We've had such wonderful experiences at Opus One, and it's quickly becoming a yearly tradition for us! Our first visit was while the winery was undergoing renovations, so we weren't able to experience the entire property. When we returned last year, we finally got the full experience and it was absolutely worth coming back for. We were able to tour the winery, enjoy the beautiful property, and try their new menu of small bites alongside the wine tasting, which made the experience even more special. A huge part of what made our visit so memorable was our host, Gregg. He was incredibly welcoming, knowledgeable, and personable, and made the entire tasting feel relaxed and enjoyable while still being informative. We enjoyed our time with him so much that we'll definitely be requesting Gregg for every future visit! My husband and I brought two friends here for the wine tasting, and it was such a classy and memorable experience. We all loved it! We started with fantastic caviar paired with champagne, which was a beautiful way to begin. Then we went into the stunning glass room for the tasting itself, where we were served three small bites. The duck liver mousse was hands down my favorite--it paired exceptionally well with the Opus One 2012. That pairing was absolutely incredible. After the tasting, I had such high expectations that I asked my husband to book the four-course lunch for the four of us. Unfortunately, this was where the experience fell short. Given how delicious and thoughtfully paired the tasting snacks were, we expected the lunch to be just as impressive. Unfortunately, all four of us were disappointed with the food and overall lunch experience. The biggest issue was that the lunch felt very rushed. Our first course was removed from the table before we had even finished eating it. I've dined at 1-, 2-, and 3-star Michelin restaurants, and I've never experienced a plate being cleared while we were still eating. For a four-course lunch at this level, we expected a more relaxed and attentive pace. The wine tasting itself was exceptional, with beautiful presentation, great pairings, and an elegant atmosphere. The Good: From the moment you step into the second floor, Opus One feels undeniably luxurious. The space is warm and refined, with soft lighting, rich carpeting, elegant fireplaces, and plush sofas that invite you to linger--though, notably, we never had the chance to actually sit in them. Our host was pleasant and accommodating, adding a touch of warmth to an otherwise formal atmosphere. The Not-So-Good: Having visited wineries across Napa, Sonoma, Temecula, Central California, and even Italy, we arrived with high expectations--especially given Opus One's steep $125 price tag for just three tastings. Curiosity got the better of us; we wanted to understand the hype behind such an expensive experience. The approach to the property, however, felt surprisingly underwhelming. The exterior lacked the charm or grandeur one might expect at this level. The first-floor lobby stretches deep, with a hostess stationed behind a podium at the far end. While professional, the welcome felt stiff--almost overly serious--missing that inviting, celebratory energy you hope for at a winery. We were escorted upstairs via elevator and seated at tall tables in front of the wine counter in the tasting room. The tasting itself felt a bit impersonal: all three wines were poured at once, accompanied by informational cards. The guided experience came afterwards. Among our group of four, the consensus was clear--the 2019 reserve stood out as the best of the three, though even it fell short of being memorable. The other two selections, both from 2022, didn't leave much of an impression. Afterward, we were presented with a price list that felt as bold as the reputation: bottles starting at $210, many exceeding $400, and some climbing well into the $710 range. Given the tasting, the value simply didn't align. One unexpected highlight came from getting slightly lost on the way to the restroom--which, for what it's worth, is not easy to find. That detour offered a closer look at the estate's opulent interiors and a glimpse of a stunning circular staircase, unfortunately roped off from use. The visit itself was brief and, ultimately, underwhelming. There were no gardens to stroll through, no outdoor spaces to take in the scenery--nothing that invited you to slow down and savor the setting. Overall: For a winery with such a prestigious name and premium pricing, the experience felt surprisingly flat. What a beautiful place. From the moment you arrive to the moment you leave, the entire experience feels elevated and thoughtfully done. This was a true wine tasting experience. We were hosted by Therese Keating, who greeted us with such great energy and a warm, welcoming demeanor. She immediately made us feel at home and truly enhanced the experience. Recently toured this operation prior to our sampling. Their operation is so precise and methodical. Some of their tools are very unique and if I remember correctly, they are the only two vineyards in Napa that have such tools to process. Staff, Cory, is knowledgeable and provided an in-depth overview on the history, wine, and vintage aging process. Inside is beautiful decor with a brutalist flare, almost like a James Bond evil villain lair which is pretty cool. Love the barrel room. Picture doesn't do its justice. Came here August 2025 for my birthday. There was construction going on and unfortunately all the olive trees that made an impressive entrance pathway had been cleared out. Service was excellent. We were promptly checked in with a glass of champagne to welcome us. We were brought up to the beautifully decorated, ornate tasting area with an indoor and outdoor area. We chose to be indoors because of the very warm weather. We did the wine and small plates pairing. There was a menu tastefully printed with descriptions of all the fresh ingredients. The food was truly art. We were given a poetry hand out that was biodegradable with wildflower seeds embedded to plant later in the spring. How special! Looking forward to visiting again! read more

