I was a loyal Oso Libre member for more than five years. That ended after my most recent visit. I brought seven family members to the winery, excited to introduce them to wines I'd enjoyed as a member. When we arrived, I learned that groups of seven or more get charged an extra $10 per person--a $70 fee that essentially wiped out my complimentary member tastings. Six people? No charge. Seven? That'll be $70. What?! For literally ZERO increase in service or experience. They're walking around a table, pouring a thimble of wine in a glass...that one extra person apparently necessitates a $70 fee. Here's the kicker: we were the only people in the tasting room for the entire two hours we were there. No crowd to manage, no strain on resources. And our group bought nine bottles of wine. The "thank you" for bringing in new customers and making purchases was a surprise $70 surcharge. I emailed to cancel my membership, thinking someone might reach out to try to keep a five-year member. Instead, I got a polite apology and a cancellation confirmation--from the GM and Winemaker, no less. No offer to waive the fee, no credit, nothing. They let a long-time member walk over $70. I noticed another Yelp review complaining about this exact same policy. So it's not just me--and apparently that feedback hasn't prompted any change. That says a lot. In a region overflowing with great wineries that actually value their members, I can't recommend this one. Policies like this, combined with zero effort to retain loyal customers, tell you everything you need to know about how they view the people who support them. read more

A little out of the way, but a nice spot and very interesting wines. Service was excellent and our host was helpful. Winemaker was also there and we had nice conversations with him. While all the wines were good, the GSM was (for me) a standout interpretation, but I just couldn't bring myself to paying $75 for a bottle of this Paso Robles wine!! read more

Such an amazing winery. If you are new to Paso Robles wine scene or a returning customer Oso Libre needs to be on your list of places to stop. The views of the vineyards are awesome, the wine is impeccable and the staff is awesome. Each time we go we have a great time and are well taken care of. read more

WARNING: Oso Libre will take advantage of you and next thing you know you'll have a lot less cash! They're dangerous! How do they do it? By serving amazing wine, being super friendly, and just creating a great environment to have a fantastic time. My cousin, who lives in the area, suggested my wife and I go here, and she was spot on. We had a lovely time tasting the wines here, and liked nearly every one of them, including their chardonnay. Wife and I are generally aren't fans of whites, but that chardonnay was divine! We confirmed we weren't nuts that day when we had a bottle of it with friends and family on Christmas, and they concurred it was excellent. We also really enjoyed almost all the reds we tasted as well. We liked them so much that we joined their wine club. Definitely recommend visiting Oso Libre if you're in the area! You won't be disappointed. read more

Stopped by @ oso libre this January on my mom's trip . It was an amazing experience. We enjoyed all the wines but our favs are Chardonnay, patron, and carnal . Our highlights were learning about the history of the winery, trying wines outside of the menus, awesome customer service and singing . We will definitely be returning. Our favorite winery ever!!! There is nothing quite like their wines...full of flavor and simply divine. We love their philosophy of how to grow the vines that make this delicious wine, their heart for community and their charitable heart. All this makes for an outstanding tasting experience. Their tasting room is cozy and they offer patio dining that overlooks this amazing property. Their customer service is always five star and their venue causes us to stop and take a deep breath and pause while enjoying the best wine ever. We love chatting with Michael (the wine maker) and the rest of the staff. Kelsey and Melissa are awesome, too. We miss chatting with Zuri (she's behind the scenes now). Let's just say we walked away with our fairshare of wine to take back home to Idaho. We were fortunate enough to visit during a quiet time, so wine tasting felt like a private experience! We sat outside overlooking the property and were greeted by a friendly, knowledgeable hostess who educated us on all things wine-making. Food isn't provided for purchase, BUT they have a fun little convenience cooler with cheeses and meats to pair with your wine tasting experience. The grounds were both kid and pet friendly, which is always a plus for families who don't want to miss out on central coast wineries during their visit to the area. This gem of a vineyard definitely caught my eye and taste buds! I immediately fell in love w the wine, the vineyard and view as well as the staff. I loved it so much, i joined the wine club! I was fortunate enough to meet the owner and he was super friendly and welcoming. But the view...the view is incredible! You can take a bottle and sip while you overlook the gorgeous vineyards! If I could give negative stars I would. I can't express how weird and bizarre and how frankly, absurd our experience was. My sister used to be a member of this winery and raved about it. We did a walk up with 4 adults and 4 children. They said because we had more than 7 people it would be an extra 10 dollars per adult and $5 per child. An extra $60 to do 4 tastings we were already paying for? We said no, we will just separate and do 2 groups of 4 to avoid the fee. They literally said "no you can't do that. We already know you know each other". What!? I said but we are not giving you more work or needing to put tables together. They said it was a new policy and they know we came in together so it's this or nothing. They said they didn't have enough staffing so need us to take on their poor business plan by paying extra. They said they had been burned by people making reservations for large parties and canceling. I said we didn't do either? We just walked up. Why am I getting penalized for something we did not do. We said no, we will not pay for your poor planning and left. I am a member at multiple wineries and have never seen such a thing. Just tell us you are full next time due to poor staffing. Don't have the patron pay extra to sit. And we would have bought wine too but to pay an extra fee on top of our tasting fee because you didn't plan well for your staffing? Absolutely not. read more

