The experience was wonderful. My family and I have been going to Robert Mondavi for a couple years and it was so exciting to revisit after they remodeled. The location looks immaculate and the wine tasting room's new look is modern and sleek. Doug, our sommelier was an amazing attendant, great conversationalist and quite informative. The only downside is that my group was hoping on ordering some charcuterie or maybe some appetizers to have with the wine. We were given some balls of fried risotto, which were delicious but the wine would've paired better with some thinly sliced meats or some fruits or nuts. Finally back at Mondavi after their renovation! They did a beautiful job! Some of my pictures are from when I went back in 2017. Post renovation views and architecture are gorgeous, the color palette is natural and relaxing. The tasting room is beautiful. Fiance and I did their pioneer tasting and Red was our sommelier, who was very sweet. We thought the wine selection from the tasting was okay. I'm no wine connoisseur, but I can definitely comment on the elegance dining with view of a vineyard and bright natural sunlight lighting up the room. As I was looking left and right between the venue, the ambience alone is worth a visit to Robert Mondavi. The food was also stellar. Upon entry, we received hors d'oeuvres of the A5 Wagyu pockets stuffed with cheese that was SO YUMMY. I also shamelessly downed two sparkling Robert Mondavi wines which made me embarassingly tipsy. It was too good! The bread is definitely the highlight, with the starter foccacia roll that is so buttery, crispy, and soft. The taglio pizza had one with a tomato base, and the other with a pesto base with stracciatella. The bread had this pillowy dough with a subtle crunch, and the sauces tasted freshly made. The lumache all amatriciana was an elbow pasta filled with pomodoro sauce and pecorino romano. This was pretty good with their broccolini. Food I could forego next time is the chicken as it was a little dry. The dessert was a strawberry gelato, which was delish!! It came with a small streak of mascarpone and drizzles of citrus olive oil that balanced with the tart and sweetness of the strawberry. Service was also very attentive and friendly! My buddy's wife bailed last minute, so he asked if I wanted to join him on his Mondavi tasting. I was happy to accept. Mondavi just finished a massive update and reno project so I was excited to see what was done. I hadn't visited in years. In a word: georgeous. Despite the overcast day, the new tasting room was modern yet warm due to the color pallete. The expansive windows give you a beatiful view of the To Kalon vineyard. My video gives you an idea of the view, but on a sunny day it would be even better. The service is top notch as well. Our hostess shared the wonderful history of the winery and their move toward sustainability. For example, the ceiling in the new tasting room was made of previously used oak barrels. Also the new flower and fauna outside was made up of native drought restraint California species. In regards to tasting the wine was excellent. I was impressed by the reserve fume blanc and their current red blend. The two cabs presented were nice but were young as they needed more time to tame. The potential was there. My buddy ended up buying their 2018 vintage which showed that Mondavi wine can age really well. Also one note, Mondavi does have a culinary room and offers a food pairing. Ok, here it is, the big one when it comes to wine tasting at wineries in Napa Valley. To be clear, I haven't been to more than a handful of wineries in the area, but it is hard to imagine a more impressive place to sip wine. The new buildings look like a modern museum of some kind, with floor to ceiling windows overlooking gardens, water features, walking paths, and the vineyards themselves. The place is grand when you drive up. We had a scheduled wine tasting at 1145 am. We were handed a glass of white wine at check in. Promptly our wine guide introduced himself to us and escorted us to a waiting table in the tasting room. The tasting room is beautiful: light and airy with banquettes and tables for seating, and those windows. On our tasting menu were 3 wines, all Cabernet's of different vintages. While we were tasting, our guide gave us a charming telling of the impressive history of Robert Mondavi and the wineries of Napa valley. Very charming. And over the course of the tasting he brought out two additional wines for us to try. Afterward we walked the grounds. Very impressive. A very enjoyable experience. read more

It's been nearly 20 years since we last visited the iconic Robert Mondavi Winery, but it reopened recently after having been closed for renovations for almost three years. When I read in the Chronicle that they now feature a food and wine tasting at noon, dubbed the Mondavi Table, we figured it might be good to return... and, boy, are we glad we did! The new facility is draw-droppingly beautiful and modern, with only the 70s-era arch and attached storage facility remaining. The new Robert Mondavi tasting room looks absolutely gorgeous built on sustainability, drought, resistant foliage, removing the concert lawn and bringing it back to nature gives it more serene sophisticated ambience. Now the tasting room is absolutely gorgeous. It's big expensive multiple options from indoor to outdoor. It's a great use of space. There used to be a tasting room option in the barrel