From the outside, the property is underwhelming and looks like a Costco warehouse. To be fair, construction on the front entrance was still underway when we visited. The interior is designed to feel like a luxury hotel. It's clean, uncluttered, and filled with high quality materials. The tour was lovely and ended with a tasting. I was attempting to do 40 awesome things/bucket list things before 40 in the last year of my 30s and going wine tasting in Napa was one of them.. so I just knew that if i was going to do it for the first time, I would have to do it with my all time favorite wine ever.. Opus One. They sure know how to welcome you in. The place gives off a very elegant, majestic type of vibe to it. Huge walls, none of those cheesy souvenirs or random decor. The place is quiet, peaceful and allows you to just savor the wine, I get goosebumps just thinking about it. Sure it's costly but you are getting to taste some of the most delicious wines ever. Our host Caleb was superb. He had a great sense of humor while also being professional. He was informative and also allowed us to have our fun. If you have non drinkers, which is totally fine! they will still have to pay a small fee to be able to join the group. But don't worry, you will get some snacks (their cookie/biscuits were DELICIOUS!) as well as some tea. We had the 2010, 2014 and 2017 tasting as well as Overture. I had hoped that I would be able to purchase a full glass/pour of my favorite after the tasting but unfortunately that was not the case which is why I ended up deducting a star. read more

Yesterday we visited Opus One, and what an incredible experience it was. What truly made it stand out, though, was Kevin Sheedy, the winery ambassador. He went above and beyond to make our visit memorable and was by far the most knowledgeable person we met across all the vineyards we visited. It was a nasty rainy day and we didn't have any reservations for tastings. We were running late for a wedding, but a friend asked us if we could order him some Opus One since we were in Napa. We explained the situation to the people at the front and they were very accomidating. Walked us up to the main sampling room and showed us their available wines to purchase. We sampled a few different offerings and ordered 4 bottles. They shipped out within a few days and sent confirmation when it's sent. It arrived over night FEDEX. What an incredible experience. If you are in the Napa valley region don't miss this staple. I have always heard of Opus One but never tried it due to its prices in the restaurants where I see it offered. So I was very exited to finally try it. When I booked the tour I didn't expect it to just be me and the guide so that was a lovely surprise. I was greeted at the entrance with a glass of champagne while I waited for my tour guide. He quickly arrived and we started. He was very knowledgeable about the entire process and the history of the brand. After the tour we sat down in the beautiful tasting room and I had the chance to try three different vintages. Accompanying the drinks were three lovely bites designed by a Michelin star chef. Looking at some of the negative reviews, I have to ask - do you actually like higher end wines? What did you expect from Opus One? This was our first of 9 wineries we tasted during our trip to Napa Valley and it set the bar high. Our host Brendan was a gentleman and super knowledgable. we geeked out over the grapes, the process of making the wine and the barrel room and he was 100% on board with us. We really enjoyed our conversation with him and the way he presented the selections of wines during our tasting. When we (eventually!) got up to the tasting room, we tried 3 expressions with a 4th being brought by as an added bonus. We had ample time alone to try the wines and then Brendan came back over and we nerded out some more on the wines. It was an exceptional visit. Each of the wines was unique it its own right but still had the Opus One stamp on it. We tried the 2021 Overture, the 2021 Opus One, the 2019 Opus One and a real treat, the 2015 Opus One. All were magnificent in their own rights and each had unique characteristics you could really taste when you took the time to smell, taste and experience them. The property is absolutely stunning and the experience overall was incredible. As I mentioned, it set the bar **very** high for every other winery we visited. We agreed that we would try new wineries next time we came without any repeats. Except for Opus One - we'll be back! read more

Winery seven was a location that I had wanted to cross off the bucket list with Opus One Winery ever since I learned about the basics of wine varietals in 2002 at Crown Wine & Spirits in Coral Gables, Florida. Having learned about what Opus One was and how highly esteemed these Bordeaux-inspired reds are within California and the wine world, I always wanted to properly experience these red blends. The experience didn't disappoint as we loved enjoying the tasting lounge, the production areas, the aging room, and more, tasting delicious Bordeaux blend wines that brought us to a place of enlightenment. The grounds itself was epic and grand, a long driveway led you up to the opulent main buildings and entrance that has a classic yet dystopian feel. It feels like a bit of walk before you reach the massive front double doors to enter inside. From there, they led us to this smaller patio area where we enjoyed pours of their Overture red, 2017 Opus One, and 2019 Opus One vintages. Their wines were so exquisite and refined, certainly expensive, but you can taste the craftsmanship and care in addition to the quality of the grapes used to create them. After our tasting, we were taken on a tour of the production and barrel storage areas of the facility downstairs, which was quite grand, epic, and generated a sense of omnipotence. If you ever have the opportunity to tour Napa with its wineries, and appreciate something on the scale of Opus One, I would recommend scheduling a tasting and tour. read more