100/100 if I can rate this place more than 5 stars I would. First of all, Everyone here is friendly, EVERYONE! I first came here with my husband at the beginning of 2020 on a birthday trip. I saw this place and made my husband divert from our original route to stop by. I was not disappointed at all. I love Bordeaux wines and if you're like me I recommend you come here, you will not be disappointed at all! The second visit here a few months later we decided we needed to become members, every single wine we tasted we loved so much. We left this winery with 6 wines that same day. Less than 4 days later my husband ordered 4 more online to be shipped to our home. Primaroso, Querida, Quixotic, Reserva. All of those are top notch, we have multiples bottles of the same wine in our home. Our last visit just recently was probably our best! We were helped by Zuri or Zuridia and she definitely understood us, she was knowledgeable, attentive and very personable. She had a way to make us feel at home and honestly that how we feel every visit. It is our home away from home. I can't rave enough about how great this place is and we are truly happy to have found a place in Paso Robles that we truly enjoy and can come back every visit. I've been to many excellent wineries in the Paso Robles area, but Oso Libre just wasn't one of my favorites. The wines are good, but they're not worth the price in my opinion. Of course, wine is a highly subjective drink, so this is just my opinion, but I'd much rather drink wines from other wineries in the area. Oso Libre's wines are also priced at the upper end of wines in the area. However, I did really enjoy the charcuterie plate that my SO and I got at Oso Libre; great variety of cheeses and other items (like olives and speck). It's definitely worth the $20. Our tasting attendant was also very nice, so that was another plus. Overall, I'd go if you're in the area and want a tasting, but I don't think it's the best of the area. Still, the wines are good. read more

What a great place! This is a working ranch also. We were greeted by the winemaker, Michael, himself once we started our tasting. Melissa who did our pouring was knowledgeable, engaging and just fun to interact with. We couldn't believe it but the owner, Chris pulled up obviously had been working the fields and spent 20 minutes chatting with us, he even recommended a restaurant to us. We left with a bottle of wine and some Italian sausages ( they were amazing). When we got home we joined their club and can't wait to attend one of their events. We always treat our out-of-town guests to tastings at just a handful of wineries - culled from the hundreds of local wineries - based on wine selection, tasting room, quality of service, grounds, views, and ... that special something. Oso Libre is settled in its own beautiful little vine-filled valley, providing a breathtaking backdrop to their tasting room and patio area. They offer a number of delicious wines - Osezno Zinfandel and Querida are especially good. The tasting room is eclectic and intimate, but this winery is a definitely a destination, so don't be put off by the crowds; when your turn comes you'll be well taken care of. If it happens that your visit falls on an afternoon they're BBQ'g their pasture-raised estate beef, you're in for a treat. The burgers on brioche bun, whole-grain mustard, aioli and arugula salad are mouthwateringly delicious, and can be paired with one of the table wines available; or have them open your bottle of choice to enjoy with your meal. Good wine, good food, enjoyed with special friends in a beautiful location makes for a memorable and sensory-filled experience. Lovely tasting room and a picturesque vineyard, but we went on Sunday, September 15th, and very underwhelmed by the lack of attention by the staff member in the tasting room. True, he was working solo, but did basically the bare minimums with us, but found a lot of time to chat and accommodate a local couple that were members who arrived a few minutes after us. I also was a bit disappointed seeing a tray of cheeses on the counter behind him and not being offered any, ev though it was our first visit to the winery and even after we purchased 2 bottles of wine. We actually almost regretted making the purchase based on the interaction. FYI, the website makes it appear as if they an array of animals on site, but other than the 4 beautiful alpacas, we only saw a few sheep grazing. read more

Oso Libre is a funky winery with a funky name. The name comes from the owner's name as an homage to the Spanish heritage of the region. They are located along Vineyard Drive west of Paso Robles. Parking can be a bit tight, but it's also shaded! The winery is nestled in a small valley with the tasting room overlooking the vineyards and a wind turbine. You get a tasting menu full of their eclectic varietals showing off the region. Most of the wine is good to above average with a lot of Rhône styles. Staff was friendly, but seemed a little overworked on an average Sunday. For me, the wine was a bit overpriced especially with a two bottle minimum purchase requirement. The tasting room was nice, but it also seemed a bit too eclectic compared to most Paso wineries. Free your inner bear at Oso Libre! read more

We came on the weekend when they were grilling burgers. It cost $15 for the tasting and the burgers were around the same price I think. The website said burgers until 3pm but our friends told us they were stopping at 2pm instead (they were there before us), so that was weird. It was super hot but they have lots of covered patio space and plenty of water. Dogs are invited on the patio and they have water for them too. The wines we tasted were all great, I really liked them. We didn't go inside because of the dog, but they did bring wine out to us for the tasting which was nice. I would have liked to have seen the tasting menu as I can never remember all the info they share, but that's cool. It was nice and I'd come back here for sure. read more