room which is now I believe only for special events. The service was great from checking in with the host to getting seated, going through the rotations of the wines and having them explained to us with the history of the Mondavi wines, overall a great presentation. They have excellent white wines, but the real Takeaway is the To Kalone Vineyard wines. The 2023 were showing well but they're still young Titanic but good structure overall I particularly liked the 2018 reserve brands which was amazing wines very sophisticated structure well balanced, and expensive. I will definitely bring the wife back here instead of Billy to do the Food&Wine pairing. :) Thanks Billy for hanging out. It is our unofficial Yelp elite event (UYE). They currently do not have breadsticks but at some point, they may offer small bites Tapara along with your food. They were gracious enough to prepare something for us for today, but that wasn't part of the tasting so thank you for that Mondavi team. What a winery! We had 5 tastings plus a delicious lunch that consisted of a citrus salad, rigatoni and ended with hazelnut gelato over crumbled chocolate. One of our group said the bread was the best she ever had. The service was exceptional. The atmosphere was very calming. The wines were very good. What a beautiful property-just as I remembered it from my last visit decades ago. Why only 2 stars? I felt like a criminal walking in. Why? We were greeted by a woman shouting at us asking about our reservations (which we didn't have). In a word, the Robert Mondavi Winery is pretentious. We arrived mid-afternoon on a Tuesday to find a sparsely populated parking lot and only two couples visible on the property at the entrance. Having been seeing the sights, we were dressed casually; not sloppy or too casual, but jeans, sneakers and nice shirts. We were immediately approached by an employee whose body language and tone seemed to imply we seems out of place. We were promptly told no tastings were available, but she would check to see if a club member tasting (we're not members) "might" be possible. She was gone for a while and we simply left. I've enjoyed the wines of this company, but the way we were treated here has turned me off the brand entirely. The property is very pretty. read more

We came on a Saturday morning after booking the Estates Collection tasting for $65pp online. We were quickly seated with the option of sitting outside with a view of the vineyard or inside in the tasting room. It seemed like it was only half full when we arrived which was nice as it wasn't too crowded and we cold really enjoy the tasting with our server. The collection includes 4 set wines and we ended up getting 3 additional wines, including a sparkling rose, 100% cab, and a sweet white to end. It was a fantastic experience as our server was super nice and informative explaining us the steps to taste wine as we aren't big wine drinkers. She also asked us in the beginning what kind of wine we like to better tailor the tasting for us. By the end, I was definitely full of wine and ready for a walk as we didn't get any cheese or charcuterie to nibble on. The grounds are nice with the vineyards close by but there's really isn't much to see outside of the main tasting area. When we went, there also weren't any tours as they're planning to undergo renovations. Note: we heard that for the next 2 years, the tasting room will move to downtown Napa while they renovate this main location. Will definitely be a nice spot in downtown when that opens! read more

For years my family has loved getting Robert Mondavi wines from Costco whenever they become available, so when we had some time we decided to make our way to the Napa area and visit the winery. It was an awesome experience! We booked a reservation ahead of time for The Estates Collection which was $65 per person. For those who don't drink, there is a $25 charge and you get a choice of popcorn or nuts plus a non-alcoholic sparkling drink. We had a group of 6 (4 tasting) and received 4 wines each for the tasting. It was a bit cloudy when we arrived, but the sky started clearing up as we began our tasting experience. My group was seated indoors which was fine, though outside would've been so beautiful. All staff wore masks indoors and we got some awesome pictures outside after the tasting. Our server was Red, and she was so hospitable and knowledgeable about the different wines we were trying. She answered all our questions about the wines in great detail. All of the wines we tasted in the Estates Collection are sold exclusively at the winery. Our tasting was complimented perfectly by a salami charcuterie board. We started out with a chardonnay which wasn't too strong, but soon moved on to try red wines. The red wines were quite strong but had very fruity flavors which I enjoyed. My group briefly mentioned that we really like sweet wines and at the end, Red even offered us complimentary glasses of moscato. In the end, we received a form in which we could order wines that we tasted, plus more options. Besides the moscato, the chardonnay was definitely our favorite so we took a bottle home at a very reasonable price. Overall, this was my first experience wine tasting and I had a lot of fun while learning lots about different types of wine. My niece's boyfriend had reservations for wine tasting on Saturday for a party of 6 so we came to celebrate my niece's birthday and I threw in an early birthday for my