 30 minutes for our salads, and staff eventually asked if we had received them (suggesting they were forgotten). On top of the high preset price, a 20% gratuity was automatically added for a table of two, and we were still presented with an additional tip screen at payment. Having worked 11 years as a server, I understand the industry, but this felt excessive and poorly communicated. I read a review from last year's Valentine's Day having the same complaints as us this year (2026) although the restaurant did improve on giving customers 2 appetizers instead of 1 shared appetizer from last year's fixed menu. Additionally, our second course was given to us after our entree since they forgot about it. Then our dessert also came out later than expected when they forgot about it, but when we did receive it, it was frozen! When calculating the price, each course costs about $20 each which is INSANE. I will say, the servers were polite and apologetic, but it still doesn't take away from the bad experience we had on a supposed special day. I suggest an improvement on managing tables, having a better system on running the food out on time, and being more attentive to tables and asking them if they need anything would be a small change but a great improvement as we didn't experience any of this during our visit. read more

Small, local Italian restaurant. Cute front and back patios and small interior dining area. Very intimate and cozy; great for a quiet date night or a casual evening out. The night we went there was live music in the back patio and the vibe was just so upbeat but mellow. They have a nice wine list and provide fresh bread for the table. My friends both ordered the lamb special; it was a huge portion and the meat was tender and flavorful with mashed potatoes as the side. I ordered one of their pappardelles and it was delicious; perfectly saucy, with their house made pasta. The meatballs were also great and I loved their slightly-bigger-than-bite-size and the sauce they were smothered in. The service was warm, attentive but not overbearing. I had an issue with my wine tasting off and they replaced it promptly without issue. I appreciate this a lot because I hate complaining but I also don't want to pay for something that doesn't taste right. Everything feels fresh and simple, it's a great place overall. This is the first time I've ever written a review, but after this experience, I feel it's necessary. My fiancé and I made a reservation for Valentine's Day and were looking forward to a special evening. When we arrived, we still had to wait about ten minutes to be seated, despite having a reservation. The staff appeared disorganized and poorly coordinated from the start. At first, we were hopeful. The atmosphere was genuinely nice, the live music was excellent, and the outdoor scenery created a romantic setting. Unfortunately, the tables were placed extremely close together, making it difficult to have any kind of private, intimate conversation. The biggest surprise came when we scanned the QR code menu and discovered it was a $90 per person preset Valentine's Day menu. This was not communicated to us beforehand. That is a significant price point, and it should absolutely be disclosed in advance. While the menu sounded interesting on paper, the food was deeply disappointing. The salads tasted store bought. The caprese appetizer consisted of two tomato slices, a bit of pesto, and mozzarella. I ordered the beet gnocchi, and when it arrived, it was about 20 pieces of pasta sitting atop some pink sauce, not something I'd expect to see as $90 prix fixe entrée. My fiancé ordered the stuffed chicken, which was extremely dry and seasoned like airport food. Service throughout the night felt chaotic. We got the wrong appetizers, corrections took a while, and the pacing felt off. By the end of the meal, we were ready to leave and asked for dessert in to go containers. Instead, they brought out the seemingly store-bought frozen cheesecake on plates. We could literally feel frozen bits of cream cheese as we bit into it. The final frustration came with the bill. A 20% gratuity had already been added automatically to a table of two, which came out to roughly $40 on a $230 bill. As someone who works in food service, I understand tipping culture, but nothing about the service that evening justified an automatic gratuity at that level. It genuinely felt like it was several staff members' first day. We paid and left as quickly as we could. The only reason this review has two stars is because the scenery was beautiful and the live music was excellent. I have nothing but positive things to say about the musician. I'd like to believe this restaurant may perform better on a non-holiday evening, but based on our Valentine's Day experience, it did not meet expectations, especially at that price point. read more

We sat in the back covered area with a few trees and heaters. I'm giving this place a 4 because the quality of the food was very good. My wife ordered the butternut squash manicotti and I had the Pappardelle Norcina. The serving size was plenty and the pasta was nice and light. The manicotti was a special that had a good blend of sweet and savory. It was on the specials menu which strangely, did not list any prices. I'm not giving 5-stars here and frankly, I won't be back even with my 4-star review. First the service was slow - strange for a night when there wasn't much going on. But most importantly, the place is too damn expensive. The manicotti (with no price) ended up being $28.50 and mine was $24. We didn't order drinks or dessert and with the two entrees, tax, the credit card charge of 2.5% and the tip, the bill was just over $71. I can make two plates of decent pasta at home for much less than that and as good as the food was, neither it nor the experience, was worth second trip. read more

Both breakfast options (which were a surprise for me to see they have) as well as the lunch/ dinner options were extremely good. I also really liked the space. I want to start by saying I have been here three times so far in the past month... If that doesn't say something then I don't know what does! From the first time here, the service, the ambience, the FOOD! has all been amazing. The owner has been so hospitable and knowledgeable. It is a smaller restaurant, but they do offer indoor seating and the outdoor patio... Which I always sit in the outdoor patio. And on Sundays from 630 until closing, they have a live saxophone player. I do not eat meat and a lot of the dishes have meat in them. The owner has always gone out of his way to suggest options and or create something that works for me. I have tried white wine, lemon sauce, the Alfredo (not the fresh wheel) , and the wheel cacio e Pepe, and versions of Marina. All really good! The cacio e Pepe is so rich and cheesy! Wish I can give this restaurant more stars! I love coming here it's my favorite place for authentic Italian food! LOVE the calamari & the seafood pasta is one of my favorites! The staff is always friendly and are great! Their dessert is also bomb too especially the tiramisu. Always a 10/10 when I come here I highly recommend this place! read more

Sincerely enjoyed my experience here! Me and my friend had a long day at the beach and were very hungry. Little Coyote was closed so we decided to try out Tarantella. It looks crowded in the front but it has the most enchanting and beautiful little patio in the backyard. There were candles on every table - and someone playing a live saxophone! The food itself was a bit cold - but overall really delicious and enjoyable. We took home the soft rosemary bread to enjoy with leftovers later!
