Lovely winery! We did the exclusive wines and it was definitely worth it. The Cabs were very flavorful.

Visited Opolo on a recommendation, had an exemplary experience. The tasting room was busy, yet we were given excellent service. Wayne served us, he did a fantastic job! He is knowledgeable and inquired what we were interested in, then guided us through their amazing wines he believed would suit our taste. The other staff deserve mention as well. When Wayne was off to get wines tailored to our palate, more than one checked in to ensure we were being well served. This is a winery to be visited when planning a trip to the region. read more

Went here last weekend at the recommendation of a friend and winery owner in El Dorado county. Probably our favorite place we visited! The staff was very attentive without being pushy and the wines were awesome! Enjoyed a pizza on the patio as well. We joined the wine club and will be back again for sure! read more

I hosted a tasting for 14 of my friends and clients of our restaurant. Naturally I wanted it to be perfect. Unfortunately there was a mix up (our fault) and no arrangements were made. However, the winery hostess (sorry I didn't get her name) was extremely accommodating and rectified the situation without a second thought. A disaster turned into a fabulous time. This was a good venue for a tasting, but our tasting felt rushed and not as personal as some of the other vineyards. Despite that, we were still given the option to taste some options that weren't on the tasting menu and ended up purchasing a couple of bottles. read more

The Mountain Zin was one of the best wines I've ever had. I normally prefer a Cab to a Zin, but the Zin here was excellent. I bought a bottle and have split a case with a co-worker who's a member here. The staff is friendly and welcoming. I'll definitely be back in the future. Tasting room and patio very busy this afternoon despite the cold weather. Tastings are relatively inexpensive considering the number of wines to chose from. There are wine club only wines which are poured as well which makes it nice for non-club members to see what's also available to them. Staff was great. Chance did a really good job of making sure everyone at the wine bar was being taken care of. He was knowledgeable, professional and fun. read more

Your representative was Nicki and because of her williness to answer many of our questions and the great wines we tasted, your business will be a frequent of ours. I once managed a Customer Service Center and Nicki is the kind of employee that will keep you coming back. She was pleasant, friendly and accommodating. Been here many times over the years. I feel its going down hill. Don't waste your time going anymore. The wines are average and better can be found all over the central valley. The food is extremely expensive. The server was down right mean. I know my wines, and I don't need to be told I'm wrong about my opinion of flavor. Had a great time wine tasting with my wife and son, who turned 21 this year. We met Rafael, who turned us over to Bevelina, a true treasure. She started us with an excellent white, a Pinot Gris. We then tried several reds, including a Sangiovese and a Syrah. Bevelina brought us a couple of nice blends, promising to end with sparkling wine she really likes. But we we had to try our old favorite, their 2013 Mountain Zinfandel, which didn't disappoint, and their Forte Zinfandel, another good wine. This winery is worth the drive! I didn't try a single wine here I didn't like. $10 for a tasting, waived with the purchase of 2 bottles. Bottles averaged around $20-30. Staff was welcoming and was willing to stray from the tasting menu if there was something else you wanted to try. Will be back! read more

Fantastic bed and breakfast. Rooms were spacious. Very large balcony with plenty of room to eat outside. Breakfast was made to order. The nightly appetizer plate was superb. As for the wine and tasting room. Excellent. All of the staff was very accommodating and made you feel like family. The Albrino wine was one of our favorites. read more

Just checked in as well, but I was so pleased with the warm welcome and happy demeanor of the women in the tasting room. The lady helping us immediately saw us walking in and welcomed us. Winery seems pretty commercial and mass market but def seems like a fun vineyard ...a place to come out and hang out, drink some wine, eat some pizza and chitty chat with folks. We came during the wine pairing saturdays and while we came on the early side, i could already picture a backyard bbq party. There was a guy offering free samples of italian and cevapi (serbian) sausage and round picnic tables surrounded the patio. There were pizzas and wraps which were yummy especially with a glass of wine. We got the cevapi sausage pizza which was $20 and came with a glass of wine...Pizzas were yummy but not sure i'd categorize them as gourmet. We shared a tasting although none of the wines really stuck out although we ended up buying a cab which could be a decent everyday drinking wine. Was kind of funny but there was an empty Nebuchadnezzar(?) bottle that folks kept on asking to take a picture with. read more

As a disclaimer, I'd like to say that there are a few things I look for in a winery. First and foremost is the wine, particularly if the quality is worth the price. Second is the customer service, as this will affect my experience at the winery. Third is the atmosphere, which the winemaker and tasting room pourers often have the least control over I'm lucky enough to go to college in the area, so I've been to Opolo twice. Their Mountain Zin is a BIG deal. It's their flagship wine, which is why they save it for the end of the tasting. Tasting fee is $5 for 6 wines and is refunded with purchase of a bottle. Their wines are very fruit forward, which is common for the area (though not all people prefer this type of wine), but it is why their Mtn. Zin is such a hit. I also really liked the Grenache. They have a very extensive list of wines they produce, and you should feel free to ask to taste things that are off menu. Most times they are totally fine with it if they already have a bottle open, and if it is a varietal you are fond of (for me it is Cabernet Franc) then it is quite worth asking to taste! Most of their wines are around $20-35 per bottle, which is common for the area. I find the combination of their quality and customer service to be well worth it (you can find their wines for much cheaper at local grocery stores). Opolo is by far the most casual and friendliest winery that I've been to in all of Paso. On both visits we were immediately greeted and beckoned over to a place at the tasting room bar by one of the pourers. Though it was quite busy, we didn't have to fight to get up to the bar. On both visits, the pourers have been quite friendly and very knowledgeable. They are very willing to go off of the tasting list and let us try back to back years of the Mountain Zins (it was awesome that we could actually taste the difference between the two vintages). I've heard they have a very good BBQ, though I have yet to try it. They don't have much as far as atmosphere goes, but that might actually add to the appeal. It feels as if you're in a warehouse with an informal tasting bar. All of the tasting room staff has a uniform Opolo polo shirt on (which I find rather comical compared to other wineries), but it just adds to the casualness of the winery. The focus is on the wine and the customer service. Overall it was an awesome experience and I'll definitely be back! read more

