This place was very good until I caved and said yes to having them mail me my contacts. They sent them to the wrong address and after I called and said I never got them they did say they would refund my money. No refund to date. Oh and yes they have my new address or they would not have been able to charge my card. Sad I will be going to another place now. They are good but they hate if you use 1-800-contacts. Sure enough, I walked in 10 minutes before closing time - I've seen countless stores lock up well in advance of their posted closing time - and they fixed my glasses right there on the spot FOR ONLY $3! I was on vacation this summer in Long Beach and broke my glasses while there. The frames were shot but the lens were still good and I was getting a new prescription when I returned so I didn't want to buy a whole new pair. They were so great and spent about 30 mins looking through every frame in the store to find one my lens would fit. He made a mistake by hiring a rude staff and hurrying with my exam. When I came back to have a problem with my perscription corrected he did not give me a follow up exam instead just used my old prescription (WHY not refund my money back) and then I opted for the High Index lenses instead b/c they should be thinner he doesn't even comp. me the extra charge makes me pay an extra $50 for something I wouldn't need if he would just cut the polycarbonates thinner which is possible based on ALL my other glasses and then he tries to charge me $15 MORE for UV protection. Final Note: Don't let his Bundle deal fool you he's just as expensive as the other guy. Rude staff with no knowledge of glasses or eye care and unable to compromise even when he makes a mistake. Dr. Decarlo earned his five stars with me because he diagnosed an allergy problem that I'd been suffering from for over a year. I'd previously visited an ophthalmologist in Los Alamitos who was incredibly gruff and impatient with me and my eye complaints. She labeled my problems "dry eye" and said they had to do with aging. I must have looked at her funny because she glared back at me and said, You're aging. You're aging! Loud too. Anyway, Dr. Decarlo did not deny the fact that I'm aging, you're aging, we're all "aging" but did say that I had no sign of dry eye and that my constant discomfort had to do with allergies. He worked very hard, adjusting medications with me, until he found the perfect combination. Thanks to Dr. Decarlo and his his good., thoughtful work, I do not have to send my two cats away to live on a farm. read more

Today was my first visit to Dr. DeCarlo's office and I couldn't be more pleased! The staff is absolutely wonderful and very helpful! They do a great job of making you feel welcome and I didn't have to wait at all. What's great is I couldn't get an appointment at my normal eye doc so I called here and said I could come in the very next day! A huge plus!! Considering I don't have insurance and have to pay out of pocket, it can be a little pricey but not much more than my other optometrist. Also, if you are a contact lense wearer or are considering, you will have to pay extra for the lense fitting but it includes one pair of lenses to take home. This is pretty regular for most eye places. What impressed me most was the fact that he found out my previous eye doc was giving me too strong of a prescription!! Three times too strong!! The office is very organized and clean and although I didn't pick out glasses, they seem to have a good selection. I will definitely return!! read more

I first saw Dr. DeCarlo about a year ago when I thought that I had something in my eye. It was very irritated and watering like crazy! It was right before the Fourth of July holiday and late in the day, but Dr. DeCarlo agreed to see me. Every other eye doctor was either already gone or couldn't see me on such late notice. It turned out that I only had an abrasion on my eye and thankfully there was nothing in it. While I was there I had him do my prescription for my eyes. I wear trifocals and at the time he suggested that he could make a pair of lenses that were specifically designed for computer work since I do a lot of programming. I just went back last week and finally ordered those lenses he recommended for the computer work. It is such a huge difference!!! Everything on my screen is now crystal clear and the strain on my eyes seems to be greatly reduced. I wish I would have ordered them earlier. Everyone in the office was very helpful and pleasant and my new glasses came in without a hitch. Thanks Dr. DeCarlo and staff!!! read more

Every time I have questions or concerns, the receptionist is always very rude. Dr DeCarlo is very nice and courteous, but the rest of the staff not so much. I always feel rushed when I would come in, I wish the lady in the front would lighten up. Especially since the office is hardly ever busy. But then again, go figure why its not so busy. read more

What TERRIBLE customer service this place has. I have been coming here for years, never had a payment issue and have VERY good insurance that covers everything. I am moving and still working with the same company, my insurance will not lapse, but I can't get verified until tomorrow, so they won't see me today.... When I set the appointment they knew the issue and said "no problem, we will make it work", then call me YESTERDAY to tell me I can't come in after all!! Someone is NOT communicating here very well. On top of it all, I would have gone in another day (like tomorrow) BUT the doctor isn't in any other days.... Their solution, pay 100% up front today and refund me tomorrow... SERIOUSLY!? Just Nevermind...Sad when establishments treat good patients poorly! Remember the best marketing is word of mouth and people are more likely to tell others when they've had a bad experience vs a good one... Bet they didn't teach that in optometry school! read more

I've been going to Dr. DeCarlo for a few years now. He is very thorough and easy to get an appointment with. He gave me excellent advice when he diagnosed a cataract in one eye, but instead of going with a referral from him, I researched the Internet and went with a different doctor to have the cataract removed (Dr. Diana Kersten) and it was a nightmare. I should have listened to Dr. DeCarlo and gone with one of his recommendations instead! He is a great doctor and would highly recommend him. read more

All the staff I have talked to are very nice such as Maureen at the counter and Olivier who is very helpful in picking out frames that look good on you. They offer Prada as well as $99.00 frames. I have been wearing glasses for 25 years. I have lived all over the country. At times my glasses get a little bent or need tightening. When possible I would go into an optometrist and as a professional courtesy they take a minute to straighten and tighten my wire framed glasses. I now have solid frames so there was no straightening needed. A simple tightening of the screws and off I go. I talked to the receptionist and she asked if I purchased them at their location and I said no. She told me they would not be responsible if they broke. I had no problem with that and handed her my glasses. Just as she took them she said there is a 5 dollar charge! Come on are you kidding me!?? There are multi hundred dollar prada's and other flashy bling bling in there and they want 5 bucks for a minutes worth of their time. Just to note I was the only person in there. I work around the corner and keep forgetting to stop in until last Friday. I do need prescription sunglasses and I was going to inquire about that while I waited for the tightening but if they want to nickel me forget it. Come on a non current customer is INSIDE your brick and mortar business and you run him off. How about this scenario. Non-customer walks in asks for tightening. How about, sure we can do that. But normally we charge for that. Normally we charge 5 dollars. Today I can waive that fee for you. Do you work near here? When was the last time you got your prescription checked? Do you feel your current prescription allows you to see comfortably? Do your children wear glasses? When was their last visit? Dr Decarlo has been an optometrist here in long beach since 1994.He even does lasik, have you ever thought about lasik?
