We had Optima repair and Replaster our pool after rebar/rust leaks started showing through the old quartz plaster in several places. Our pool is 22 years old. The owner, Tom, is very conscientious, and suggested revising a couple of the less than ideal plumbing issues that had made it hard to make the cleaning system work, over the last 22 years as well, unbeknownst to me With new more powerful venturi in-floor pop-up replacements , as well as new tile, it looks like we have a brand new pool, and I couldn't be happier! After having a different local pool company do work on my pool for a couple years, I had Optima pools put in a new pump for my system. The new pump works great but what I was impressed most about was he reset all the setting to the returns and stuff so my pool actually worked at 100 percent efficiency. Tom with Optima built our pool in 2022. All of the work was done to our expectations and Tom was very responsive to our needs. It took longer to build our pool because of limited supplies (shotcrete) but Tom kept us informed throughout the build process. The communication was very good, and I would recommend using Optima Pools for any new pool builds. read more

After the work was completed I went to write this review and couldn't believe the negative reviews based on my experience. There are always two sides to every story.... Anyway, I employed Tom to do a complete pool remodel which included the addition of a sun shelf in the pool, completely replumbed and upgraded cleaning system and added LED lighting along with re-landscaping my back yard which included Travertine and artificial grass. Tom impressed me with his attention to detail and held the contractors to the highest of standards. On more than one occasion he had contractors come back and address areas he was not happy with and honestly things that I hadn't noticed until they were pointed out. Tom demonstrated above average competence and knowledge in all facets of my project. I was kept well informed throughout with timelines and completion dates which instilled a great sense of confidence and satisfaction. I never had to worry about anything! Tom went above and beyond throughout and the final project came to completion timely. In the end, my pool and yard are amazing and the talk of the neighborhood! Lastly, Tom came in below budget which is inconceivable to me considering the finished product. I'm giving one star to this company. The owner of this pool company Tom is very unprofessional. He is the used car salesman of days gone by. He will make promises to you and unless you get it in the contract he will insist that he never said it He acts like a child and play games with your money I have a pool equipment wall that is so wobbly. Tom could never give us a exact date or time when parts of the pool would be completed. Tom will call you at 6am and say they are coming, but then his guys come so much later. We waited and waited on shot Crete because he would only go with one company and did not trust anyone else. So we waited and waited ect...I was the main contact but yet he never called me or returned texts. Forget about the saying the customer is right... Tom will yell at you in your own yard and treat you like his way is the only way He also put the flush out valve in so it shoots up high and floods the backyard. He talks about the other pool companies in a negative way but then acts the same way There are many pool companies out there PLEASE DO NOT GO WITH OPTIMA POOLS Please make your decision but stay away from this 1 person company. We are so disappointed in ourselves for not doing better research on this man and his company. Now, after doing more in-depth research, we are seeing negative comments, concerns and complaints about Tom Bessette and Optima Pools, LLC. He and his workers performed poor quality work on the rebuild of our pool. They repaired rebar that was coming through the pool floor. Well, it is still surfacing through. He is not abiding by the warranties listed in the contract. He is saying he did not repair 'that particular rebar' that is showing rust spots. We expected all faulty rebar to be repaired. One of our biggest complaints about Tom is his customer service and poor quality of work. There are cracks throughout our pool deck. Some are large. We have chunks that are missing around our pool. It is not stated in our contract how long the pool deck warranty is. We are assuming, because of the Arizona heat, only a few years. It was 2 years and 8 months that we made our first phone call to him about our concerns and complaints. It took him an additional 10 months to come out to our house to address these concerns. We first reached out to Tom about our concerns the beginning of July 2020 (our pool remodel was complete in November of 2017). It took him to the end of April 2021 to finally come to our house to address our concerns. YES, 10 months! It took him 10 months to come to our house to address our concerns! He had excuse after excuse for not coming out (It was too hot, let us wait for the weather to cool down, he was busy working on the other side of town...). When he finally came to our house, he told us that none of our complainants were under warranty. It was 2 years and 8 months after our pool was remodeled that we called him with our concerns. Even if the warranty was for 2 years (which is not stated in our contract), we feel as an "honest, caring, reputable" business owner, that Tom says he is, he should have covered the concrete work, which was obviously done poorly. He told tell us that he did have a guy who could do the repairs at a decent cost though. Have you heard from the guy? Us either. Another complaint we have, and have had since day 1, is the huge gap between the tile and the pool deck. We have mentioned that to Tom throughout the pool remodeling. He said that the deck would expand and that the deck will eventually 'meet' with the tile and that there would not be a gap. Not true. 3 1/2 years later, there is still a huge gap. For that he is continuing to say that the concrete is expanding and contracting and that it will eventually settle. Meanwhile, water is getting behind the pool. That cant be good. Under the description of his company, he describes himself to be very friendly, helpful, caring and attentive, before, during, and long after the completion of the project...that is an out and out lie. Those are some of our major complaints. He is extremely unprofessional, is reneging on things that are in the contract, does not follow thru on promises or agreements, does not return phone calls in a timely manner or sometimes not at all, has unprofessional, unqualified people working for him. He literally had an argument in front of us, with one of his employees, and fired him in our backyard. He also writes about himself that he is a hands-on guy, involved with all operations personally; that is another lie. He hires unqualified, unskilled workers to do his work. He is hands on for the signing of the contract and the exchange of money, only. After our pool was complete, he asked us to do a yelp review on him. We were not pleased with his service, so we did not. We thought, at the time, that no review was better than a bad review. We have definitely had a change of thought after working with him regarding our concerns at the present time. Our major complainants now are dealing with his customer service and warranties, though we were completely dissatisfied with his service from the beginning. We let it go. We just were not going to ever recommend him to our friends, neighbors and family. However, with our recent dealings, we find it necessary to let as many people as possible know about our experience with Tom Bessette and Optima Pools, LLC. It took him 10 months to address our concerns then to tell us nothing was covered in our warranties. Again, he was unprofessional, unreliable, rude and disrespectful. He has a million and one excuses on why he could not come to our house in a timely manner. Learn from our mistakes, please do your research before using a company for a major repair. If you google Optima Polls, LLC, his last post on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram was in 2017 and his websites can no longer be reached. He has 1-star ratings and complaints on revdex, google reviews and yelp. Tom and his business might have been good 50 years ago, as stated that is when he started his business, but that is no longer the case. We did our research a little too late. It is true I did not select this company, I selected a top rated one. As to his pertinent questions, he hounded me on our pool cover which was not in work scope, he continued to press me on what my plans (Optima does not work on auto covers) were with the cover, I again told him that was not relevant and I then said, the cover is not why I called Optima Pools, this rude owner then replied, well then why did you call us, please be aware folks that this conversation was after an employee came to my home and wrote out the scope of the job, measurements and all....days had gone by without hearing a peep, I had to chase Optima down, and the above took place. I have been using Tom to clean and service our pool for years. We also used Tom to replace the PebbleTec beam around the pool with flagstone and it came out beautifully. We have recommended Tom to our neighbors and Tom is now taking care of their pool. Tom has always been fair and honest with us. We will recommend Tom to anyone that is looking for pool care. Began using Optima Pools over a year ago. Residential 20,000 gallon pool/ spa. They transitioned us out of our salt cell pool system and have maintained our current system ever since. They are honest, friendly, show up when they say they will, bill fairly, and are quick to communicate if we need to replace parts as normal wear and tear occurs.
