I feel bad as I thought I already reviewed this market last summer and was going to update with a…read moresecond thumbs up. So, going back in time to last summer, my better half wanted to purchase quality meat for a men's group (it was his turn to cook). We were in DeMotte to stop at an antique store that he wanted to visit and he saw the sign for this meat market as we drove past- so we decided to stop. Aptly named - yesteryear is correct. It is like one time travels back to a time when butcher shops were where one stopped for meat purchases (not the big box super stores of today). The pace is easy going yet efficient, employees make eye contact, can do proper math and make sure you know your business is valued. We purchased Italian sausage and Polish sausage (enough for him to feed 30 hungry men) - I'm confident he stole the show with best meal ever when he made the sausages with onions and peppers. The owner (Wyatt) went out of his way to help ensure the right quantities were purchased and safely packed for a bit of a drive. We stopped in again a couple days ago - Owner Wyatt took the time to chat with us a bit - he remembered my better half from last year. The genuine customer interest is obvious. Team behind the counter - quick, efficient and friendly. We eyed the steaks (again) - maybe next time. So hard to pass them by - its only a matter of time until we try them. Also - I saw a sign that they do serve lunch specials and also a larger family Easter dinner that included ham. Their Italian beef is a popular party favorite and they have soups in the freezer case which I am pretty certain are made there on the premises. The beef bologna will impress you too - made on the premises - this isn't the prepackaged stuff you see in supermarkets - the flavor will wow you. If this guy can make good ol' beef bologna a showstopper, you know the rest has to be a class act. Also saw pickled Brussel sprouts and some other interesting goods on a shelf plus some large candles right as we came in. Nicely done on so many levels.

Good quality meat and other things They do a great job…read more Wyatt is a chip off the block

If you're a foodie and an early bird, this is a good stop in downtown Naperville; they open daily…read moreat 8 am, even Sundays! This shop, home to many varietals of olive oil, vinegar and other gourmet goodies, shares space with Dark Horse Pastries, so you also have your choice of baked goods. They also sell a small array of wine and beer, and products from other local companies such as chocolates and honey (creamed raw raspberry honey, anyone? Sounds good to me!) You can taste all the varieties of oil and vinegar. Like it spicy? Pick from habanero, jalapeno or red pepper oil! Want fruit flavor? How about Mexican Lime, Meyer Lemon or Blood Orange? The balsamic vinegar came in an array of interesting flavors, including Dark Chocolate, which I think would pair well with strawberries! I liked that there were larger and smaller sized bottles to choose from (small size was 5 oz). They also sell a modest range of dip mixes, mustard, pesto, pasta, and assorted other treats. The addition of the bakery in the same building makes this shop a little different from some of the other gourmet places around here (note that there are several other places in downtown Naperville that specialize in this type of product). It's slightly hard to find (go down the alley between Potbelly and the yellow house building and it's in the courtyard behind), but worth looking for! Staff was friendly but not pushy, and quite "on" for early morning! :) Note to credit card users: if you spend less than $5, an extra 50¢ charge is added.

I've since visited this store twice - once when they first opened and once a few weeks ago. Their selection of balsamic vinegars in different flavors are fresh and unique for the area. I really like that they have spicy oils too, which are my favorite! They have testers with bread of each product so you can test your favorite before purchasing! I don't find their prices too be that expensive either! I would definitely recommend supporting this local business downtown if you're in need of some fresh oils or vinegars!
