What a day? Woke up with all these plans, but I lost my contact lenses. Talk about a bummer. Couldn't see. Started calling around to different offices to see if anyone could help me in my emergency. To my dismay all the reponses were, "let us call you back." or "Can you come in next week?". No way I wanted to see sooner than that. After continuing my search I finally came across Dr. Hwang and Love Optometry. Man, was I lucky, he said he could see me same day. So I didn't hesitate, ran over for my appointment, funny enough I pass his office everyday, its quietly located off Yale and Trabuco. He was so informative, sat with me and explained my condition and the entire process he will undertake. Throughout my entire visit he reassured me that everything would get resolved, provided me with temporary lenses until my prescription comes in a few days. Don't wait this guy is AWESOME!!! David is an honest optometrist who is not trying to screw up my vision to make money on glasses. I'm so glad I got a recommendation to come here. As soon as we started my examination, David asked me a few questions about my current prescription and questions about my vision. As he was doing the exam, I let him know I was not wearing my contacts that day. He was surprised and let me know that I did not actually need glasses! While my vision is not perfect, it was not bad enough to require glasses and that by wearing too strong of a prescription my vision was getting worse. Previous optometrists likely were just trying to sell me glasses not caring if my vision got worse. While he did not recommend I get any glasses, I did ask for glasses for night driving and working late nights. He obliged but he warned me not to use them unless necessary or my vision would degrade faster. He also has a variety of Asian fit glasses, so they sit higher on the nose bridge. Dr. Hwang is the absolute best optometrist I've ever had. He is so knowledgable and really takes his time to explain things and is so passionate about what he does. It's really hard to come across a doctor who genuinely cares about the well-being of their patients and takes time to explain everything thoroughly and I've been coming here for the past few years and the process has always gone extremely smooth. Dr. Hwang is very punctual and I was in and out in no time. Also I've never liked doing the machine where it shoots air into your eyes, but this one was quick and painless and he got it in one try, whereas other doctors I've had took like 7-8 times to get it right. Then he performed a standard eye exam on me to give me a new prescription, and showed me close-up pictures of my eyes! He diagnosed me with Pterygium (surfer's eye) and handed me a tiny bottle of steroids to treat it. I didn't even need to stop by the pharmacy! So great right? Then he gave me a bunch of tips on how to keep my eyes healthy and educated me on the health of my eyes. Didn't try to sell me on anything at all and honestly I had a blast (he's got humor!) Dr. Hwang is the absolute BEST eye doctor I've ever gone to! I highly recommend him! I had an eye infection for 3 months. I was unemployed and desperate to get my eyes cleared up. How could I look for a job with one eye totally red? I went to 4 other doctors that did not help me. I was prescribed an arsenal of eye drops by the other doctors, but none of them worked. I was lucky enough to run into Love Optometry because they have their office right down the street from where I recently moved and they helped me fix my glasses weeks earlier. I called Dr. Hwang to see if he could help me. He took me in immediately and gave me the most thorough eye exam I have EVER had. The first time I had to see him was on a Sunday after my aunt's recommendation. Turns out I had an eye infection (again). My 6yr old wad sitting next to his older brother while he hammered a rock on a Saturday evening. Well a piece of the rock flew into my 6yr olds eye and he started screaming. I called Love Optometry ( because seriously who else is open on a Saturday night??) and the doctor said bring him right away. It was our first time there and I was blown away. He had to pull the microscopic rocks out of his eye with tweezers and my 6yr old had zero discomfort! ZERO! We walked in, he took him straight back, numed it and went to work. He showed me pictures from the microscope and kept rechecking to make he didn't miss anything. Yes he is young but by far the most impressive eye doctor I have ever been to. I've been going to David (Dr. Hwang) for years and I have never been happier with the consistent service I get at Love Optometry--just exceptional! Although through the years I have moved farther away from him, I don't mind driving over 35-40 minutes just to see him. David is not only is good at what he does, he is very informative. He explains how your eyes are doing, how I can improve the health of my eyes, how they've changed, and why. What he does during your typical eye exam, he explains. He gives me all my options on what he can do for my vision, without selling me on things I may not need. I'm a poor college students and he is always helpful to find options that are suitable for my budget. Never have I had a eye doctor that told me what was wrong with my eyes in detail, until I came here. Normally, an eye doctor would just tell my vision as gotten worse, adjusts my prescription and sends me out. Even my ophthalmologist, whom I thought was amazing, did not do as good of a job as David. Through the years, I had a difficult time getting a prescription, since it was always blurry. I had optometrists prescribing me with a ridiculously strong prescriptions, and it was still not clear. I just thought it was "normal" to have this blurriness. I was studying one day and I could not get my vision to cooperate with me. Even when I tried to read without my glasses (I'm nearsighted by the way), I could not. That all changed when I came here and David explained to me that I had a undiagnosed, uncorrected lazy eye that was getting worse. This explained the double vision and blurriness that I have been struggling with all my life. David has been working with me for years in correcting my lazy eye, which is extremely hard to do in adults, if its even possible to do. Also, David has been working with me in maintaining my vision and astigmatism--it's been stable so far! Yay! He's also great with last minute appointments..... He was very fast but explained to me what each test was for, his reasoning for his recommendations and what kind of habits I have that can be causing some symptoms etc. without even asking him, he wrote and gave me a copy of my prescriptions (which I know a lot of places give you a hard time for) and gave me two different types of contact lenses to try at home before ordering. He even told me I don't have to order from him but if I do, they can give me 2-3 more pairs that they get from the manufacturer as samples but he said I always give it to my customers. I found this place because I was desperate for an ophthalmologist on a Sunday because I had an infection that wasn't clearing after being originally misdiagnosed as pinkeye. I walked in and although they were fully booked they were able to squeeze me in between patients. Just like all the other reviews state, Dr. Hwang was great! He thoroughly examined me and seemed to know exactly what was wrong and what kind of infection I had. He proceeded to tell me that my previous prescription was causing an allergic reaction and applied an ointment in my eyes that brought me much needed-long awaited relief. He wrote me a prescription for the ointment and an antibiotic, since it was developing into a sinus infection. So happy I found this place! read more

I called this morning with a horrible eye infection that was incredibly painful. They squeezed me in WITHIN AN HOUR! I couldn't believe it. This is the best optometry office i have ever been to. Yes its small and they don't have marble flooring. But they do have Dr David! My daughter and I both had exams. He explained what was happening with our vision in a way no other DO has. He took time to counsel us both on our options based on our lifestyles and needs. He even discussed the +/- of filling my prescription online and re-wrote my prescription so that I could understand it better, so that I didn't screw up the online order.