From the moment I entered and checked in at the front desk, I felt so welcomed and knew that I would be well taken care of. Each of the staff are so personable to make your full experience as pleasant as possible. We opted for the Courtyard Experience, and each wine tasted superb. Our host explained each tasting with a great amount of detail and it was so fun to learn about the history of the winery. We ended up leaving with two bottles. We booked the courtyard experience. It was raining so we sat inside in a hall full of other people. There are 2-3 staff that go around and explain the wine and give you a tour downstairs. We weren't being approached for a while. I had to ask for breadsticks and we stared at the wine until Betu (Sorry if I mispronounced!) approached us and made us feel welcomed. Our wines were already set wine set. Pros: Stunning place, intentional wine, friendly staff. Cons: Not as an interactive wine tasting as others. The set up of the 'wine tasting' feels less than premium with the price tag you pay for the tasting. If you want a more fun interactive tasting I would skip this one. The only reason I'm giving a 4 star instead of 3 is because of Jorge our Sommelier. The grounds and vineyard along with the building look like a prison and extremely unwelcoming. Although the design is sleek and modern it wasn't pleasant besides the wine barrel aging room. On the other hand, Jorge was 100/10, a truly special human being with a very thoughtful and romantic heart. I learned many things from Jorge about life in general. Making my experience at Opus One a truly special and life changing experience. The wine and pairings were also very nice but a bit overpriced at $200 per person. WOW is the word to describe our first (and certainly not our last!) visit to Opus One. We were greeted by Jorge, who was an outstanding host who surpassed our expectations. He taught us how to enjoy wine, and also gave us great recommendations for spirits and restaurants. Very down to earth and would put anyone at ease. He even went so far as to offer suggested wine pairings for our dinner that night. And he took photos of us which was so nice! Wonderful memories here. Worth every penny. Ambience is amazing and very classy. Also has that 'wow' factor. It's not a stuffy place at all - wear jeans or something dressy if you want. The wine itself is exceptional, and you can tell right away that it's different. You'll still enjoy other wines after tasting it, but you certainly will be a bit of a wine snob after you've had it. I had the tasting here and had a wonderful experience! The grounds are beautiful and this is some of the best wine I've ever had! This winery is dedicated to making a single bottle of wine each year and then creates a second wine the overture which is a blend of the best grapes that they did not use to create that year's wine. The tasting includes a tasting of this year's wine and a previous year in addition to the overture so three wines total served with a small snack plate. I had my tasting seated outdoor in the fall. The wine was excellent and I had the heater and was given a blanket to keep me warm. The sommelier led the tasting and was so friendly and knowledgeable. It is not a standard part of the tour however he went above and beyond and showed us both the production and the barrel room which was fun to see! The grounds here are stunning as well. You can take the wine to the upstairs which has beautiful views and comfortable seating. I would recommend this wine tasting to people that are more serious about wine. It is more expensive then other tastings and the quantity of wine is less. So if you're looking to get the most wine as possible for the cost this tasting may not be for you. However if your looking to appreciate some of the finest wine I would highly recommend having a tasting here. They do require reservations which I would recommend making a couple weeks in advance. read more

Reviewing for the Opus One Partners' Room Experience. Opus One is the poster child for what a winery should be like, not just in America, but the world. The estate is beautiful, architecture is striking, decor is top class, and everything feels elegant. Green rolling grass mound around the estate, and the vineyard is very well-maintained. For the tasting experience itself, you are guided by a Sommelier, who stays with your group the entire time (personal tour!). They are very knowledgeable, usually have tons of experience in the wine industry, and can answer questions you have about Opus One, Napa Valley, and just wine in general. The Partner's Room Experience is particularly special because you are guided into a large lounge that is separate from the courtyard. It's a place that is flooded with modern and antique art (Napolean the Third's mirror is there), a beautiful view of the vineyard, and amazing drinks. For this experience, you usually start with a Champagne -- it's around mid-tier, like $50-70 a bottle range, so think Pol Roger and maybe Billecart-Salmon if you're lucky. Then, you move onto the 3 library vintages of Opus One. If I had to choose my favorite vintages so far -- I really liked 2015, 2016 and 2018. Usually on a single visit, you get an older vintage (10+ years ago), and two recent-ish vintages. Also, after COVID, you now get food served from a kitchen as well -- apparently they are coming up with a Michelin Restaurant plan in the future. Finally, after your tasting, you get to visit the barrels, the underground caves, the fermentation tanks, and some more rooms and history about the estate. Overall an amazing experience, and would highly recommend anyone trying to explore what the higher echelons of Napa are like! read more