I visited this tasting room/winery recently with a buddy of mine and let me tell you folks. Since I think the people who serve the wines change from time to time, I'd like to be fair before I give this review. My buddy and I got there and of course this is a huge tasting room that's out of control. Having said that, they charged us $ for a tasting which we thought was not that big of a deal. Well, this guy asked us to pay for our tasting before he served us so we did. Once this guy took our money we never saw him again after the first tasting he served us. I thought this was bad. I looked around and there were several servers which I flagged to serve us. Now, in most wineries we visited we NEVER had to do that. Here they were out of control and more concerned for taking people's $$ than serving them and letting them taste their wine. Which by the way, it's not bad wine. Opolo actually makes some good wine but the experience with getting someone to serve us was so POORLY executed that after a while we changed tables. This guy with a big bandage on his finger/hand served us. It ws only him and he was serving w/one hand and he did better than the guy with two hands in a busier environment. I bought one bottle of wine and this guy had the nerve to ask me if I had paid for my tasting. As if one can get any tastings at Opolo without paying in advance. I gave this guy the dirtiest look and I said "NO ONE WOULD"VE served us had we not paid. This was the first thing we did - PAID FOR OUR TASTING. Then they were BBQ ng outside and it was free. Well, there was no one out there for a long time. It was a disaster! This is the reason for my 1 star. If there was a "0" star, I'd used it to describe my experience here at OPOLO. read more

This was our second visit to the winery and it completely tarnished our view of the place. We were refused a tasting the moment we walked in, based on one person (who was finished tasting/drinking), and it left us feeling more than disappointed and embarrassed. It's rare that we take a trip to Paso Robles to indulge in wine and fun, and it's a shame that the winery I told my group about ended up being the greatest disappointment and the last of our trip. I will be canceling the membership (per manager Meghan's recommendation) we signed up for and won't regret it one bit. As a business owner, I understand using discretion to refuse service to customers. However, refusing an entire group and ruining everyone's time the moment of entrance is unacceptable. I won't return, and I won't buy the wine ever again. It's truly a shame, but customer service really does make or break a place. Paso Robles has much better wine and service to offer than Opolo. read more

Wow! What a great winery. We enjoyed it so much we joined the Wine Club.

This was our first visit to Opolo which was recommended by people we met at two local (Santa Cruz area) tasting rooms. It is about a 5-mile drive on Vineyard Drive off Hwy 46 West. We enjoyed their wines, especially the Mountain Zinfandel and the Cabernet Sauvignon. The $10 tasting fee is waived with purchase of 2 bottles. Meghan was very pleasant and informative regarding the wines. We would recommend checking out Opolo if you have not already done so. read more

I love Opolo wines and have been a member of their wine club for years. Their harvest dinner is great fun. But I cannot abide the service I get from their shipping company - Golden State. I am seriously considering canceling the wine club altogether and just buying wine annually when I'm in the area. read more

The wines are just OK and the tasting room feels like a big drunk party. There are clearly a lot of people who like that kind of atmosphere but it wasn't my scene. Too many people, the staff isn't attentive, and the feeling of the tasting room is really kitschy and corporate. That being said they do have pizza and it can be hard to find food when you're wine tasting in those parts, so might be worth a try while getting a bit to eat. read more

I love the wine, love the Pizza, love the ambiance but who the hell is Roger?! What a jerk, how condescending can a person be, Tricia Roddy, my Daughter in Law has had a 4 bottle membership here for 4+ years and we have enjoyed the wines immensely. After a 2 year absence we go on a vacation to Pismo Beach and we can't wait to go back to Opolo wine tasting as members. As soon as we approached the bar, Roger started in, you can't stand down there, come over here, these people will move over, really? Then we introduce ourselves as members and start looking at the members only list on the back of the menu. ROGER literally took the menu out of my son's hands and turned it over and promptly informing us this is the side he'd be serving from and when HE was ready we would go to the other side, Are you kidding me?! It got worse, we all told him we didn't like Malbec and he insisted on pouring it because his was so different. So we all poured it out. At this point my son left the tasting room or he was sure he would lose it with Roger. We just kept pouring out the wine until he finally got to the wines we really wanted to taste and knew we liked. My daughter in law will cancelling her membership right after this last shipment. Have Roger go down to Turley Winery and take some classes from Cathy, now that was a great experience. What an pleasant oasis in the rolling hills of vineyards and orchards! Our small group of cyclists stopped for the BBQ (and a bit of Mountain Zin) last Sunday and were treated to a delightful lunch and tour by the friendly staff. Paul Quinn, son of the founder, and James Schreiner, gave us a grand tour of the property, including the dramatic, 360 degree view from the hilltop lawn where they host special events.