brother, her Dad, since they share a birthday month. Luckily there were reservations since they had no openings left. The grounds were clean and immaculate, we checked in and were lead to a tasting room with a table set for our party. Trish was great introducing the wines to us. After the first drink, a few of us stuck with the whites, some went with reds, and later changed to dessert wines. We ordered some charcuterie and enjoyed wine and company. Some got tipsy and giggly, a few Dad jokes came out, luckily Trish tolerated all of that. I bought a case worth of wine...not alcohol induced...maybe a little...those sips add up. I went with the oaked Chardonnay, moscato d'oro and Sauvito Sauvignon Blank. The wine was what you would expect from a producer like Robert Mondavi. The wines on the menu were not the ones you can buy at the supermarket or Costco, so it was a treat to try. Lost count how many times we've been here, but every time is a great experience. Anytime we go to Napa, RM is a must stop. This time around my wife and I brought our good friends as guests for the member's tasting. It was their first time to this winery and they will tell you it's now their favorite. To our surprise, they updated the member's patio and even had a printed menu with my name on it. I'm all about the little touches of class so this went above and beyond for me. They have a nice ambiance to go along with amazing tasting wines, and their charcuterie / cheese plates pair well. Yes, it's no secret you can find other wineries that are more picture friendly with nicer ambiance (not to say RM isn't), but I challenge you to find many that have better wine or better service. I recommend you always book an advance, but that goes for all Napa wineries these days. If you sit in the members patio area, Doug is awesome! He's served us a few times over the years and is very knowledgeable about wines along with how to drink them and what to pair them with. We always have a great time conversing, laughing and learning from Doug. It's pretty tough to leave without bottles, so make sure you account for such in your budget before coming. This is one of the few I've come across you can be a member for as little as 3 bottles a quarter (even allow you to skip a quarter if you want). If you ask me, that's a steal considering you get free tastings + 3 guests anytime you want and a decent discount on their wines. Having visited Opus One, the brainchild of Robert Mondavi and Baron Phillipe de Rothschild, how could we not visit Robert Mondavi winery. Unfortunately, Robert Mondavi winery was an okay experience. To me, the wines tasted okay, and I promise it's not because we just came from Opus One. The staff was friendly, but the tasting did not feel as intimate as other tasting experiences we've had in Napa Valley. The estate was immense and gorgeous. Lots of space to accommodate large parties, and perfect for kicking back and sharing a few bottles if you're not in a rush to go anywhere. read more

It was difficult finding reservations in Napa during Valentines Day weekend. When I saw there were openings at Robert Mondavi, I instantly booked it. I'm not a huge wine drinker, but do enjoy the occasionally sip. I was relieved to just have reservations for the weekend. Robert Mondavi is located right off the highway. Huge scenic views, right in front of the mountains. Great for photos! We checked in and were seated at our own booth, with an umbrella. It was a sunny day so the umbrella was great. We signed up for a wine tasting, 5 different wines. Our wine expert, was fantastic! I forgot his name but he was a total pleasure to speak to. (Apologies.) Instead of telling us what was in the wine, he made it interactional and asked us what we tasted. We were challenged. That really had us thinking about everything. It made things that must more fun and we weren't just sitting there listening. At the end, he explained what we were tasting, and where certain things came from. It was definitely a great experience, one that stood out to me personally. The first 2 wines we tasted our of the 5, we instantly loved it. We knew right away we wanted to buy a few bottles to go, and that's exactly what we did. It was a chard and a pinot. Both were delicious to our standards. Great experience, wonderful view, fun time! Mondavi was the first winery on our list. THE DRINKS I ordered the staff favorites. I'm usually a red person, but I was super curious about the Unoaked Chardonnay -- which turned out to be my favorite wine! It was crisp, light, and refreshing. It didn't have a strong buttery popcorn taste, which usually puts me off of chardonnays. The reds were good, too. None of them stood out to me though. THE VIBE It's sad that one rude employee can really ruin an entire experience. The first employee who did NOT greet us, set the tone for our experience. She was cold and not welcoming. I've worked in hospitality before, and you do not treat guests this way. We thought we may have gotten the nasty looks and ice cold exterior because we didn't have a reservation and it was Saturday. But no, reservations are not needed. The sommelier who served us was amazing! I don't remember his name but he was very knowledgeable and friendly. The space is gorgeous and very picturesque. I could see someone coming here for engagement photos. It's truly lovely. THE VERDICT While there are a range of wines that I enjoyed, the one rude employee left a bad taste in my mouth.