Unfortunately we had to drop these guys..Be aware they ship wine club shipments during extreme heat waves. When I contacted the wine club manager she was so utterly indignant, I decided there and then that we would be leaving their wine club. I could not fathom why they wouldn't reschedule their shipment during the worst heatwave of last summer 2019. I reached out to the owner who seemed friendly enough, but was left utterly unsatisfied with my experience. He seemed to joke about my frustrations and accuse me of disregarding emails. So my wine sat on the truck extra days, during the heatwave. They also dropped the ball with communicating delivery and shipment dates.. Again the wine club manager refused to accept responsibility. Not sure how this is so difficult with the ease of today's emails... My wife and I will always love Oso's wine, but they clearly have an accountability issue in their wine club and it was quite a bummer in the end. read more

This is as good as it gets. Came to the winery because I've found people raving about their wines elsewhere on the interwebs and now I understand why... The wines were amazing enough not to need to drink it. You can just eat them with your nose. I am part of wine club that orders from Oso Libre Winery. We enjoyed every single bottle from Oso Libre Winery, so we had to see the place for ourselves. The winery is a modern gem amongst all the wineries. The facility is eco-friendly and the surrounding land is stunning. You can see cows and other farm animals in the distance. Our favorite wine was called Carnal. It had light fruit notes and tasted liked it would go well with every meal. Staff was friendly and engaging. We saw signs for monthly bbq events and look forward to going to one in the near future. Oso Libre is oh so good! read more

Wonderful winery! It felt like we were in Napa! I visited this tasting room 2 days before Christmas. Santa was here, fake snow was falling, and mulled wine and hot chocolate was being served. The owner chatted with us for at least 10 minutes and we had a great time with John tasting five very different wines: viognier, zin, cab, bordeaux blend, and rhone blend. I highly recommend stopping by this tasting room. The vineyard is sustainable in practice, and they use renewable energy (wind and sun) and sustainable agricultural practices. read more

Extremely busy wine tasting room! Staff seemed very overwhelmed. Took awhile to even get acknowledged but once we did things ran smoothly. Owners introduced themselves, shook our hands, and were very talkative. Even when we were outside the owner came out and explained about their winery. They use sustainable farming such as having Olde English Babydoll sheep, Blank Angus, and free range chickens that roam the vineyards to keep the ground free and clear of weeds and of course they poop out natural fertilizer! When the cows are old enough they are butchered and the meat is sold at the vineyard. I wish I lived close enough or had an ice chest because I would of loved to purchase some of that beef! They had owl houses set up around the vineyard to take care of pests. 100% of the electricity is from their wind turbine and solar panels. Wines are in the $20 to $40 range. Tasting was $10 for 6 tastings which is waived if a bottle is purchased. My favorite and which I purchased was the 2008 Primorosa which is a mix of 34% zin, 30% cab, 28% syrah, 4% grenache, 3% Mourvedre, and 1% petite syrah. It was a very delicate tasting wine. I also bought the 2007 Querida which is 100% estate Cabernet Sauvignon. This was an elegant wine and I was blown away by it. I can't wait to open up that baby! The owner said that wine is his pride and joy and has won the most accolades. The price reflects it! FYI... they have two dogs at the winery and they will make themselves known to you as soon as you get out your car. read more

I went back yesterday for a revisit. When we walked in the person who worked there, Reggie, said hi and for about a minute kept doing what she was doing on the register. But afterward she was nice and polite and gave us a full description on the winery & wines. My major concern from the last time was the service, so Reggie stepped it up one star, but I still didn't feel overly welcome. I am a friendly person, but just felt like I was doing them a favor by being there. I did have a chance to do a full tasting without being elbowed around on festival weekend. According to Reggie the 2011 Volado was what a Viognier was supposed to be like every other Viongier was bad. I thought it was too sweet for a Viongier and not crisp enough. I did think that the 2009 Quixotic was a very good Cabernet Sauvignon, but also felt the $45 retail bottle price was around $15 over what it should have been. It seems a number of Paso wineries are pushing their average bottle cost up and loosing sight of the real customer. I am not hip, but I love wine and love to share my wines with my friends. I would have been hard pressed to buy even a bottle of wine here especially at the prices they have them at and feel there are a number of smaller boutique wineries who give a more complex wine. I am not putting down this winery, but do not feel it is as good as it thinks it is. read more

Mixed feelings about this place. We got here and were greeted by a inebriated man who gave us some information about the wine we were going to taste. The wine was okay, but when the next wine came to taste he told us to dump the wine from the glass on the ground and poured the new wine, that mixed with the taste of the old wine. He then came back with saucers of cheese cubes and oyster crackers that you would get at snack time at preschool. However, at the end, the owner came to talk to us and was very nice. This redeemed the place and deserved an extra star on the rating. Lastly, the scenery was really cool and we could see the sheep and cows grazing in the grass. read more

What a treat this place is! As we parked our car to meet up with my family we were welcomed by two dogs named Patron and I think the other dogs name is Ruby? Anywho they were sooooooo sweet I fell in love with them and spent most of the time to get their attention then drink the wine! They did a bbq the day we went and made burgers which were so amazing! Everyone there were so nice and it was someones birthday and the owner made sure that everyone knew her name and sang happy birthday to her.
